Bit of a late comment, but I got to ride an 800 xrx yesterday (my Tiger 1200 was in for a service and the 800 was a courtesy bike). Now I love my 1200xrt, I know its big and heavy, but it's fast and surprisingly agile through the twisties. However, after riding the 800 yesterday, I seriously wondered if I bought the right model. The 800 was just so rideable - light, quick and easy to flick about. I rode the same stretch of road on the two bikes yesterday, and while the 1200 was just effortlessly faster everywhere, the 800 was, and I almost hate to say it, more enjoyable. I won't be trading in my 1200 as I enjoy doing long tours on it, but I'd advise anyone thinking of the 1200 to have a ride on the 800 first - it's cheaper to buy and run, and you may just like it a whole lot more!
Couldn’t agree more! I test rode both the 1200 & 800 and have just bought an XRX 800. Panniers & top box were included in the price, so got a fairly good deal.
once fully loaded with luggage and a pillion, i feel it wouldn't have the power to even overtake comfortably? I only ride with the mrs and luggage going on tours.
TMF, NO-MEN-CLA-TURE, as my old mate JimmyBob from America now living in Glasgow would say. Sadly, Jimmy passed away in his sleep last Saturday. RIP JimmyBob. We had a deal, if i went first he would get my R100S, if he passed, I inherited his set of hand made knives. Sound review and as you said Triumph are really stepping up to the plate in terms of build quality and range of machines. Thanks for sharing. A82 Joe.
I've ridden this machine 3 times (1 time wet, 2 times dry) and I have absolutely fallen in love with it. As soon as my payments are done for my Street Triple (3 years D':) I will be buying one for everyday use. Such a beautiful bike. I can't fault it. Thanks for the video! Hope you had fun on the machine.
To mathew, if your bike is on a pcp you can hand it back after 2 years as long as half the payment has been made. I have to wait until August next year for that!!
charles pooshay Hiya Charles. Thank-you for the advice but it's a HP deal. Besides, I would never want to give my Street Triple up. I just wanna turn it into a summer/track weapon and have the Tiger as my everyday workhorse :)
I'm really pleased you managed to review this bike. Many of us on here I'm sure, use your reviews to compare our experiences with yours. I ordered my new 800 back in Nov after I saw it at the NEC. It's the XRX Low version which arrived in April and I've since put 2,500 miles on the clock. It's an absolute pleasure to ride as your review shows. It has everything I could want in a mid-size touring/adventure style bike. The Triple engine is really great and the bike comes equipped with many features that are optional extras on other bikes in the same price bracket. Another Triumph for...well Triumph.
I like the Tiger. The frame work and such gives it that Mad Max type of feel. If I was in the market, I'd give this one a test ride for sure. Good job, Flyer!
Been riding this bike for just over a year. 12 thousand Km in the Austrian Alps and Italian Dolomites. Can’t fault it really. I make multi camera videos of most of my trips and I have rented many other models around the world as part of that. The Tiger triple engine is the only one that doesn’t give me vibration problems with mounted cameras. Also has the best wind protection of any bike I’ve ridden. Can ride at any speed with visor open in a bubble of calm 😁👍
Not a pretty bike in IMHO, but perhaps one of the most practical and safest bikes to have. I went from a R1200RT to one of these, a year earlier. I was very impressed with how high Triumph specs are. The triple engine is amazing, but I didn’t like the sound, even with an Arrow can, so I went on to a T120. Great bike though and good review thank you. Pete
Hi from California and thanks for yet another great and entertaining review! As it happens, I just sat on one of these at my local dealer and was pleasantly shocked at how light and accessible it felt - just as you say. I love my Street Cup, but for the long hauls it’s awful! This guy seems to be begging for me to take one home. Almost afraid to test ride! Ride safe, sir!!
I am looking at the XCA 800 version, and it is the only Adventure bike on the market where I can touch the ground with both feet with the seat in the high position 170 cm tall I am. Thanks for testing the newer model as I have not ridden one yet, but my mate has the older XC model and it is a fantastic off road bike.
I bought a 2016 XRT after watching your review of the previous XRT followed up by a lengthy test ride. I'm still in love with it after nearly two years ownership and its been a great all round bike for a daily commute and trips to Europe. The engine is a beauty. Lovely and smooth with fantastic torque. Other than a failed battery and a disagreement with an old lady reversing her car into it, its been trouble free. I do agree that the area in front of the handlebars is a bit of an eyesore but at least the new screen looks like its solved the problems of my poorly designed one (my biggest gripe). I do think the new colour schemes are a step back though. I love my candy apple red one. I'd love to see you do a review riding from Amersham to Hazlemere (but only because it was my commute thirty odd years ago)!
