Never thought to use parchment paper on pans. That was awesome! I hate cleaning dishes, so I really appreciate this one. I've always used baking soda on carpets, but never thought of using the cheese top on the mason jar, which would make it spread out better...so thanks! Lots of great ideas here.
I am so pleased that you shared all this wonderful information with us. I’m a single Mom and any way to save money and time cleaning is greatly appreciated!!!!
my favorites are the sock for the blinds...I have used that one...I also love the idea of kids cleaning with the slime. It looks good in the video...I'm looking forward to trying it on my stove
Hi James, My fave is the slime because a few yrs ago, I bought a product called " cyber clean" labeled as something to clean electronic devices. It was expensive. Now I can make slime to use instead.
I love the shaving cream one, especially for the colder months. I'm going to use it on the inside of the car windows - I hate having to wait 15 minutes before the defroster works. This way I can get in and get to work! I also like boiling water to clean ick dishes and the water in the microwave to clean it (just put some in, smile). Thanks excellent video!

Hi James, Thanks for the great hacks. I just tried out the microwave cleaning hack - it needed 10 minutes, then everything came right off! I'm going to make some of that slime today. Did you try it to clean the blinds? I hate cleaning blinds, so I hardly do it except to take them off and do them in the yard. Your method forthat will be tested here too, though one strip at a time looks tedious. :)
Some good stuff here, James. As for some of these tips being old, there are new young people just now learning how to clean, so it's new to some people. Thanks James!
I'm going to go treat my bathroom mirror now. Loved the cleaning solution (and wipes)... Looks like I'll be saving some money and it'll be nice to know the aroma isn't chemical I'm smelling. Thanks!
I used to do the bowl in the microwave method but now I add essential oil to a wet papertowel in microwave and run it for two mins then wipe down. The reasons- 1. No dirty bowl afterwards 2. easy to wipe just with the papertowel. 3- My husband and kids are popcorn lovers so the essential oil removes any leftover odours & 4- if there is anything leftover and hard on the glass like cheese the papertowel soaks and pretty much boils it off :)
Great idea! Getting it clean is not the problem, it's the smell that lingers from hubby's frozen burritos. Every time I reheat my coffee I smell burrito. Now I can finally get rid of that smell. Thanks!
60 years ago I worked at a movie theater. the owner showed us how to clean the display windows with old newspaper. it worked better than rags or paper towels. thanks for the reminder.
I really appreciated this video. I learned some things and since I am the chief cook and bottle washer in our family, I can always use tips that make my job easier. I use vinegar for lots of things, also if the bowl of water in the microwave add vinegar to it. also vinegar works to clean the toilet bowl, mirrors and windows and coffee maker. very useful and if your worried about the smell it disapates soon after use. so combining some of my hacks with your hacks, I should be about to do things faster than usual
Great hacks and great video!! I have been making my own foaming dish and hand washing soap and it goes a long way! I use it in my bathrooms too. Thanks so much!!😃
James, Outstanding!! I am delighted to use them all in the RV (recreational vehicle) saves time, money and stress. Thank you you've taught an old dog new tricks. I am delighted to have found your channel.
I tell you something that may help you.... at the bottom of the bin I always put few pages of newspaper or old magazines just in case there something leaking from the bin liner into the bucket, so I'll just change the papers instead of having to clean the bin...
James, I loved your video and I even learned something new. BUT there is an even more important 'life hack' I grew up knowing that seems to have been lost along the way. That is you don't 'bribe' your children to help with the chores. Everyone eats and dirties dishes. Everyone uses the bathroom. Everyone wears clothes. Chores are every family member's responsibility and they are given/assigned according to each person's abilities. It's easy to tell which young adults grew up doing chores because they're usually far more mature than their peers.
LJ Bissonnette Some of us grew up with an impatient parent who felt it was quicker to do everything herself. I agree that it's better to share chores, and can be friendlier.
Rule 1: Only ever eat microwave meals. No washing up. You save water and electricity., and no wasted food. Rule 2: Keep your carpets clean by rolling them up and storing them in the garage. They stay like new for years. Rule 3. Never ride a bicycle underwater.
