I like that you mentioned the importance of sample selection. So many videos on youtube tripped me up in the beginning because they're like "ok now we're going to saturate the kick and then eq it and then compress it and then GLUE compress it and then add 12 more plugins." Just pick a better kick!
I always have a reverb send, if not more. For fast paced edm music, the reverb send is short decay, usually not that diffused. But it does depend. That's more for the mix side of things, and depends on sanples (but I avoid wet samples, at least ones with spatial effects). There's also ways I use it for sound design and effects for certain sections or hits.
Slurp De Doo Dah Big G!! I "Like" Reverb on certain sounds, although I prefer Delay for space and "openness" For Drums. I love the TRANSIENT SHAPER form KHZ On My Drums And Hats/ cymbals to control the tightness OR loose Sounding Drums/cymbals. Evan On MY ROCK Tracks as well. Thanks Big G for the Great Tutorial and I will apply this technique when necessary. Peace and GOOD HEALTH to All!! KEEP SLURPING!!!😎

Haha yes absolutely bro , 90% of the work is in the sample selection
