YAY! I’m so glad you enjoyed this. Not sure why it’s getting bashed so hard by everyone! It looks really good and I think I’ll have to check it out! Excellent review! :)
I think it just sucks we got baited cause the original trailer had Leona as a playable character and it was way more open world and fluent :( still a good game but idk why they cut so much from the game, feels like a mobile game in my opinion as it is now hopefully they add more content tho

Thank you for your thoughts and this review David. Finally one of the few people that actually appreciate this game and what it did. I'm not sure why so many people thought this game would be a full blown ARPG to the scale of the main line titles or some people who actually thought this would be open world. 0_0 This a full blown anime based title that was pretty fun to play. 😊
Have you played it? I've played every single DQ game aside from X. This game is nothing like ANY of them. It's 90% watch stills of the anime 10% of combat that amounts to a smart phone game. It is TERRIBLE.
@@makokx7063 Yes I have. You aren't saying anything new to me. I already knew before the game came out that this game would not be at all like the main DQ games. That wasn't a surprise on my end that's for sure. Well you either love it or hate it.
My reason for disliking the game has nothing to do with its gameplay. The adventures of dai has been my favorite series for decades. All i wanted was to explore the world. I wanted the adventures of dai; not the railroaded still frame with voiceover cutscenes of dai.
The reviews for this game are all over the place, showing that a lot of people don't get the game's premise, thank you for making it so unmistakingly clear in your video that this is first and foremost an Anime game - a game of the Anime. This might be a new genre even, with Digimon Survive and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim technically doing the same thing - having animated and visual novel style parts as the main course while they pepper sophisticated, deep combat sequences in between. We need something like this for the old Sonic animated series, too, imho. Where you have animated parts as the main course and missions or boss battles are in a 3D game to spice the action parts of the story up even more.

The first review I saw of this game was from another relatively popular RUclips channel and they kinda trashed it and gave it like a 4/10. While I don't usually care about review scores, I was kinda nervous if it was going to be enjoyable. After seeing David's review, I was more calm. If a game is trash, he will tell you, even if it is DQ/FF or something he loves. I am happy to report that after finally firing it up on SteamDeck, it is exactly as David said. I am having a great time with it. You can always trust his reviews. If you are a fan of classic anime from the 80s/early 90s (think classic Dragonball, not Z), this game grabs you from the first second!
Wish the game has more than 4 characters, and didn't ends at 41 episode , my only complaints . I will get this whenever it's on sale. Doesn't look like a bad game.
I hope you have watched the animé or read the manga, because Pop has some much more going for him... He's the best character, with the most growth. Even the top 4 villains acknowledge him and have good words about him...
I'm glad you are enjoying it! The Switch version apparently runs quite poorly, which is where a lot of those 5-6/10 reviews are coming from, but it seems much better on higher grade hardware.
as a fan of the adventures of dai manga, this seems like a good adap, definetively going to get it, but i would love even more if a tradicional rpg was made from the adventures, it would have the potencial of be a 10/10 rpg, since the story is huuuuge and SO GOOD; hopefully others adaptations come out for the game.
Nah this should be a action rpg considering the show and manga is full of so much of it they just fumbled the bag it’s should’ve been on the level of a Tales of game
Adventure of Dai is easily one of the best manga I've read. I've always thought it didn't get the love it deserved. Seeing it finally get some love makes me very happy.
Definitely want to say thanks for recommending this title and currently have been working on it. Chapter 3 recently and trying to work on powering up skills and bond memories
I heard the reviews for the game weren't quite hot, but here it is, a good review coming from a big DQ fan such as David and I can't wait to play this game. I also agree on Popp the mage being best boy, if you know, you know. 😁😁😁
Thank you for your review :) I think Metacritic review were really too harsh. However, I think buying this title it at full price is a bit too much. I am going to wait some time.
THIS is the review I was waiting for! I don't know why so many outlets are hammering on this game, the way it's been getting raked over hot coals, I thought it wax buggy of broken or something? But I know when it comes to DQ, yours is definitely the first name I think of! And I'm really glad you liked it so much, I'm looking forward to it, too! I'd crawl over broken glass to make excuses for Dragon Quest and this game is just that bad.
The only problem I have with this game, the $60 price tag. Other then that this looks like a good game. I know many reviewers just bash on this, because it's "Not RPG enough." Take it for what it is, but I'm still gonna pick this game up whenever I get the chance to or it has a sale drop eventually. And Popp is the best character in the anime in my opinion.
I can’t believe how good this review is compared to “big gaming media outlets”. They’re dumping on it and you can tell from reading their reviews that it’s like they played for a few hours and wrote out a review for the boss. Keep the honest and real reviews coming David, they are appreciated. 👍
I'm personally enjoying it. The only thing that is visible is the game's budget. They reuse a lot of still images from the anime. Would have wished for more 3D cutscenes. David, I know you've said you don't do animes, but give DQ Dai a chance. It's a great story of growth and change. I love a series where even villains have redemption arcs. Glad Square is still sponsoring your content 👌
I dont care much for metacritic but... when a game is 60% on metacritic even I will not pick it up at launch- will be a deep sale for me. And also, DQ11 is in my top 5 of all time, im not a "DQ hater" the opposite in fact.
The only negative i have in regards to the game is that it covers only half of the story so if this sells well were probably getting a sequel which i will definitely buy 😊