Because the Honda VRF800X is no longer available here in Australia, I took Tiger 800xca for a test ride last week. Much inproverment in the Tiger that really Keen to buy it. Great review TMF!
Enjoyed the review. Love the enthusiasm! What’s with blurring the speedo at high speeds? Concealing evidence in case of a mishap? 😄 Knock wood, stay safe and enjoy those fine British bikes in lovely old England!
Next year itll be a 955 another year a 1050 in 3 years a 1200..then itll be an 800 again..... I like the original tiger ...transalp...vstrom(still got mine) ..just like old bikes i suppose... I think it would look great with Gunmetal wheels..actually spokes even better (i just hate modern stuff) why am i watching this ? Because im jelous and will probably have one on fifteen years like all the bikes you review.. Keep on keeping on TMF the reviews are top notch brother ☮❤
Good review TMF. I really need to test ride one of these. The new 1200 is a great bike so would be interesting to see how it's little brother holds up!
Glad to see you did a review of this bike. Two questions for you or anyone who can answer. 1) In your opinion does the new Yamaha Tracer GT compete, or are they in different classes (only care about the road, no off-roading)? 2) It is very hot where I live, how is the engine heat coming off this newly designed bike?
I've had my older 800 for a couple years now. Agree with you that the engine power is plenty. I don't know why anyone would need the 'big' one unless 2-up and much luggage. Seat and windscreen on the previous model were both rubbish and the cruise control is highly desirable here in the US. Sounds like Triumph has done some worthwhile improvements without mucking it up. Excellent!
Hello again MissendenFlyer, Congratulations for your test! I already tried this bike and I confess that I did not like the whole at all. (I really like the Tiger 800 from 2011 until 2016 - for me these are a true classic). The new Tiger has things that I did not like like: the driving position (which for me is aggressive), the vibration that now has the handlebar (after driving the hands had them without blood), the engine sound (has a rare "clak"). Another thing more the consumption of this motorcycle seems to me too much. I'm not saying that I´m nostalgic. I like technology and the new. What I want to say that for my taste this bike does not fit me. I really congratulate the people of Triumph because they are doing very well. And they offer a lot of variety and quality to bikers ......
Hi TMF, after a bit of further research I took your advice. After test driving a few tigers from 1050 to the off roader. ive bought a new XRT. thank you T
I test rode this bike yesterday, and I was very impressed. I was looking at the 850gs but that is too high and just as heavy as its big brother!! I found that under the seat gets hot on the Tiger, also as you said blurry mirrors. And I found turbulent air which was uncomfy. But a lot going for it so this is (probably ) the bike I buy next August. Just exspensive for what you get, and luggage is £1200 extra and is made by givi.
Hey there, great review as always. My question is it really worth replacing my 2015 800 XRx with new one? Mainly using my bike for everyday riding and sometimes taking her out for longer trips.
Good review as ever TMF. As an owner of a 2015 xrx I have to say although the new bike looks fantastic, it’s not enough to make me want to trade in. I can see owners of the first generation 800s being tempted though.
As expected, another relaxed and informative review. Thing is, as opposed to many of the reviews, I actually may be interested in purchasing this bike. I’ve ridden the previous models and some of the other bikes that compete for my coins. So far, the 2018 Africa Twin wins, but not by much.
Cotti Nice. I didn’t like the blue on the screen but I saw one first hand and it’s gorgeous. I have a 37” inside leg (no really) so I’m looking forward to riding one to see how it fits out of the box before tweaks.
C Huzz I've got a 34" inside leg and found the XC variant more comfortable as it has marginally taller suspension (and higher bars, bit you can have risers fitted for the XR the dealer assures me).
I would love to get to know this bike with all its bells & whistles .. It is $15350.00 here in the USA .. I tried last years XCx at our local dealer as a left over demo bike at a great price . I Liked it a lot but with a 29inch inseam I was happier with the XRx and happier still with the Street Scrambler .. Thanks for taking us for the ride .. It would be interesting to see the street version with a shaft drive ..(maybe adding too much wieght ).. All the best from the back roads of New ENgland ... yours Guy PS It has been since 1975 that I last saw a chain on a bike I've owned.. How about a chain cleaning oiling and adjustment clip :)
Really good bike. Know a guy who went around the world on one... I tried b4 getting my last bike and to b honest I thought it was a bit underpowered. Sounds like the 2018 cures this somewhat but still not convinced. The issue also is, there are waaay too many of these bikes around. They just don't feel special. Good practical, sensible bikes though. Great 2nd hand buy.
Nice bike (and a good review of course!). Like you I think that the “middleweight” category of adventure touring style bikes probably makes more sense in most situations than the big boys. Looking forward to KTM building a range around their new parallel twin.
