I have really been enjoying your biographies of the Bioshock characters. I was really looking forward to this one! I do have a couple of critiques though. First, I think it would have been a lot better if you began with summarizing Something in the Sea and thus gave a framework for Cindy's kidnapping. By starting with her kidnapping with zero context, it doesn't make much sense. And more information about his search in general, pulled from the Something in the Sea archives would have really been a benefit, since it was such a huge piece of his life. Like, how did he even start searching, why did that lead to Cindy being kidnapped? How did he found stories about the missing artists and scientists, and begin piecing things together? How did he find Rapture's coordinates? You said something like "after the attack on his ship, he entered Rapture through the lighthouse". What attack??? What ship? And how did he find the lighthouse? This is all important character development. You went so thoroughly into Ryan's backstory, it was really a shame that you didn't go into Melzer's, whenthere is an archive of SitS. I liked having the audio diaries interspersed throughout the video. However, it was super redundant for you to be telling the story, and then play an audio diary, only for us to find that you had just told us the contents of the diary, often with direct quotes. Just tell the story *up to* where the diary starts, and the just play the diary. Don't tell us what is in the diary, and then immediately play the diary. Meltzer and Cindy just break my heart. The first time I played, when his name appeared on the corpse, I was shocked. Absolutely broke my heart. It is always sad to me to kill him, and rescue Cindy to live her life without hee father. Hopefully she finds her way back to her mother when you bring all of the rescued Little Sisters to the surface (i always play as a rescuer). It is so very poignant, though, that he chose to become a protector (which must involve *agonizing* pain as they are grafted into the suits) just so he can be with Cindy, only to be killed and lose her forever. Right in the feels.
What hit me the hardest was after the moment after you kill Mike. As you walk up to her, she brightens up and looks at you. Just like any other little sister. "Daddy! You always save me from the monsters!" I was speechless.
When it was revealed that he was made into an alpha series I stood up and yelled in anger "no no everyone freaking dies not mark" as I wanted him to survive and escape with him
YES, that was one of those fantastic stories of Bioshock. Very tragic deep story, especially as i am a father myself! The Mark Meltzer story coupled with the Charles Milton Porter story was the best in Bioshock 2 imo
My favorite part of that game was honestly the Diaries... I love it when games use audio diaries to tell back stories and important details in more immersive way like with Mark Meltzer's story.
If you think about it, Lamb probably knew that someone would try to find Rapture in search of the girls who were kidnapped from the surface and might have even thought of a way to use this to gain more followers in the cult of personality that she had instilled in the people of Rapture. I love replaying Bioshock 2, and whenever I come across Mark and Cindy, I have felt conflicted about wether I should kill him or not, even though I inevitably choose to kill him and then save Cindy. All of the side stories and how they are interwoven with the main plot are part of what makes the Bioshock games interesting.
Just recently played BioShock 2 remastered on my PS4. The first time I saw his name after defeating him, I was downright shocked and heartbroken to find out that it was him. Knowing that becoming a Big Daddy to be with his daughter was his fate is just awful.
Been waiting for this video! Also that's a fantastic thumbnail Erik! 🖒 but yeah this totally should have been a DLC for BioShock 2 or better yet an entire length game!
there was a web page connected to this before the game released mark was the best part of the game after weeks of looking for his daughter with him the game launched and he was in it. it was epic..
Someone need to make a fangame about that fricking cool story !!! And At the end we can see a cool animation whit delta killin' Mark and adopt Cindy !!! Frick !
Wow, man, I missed the last bit of this side story when I played BioShock 2. I didn't know I interacted with these two! I know I saved Cindy, as I always spared the little sisters, but I'm saddened to know I killed her father in the process 😢
The side story of Meltzer was very riveting, and when I found the big daddy and little sister pair, I thought they were just another regular set. But when I found the last audio diary I instantly regretted my killing of Mark.
See my thing here about big daddies is that how is it that easy to transform someone like aren't they heavily modified with like metal and cybernetics this game makes it seem like it takes an hour at most maybe 20 mins
I'm pretty sure a lot of the higher ranked splices in Lambs cult still have Suchongs work on file to keep in demand for both the big daddies and little sisters
Honestly I always save Mark's daughter because in his last audio diary he wanted to find the cure for Cindy and didn't want her to be like one of the little sisters. So whenever I put mark down I just pick Cindy up and just take her to the vents without needing Adam, it's what Mark would've wanted atleast.
In my case, I actually thought "I" was Mark Meltzer at some point. I think hunting for recordings to try and piece the story together started to stretch it a little thin, as the main character arcs started to twist and turn. It disconnected me from meaningful interactions with the in-game characters a little bit. I wish I would have known it was Mark, before I engaged him, e.g. through Sinclair... Either way, I enjoyed the delusion while it lasted.
