Totally agree…one of the worst screens ever…since this is a new release, why not use the same display style etc that are in the 900 and 1200, etc….also looks massively cheap and not Triumph like.

How would the bike be at all better with a TFT display? The entire bike world has been brainwashed into thinking that a smartphone screen is somehow better than anything else. Fuck it, tell me when someone sells a bike with a beautiful analog tachometer styled after a mid 2000's Aston Martin. That would be some good shit, not a goddamn $50 display.

It took them 4 years to progress from the 660 so I won't hold my breath. They could adapt the old 1050 or reconfigure the 1200 so there are options but I imagine they'd want to maximise sales of this version before they consider something bigger.
In the meantime, for £1k extra one could opt for the popular, new ninja 1100 for fast two up touring. 🤔

    • @timrodierides

I asked - they said there's no way the 1200 lump will fit in this frame. But never say never, I reckon. If Yamaha can pull their finger out and make an MT-10 powered Tracer 10, we could have a cracking selection of touring bikes…

They could just give us a 1160 triple retuned with ridiculous torque.....and not charge an arm and leg for it. Wouldn't need to be 160 horsepower, it could be 130 horsepower with a heap more low end grunt.
Remember the 1200 and 1250cc big four pot Japanese bikes that used to exist, and were affordable?
Now it's getting to be like automobiles: Oh you want the bigger more powerful engine? Here's 10 grand worth of upscale trim crap you need to buy to get that.

@@exothermal.sprocketup until 10 years ago some bikes didn't even have a fuel guage yet now they have to have the full works. And prices have rocketed at the same time.
The question is are we any happier with all this excess or are we being gaslit and being told that more is better.
      Ask yourself, better for who?
I love Triumph products, love the triple engine and usually their styling but is a £10 grand hornet really £8 grand worse if a bike. And it still has a lot of frivolous tech we are being convinced that we need.
Much as I love the new RS, I look at the price and remember the demise of the RR which badly misjudged the market.

A most enjoyable review lad! My Missus and I have been going on extended trips around Europe and further afield for many years now, currently on a BMW1250 GSA on all sorts of roads and the occasional goat track. Last Autumn I ended up rolling off the ferry in Bilbao on my own as Herself had to opt out at the last minute due to work commitments. This was a first for me and on a number of occasions as I rode through the Picos and down the country roads to Ronda and back to Le Harve for the ferry home i thought what kind of bike would be more fun on such solo trips? I think this could be the one. I'll be keeping my Boghopper and may go for the 1300 GSA for our trips away together but just watching this review had my heart beating a little faster thinking what fun this 800 would be on those fantastic Portuguese and Spanish mountain roads. A full after market exhaust is all it wants for I think. Everything else is fine.

Great review, looks to be the bike I will be replacing my 07 Tiger 1050 with. Gotta disagree with you on the comment about the front wheel being unfashionable in being a 17". Its just what so many of us have been waiting for from Triumph. A good upright sport tourer for the road. They haven't had one since the demise of the 1050 sport. Yes I know there's the 660 sport but lets face it, it is a bit short on power. 110-120 hp is perfect for this sort of bike.

According to Peter Stevens Triumph Adelaide the cost is just over $21,000 as I've just paid for mine and awaiting delivery. Wanted the 660 Tiger Sport (which I'd paid for) but was told only 2 are being brought into Australia at 81 horse power (lime green), the rest are to be LAM's (direct from Triumph Australia's directors mouth). If you want the 660 Tiger Sport de-regulated, you will loose your 2 year warranty.

@@ashleyralston9142Triumph stuffed this up. We (NZ and Australia) needed the 80bhp 660 when there was no alternative. Now, everyone will just buy the 800, so we don't need the 80bhp 660...

      @ashleyralston9142 9 дней назад

@ I was with Mark (sale man Peter Stevens Adelaide) when we both had an argument with the CEO Triumph Australia over the phone. We both got nowhere. It's Triumph Australia's decision all 660 Tiger Sports coming into Australia will be learner LAM's, Trident's and Daytona 660 will come as both 50/50. Only the Tiger Sport 660 is to be restricted to LAMs (all but the 1st 2). I've been riding since 1975 and hold my advanced drivers licence (motorcycle) and instructors licence. So why do I need a LAM's machine, warranty YES. So I agree I was forced to the 800 Tiger Sport but after watching this video I may have made a good decision.

@@RacingAnt That's what I went for in the end. Plus the top box and panniers. I've also asked for radiator cover (Triumph don't have it yet) plus front crash bars like those on the Triumph 900. Again neither are available YET. As I live out in the South Australian bush the radiator cover for the dirt roads is a must. Plenty of tarmac roads but a lot of dirt ones to that I have to put up with. Comes with the territory. With trade in I'll be in the plus that's for sure.

Interesting he experienced the same glitch on the new 800. Other than that, over 20k trouble free miles on mine. Excellent little commuter. If this one retains the nimble, lightweight easy to live with manners of the 660, should be a winner.