@ James DIY, So many haters saying cruel things behind their monitors. I think I speak for most when I say, I'm grateful that you took the time to share these tips. I'm definitely going to use the shaving cream on the bathroom mirror and I buy those dishwasher pods and Clorox wipes like crazy... but not anymore; so thank you for saving me money and for sharing great ideas. Apparently some people on here have never heard of the old saying, " If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all,) or are just complete jerks and don't care, which in my opinion speaks volumes of their character and it's in no way positive.
Thankyou James. Great ideas. I liked the deashwasher idea. The shavingcream is a very good idea too. There are loads of stuff to do with viniger too. The second time I saw this, I liked it more. ( I'm always in a hurry. Did you.know that tobacco is great for killing bugs in your garden? I don't smoke so I use this to kill bugs. Ideas from Mallorca, Spain. 🖐
I have used the Shaving Cream Hack before and it works Great!! I am going to try the Microwave hack 1st because ours is Always so dirty. Thanks for the Tips!!
Whether the glass is hot or cold, water with a temperature that's too different from the glass applied to a specific area of the glass will break it, because the conduction of heat in glass is not quick enough to adjust to the increased molecule activity (if you applied hot water) or decreased (if cold water). As long as the hot/cold water is spread over a big enough area of the glass, it won't break it.
Ya, I'm not going to carry a huge potfull of boiling water around, it'd be easier to fill the sink w/ hot soapy water b4 dinner, rinse plates etc. right after dinner then put items in the water. Or clean as you go for the bigger stuff.
I bought a cereal container from Dollar Tree with the flip lid and filled it with diatomaceous earth. Working in layers, I added both lemongrass and orange essential oil, shaking as I made each layer. When it's time to vacuum, I sprinkle that on the carpets and vacuum. The diatomaceous earth is excellent at killing bugs, deodorizing, etc. Because we have many uses for diatomaceous earth, I have large bags of it around the house. Boom! Awesome hacks. TFS!!
Iheart2cook How long do you leave it on the carpet, and does it help with pet smells? It sounds like something I'd use during the summer when ants come around. ☺
Not trying to sound sexist here but DAMN FINALLY A MAN THAT CLEANS! And these are actual practical diys that I can make. What really gets me sometimes when watching these hacks or diys is they are often click bait or they use things that I've never heard of or that are so expensive i can't Afford them being a single mom of FOUR KIDS! thanks for what you do. How can I deep clean wall to wall carpeting in multiple rooms by hand that will ACTUALLY get the stains and dirt up, or most of it? Thanks in advance
I was already using some of these - the sock, the garbage bag layering, the boiling water, the blender, and they all work. I had not wet the sock first, I think this will be an improvement for cleaning the blinds. I also look forward to trying the home made dishwashing pods, and the dishsoap extender.
You know what I do when my eggs stick to the pan....? I go into my parents bedroom....to my dads side of the bed. I pull out his Glock 9mm from between the mattresses and put it to my temple. I find if Im really fast I can squeeze off 3 rounds. This works great because your skull cavity should be completely vacant of grey matter by the third shot......and that means no pain.....yaaaaaaa. Of Course motor skills are going to take a hard hit after the first hollow point so you really have to concentrate.
trashpakker I am in my seventies and when I read this I couldn't stop laughing it was bloody hilarious cheers please come up with some more I have Scottish sense of humour

Great tips!!! Adding to the multiple bag in the trash can... I put a few layer of newspaper covering the bottom. This will prevent dirty liquid leaks to get to the bottom making it easier to clean your trash can interior. I add newspaper on top of my kitchen cabinets. They are not visible and makes it easy to clean accumulated dust. I put fabric softener on the bottom of my clothes drawers. My cloths always smell great.
yep, I'm lucky have a double sink so I clog one up with a stopper and fill with hot water and few drops of dishsoap then fill with dirty dishes...later even if the water got cold it still done its purpose by not allowing the food to dry up and actually loosen all of it when I'm ready to wash it...ps make sure to dry with dish towel if using a rack (this makes drying time a snap and avoids water spots too). ✔️
My dad showed me the newspaper trick because he was a mechanic and it's what car dealerships do. Will definitely have to try some of these others, thanks!
thanks James...living in South Africa and just lost my maid...i'm a mother of four children...lots of washing and ironing... and now i need to do the cleaning around the house aswell...your hacks are really helpful....keep on coming! thank you
I think the roll of paper towels would be too wide for a commercial wipes container. You'd have to unroll some of the paper towels to make the roll narrower.
