Go ask any rotary guy willing to tell the truth. Those engines are horrible. Not an opinion. It’s a fact. The thing burns oil like crazy and let’s not talk about the seals and it’s failure rate.
You can blab all you want about maintenance. You’re in for a headache when you’re dealing with a rotary motor period

JEFFREY yeahhh you should try owning one first. You’ll burn a quart maybe every 1000 miles depending on how it’s tuned, unless you premix. If oil burning is a concern then I hope you don’t like s2000’s because they do the same thing due to the high revving nature they have. I would say the FD is the least reliable in stock form. The twins are a mess once they start to have vacuum leaks and bad solenoids and that is their main issue.
But I’ve seen FB rx7s with well over 200k on the original engine. However it seems your statement is mostly just what you’ve read on the internet. Much like someone ls swapping it because they are more reliable at 700hp or some shit. Anyone who needs 700hp in a 2600lb car probably won’t use it more than to try and measure dicks with the random kid on the highway in an frs.