I can't really remember it too well but as far as I know this is based on anime that was based on the Dragon Quest games originally released in the 80's that was recent anime remake.
Gameplay-wise, I don't see how this game offers something different than Dragon Quest Heroes 2. It actually seems to offer less. Also, I never saw this Dragon Quest anime. I saw the one beforehand, which was loosely based on Dragon Quest 3 and had Baramos as the main villain.
I loved the anime and manga for this series, so I was already sold once this game was announced. It feels like you are the only one to give the game a chance and you enjoyed it. Your gameplay also convinced me more the the trailers or the other reviews did to pick it up. My biggest concern was the combat, but it looks more engaging in this review. Also the names in this show are so bizarre. I think they are all supposed to be puns in some way like Mamm and Popp are supposed to be pronounced as Mom and Pop 😂🤦🏾♂️.

As a long time fan of both dragon quest and the adventures of dai i really wanted to love this game. The gameplay is fine; my only gripe there is the lag time between ending attack animations and dodging means that if an enemy doesnt take hitstun you are actively punished for trying to get a full 3 hit combo on them since you cant dodge away from their follow up attacks fast enough. The reason i dont like this game is the world and the cutscenes. The adventures of dai has been my favorite manga for decades and i was really excited to explore the world myself and see its iconic locations. David100K! Glad you enjoyed it, but man they really should have made a US physical release. I'm enjoying the Dragon Quest Monsters demo a LOT though and hope you give a demo review. Heck I REALLY hope you get a free physical copy from Square.
HUGE DISAPPOINTEMENT!!! Got it 2 days ago, Japan time, already beat it. I’ve been a Dragon Quest fan since the Super Nintendo days. I've played everyone except the online game and absolutely love Monsters and the PS4 games like Heroes and Builders. I have never been disappointed with a dragon quest game so when I saw this I was super excited and preordered. It is essentially watching the anime with the occasional mini-game. It's a crime to even call this a game. 90% anime still clips 10% game play that was made for a toddler. Anyone thinking of getting this game I highly recommend saving your money and just watching the anime or reading the manga.
They messed up the story rebooting what happened in the anime. Sorry that’s a deal breaker they could’ve focused on the story as it was and I would’ve bought this game but thanks to this review it’s a big no no they messed up.
I’m so sad it’s not the full story. 30 years ago when the anime was out they stopped at approximately the same moment of the story. I want to play but I’ll wait to know if the rest of the story ever show up. Love from Belgium 🇧🇪 ❤
You can always tell which media outlets played a few hours of the game and wrote their reviews, and reviewers that ACTUALLY played the game and wrote their review. THANK YOU DAVID.
Can you get this as a physical copy anywhere. DQ is also one of my fave series since I was a kid but GameStop did not have it in their system to preorder a few weeks back. I’ll have to check play Asia more than likely if it wasn’t released physically here I. The west