    Very good review!
I have a deposit down on this bike that should be arriving in march but the jury has been out until now. I own the tiger sport 660 RS. I add the RS because I’ve done a lot to improve its performance, which I won’t go into here, and make it the bike it should have been from the factory. I love my 660 but have been telling triumph for the past two years that they needed a bigger motor in the same touring package as the 660 and they seem to have answered the call. I still have to ride the new bike before I finalize the deal but from what I see here I think I’m sold.
I have no problem with the display on the 660 and actually like the simplicity. I also think the triumph branded four piston front breaks will be more than adequate given the two piston on the 660 with upgraded EBC double sintered pads are more than enough breaking power. I would upgrade the new bike with EBC’s as well. it does make a difference. I’ll have to ride the new bike to determine if the stock suspension is up to snuff because I did go to Nitron on my 660 and it made a huge difference. Hopefully the new bike’s suspension has been beefed up and can be dialed in to fit my weight and a passenger.
How was first gear, was it usable? I went to a 17 tooth front sprocket on the 660 because first gear was just unusable.
hopefully they corrected the gearing on the new bike to make first longer before having to shift into second. this is the one thing you left out of your review. I would have liked to see the suspension set up to your weight and reviewed as well.
    thanks 👍

I have owned a Street Triple RS for 2 years and it looks like a tuned down version of that bike, with lower seating, better 2 up function, easier luggage upgrades, and more stout wind screen . All things that would make for a more rounded Street Triple with just a bit of sacrifice for handling, braking, and power. I think it's a nice fit to the lineup.

I beg to differ on the display, it’s got the in-between display from street tripple rs and it’s horrible in my experience both to read from and navigate menus. As for brakes, eh, as long as it feels good and got good power - Brembo branding alone doesn’t guarantee that.

Yea, that display.... I said it about the 660 Sport too. It really is a big negative for me, and given it is something you use a lot, it must be better. But also, that front brake reservoir. It's just cost saving, nothing more or less. Which is really disappointing, because I love everything else about this bike. I will test ride it. I've had an MT09 SP for 2 years now and I think I'd like to start doing some touring.

Hi Tim, thanks for your video. I am agree with that you are saying. People buying SUVs, but all you need is sport-tourer or tourer. If you never leave paved roads, 17' just make more sense and provide better fun on the road. I have both, Tiger 660 and Tracer 9. Both fantastic bikes, 800 looks interesting upgrade for Tiger, but it makes it close to Tracer 9. But Tracer 9 is bigger, can handle two riders, has better dash (2025), better front light and overall seems like more capable bike. But I guess Triumph design is better looking.

Great review - it looks like you enjoyed yourself! After buying a new Tracer 9GT in 2022 and covering 9.5k miles before I got rid of it last summer I thought the only thing good about the Tracer was the engine. Unfortunately I believed the hype. IMHO the bike wasn't that good and the build quality and finish were extremely poor. It's a pity this bike wasn't around when I sold the Yamaha. Before the Tracer I had a 765 Street Triple so I know this would be a good bike - the Triumph triple is better than Yamaha's and the quality of the bike will be far better.

Aren’t we odd, Tim not keen on the two tone colour of the engine whereas it’s a selling point for me as it reminds me of my 2008 Blade that I use to ride . The build quality and design shares many likeness to the Hondas I’ve owned, I’d swear if you stuck a Honda badge on the 800 it would fool some people 😂

The new Tracer 9 GT is £14350, so £3350 more than this. Looks like there are deals on the old T9 GT at £11216, but one of the journos on this event has one and said the Tiger can hustle harder without getting squirrelly

I love my Tiger 660 for many things, and have the XSR 900 for pleasure rides. I was looking at the tracer 900 to replace the 660. Yamaha CP3 motor is great but the Tracer is just so ugly that I can't do it.
Seeing that this 800 is the 660 with more power, there won't be any hesitation when it's released.
I think because of the smaller motor many didn't even think of giving the 660 a try and that's unfortunate, this 800 is gonna be on a lot of top 10 lists in December.

Here’s a question Tim, currently own a Tiger 900 RP, used to own a ST765RS which I loved so I’m wondering seeing as I never go off-road and all my stuff is on the roads, days out and the odd long weekend touring. Do you think the Tiger 800 Sport would be the better bike over a 2024 Tiger 900 RP for someone who just does roads and the odd tour?

great review, beautiful bike. The triple howl is just different and sounds awesome.
Had me interested as a replacement for my current Trident. I want to upgrade to something a tad bigger, more touring oriented.
Was eyeing this or the 900 GT pro.. will have to sit properly on them, but for a pillion the 900 seems a lil more comfortable. Though this is more stylish.. methinks.. Oh spring, just come quicker!!

A 1050 version would do it for me ! I don't need a 1200. The old 1050 Speed Triple was plenty fast for me. ( really too fast )
This bike has me really interested. I'd been looking at the Tracer 9 for a few years, but not yet pulled the Trigger. I did finally get a test ride of one mid last year. But they only gave me 30 mins ! So I didn't have enough time to really form an conclusive opinion.
I certainly don't want the T planed crank, 19 inch front wheeled Tiger 900 . I'd rather have a Tracer than that.
T plane cranks are stupid to me. I've had a couple of 120 degree triples . They were nice. On a test ride, the T plane crank just made me think "This bike is misfiring" . A stupid stupid stupid idea.
But this could be my next bike. It's probably between this and a Tracer. Triumph just might have stopped me from swapping brands over to Yamaha !
I'll be getting a test ride ASAP !

How does it compare with the MT you owned in terms of engine feel and revs at highway speeds? I have a couple of triumphs and really want to like this one, but even the screen on the Tiger 850 sport (which I don't particularly care for) is better than what they have on the new Tiger 800 sport. You are spot on in getting users to accept the concept that an 800 sport is probably more realistic in terms of what riders need. I have and love the Tiger 850 sport, but I find myself doing 95% of my riding on road where at speeds of 85mph plus (toll speeds) the 888 triple gets a tad buzzy.