My wide and I ride 2-up for weeks at a time on our XRT. Excellent for all road contitions as well as some 2-track dirt roads. Last bike was a 1200 RT and the XRT is a better bike in our opinion. Weight is the deciding factor. Much easier to flick around.
Nice review. I'm really thinking of getting a xrx but I'm a bit afraid of several forums about excessive heat spread on the legs, especially during summer. I also read this new version reduced but didn't solve the problem at all. Any comments about? Thanks a lot from Italy
@@TheMissendenFlyer thanks for your prompt reply. This is good news but several forums discuss much about this excessive heating on the knees and legs. I suppose this effect is personal and looks impossible to have a cold bike (any brand or engine) when the outdoor temperature in August is around 40 °C. Anyway you published your video on July
I had a 2015 roadie and liked the bike bgut sold it due to the short gearing. Always felt stressed even in 6th gear. Why they didn't stretch the gears out and make a more relaxed cruise rpm is beyond me. I don't think this bike solves that problem since only 1 st gear was changed.
I love the looks of Triumph's retro bikes and for some reason I also like the decidedly un-retro looks of this bike too. I guess maybe I'm just a Triumph fanboy.
Mr. Flyer- I visited this review which is a few months old; I enjoyed it a lot. I would ask two questions: First, is this XRt model usable on dirt roads and second, would you ever consider replacing your GS with this bike? Thanks, Bob
Hi, nice videos you have! Thinking of upgrading my 2009 v-strom 650. Biggest complaints are brakes and suspension. I once tried the 2014 v-strom 1000, big diference in engine and breaks, road pavement was good, so can't say much about suspension. Tried too a tiger 800 xrx, what i remember the most is how plush the suspension was. At the end of the short ride during a moto show, I intentionally passed over every hole and bump I could find and almost didn't feel them. Very comfortable! How would you compare these regarding suspension in bad pavement and ease of use filtering city traffic? Best regards!
Great video, love your work. I’m looking at the 800 once I pass my test at the end of next month! You rode the 800 XCA in a previous video and found the seat a bit uncomfortable. How would you compare the XCA seat or the XRT seat? 😊
I think you were in Thailand ad you had done a long ride with a pillion who also said the seat was a bit hard. I’m just wondering which is the better bike for comfort for the road. I know the XRT is road focussed but let me know if you’d recommend looking at the XCA for travelling around Kent/London?!
Nice review, I had the 2011 spoked wheel version a few years ago and loved it, so if they’ve improved an already good bike that’s a good thing. Out of interest what version of GoPro camera are you using, I’m looking to upgrade my old one very soon.
Great review! I always wondered why triumph welds the passenger pegs to the frame Vs bolt on. Certainly would create a problem for the owner should they ever snap off from a crash or tip over.
Hey MFly. I just purchased an XRT. My great Triumph dealer, Locomotion Powersports in Mahwah (We have names like that) New Jersey, is graciously holding it for me until the weather agrees with a new machine. Will report. Cheers.
Hi TMF, great review as always. My question is purely on speculation as I don't think you've ridden one yet but this triumph or the new BMW F850 GS? Also do the middleweight adventure type bikes make for the best do it all machine for those of us who can only have one bike in the garage? Keep up the the good work, cheers 👍🏻
Very good review, and I'm curious about the equipment you use for sound recording in your helmet, do you use the GoPro and mic adapter? Which mic do you use? You can hear both the engine and your talk very well and the wind noise is not disturbing, like it :-)
Miss my old 2016 XRX... Especially the heated grips and cruise control... Must say I prefer the original clocks, not a fan of tft per se. Please Triumph can we have this bike with shaft drive? The 1200 is too over the top for me personally and if they produced the 800 as a shafty with a tad more power then I,d snap up another no question. Anyone need a genuine Triumph low seat for an 800 then I have an unmarked one available at a very reasonable price.
Really like your reviews. I am gravitating towards an adventure type bike - had a FZ6 15 years ago.. how would you recon a 2012 Multistrada 1200S (63.000km) compared to a 2018 Triumph 800XRT (6.000 km)? Or even a 2016 VFR800X (25.000km) or a 2015 MT09 Tracer. Or perhaps a F800GSA. About same price - fully equipped, service etc
Hey MFly. Been writing you a bunch lately as my bike shrink across the pond! Interested in your thoughts on this question. F750gs vs Tiger 800. I have a deal in place for an 800xrx that would be about $1500 to 2000 less than the deal for the BMW. Not all the goodies of the highest spec but alot less and can add additional farkles later. I'm thinking this is a no brainer but do you think the BMW is that much better? Personally I really like the larger fuel capacity and gas mileage of the triumph as we're losing gas stations in NYC daily! Also Triumph perhaps cheaper to own overall. What do you say, doc? Thanks!
