    If ever you do this sort of thing again, it's well worth identifying where the waste ink system is, including the waste pads, waste ink tubing and the dump point where the ink is dumped into those pads. Useful for anyone who is trying to replace the waste ink pads or fit an external waste ink tank. Just a thought..

      My TS5160 has a little nylon lever popping up to stop the carriage returning home, hence generating a 5100 code. I suspect this is related to the waste ink system. As I'm not prepared to dismantle the whole thing I've cut that little lever off with a scalpel and the printer now works fine. I can see what looks like the waste ink pad inside the rear of the machine and it appears still useable. What a complex system!