I’m sorry but if they made a huge team to build past day rapture at it’s finest hour and there’s at least a couple storylines, bioshock can be such a HUGE platform I wish they did something like that
I was saving all of the little sisters, so when I found Cindy I didn't know she was Cindy, nor did I know that the Rumbler was Mark, so I froze Mark and killed him. (It was a very quick death fyi). When he died I adopted the little sister (as I always do) and took her to a vent and rescued her (also as I always do, I almost never do the whole "make innocent little child find dead bodys and drink their blood just so you can get more power" thing). Only after I went back to the Rumbler's body and his name popped up, I was like, "WTH did I just do". (I went back to search the body.) At the same time that I feel sad for killing him and thus, making her not have a father, I was glad because she would be saved and not be stuck living as a hypnotized, drinking blood, and constantly having creepy addicts try to steal and kill her.
I think Mr. Meltzer would have approved her daughter being rescued from sad, pitiful existence even if it cost his own life. Still weird laziness from makers to not make Little Sisters have any differences.
@@Scooty_ It was an amazing ARG that was a point-and-click adventure-style game that was this interactive version of Mark Meltzer's desk where you would click on letters, check his answering machine, etc. and see his research into Rapture. As the game progressed you could access more and more of his office. There was a Sander Cohen-esque person who escaped from Rapture who was a genius with codes and mechanisms. He was in an insane asylum but wrote letters to Mark and sent puzzle boxes with clues which the BioShock fan community worked together to figure out how to solve. It was tons of fun.
The first game came out when I was 5 im 15 now and playing all the bioshock 1 and 2 remastered and infinite doing everything I can in the games I've finished all the DLCs but I feel as if there's still mystery in the games
When I first heard about Mark when I checked out the loot on the entranced I tried doing research on my own and found this video I’m playing the remastered version of course but still a fun game to play cause if the lore
I wish his story was a DLC. I remember my first time playing the game years ago. I was horrified when it was revealed that I ended up killing him. It felt like a huge gut punch. At least I was able to rescue his daughter.
This man actually managed to escape Rapture but crash landed on the Planet Apokalips where he proceeded to rule and conquer other civilisations with an iron fist!
I don't even know what the animation for saving a little sister looks like I've never done it, And I've beaten the games multiple times. But I might actually try it now that I saw this video. I might actually see little girls instead of Adam bags
I thought he was a character that could be saved if you looked through every door and crevice. Broke my heart when i found out i had just killed him, at least his daughter was saved from being a little sister(depending on how you played)
Its sad perhaphs if delta arrived sooner he could have saved martin ftom the little sister but then again he is a big daddy so martin would have seen him as a enemy
This is all very interesting, but I am only one minute in, and I already gotta ask, where do you get all this from? I have played through the entire game multiple times and (to my knowledge) gotten all the audio diaries, but never was it explained to me in detail how and when Cindy was kidnapped. I do realize there is a lot of info in the bioshock fandom page too that isn't present in the game, but again I gotta ignorantly ask, where do people get all that from? Interviews? Data mining?
If this story was a DLC I wish that topside (delta) is the final Boss And is an unbeateble Boss. And that on the end you see that topside saved cindy And then " Im Glad that i died for her "
I hate killing mark meltzer but I feel like it's a merciful end for the man. You save his daughter from a horrible fate and you end mark meltzers pain from being a big daddy

"Daddy! You always save me from the monsters!"
I was speechless.
I promised it a while ago. I'm just sorry this video took so long. :/
@@TheBioshockHub better late than never!
i loved this mini story- the franchise should explore more of the relationship between the surface and rapture more
*amazing story i didn't know Bioshock 2 have that powerful story*
The worst nightmare of Mark end up finding out where his daughter is and finding out more insane stuff happening in Rapture
I loved that you said “(would you kindly) like the video” that deserves a like
Thank you friend!
When i remember Mark, always comes to my mind the song "Daddy won't You please come home" of the game
I love this story. Really heart breaking but so beautiful too.
If they ever make a movie on bioshock and rapture, mark would make the best protagonist imo
Replaying the game it broke me when I just killed him he put up a good fight
Damn, I feel so sorry for him, the audio diary in Dionysus Park is the saddest
The whole story is really messed up :/
And my dumbass wondered why there was a big daddy named mark
I know I'm late but this channel is friking amazing
Thank you! I'm happy you enjoy the content!
i love how in one of the audio diaries you hear a idot atticking a little sister and big daddy
If there every is a bioshock 4 then I hope his story is a dlc
There's a new Bioshock in development my friend :)

Isn't cidy the plot device in burial at sea? Blond and cindy?
@@highfivemistertorque4537 Burial at Sea is Sally.
Marks story is a great example of the consequences of love and obsession. Would have loved to see a DLC showing his complete side of the story.
I agree
Mark's story is one of the reasons why I will always kill Lamb. She is just as sick as Ryan was but to self righteous to realize it.
there was a web page connected to this before the game released mark was the best part of the game after weeks of looking for his daughter with him the game launched and he was in it. it was epic..
It's definitely an emotional backstory the more you look into it.