Both are great bikes, you won't be disappointed with either - go for the one you like the looks of. I personally would marginally take the BMW (as that TFT is so darn good and the ergos are just right)...
@@TheMissendenFlyer Thanks so much! I believe it's going to be the Tiger. I've had 3 Triumphs, have a great relationship with my Triumph dealer who's put up with me for years. They're the sort who always go the extra mile and that's invaluable. Plus, tank range and all that weather protection is great for a daily commuter. I'll keep you posted! Cheers from the Big Apple.
I think the idea behind XC and XR is: "Cross" Country & "Cross" Road; "X" being "cross". Maybe? That's my thoughts and as I'm sitting here in Kabul, I had time to think about it. Great vids btw!
Hmm, may pop up to Palmers and get a test ride. When you come out of Ashridge, turn right instead of going left through Berkhampstead and you'll miss the traffic (unless you wish to test its filtering capabilities) and come out at the Tring A41 exit. It's quicker and a few more fast bends on the way. 👍
Thanks for your vids.. I was torn between the 1200 and the 800 and reckon your reviews helped sort it out a bit. Live in Denmark so prices are a lot more here cos of the taxes.. I will save you the heart attack with the prices..mind you, we earn more ;). I gave both bikes a good long test ride on varying surfaces and in the end there was really no choice at all. The 800XRT won hands down. On the 1200 In 1st gear at low speed I could feel the shaft judder a bit..annoying..I could hear a distinct shaft whine when up to speed. Didnt think the downshift on quick shift was great. Yes, you get quichshift, electronic suspension and electric screen but then you only get roughly the same performance AND its just too damn heavy...get it all filled up and full touring kit with missus on the back I would have the best part of 500 kilos on my tippy toes..It just wasnt worth the extra 100k Kroner..yes..thats 12K quid. Have clocked up the first 1000 km on the 800Xrt and it grows more on me each time. I´ve got older and gone down from a tuned 164 HP Daytona 955i to a standard Sprint 1050ST to a 94HP tiddler.. Be honest..the 800 is just as much fun and a lot more easy on the body. A great great bike..Scott oiler on and rear hugger so we are sorted. The wife sits great on the back so all is well in the land og the Vikings.
Great you get time to answer..Thx. I didnt just look for your Triumph Vid.. I ´ve been watching a lot of your tests no matter what bike and all other info as well..get a bit nerdy as I get older. Subscribe to Bike and Practical Sportsbike for my monthly read as I also have a Yam FZ750 87´ ( just bought from my daughter ) and Kawa Z1000 LTD 81´ ( had for 17 years ) both undergoing resto. Anyways, thx again and keep up the good work. Regards Steve.@@TheMissendenFlyer
That is my most common route for a quick blast out......mix of everything.......if you turn right opposite where you used to stop then it takes you upto Ivinghoe Beacon, very nice spot for pictures and that is where the Captain does his stops and a bit past there is where Royal Jordanian does his stops when out on the KTM or Husky rides.........sorry lots of useless information there, great review as always......would you have this or the new Tracer 900 GT?
Yamaha has great engine and brakes, but it is not stable at high speeds, Tiger is way more stable and relaxing , Triumph also has a silky smooth vibration free engine.
I think the Tracer is the better bike - but I'd have the Tiger Sport.....or are you talking about the Tiger 800??? In which case I'd take the Tracer GT...
Very impressive- I'm a 5'8" punter. Main competition for my viewpoint is the Guzzi 85tt with shaft drive. Triumph has centre stand so chain adj/living not a problem. Guzzi 85tt has a shaft final drive. Done an 85tt video?
Could you please review the tiger 800 again. I mean provide more of long term perspective. Most of the videos on tiger 800 are initial impression. Need long term review. Thanks.
I understand there is quite a difference between the weather in England and in Italy, but I'd like to know from you if you have felt an anormal (or excessive) heat coming from the engine at low/city speed. Here in Italy is one of the main complains abt this bike (and the Tiger 1200). What can you tell me abt this?
Kawasaki also did the same (or didn't do, I should say) with Versys 650. It gets awfully dirty all over the underside, mud and dirt on the shock, engine and subframe... it's a pain in the butt to clean! And keeping it clean is pretty much impossible unless you ride on floor tiles. lol Someone on the Versys forum directed me towards a cheap (read: affordable) Chinese rear hugger for about £40 and I will definitely put in an order for one. It's crazy that Givi and Pyramid are asking upwards of £100 for theirs, for god sake it's just a piece of plastic!