I would use a jar - recycle any glass jar. Vinegar is a mild acid, plus citrus acid - both are going to erode the plastic bowl. Just as I always buy a glass lemon squeezer - never plastic.
Wow I I am really impressed with your work. I've seen several videos like this from other people but I must say these ideas really seem do-able.. and effective. Thank you!
The best blind cleaning hack is to use an upholstery brush on a shop vac to suck up all the dust rather than swiping it off into the air, then wiping down the blinds with a clean duster (I use the off brand swiffer thingies, but probably anything would work) with some anti-static dusting spray. Works a charm!
The shaving cream anti-fog was priceless info. As far as the pile of dirty dishes in the sink, well, you remind me of my husband. After twenty years of asking him to rinse out anything he piles into the sink, he still doesn't "think" to do it. ugh! Now the home-made dishwasher pods will save me TONS of money...Thank you, thank you, thank you. So many awesome tips young man. I loved the video and just too many tips to comment on them all, but again, thank you.!
Forgive me for the criticism of an otherwise very helpful video, but: I'm not familiar with a "self cleaning" function on a blender, but even if yours has one, if your blender has a screw-on gasket and blade assembly, please, for the love of God, take it apart to wash. Blending soap in it without taking it apart leaves you with a blender that's nice and clean inside, but NOT clean in-between the gasket assembly. . *Especially* with milk residue. If that sounds like nonsense to you just take your blade assembly apart after using your blender and have a look at the crap that gets trapped between the cup and the gasket, and between the gasket and the blade assembly. Don't be surprised if the gunk is black, too. Sure it's a pain in the ass to take it apart and wash it, and that's a part of why you don't use your blender very often, but you know what solves that? An immersion blender. Get one with a larger motor and it can handle ice cubes for making drinks like a regular blender, but with a fraction of the cleanup. Takes up way less space in your cabinet, too.
star * You can use generic denture cleaning tablets dissolved in water to clean the ceramic of sinks, tubs, tile. Post your cleaning problem here & someone will suggest something to help.
tessamersus I'm glad it worked for you! Think about it: they're all made out of different types of ceramics: dentures, toilets, sinks, tubs, floor tile...and if you don't like minty fresh, you can just add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the unflavored kind!
Just an awful chore made super easy and sweet smelling! Next mountain to climb: teach the hubby to clean the toilet every week or less, as needed. LOL!Now if I could just get him to put the darn lid down after he's finished with the toilet. I'm too embarrassed to admit that I have stumbled into the dark bathroom and "fallen in" way more than anyone should do in a lifetime. He pretends he doesn't hear my screams. Nobody wants to fall in at 2:15 in the morning, but at least it's clean lol!
Crap. 144 comments later & no one has a better idea of how to clean blinds! My idea of cleaning blinds is to fling them across the road into the ditch...
Walmart and Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond sells blind cleaning tool for under $10. Definitely worth it. Just put "blinds cleaner" into their search engine and voila!
I used to clean my mother's old style blinds (wide blades with the wide straps that she called "Venetian blinds") by taking them down and putting them in the tub with soapy water and vinegar (keeping the header part with the mechanism propped up out of the water). Let them soak about 20 minutes and then use a hand dust broom (part of a dust pan set) to scrub the blind slats and the fabric straps. This was for deep cleaning them at a time when both of my folks smoked.
GraeMatterz, much obliged for the advice. No less than 10 sets of blinds to clean (Yes, some igit used them in e'ry room). There are strings & straps to contend w/... The heifer allowed children to run amok & mucked up same w/ grime & food. Would have preferred they had smoked.... Meanwhile, contemplating a combo of what Miss Tessamersus & yourself advised whilst trying not to lay out curses on the manufacturers of said blinds. Thx!
