I have a different GermGuardian model, but it does use the same LB4000 bulb as you show. Thank you for the demonstration. The double whammy of a HEPA filter and a UV-C bulb are so important in this new pandemic era!
Thanks for this video! I was trying to remove the top since it had two screws but it would not raise. Your video stopped me from using a knife or screwdriver and buggering up the top unit. Good job recognizing help was needed for guys like me.
For anybody who is dealing with a stuck metal shield, I wedged a knife under the bottom of mine and the seal was broken and it popped right out! It worked like a charm for me and I hope it does for you too :)
Thank you very much for posting this video! my Husband & i struggled for an hour trying to change the bulb in my GG air cleaner! YOU saved the day & our marriage!
Thank you! One thing to add, if you're replacing both parts like I did (bulb and filter) you gotta hold the reset button twice, for each replacement part to reset
Thank you so much for this! I had to use a knife and a flathead screwdriver to pry the metal plate off from two angles. Since I have never replaced the bulb in all the years I’ve owned my purifier, the plate was stuck on there pretty good… 😬 So it was helpful to know that I was in the right place! Thanks!
Thanks - helpful video. I agree about wearing gloves, if the globe goes in clean it UV gets to where it sterilizes and it doesn't bounce back in where it reduces the life of the bulb. The screen on my bulb was stuck too - pressure and heat meant the paint had glued it in. Some gentle prying with a small flat head screw driver did the trick to break the bond; initially on the left side away from the safety tab (to the left of the screw) and then worked my way to the safety tab on the right. Two 'cracks' as the paint bond broke and it slid right out. When putting the screen back in, you must insert the safety tab in the hole first to engage the switch, then swing the screen in, otherwise it won't work. Power it up and hold the UV switch down for 5 seconds to reset the flashing and all worked for me. Good luck everyone and thanks Worthydaydream for the helpful video!
Thank you for this tutorial....I sincerely appreciate the simplicity and clean direction of your explanation. Being able to change the bulb on my own, especially with the current Covid-19 pandemic, makes me feel genuinely grateful. Stay safe. 🙏🐸🌈😇🗽🇺🇸🗽😇🌈🐸🙏
Thanks so much buddy! I was about to buy a new one because I thought the light was broken (I didn't realize it was a regular bulb like this, for some reason I thought it was like a non-replaceable LED). Gonna go buy a bulb now, you saved me a good chunk of change!
Thank you. And for newer models, you have to press and hold the UV/RESET button. This air purifier now doubled its value thanks to this virus outbreak.
thank you . now i know ........ may i recommend to all reading this . NEVER touch the glass part of any bulb . use a tissue or gloves BECAUSE oils from your fingers/hands get on the bulb and it kills the life of the bulb ..... this goes for any and every type of light bulb ..... i majored in bulbology .... hehe just kidding. i learned this back in the day when i spent money constantly replacing hydroponics halide/ HPS bulbs from this mistake . also , i was reading comments on amazon for this machine (after i bought it of course ) and there were many comments saying this machine was either smoking or it caught on fire ..... i think this is due to having really dirty nasty filters that restricts air flow. what happens when the fan runs and it gets no air ? it's gonna smoke and burn up so make sure you can feel it blowing good out the front because that means the air is flowing . vacum the filters once a week if you have pets shedding . great video man , thanks
I never had an issue with the bulb burning out. But I agree, I probably should have wore gloves since that's what the manual said... honestly, I didn't expect 30,000 views.
My hatch was stuck in it wasn't coming out After I remove the screws and I thought I was doing something wrong thanks to your video I got to change the bulb by just applying a little bit more pressure Edit. The new bulbs I purchased, match the manufacturer requirements but neither newer bulb worked, even after holding down the reset button, many many times. Oh well. The unit collects dust very efficiently and thats what I purchased it for.
Good video. From examining my germ guardian ac4825 it seems like very little if any air is being forced through the UV light chamber and if any air is passing through where the UV light is, , it isn't filtered through the HEPA either.
The bulb is held in by two plastic clips. If you look at the new bulb you can see the little wing edge that hold the bulb in the clips. Us a long flat narrow flat head screw driver to release the bulb. I also cannot get it to come one after installing a new bulb. A post in another forum said that the bulbs are probably good but the socket is bad. No word on how to replace the socket.
Another tip for removing the bulb: I use a rubber grip- the kind used to open jars. Then, since I have short fingers I use two pencils(eraser side down) at the plastic base, to push it back in
I'd add that there will probably be dust/etc. around the edge of where the filter fits. Use a small brush to clean that. I suggest you do it over some newspaper. Also look for the small spring loaded metal piece at the top of the cavity where the filter fits. This is a "lock out" of sorts. Use a small brush to clean it out too. If this gets too dirt or gummed up, you may have problems getting the product to work.
Low fan speed is required to give the uv c the chance to do its job rather the just blasting air past the uv c chamber at a rate so fast that the bulb is useless. It takes 1/3 of a second for UV c to START affecting airborne pathogens.. and 1 - 1.5 second to completely kill the weaker of the known airborne species. So most units have to be set to fan speed 1 and some times sadly even that is too fast for the uv c component to be effective.. thx for the vid..
Yikes, really? So the UV bulb only really works if you have the fan on the lowest setting? Also, do you know if the blue light we see is the actual UV light? Mine is flashing, indicating it needs replacing, but it looks just as bright as always.
@@deprofundis3293 the UVC light SHOULD NOT BE VISIBLE FROM outside the unit.. the light you are seeing is a led notification light to tell you the internal uv is on, at least that's how mine function. I have a couple of the germguardia 28" ac5300. Vertical square tower shaped. They have a blue ring on the front that lights up when uv c is on and goes white when uvc off.

I'm honestly not sure. I don't work for them or anything... Maybe there are different models. You definitely removed the screws first? Maybe a little well-placed-WD40 and jiggle the thing loose?
There was paint on the back of my cover and I ended up prying it off with a flathead screwdriver. Once I pried it loose I was able to continue. Good luck!!
I'm having the same problem which is why I came to the video in the first place. My metal shield won't budge! This is the first time I've tried replacing the bulb.
I'm having the same problem. I've unplugged the power and can get my fingers way behind the shield to tug on it, but I'm willing to tug only so hard. And I don't see anywhere to wedge a screw driver. Is there a release that I need to depress?
Never mind. Because I could get my finger tips around the back, I could be apply much force. I was persistent and eventually I did pull it free. The paint near the screws probably was the problem for me. Unfortunately the indicator light and trim light are not working, and I suspect the uv light also isn't working.
I'm not affiliated with this webpage in any way, but I bought mine here which is only $23 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055521W0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
my filter is two pieces, one which is like a plastic outside guard, you can definitely wash that in soapy water which will prolong the paper box filter underneath. Paper filters are impossible to clean though, air compressor will rip it. Water will rip it. I just buy a new one, once-per-year-or-so, it's about the same price as an air filter for a home HVAC system, if that's any consolation.
When you're looking for replacement bulbs, make sure it says that it's a UV bulb! There are some sellers out there that sell a bulb that fits, but they aren't UV-C bulbs. They're cheaper, but don't do the job.
I bought two replacement bulbs from Amazon. I just replaced one bulb. No light. Took that one out and replaced with the other new bulb. Same thing. No light. The unit works but no UV. The replacement bulbs look just like the original but I didn't purchase from GermGuardian. Could that be it?
One suggestion, is that your left hand and your head are blocking the view when you take out the bulb and put it back in. I would’ve liked to been able to see more details about the angle at which that bulb was installed.