Great video, the touring bike category is really starting to come to the forefront for me as I intend to do lots of tours in the future. Great bike apart from the front, looks like its missing something, aka the beak you mentioned. I never used to be a fan of some of the touring bikes. Could you do a ride on a vfr 800 or ninja 650?
Hi - so for general on road touring in UK n Europe what bike, this or the GS? By the way your review of the Triumph SPEEDMASTER has resulted in me placing an order. I went into my local Triumph dealer for a final stroke of the beauty yesterday before taking delivery! You have a lot to answer for and she who must be obeyed is also looking forward to having a quiet word!!
TheMissendenFlyer - yes that’ll be two bikes in the “collection” (MT09 SP). The current Mrs G is far too tall for you TMF!! Anyway back to the point - what’s your view on the Tiger compared with the GS? Mind you BMW have a baby GS out and that too may warrant a look? Your views are very helpful and your vids are brilliant. Keep up the good work and ride safe.
Yes Jimo368, they stick out like a pair of Bull Dogs Bollocks, the bracket should be bolted to the frame,so you can take them off if needed. Sick of ragging my bike trousers getting the bike in and out of the shed.
Also a very interesting bike and therefore on my list if I need to change my current bike or if I should have enough money to buy another. Totally agree about bike power needed. You need a big joystick on the fuel tank in stead of the tiny one on the left handle 😋
TheMissendenFlyer put some knobblies on any bike and it'll go off road ,but it may not be the most comfy of experiences.A friend bought a cross runner the older version as it was very cheap ,fitted some I think Pirelli more off road biased tyres and has successfully used it for green laneing in Wales without issue .I do believe the bigger hoop on the triumph will help with the more serious off road adventures but for the money a ktm 1090 has got to be a good comparison rather than a tracer .
Very tempting option against the more pricey GS. As both a GS rider and also a triumph fan (and rider with the ST), what would you plump for if you decided on purchasing a new adventure bike that met day to day needs and also the occasional blat to tour our beautiful parts of the country. (As you do).
TheMissendenFlyer thanks TMF - the scaffolding on the ‘A’ is a little bit of s turn off compared to the GS with vario pans but that would be the same case with the Tiger with a pannier set on. Thanks again.
TheMissendenFlyer GSA 850 Sport feels like the right middle ground. Besides rumour has it a new R1200 GS is on its way next year as the supply chain for new ones are apparently drying up - which they (the dealers)suggest its a signal for a new model on the way...
13C ! No wonder you said nothing about the engine heat. My test was in 29 C heat and left me near heat stroke. Wind protection is too effective for the city. Maybe an easily removable screen like the Harley Roadking would be better if you also use it for commuting. Lovely lovely lovely bike, though. Really enjoyed it.
I already own a St Triple R and Thunderbird 900. Bought a Tiger for touring but have to say Id rather use my STR! Downsides to the Tiger: bufferting from the rubbish screen, blurry mirrors, can feel the heating elements in the seat, had to fit a hugger and mudgaurd extensions.
The minute Triumph fit the tiger 1050 sport with the TFT screen and put the cruise control on the left like on this new tiger 800, ill be breaking down the door for one!! Its the only 2 things putting me off getting a 1050 sport sooner, its the last "modern" bike in the triumph range i believe that still has the old clocks/dash, and having the cruise button on the throttle side it just a bit daft... so im hoping the tiger sport gets these updates for march 2019!!!?
I own an 2018 XCX and I am 5.5 ft and can’t flat foot the bike. Planning to lower the rear and front suspensions. By doing so, does it change the dynamics of the bike and ride quality. Would be most obliged if you could advise me. Thanks for the wonderful video.
Yes it will have an affect on the dynamics of the bike but I wouldn’t think much (provided front and rear are lowered the same amount) and getting your feet on the deck is quite important! Good idea, get it done.....
Yes Sir that was for 1200 XCA - I like to know the differences between XCA and XRT 1200. it would be great if you have a chance to review it too. I'm considering 1200 GS or 1200 Triumph but not the adventure ones. (gonna go 75/25 on-road/off-road) and want to know which one should I go with? Thank you so much - YOU ARE AWESOME!

Couldn’t agree more! I test rode both the 1200 & 800 and have just bought an XRX 800. Panniers & top box were included in the price, so got a fairly good deal.
once fully loaded with luggage and a pillion, i feel it wouldn't have the power to even overtake comfortably? I only ride with the mrs and luggage going on tours.

charles pooshay Hiya Charles. Thank-you for the advice but it's a HP deal. Besides, I would never want to give my Street Triple up. I just wanna turn it into a summer/track weapon and have the Tiger as my everyday workhorse :)
"Wind mirrors are looking a little blurred at high speeds", well so is the TFT screen Mr. Flyer 😂

See what you did there! ;0)
Really like this one, could easily be my next bike after I've tired of being blown to shreds on my Street Triple. Top stuff again TMF.
