  • Many of our customers ask us for a completely off-grid solution with Monitoring, this is how we did it.
    We bought a cheap Android Tablet, and got remote monitoring and logging of our Solar System without internet access, perfect for RVs Cabins and just about anything else. You can do the exact same thing on your phone, or old throw away phone.
    We also show how to heat water with all the excess Solar once batteries are fully charged

    Im happy there are other diy solar people out there that seem to be almost addicted to the solar stuff like i am. Seems we cant get enough and always trying to improve. Thanks for making and sharing the videos

    I have a couple of Growatt 500ES like yours - but with a slightly different setup. I have been baffled by some of the stats generated from the cloud site in China. It seems, for example, that much more power goes into the battery than comes out 20 to 30% more. It seems much less efficient than what I expected. (60% seems too low?)
    I have been thinking of getting Home Assistant set up.
    Were you able to redefine settings in the Growatt using Home Assistant? (e.g. If xyz then change Parameter one from SBU to UTL)
    BTW I sometimes see lights flicker and I live in Australia where we have 230v 50Hz. LEDs are more noticeable than incandescent lights.

    Not happy with growatt? Was thinking growatt or mppsolar for practising backup power instead of the more expensive victron. Was visiting family in Utah recently, from Aus.

      The 5000ES in parallel I had 4 of them now down to 3. One blew up about 4 months ago replaced it, popped again months later.
      Occasionally they get into a light flickering spasm when AC input is applied.
      And occasionally have a fault08, have to reset them every so often. The 12000T has been solid, but want to get away from an auto transformer solution due to all the stray currents and phase balancing currents

      @@id007rx Hi Ian, I'm in the process of commissioning a 3 unit parallel SPF5000ES system, and noted you installed yours very close to each other on the wall. Could be the reason for failure due to insufficient air circulation. Having said that, the Solar Assistant looks great, and a lot more usable than the Growatt dongle which is god-awful to even set up. I still don't have it communicating correctly. Will grab one once I'm up and running.

    • @id007rx
      @id007rx Год назад

      Yes. You can, there is a time scheduler to change the priority on the inverter e.g utl to sbu , sub based on time and or battery conditions

    Why isn't solar assistant simply be a an app you can download directly to the android tablet, seems to be a big mess having to use a browser on a tablet to connect to the webserver on the raspberry pie.

    • @ekeretteekpo3004
      @ekeretteekpo3004 5 месяцев назад

      Right? It could simply be an app one installs and uses to connect to the dongle via WiFi like some WiFi router control apps. That's what I was kinda hoping for.
