since the very first video i watched of her performing live (red wine supernova) i've thought to myself that her breath control reminds me of a lot of kpop stars who sing well while doing intense choreo, and practicing on the treadmill is something that a lot of them do as well, so that wouldn't surprise me at all and kudos to her for that

I don't know if you've given the original Red Wine Supernova a listen, but the part where she says "Red Wine Supernova" in the final chorus is actually lower than the studio recording, and it's one of my favourite changes in a live version I don't know the music terms behind it, but MAN do I like how it sounds

For all "Midwest Princess"'s ample bounce, fake eyelashes and glitter, there is still no filler. I’m not a singer but I am a trained musician and composer and it’s been so fascinating to hear the response from vocalists on Chappell’s technique. My guess is that she is an excellent mimic and has an insane ear….because she taught herself to sing by emulating her fave singers growing up and you can still hear them in her sound. When she covers Cranberries she sounds like Dolores, same when she covers Fleetwood Mac- sounds just like Stevie. She’s a huge Kate Bush fan and you can really hear that Wuthering Heights sound on her new single Good Luck Babe (highly recommend the live performance on Fallon. Would really love an analysis on that because while the performance is excellent, you can tell she loses her breath and I’m wondering if it’s because of the corset they have her cinched up in). Anyways, it’s always validating to hear from the vocal nerds when they like a new fave of mine. Glad you did the whole set. ❤
I became a fan of hers the first time I watched her video for Red Wine Supernova a month or so ago. I fell in love with her when she sang in "Picture You" the end of the first chorus in this Tiny Desk performance. (Her recorded version sounds nearly equal in quality and almost gives me chills every time.) You gave me the perfect reason for it: she sings it so effortlessly. "...or are you afraid of all of the things I do: when I picture you." Her voice just disappears so elegantly as it trails off, like she is ashamed. So good.

Not sure if you'll see this comment, but if you do, I wanted to ask if you've ever worked with any disabled singers and what tips you might give them? For context, I have spinal muscular atrophy (SMA type 2), a disability that leads to progressive muscle weakness/loss over time, and which affects all of the muscles in my body including vocal cords. SMA can also lead to a speech disorder called Dysarthria which impairs your speech leading to difficulty with articulation and reduced vocal volume. This, plus having lockjaw which also reduces vocal volume, and respiratory issues which leads to difficulty with breath control makes singing a challenge. I haven't really sang in public (aside from a couple of TikTok duets for fun) since high school, but I do miss it sometimes. I mostly sing alone in my room (when I have the strength/energy for it) cause with the muscle weakness it's gotten harder to even just speak regularly, let alone sing. You probably haven't had many (or any) singers with a disability like mine, but are there any tips you can think of that might help with volume increase, breath control, and/or enunciations when singing?
If you like Chapell, I think you'll like Rina Sawayama! She did a tiny desk concert a couple of years ago. Also, have you seen Hazbin Hotel? If not, please react to it! It's a theater kids dream!

It's a great exercise for resistance and air control!!
It's actually an old singing lesson thing, not necessarily treadmill but just running while singing. It builds stamina and practices breath control.