Ditto, just about to trade in my street triple for one of these 👍
Me too, it's now 2023 and I tried the new Tiger 900 GT Pro. No thanks this older 800 seems to have it beaten :)
It was me Mr F who said about that route. keep up the good work 😊
Was waiting for your review on this model. Thanks TMF.
Very nice review. Congrats TMF. Waited a long time for your opinion!!
Finally found a Tiger I actually like :) great review as always fella
Thanks for testing the newer model as I have not ridden one yet, but my mate has the older XC model and it is a fantastic off road bike.
...this one is a significant improvement too!
I'm sure that route has featured on my videos many times (I frequently refuel in Hazlemere)....
as usual another great review from TMF its one of the bikes I'm thinking of getting and enjoyed your review as always
Cheers David!
I pick my xca up Thursday sold my GS Adventure. Love this new 800 peach of an engine and light compared to the German Tractor.
What is the point of those massive bikes? Complete overkill.
Because the Honda VRF800X is no longer available here in Australia, I took Tiger 800xca for a test ride last week. Much inproverment in the Tiger that really Keen to buy it. Great review TMF!
Bradley Shields : i’m sad me too the VFR800X is not available in Canada
Looks a gorgeous bike. I dont mind the view of the cable routing etc, certainly from the camera angle. Looks very flickable! Thanks for the review!
On the verge of trading in my street triple for one of these (time to grow up....a bit). Great review. Thanks 👍
I think it would look great with
Gunmetal wheels..actually spokes even better (i just hate modern stuff) why am i watching this ? Because im jelous and will probably have one on fifteen years like all the bikes you review..
Keep on keeping on TMF the reviews are top notch brother ☮❤
Thank you very much!
Good review TMF. I really need to test ride one of these. The new 1200 is a great bike so would be interesting to see how it's little brother holds up!
I far prefer it to its top heavy big brother...
1 Yamaha Tracer GT is an awesome machine, defo a worthy competitor and 2 didn’t notice any heat (Tracer GT review coming soon!)
Excellent!
Yes they’ve done a top job on this - a great bike already significantly improved in my opinion....
Hello again MissendenFlyer,
Congratulations for your test!
Thanks for watching Jorge - appreciated!
Hi TMF,
after a bit of further research I took your advice. After test driving a few tigers from 1050 to the off roader. ive bought a new XRT. thank you T
Congrats!
Yes - I think it is! (Assuming money no object)
You should take this route from now on, plus you have your own private car park to walk around the bike, brilliant as you Brits say !
...is it only us Brits that say "brilliant" then?? Who knew!!
I'm now the proud owner of Tiger 800 XRT which I picked up last Wednesday and really couldn't be happier it's just a really good all round motorcycle.
Congratulations Chips!
Thanks mate.
Good review as ever TMF. As an owner of a 2015 xrx I have to say although the new bike looks fantastic, it’s not enough to make me want to trade in.
I can see owners of the first generation 800s being tempted though.
Fair enough!
As expected, another relaxed and informative review. Thing is, as opposed to many of the reviews, I actually may be interested in purchasing this bike. I’ve ridden the previous models and some of the other bikes that compete for my coins. So far, the 2018 Africa Twin wins, but not by much.
Give one of these a go, you may be swayed!
Not sure if you mentioned it Mr.Flyer but the xrt,s backlit switchgear is awesome.!
Yes nice touch from Triumph...
Much awaited!!! An XCA would have been better though :) good job anyways !! How tall are you TMF?? And is it comfortable for you ??
5'8" no issues
Excellent machine! I got one in Matt Blue 👍🏻
Cotti Nice. I didn’t like the blue on the screen but I saw one first hand and it’s gorgeous. I have a 37” inside leg (no really) so I’m looking forward to riding one to see how it fits out of the box before tweaks.
I like the blue. Matt pains worries me though as you can't polish a scratch out and I wonder about knees making a shiny spot
Cotti are you happy with your purchase - any downsides so far? Agree blue is the colour to go for all day long
C Huzz I've got a 34" inside leg and found the XC variant more comfortable as it has marginally taller suspension (and higher bars, bit you can have risers fitted for the XR the dealer assures me).
Steve Povey I think there are knee pads in the options list, more for comfort than anything but could help with that too?
Nice bike. The fit and finish on the triumphs is second to none.
Great review. I was very interested to see the differences between this and my 2015 XRx.