Finally! Mark Meltzer!
Hope you enjoy it!
TheBioshockHub I did
Very good, very good. You do these well dude.
I appreciate that
Wasn't able to follow this guy story thank you so much for making this one!
Not a problem. It's a video I've wanted to make for a long time.
Amazing video and explanation 😇 Rest In Peace those great men and women in Rapture
The side story of Meltzer was very riveting, and when I found the big daddy and little sister pair, I thought they were just another regular set. But when I found the last audio diary I instantly regretted my killing of Mark.
His and Cindy's whole story should have been a secondary DLC to Minerva's Den... There was so much there that they could've done with.
TheBioshockHub definitely
I dont know if he meant what he said at the end of the video as a reference/joke from boishock or not when he says "Would you kindly. "
It's on purpose, just to fit the theme of the channel/content. :)
See my thing here about big daddies is that how is it that easy to transform someone like aren't they heavily modified with like metal and cybernetics this game makes it seem like it takes an hour at most maybe 20 mins
With the amount that were generated, I'd assume they have that entire process near perfected with crazy speed.
And it's not like sofia just turned him into a big daddy by herself, she has a whole cult behind her.
I'm pretty sure a lot of the higher ranked splices in Lambs cult still have Suchongs work on file to keep in demand for both the big daddies and little sisters
I'm playing Bioshock 2 first time on the Nintendo switch and these accu-vox we're my favorite to look for.
I’m sorry but if they made a huge team to build past day rapture at it’s finest hour and there’s at least a couple storylines, bioshock can be such a HUGE platform I wish they did something like that
Honestly this would be a great dlc like Minerva dens. Like he became a big daddy but tenebum or Sinclair stop short of the mental conditioning.
a fantastic video please keep these videos coming because i love bioshock
You got it! Thank you.
Mark seemed like a pretty smart dude and I would’ve like to help him Escape if I couldn’t save Sinclair
(I went back to search the body.)
At the same time that I feel sad for killing him and thus, making her not have a father, I was glad because she would be saved and not be stuck living as a hypnotized, drinking blood, and constantly having creepy addicts try to steal and kill her.
I think Mr. Meltzer would have approved her daughter being rescued from sad, pitiful existence even if it cost his own life. Still weird laziness from makers to not make Little Sisters have any differences.
Look on the bright side: after killing Mark you could save Cindy. This is what he would have wanted, despite it costing his life.
That's what I liked about it. It's kind of bittersweet.
Having a bit of trouble finding there’s something in the sea where is the link?
www.rapturearchives.org/php/sits.php (It's archived)
TheBioshockHub what exactly is something in the sea? I thought it was a article
It was tons of fun.
survivordave awesome
Great video man! Subbed brother!
Thank you Sean. Hope you enjoy the whole catalog of videos on the channel!
Cool video man
Glad you enjoyed it!
I wish his story was a DLC.
I remember my first time playing the game years ago. I was horrified when it was revealed that I ended up killing him. It felt like a huge gut punch. At least I was able to rescue his daughter.
Would've made for a hell of a DLC
Same here man I always save the little sisters because that's what heroes Do
This man actually managed to escape Rapture but crash landed on the Planet Apokalips where he proceeded to rule and conquer other civilisations with an iron fist!
Wish we were able to team up with him for a bit like we do with sinckair would have been nice like you finding your daughter
I wish his story played out as a DLC along with Minerva's Den. Bioshock 2 would have been loaded!
There should've been a dlc when you play as him and go through rapture as human him
I don't even know what the animation for saving a little sister looks like I've never done it, And I've beaten the games multiple times. But I might actually try it now that I saw this video. I might actually see little girls instead of Adam bags
i didnt find a final recorder, i got the ending where we spared dr lamb now i see it as a bad ending
The whole Cindy and Mark Meltzer backstory is pretty tragic.
Interviews? Data mining?
imagine if they made a DLC for Bioshock 2 where you play as Mark Meltzer
I'd love it.
If this story was a DLC
I wish that topside (delta) is the final Boss
And is an unbeateble Boss.
And that on the end you see that topside saved cindy
And then
" Im Glad that i died for her "
When you realize Cindy is crying after you kill the Big Daddy without knowing that’s also her real Dad who came all this way to save her.
I finished Bioshock 1 then found this channel. Finished B2 then I'm back to this channel lol
Love the video 🥰
When I killed the Big Daddy ti rescue the Little Sister I fehlt bad, after discovering who he was...
0:00 You too buddy, it’s 128 right now
I'd always imagine them making short animated series of each individual story in rapture. Kinda like love sex robots on Netflix
Jesus i make the same mistake with the title. Ist Love, Death and Robots. I think we have a dirty mind
I hate killing mark meltzer but I feel like it's a merciful end for the man. You save his daughter from a horrible fate and you end mark meltzers pain from being a big daddy
So a Big Sister was sending messages to Mark? I wonder why they would do that and risk many outsiders to the location of Rapture...
