Whoa! My eyes are twitching! Please don't stand in front of uncovered optical transceivers like that as those things emit non-visible light that can damage your eyes.

Just starting my home network journey and thanx for the insights into bandwidth structure.

I run an Unifi switch with 8x2.5gb and 2x10gb for my TrueNAS servers which are older Dell Servers T330 and T6210. I also run an 8x1gb Cisco switch for IOT and internet. This way I can split my network into home and business both with their own UPS and devices. This way my smarthome, media and such will always have power and internet due to a Cellular backup ISP and my homeserver clusters and backups run off enterprise higher power and speed. We have unpredictable power here in Florida so if power goes out for a few hours I don't even notice, but if the UPSes are chirping when I wake up I can go outside and turn on my backup generator.

@leadiususa7394 I took a 5 year break because work had made computers no fun for me anymore. No other work seemed to fill that need, so it is alot of catching up to do, but worth it.

@@michaelamos75 I understand, I learn that I had to play as hard as I worked. This gave me balance between the two. DO what is making you happy and enjoy what you do. If not than loot at it and see what will make you happy. Like taking the old stuff you have and think outside the box to turn it into something else. Keep enjoying man!

hey brad i would go 100 gigabit because you'll never replace it
You can use a breakout cable for your 10 gigabit switch
and yes some switches are expensive but not all also you would be giving your 10 gigabit switch a full 10 gigabit not 8 gigabit
Does anyone need 100 gigabit probably not everyone, but because you like to experiment with a lot of things i would say you do.
if you want to see something crazy though theirs this 400 gigabit
    ruclips.net/video/8JxK2be1Nf0/видео.html
but i dont see anyone yet showcasing these type on tech talk any time soon.
but presumably if you use one switch over using several wont this increase efficiency in your network.

Very true and Wow 400GB switch... It is about time.. I have seen switches like these that run ten of thousands of dollars but the key thing here is both 100GB and higher still have some none standards in play. Call them features. LOL These feature help the vendor get around some issues but may down the road not be fully at speed as promised, So was give it some more time.. I agree I could abuse a 100 GB network... /:>

@@leadiususa7394 also i dont know what your full skill set is in regards to technical ability but is it not possible for anyone to create features that are not currently available for 100 gb network like they have for 10 gb and isnt the fun part in actually doing this like the proxmox you built