Hi guy - I have published at least two videos on chain cleaning and oiling! All the best - TMF
Nice Review. Love that triple engine sound...it's like music. Guess that's why I ride one.
15:49 Nicely blurred, Mr. Flyer!
Great review - a good looking bike with plenty of nice features for all types of riding . Pity the mirrors and speedo become blurry at high speeds.
Nice bike (and a good review of course!). Like you I think that the “middleweight” category of adventure touring style bikes probably makes more sense in most situations than the big boys. Looking forward to KTM building a range around their new parallel twin.
Yes me too - I’ve already (yesterday) put in a request to try the new 790 adventure when it comes....
My wide and I ride 2-up for weeks at a time on our XRT. Excellent for all road contitions as well as some 2-track dirt roads. Last bike was a 1200 RT and the XRT is a better bike in our opinion. Weight is the deciding factor. Much easier to flick around.
thank for the tips my friend ride safe it arrives on Sunday like a kid waiting for Christmas very excited. T
Happy days!
Great review...Does this have Quick shifter!
I bought a new 2017 XRX TFC screen in white! A great bike allrounder! Bit of a bugger to clean
But no need to have the heavier 1200 cc models !
Nice review. I'm really thinking of getting a xrx but I'm a bit afraid of several forums about excessive heat spread on the legs, especially during summer. I also read this new version reduced but didn't solve the problem at all. Any comments about?
Thanks a lot from Italy
I didn’t notice any heat, but then again I ride a Panigale! (Two wheeled furnace!!)
Thanks for posting. Bike purrs like a kitten. The engine never seems to be stressing. Great video.
Nothing wrong with that! I’m a signed up member of the club!!
Mr. Flyer- I visited this review which is a few months old; I enjoyed it a lot. I would ask two questions: First, is this XRt model usable on dirt roads and second, would you ever consider replacing your GS with this bike? Thanks, Bob
I think yes and yes!
Sounds like it's overall a big improvement over the older models. Quicker engine spin up sounds very nice indeed.
Yes a really noticeable set of upgrades...
Cracking review, very informative.
Beautiful bike and it's my second top dream bike after the Yamaha Tracer. Sir, how's the reliability of the Triumph Tiger 800?
No reason to believe it's any worse than any other Triumph (ie good)....
TheMissendenFlyer Great to hear that sir. Please do a review of the Tracer 900 GT sir.
Another good review TMF - Thanks.
Was the Arrow pipe something the dealer has changed or do you think it is stock on the XRT?
Good question - I have a feeling it's stock but don't actually know....
Great video, love your work. I’m looking at the 800 once I pass my test at the end of next month! You rode the 800 XCA in a previous video and found the seat a bit uncomfortable. How would you compare the XCA seat or the XRT seat? 😊
From what I can remember I think they're pretty much identical....
I think you were in Thailand ad you had done a long ride with a pillion who also said the seat was a bit hard. I’m just wondering which is the better bike for comfort for the road. I know the XRT is road focussed but let me know if you’d recommend looking at the XCA for travelling around Kent/London?!
I personally can tell no difference in comfort between the Tigers - go with the one you like the look of most!
Please review how she's like during a night ride and some spirited riding around city, if possible. Thanks for the reviews!
Oops, too late now!
That's a cracking honest review, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice review, I had the 2011 spoked wheel version a few years ago and loved it, so if they’ve improved an already good bike that’s a good thing. Out of interest what version of GoPro camera are you using, I’m looking to upgrade my old one very soon.
Details in the description Hero 4 IIRC....
Thanks, I was watching on my iPhone, couldn’t see it in the description.
Thanks for the review! Cheers from America 🇺🇸 👍!
My pleasure!
XRT = cross/road touring
XCT = cross/country touring
cross indicating it's road bias (not road only)..etc
is my educated guess.
Great review! I always wondered why triumph welds the passenger pegs to the frame Vs bolt on. Certainly would create a problem for the owner should they ever snap off from a crash or tip over.
They don't do that on all bikes - my Street Triple ones I removed by unbolting....
TheMissendenFlyer good to know they’re not all designed that way!!
I really love the color.
Great review! this or the crossrunner?
Crossrunner if on-road only - this if a Triumph fan and there's a chance you may want to go off-road...
Hey MFly. I just purchased an XRT. My great Triumph dealer, Locomotion Powersports in Mahwah (We have names like that) New Jersey, is graciously holding it for me until the weather agrees with a new machine. Will report. Cheers.
Congratulations! Exciting times eh?!
Looks like an excellent bike, thanks for the review :-)
Hi TMF, great review as always. My question is purely on speculation as I don't think you've ridden one yet but this triumph or the new BMW F850 GS? Also do the middleweight adventure type bikes make for the best do it all machine for those of us who can only have one bike in the garage?