Reminds me of the fairy tail game albeit not being turn based. I'll try it later. Nice review
I just want to say how thankful i am to you david❤️ thank you so much for making this video
You said everything i thought about 💕
You are so welcome
Should have my physical copy from play Asia delivered today!
They messed up the story rebooting what happened in the anime. Sorry that’s a deal breaker they could’ve focused on the story as it was and I would’ve bought this game but thanks to this review it’s a big no no they messed up.
Yooo where did you get that shirt!!!??
Great review. About how many hours do youthunkbit takes to finish the game?
It’s not very long. It took me about 15ish hours, but there’s still a ton of stuff I can do in the temple of recollection
I’m so sad it’s not the full story. 30 years ago when the anime was out they stopped at approximately the same moment of the story. I want to play but I’ll wait to know if the rest of the story ever show up. Love from Belgium 🇧🇪 ❤
❤your shirt 😁
Thank you hottie!
Would you say the combat is similar to the Tales franchise?
More in line with mana I would say
Great game! Great video David!
The story is great. Almost made me cry couple times
I can't wait for you do do a review for like a dragon infinite wealth
alright sweet. I thought this looked cool and love DQ. I wanted to try it but then saw Noisy Pixel's review absolutely trashing it so I was hesitant.
I gonna buy this game. Im saving up for a ps5 and wanna finish sea of stars 1st.
Been having alot of fun with this one
Seems the reviews for Dai is people either love it or hate it lol
You can always tell which media outlets played a few hours of the game and wrote their reviews, and reviewers that ACTUALLY played the game and wrote their review. THANK YOU DAVID.
I played to the end, it's terrible. The only good thing are the cutscenes that are cool as hell. Everything else? Infinity trash.
I live in Japan and got it Thursday and beat it. I am one of the biggest DQ fans you will ever meet and this game is beyond garbage.
Bro this video is sponsored.
Can you get this as a physical copy anywhere. DQ is also one of my fave series since I was a kid but GameStop did not have it in their system to preorder a few weeks back. I’ll have to check play Asia more than likely if it wasn’t released physically here I. The west
It is on playasia :)
Not a fan of the actual combat, but the rest is enjoyable for the most part. 6 out of 10 for me so far
What the hell?! Are you related to Alex Enkiri from Enkiri Fitness? Big resemblance even in the way you speak and make gestures 😂
I don’t know her
Its dragon quest and seems like the heroes games so i was gonnma buy it anyways but thanks for the review 😊
If i had a PC i would get it because i love the anime
The Noisy Pixel review had me a bit cautious... so was he just blowing some stuff out of proportion?
You think the 2020 anime was made in anticipation for this game?
Iv just stated dragon quest heroes 2 so that's my focus for awhile
Guess Pop is gonna get a spot in the next "Top 10 sexiest characters of RPGs"
There’s a space waiting for him!
Looks like you are one of the only person who actually enjoyed this game.
if you liked popp before you’ll
like him more as games come out 😎
Square really been delivering on the rpgs lately
oh look who it is, Cereza & the Lost Demon hater 😡…… 😂😂 sorry, couldn’t resist
i was thinking about when you’re gonna give us a review. i know it’s an action game but I know you played & loved the Dragon Quest Warriors game(s) i’m a musou/warriors genre fan, a big one so it’s very interesting for me to see “almost exclusive jrpgs guys” get into these games, cuz I want them to sell good so we get more of them 😅
jesus I typed a wall….lets get on with the video
thanks for uploading 😊❤
People hating on this game for no reason.
You know your my idol now keep being fantastic
