    The facial expression “it’s a square hole. Worked like a square hole; did fine.” 😐
    Priceless.

    Thank you for the final comment!!! I’ve been forging over 40 years and have seen guys in Africa forge on a rock. It’s not and never will be about the size anvil lol. I just went and got one and it’s a great little tool. Beginners don’t get caught up with tool collecting just have fun

    Thanks for showing this. Our HF started carrying this model a year or so ago. I thought it looked good. I have my old Morris for home use and a couple of rr tracks for mobile use. Last year I dug up from my backyard a half foot or so of small gauge rr track. Didn't know it was there until I stepped on something sharp that had grown up from the ground. Another anvil! If I ever need a real anvil for road use this looks like a plan.

    I've had a Doyle anvil for 4 months now. The first thing I did was have that ugly red powder coat sandblasted off. Zero casting flaws under it. I've worked S7 1 1/4" with no problems. The hardness is very near 60 HRC.
    Zero complaints from me.

    Very helpful and definitely useful video explaining this anvil. Thanks so much. Hopefully you will get great use out of it. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friend. Forge On. Fab On. Weld On. Keep forge lit. Keep making. God bless.

      @VooDooTennessee I'll be watching. I got 4 big trailer axles begging to be turned into tools. I'll probably use one, or one and a half to make a whole bunch of mistakes, but the rest should get increasingly more useful. Lol

    Never so much as forged a nail, but I've just subscribed anyway, I love this gentleman's personality, it's cool to see someone who speaks like me, slightly different, but to someone up north it would be identical I suppose, I'm from a small town in NW Georgia, but anyway it's awesome to see a southern man like myself doing something on RUclips, so few people from the south use their actual accent on here.

    being used to a square back anvil can't say i care for the placement of the hardy hole all that much or the size of the pritchett being used to a smaller one but the next trip to harbor freight i'll have to give it a look!!

    Buyer beware….. I bought a Doyle anvil earlier this year and tried to return it due to a casting defect in the horn that had been filled with weld and crudely ground down with a coarse disc. Since the nearest store seems to have only one in stock at a time, I tried to return it to another store. That store was gracious enough to let me open up and examine the one they had…. but I found an odd defect beneath the tail that was poorly hidden with filler and I didn’t swap. I did eventually exchange it at the original store for the only one they had in stock. Unfortunately, it - too - had a filled defect in the horn and a golfball-sized void along the middle of the Pritchel hole. This one also seemed very soft with poor rebound and little - to no - ring. It dented nearly as easily as the cast iron anvil I have. I suspect it was not properly tempered.
    So, 3 out of 3 were not acceptable to me. It is interesting that the half dozen display models I have seen are nearly PERFECT… but, of course, it is corporate policy that displays can’t be sold or purchased. In my opinion, it is quite possible that the displays were from early production when HF was trying to generate interest in them. I also suspect that as demand increased, quality control decreased to meet demand. I eventually returned mine for a refund and ended up buying a Vevor 66# London-style from Amazon. The casting was noticeably better than the Doyle - as were the rebound and ring. I would definitely not recommend the Doyle anvil at this time…..

      I’ve been eyeing both the Doyle and the London pattern. Couple questions for you:
      How much thinner is the shelf on the Vevor?
      Does the vevor’s flat bottom make it easier to dampen the sound than the pig legs on the vevor?

    • @jgj6331
      @jgj6331 21 день назад

      @diego_villena ... They are completely different styles. Just compare the online images - the tail of the Vevor is not as thick, and the work surface is not as large.... but I think it has a slight edge on quality. It all boils down to what you will be using it for... and your willingness to search through several HF anvils to find one that is satisfactory if you decide to go that route. As for the bases, I doubt that it would make a decibel of difference.

    If there is a possibility of plug welds, should we use naval jelly in the store or parking lot? If there are any, that would show them.

    How does this anvil compare to the kanca anvils?

    • @VooDooTennessee
      @VooDooTennessee  3 месяца назад

      I have only used a Kanca once and it seemed softer, I know that is completely anecdotal. Kanca is made in Turkey and cost twice as much, I am guessing similar if not identical quality. So really it's China or Turkey pick your poison.

    • @VooDooTennessee

      It is possible, but I wouldn't. Watch how I attach the anvil in this video, you can easily use this method on wood or steel anvil stands. ruclips.net/video/IIEmD-ErNRQ/видео.html

    Not all of us are blacksmiths nor aim to be and we don't want to spend $800 for beat to hell worn out excuse for an anvil. I won't break my nice old Columbia vise for an anvil but sometimes I just need to give something a whack! I'm not a tool snob, I'll get one of these. 😊

    I enjoyed your presentatiion. Had anold cast anvil of the 1800s from Shefield England that had a beautiful song and one day I struck the horn and iit made a sickeng sound. THOCK😢 I rolled it over and struck it from the bottom and the horn rolled off and exposed a large bubble.😢😮. I have aa large + 4' high cone from same foundry. Hmmm? Here is a trick for you.
    Put two (three) different sizes of radius' on one side.
    One "sharp as you did" one 1/8" one 1/4" - just next to each other so you can transition from one to the next as needed.