Keep up the the good work, cheers 👍🏻
Review of the f850gs is in the can - stay tuned! ....and yes on the second point!
Very good review, and I'm curious about the equipment you use for sound recording in your helmet, do you use the GoPro and mic adapter? Which mic do you use?
You can hear both the engine and your talk very well and the wind noise is not disturbing, like it :-)
Yep GoPro - deets in description
Miss my old 2016 XRX... Especially the heated grips and cruise control... Must say I prefer the original clocks, not a fan of tft per se. Please Triumph can we have this bike with shaft drive? The 1200 is too over the top for me personally and if they produced the 800 as a shafty with a tad more power then I,d snap up another no question. Anyone need a genuine Triumph low seat for an 800 then I have an unmarked one available at a very reasonable price.
I second that :)
@@guywolff If they put a shaft drive on it then it would be bigger/heavier and you would be pining for lighter and easier to wiggle around.
I think you're right! Enjoy Kabul....I hear it's hot this time of year...
Thanks for that - although my purpose on that route was to try it in as many conditions as possible....
We all come to the same conclusion in the end Steve!
Fun and informative + a white (or brown?) van or two = TMF review. Nice.
I do own an a Suzuky Bandit 1200 and I making it look light and agile in towns or high ways and all happening in UK
Not entirely sure I follow you but thanks for watching and for stopping by!
Tough one! Tracer 900 GT review coming soon!
Yamaha has great engine and brakes, but it is not stable at high speeds, Tiger is way more stable and relaxing , Triumph also has a silky smooth vibration free engine.
Great reviews of this Tiger and Tracer 900 GT. Do have a preference?
I think the Tracer is the better bike - but I'd have the Tiger Sport.....or are you talking about the Tiger 800??? In which case I'd take the Tracer GT...
Very impressive- I'm a 5'8" punter. Main competition for my viewpoint is the Guzzi 85tt with shaft drive. Triumph has centre stand so chain adj/living not a problem. Guzzi 85tt has a shaft final drive. Done an 85tt video?
No I haven’t Andrew....
Could you please review the tiger 800 again. I mean provide more of long term perspective. Most of the videos on tiger 800 are initial impression. Need long term review. Thanks.
What like this you mean? ruclips.net/video/fFB9vrV1YqM/видео.html
Aloha TMF - how does the Triumph TFT screen compare to the BMW 850 GS screen? Mahalo from Hawaii.
Not great - the Triumph one is a bit toy like in comparison and much smaller - the BMW one on the other hand is one of the best I’ve seen....
TheMissendenFlyer thank you for the reply!
I didn’t notice any heat from the engine - but then I’m used to riding an Italian bike (the Panigale) and that’s a hot one! :0)
Why oh why don't they put a rear hugger / fender on the top of the line ROAD version of the bike? Sigh...
Kawasaki also did the same (or didn't do, I should say) with Versys 650. It gets awfully dirty all over the underside, mud and dirt on the shock, engine and subframe... it's a pain in the butt to clean! And keeping it clean is pretty much impossible unless you ride on floor tiles. lol
Someone on the Versys forum directed me towards a cheap (read: affordable) Chinese rear hugger for about £40 and I will definitely put in an order for one.
Love too!
Sounds good to me - congrats on the bike and send your Missus over whenever you like ;0)
TheMissendenFlyer - yes that’ll be two bikes in the “collection” (MT09 SP).
Given the recent Thailand tour and your success with the Tiger, would you still take the BMW F750GS over the Tiger 800?
No...and now the 900 is on the scene even more so!
It still has welded on passenger footpeg hangers, thought they would have fixed that.
That would work!
Nice review TMF ,it may be a great bike but it's fugly and I agree the front looks unfinished. Is it really any better than a tracer or a multi 950 ?
Defo better than a Multi 950 IMO, not sure about the Tracer...obv this has some off-road capability the Tracer doesn't...
Currently I’d go for a GSA - great all round bike (assuming money no object)....
Hmm, interesting - I didn't suffer from those probs when I toured Thailand on a Tiger 800 - have you tried the new 900, better still!
Looks just like my former bike- a Kawasaki Versys 650. I guess they all do though. Ride safe!
Good idea, get it done.....
please review 1200 XRt as well - Thank you!
Have you seen my set of videos reviewing the 2018 Tiger 1200?
Yes Sir that was for 1200 XCA - I like to know the differences between XCA and XRT 1200. it would be great if you have a chance to review it too. I'm considering 1200 GS or 1200 Triumph but not the adventure ones. (gonna go 75/25 on-road/off-road) and want to know which one should I go with? Thank you so much - YOU ARE AWESOME!
Thanks great review again