The hints I liked best: Frying the egg using parchment paper, and setting a bowl of water into the microwave to ease the cleaning of it. Manufacturers ought to sell parchment paper bowls?
D. G. It was just pour boiling water over dishes.. for pans you need to soak try a fabric sooner sheet in the water of the pan.. Just saw my sister in law do this pan was clean in a hour!!! For me I'd soak overnight and still had a mess.. can't wait to try it! She scrubbed pan with it after it soaked and tossed sheet away.. looked so easy!!
Vinegar is a chemical, in fact, literally everything is made of chemicals. So while making your own spray and wipe may be novel, it's not chemical free.
I'm going to refer you to my previous statement, LITERALLY EVERYTHING IS A CHEMICAL. Just google what the chemical formula for vinegar is, oop, here it is! CH3COOH, saved you a search. And yes, yogurt is made of chemicals because as mentioned, literally everything is made up of a chemical formula.
Using the slime to clean air vents is definitely something I will try! Thank you. I also really liked the orange/vinegar cleaner and wipes. Good job! :)
EntyseOnline this makes me crazy because of the waste. They aren't very effective as I always need a rag to wipe up after the wipe. Make the DIY cleaner and use a rag you can reuse. That's saving money.
only if you drink the water after - the concern is that plastic bits come off in the water but there again he's using a microwave safe bowl. This mostly applies to disposable bottles of water that people leave in the sun. As long as he throws the water away down the sink it's fine.
I wish I had seen this video a week ago. I just bought a bottle of spray to prevent fogging. I could have saved myself some money. Now I know what to do when this runs out. Thanks for the video!
i just have to say that the blender hack is acctually not good. my mother in law does this to clean hers and every time I go to use it, I take it apart to really clean it because EVERY time I open it it, there is mold inside. so I really do NOT suggest that one, but the others are spot on.
Ania Hayat - I actually take my blender apart and wash it in the dishwasher. And that gets it clean. My MIL has a blender like the one in this video, and every time I want to use it it has a thin and disgusting film of whatever mystery crap in the inside. She only does the "blending clean" as shown in this video. I prefer the dishwasher.

Pouring boiling water on cold glass will break it. (unless it's tempered glass like pyrex bakeware or glass coffee mugs).
Jen G
That's the other way around. Pouring cold water over a really hot glass dish will shatter it.
Jen G plus it can splash on you
Yeah, steam burns are very serious!
Whether the glass is hot or cold, water with a temperature that's too different from the glass applied to a specific area of the glass will break it, because the conduction of heat in glass is not quick enough to adjust to the increased molecule activity (if you applied hot water) or decreased (if cold water). Um... Diatomaceous earth isn't even soluble, because it's powdered rock. Like pumice. It's mildly abrasive. So it will wear your carpet down faster.

on the home made wipes...why not use a wipe container instead.
I think the roll of paper towels would be too wide for a commercial wipes container. You'd have to unroll some of the paper towels to make the roll narrower.
You have to stuff them in there.. and take the brown paper out..
I would use a jar - recycle any glass jar. Vinegar is a mild acid, plus citrus acid - both are going to erode the plastic bowl. Just as I always buy a glass lemon squeezer - never plastic.
The sock is good and it protects your hand when you clean the blades of the blinds. Thanks for posting. These are all great.
You could reused the canister from Clean-up Wipes that you bought before becoming Clean-Up Hack Guru..
Wow I I am really impressed with your work. I've seen several videos like this from other people but I must say these ideas really seem do-able.. and effective. Thank you!
I love the sock!
I used to use a toothbrush to clean vents lmao
The shaving cream anti-fog was priceless info. As far as the pile of dirty dishes in the sink, well, you remind me of my husband. After twenty years of asking him to rinse out anything he piles into the sink, he still doesn't "think" to do it. ugh! Now the home-made dishwasher pods will save me TONS of money...Thank you, thank you, thank you. So many awesome tips young man. I loved the video and just too many tips to comment on them all, but again, thank you.!
great video, just subscribed. keep them coming! 👍💖
I like to the parchment paper on a skillet. I have used some of the ideas in this video
Forgive me for the criticism of an otherwise very helpful video, but:
I'm not familiar with a "self cleaning" function on a blender, but even if yours has one, if your blender has a screw-on gasket and blade assembly, please, for the love of God, take it apart to wash.
