    Enjoy and Thank you

    I’ve been watching and listening carefully. My scrapers are working for me so much better now. Lovely shavings instead of powder and better control. I find that your videos are of such good quality that I can pinch out the view on the screen to get a very close up view of the tool touching the wood without losing any detail in the video. Very helpful for those of us watching on a touch screen. You telling us what you’re doing and what’s happening with each thing is the best instruction I’ve ever had in all my years at the lathe. Thank you so very much!

      Totally agree. Some turners think they’re a waste of time or not worth it. But I love them. Quick to do, and they’re perfect for nuts or trail mix etc.

    The surprising thing about this is that the bowl looks almost the same size as the block of wood you began with. I like the shape and the utilitarian feel of it. Thanks for teaching me!

    Thanks for the video. It's a great bowl. I sharpened them out of acacia and walnut. I polish with oil. I use 120 grains and that's it :) Then I polish it at 1800 rpm with a regular paper napkin.

    Another very beautiful bowl and a project that I need to do more of. The size of this bowl fits the size of wood readily available where I live. The detail you provide during the videos is quite helpful.

    A sweet little bowl and the shape complements the grain. Do the tannins stain the lathe? Beautiful work. thanks for another education and entertaining video.

      They can but not all the time,just like skin.... When I learn my trade,there was 10 of us students and Croatia has one of the best oaks, (slavonski hrast) and we work a lot of furniture out of it and we all had dark hands😀 and lemons.😄

    How do you decide on using a large diameter gouge when hollowing a small bowl like this?

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  11 дней назад +1

      I grab bigger gouge when I feel that there is vibrations or if I have to hollow deeper...also with bigger gouge you can have bigger bite

    How do you suggest that your customer maintain the Finnish on your bowls? Thank you.

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  13 дней назад +1

      Wash it after use with warm water and soup
      Don't leave liquids for longer inside
      To bring out color again use linseed oil that is used for salads
      That is it☺️

    I'm sure you might can answer this. I tried a 9in bowl on my small lathe. Mix of sap and heart wood of maple. I never got the wobble out the outer bowl shape. What might I be doing wrong?

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  11 дней назад

      Hmm, could be few things.
      Your tehnique could be pushing the tools way too much in wood and it fights back, or the disbalance of blank could be an issue and you need to bring the speed down to true it up...
      Also loose lathe can couse problems as well....
      Runout usually isn't an issue unless its really big.
      And if you hollow the bowl it might moved a lot cousing movement.
      Try to eliminate one by one

      I just want to say thank you for the feedback. I think you've helped me. My lathe is belt driven and slowest speed is 750rpm. I was trying to hurry to get it round and pushing to hard which kept the bowl out of balance. Since I can't get the wobble out of the small lathe I found if I brace my fingers on the tool rest and allow my hand to bounce with the vibration with light cuts I can get a more round bowl. You've been so helpful in helping me find the problem. Thank you from the eastern time zone of the USA. I'm new and still learning. Maybe one day I'll be able to get a more stable lathe.

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning

      Tanins from chestnut and walnut before the video, its normal if your hands sweat and you work with oak or similar wood with high tanic acid.