I was glad to come across the anti-fog treatment. It's snowy in the winter where I live and frosty windshields always fog inside.
disappointed...!!pic shows cleaning of a sink n no wr I found it
star * You can use generic denture cleaning tablets dissolved in water to clean the ceramic of sinks, tubs, tile. Post your cleaning problem here & someone will suggest something to help.
I read this yesterday and then used the (hubby's) denture cleaning tablets in my toilet to test out the theory. It works great!!
tessamersus I'm glad it worked for you!
Nobody wants to fall in at 2:15 in the morning, but at least it's clean lol!
star * Ditto, hate the clickbait.
The slime recipe and uses for it is my favorite- thanks Jamie- keep the videos coming-- really helpful!!!!!😜
The slime would also help detail your vehicle. I've used silly putty which is not easy to find sometimes. The slime idea is SO much better!
friends take the nice things of what he has shown
The most amazing thing about this video is that there is a guy doing the cleaning up/chores. lol Thanks for the tips!
so so so clever....thank you!!
Aliya Rahman
Learnt the garbage bag trick from my brother years and years ago. Another great one.
Vinegar is acidic...do not use on marble or granite. It's probably already been said but I wasn't going to read through 1,000 comments.😉
Heck I loved them all, especially the last one. Going out now and going to get the stuff to do my vent on my furnace door.
I'm an old broad too, so welcome to the party! lol
Thx!
M King Why not throw 'em out and put up shades or curtains instead? We have vertical blinds. They were expensive, but much easier to clean. .
The hints I liked best: Frying the egg using parchment paper, and setting a bowl of water into the microwave to ease the cleaning of it. Manufacturers ought to sell parchment paper bowls?
This is awesome
I normally go to the dollar store to get the cheapest product so I love these ideas so easy and less costly to do!!!
Awesome!
Yrrde
Laura Handy.
I clean the microwave with water for only 1 or 2 minutes; wipes away so easy! Not much time needed. Great ideas here in this video; thanks!
Where's that thumbnail sink hack?
I lick the slime, the foam Dawn containeer and the layers of trash can liners. Thanks so much!
Vinegar is a chemical, in fact, literally everything is made of chemicals. So while making your own spray and wipe may be novel, it's not chemical free.
TheBeedrill91 vinegar is not a chemical, unless you also consider yogurt a chemical. Both are the result of organisms digesting sugars.
Who cares?
Thank you for the sock tip!
I like the parchment paper on a skillet. Clutch!
just be careful if using on open flames like with gas stoves (he's using electric stovetop)
Michael Kicklighter hi n hi
Nice bullet maker
Loved the tin foil hack for cleaning burned on food . You are very good
Where is CrazyRussianHacker? I like CrazyRussianHacker.
Love the slime and the use of parchment paper!
Any 10 year watching this randomly like me? To see how parents try so hard to make sure everything is clean? XD
Using the slime to clean air vents is definitely something I will try! Thank you. I also really liked the orange/vinegar cleaner and wipes. Good job! :)
the good quality paper towels are the same cost as the wipes lol
But you get more sheets with the paper towel roll cut in half, and if you buy the towels in bulk, even more savings.
EntyseOnline this makes me crazy because of the waste. They aren't very effective as I always need a rag to wipe up after the wipe. Make the DIY cleaner and use a rag you can reuse. That's saving money.
Oh it's awesome & I love them
Marie Santher
Not true
LOVE the no-fog mirror hack! Always spend minutes de-fogging with the blow dryer so I can shave.
Don't you know that hot water+ plastic = not good .........
only if you drink the water after - the concern is that plastic bits come off in the water but there again he's using a microwave safe bowl.
I do clean it this way. I also dry the blender with a cloth an i never close the lid so moisture can escape.
I clean it that way first and then I also take it apart because yes stuff seeps in between the gasket
It's moldy because you have to air dry every single piece any little water stored when it's put away will cause mold
I think his methods are amazing he's giving us tricks of the trade I like the slime idea
