The CPU is quite on par with the NES one.
The 6502 basically works like "DDR" memory, operating twice per clock cycle and it's instructions take less cycles than the DMG ones, however as the DMG is clocked a bit higher than 2x, it kinda compensates for it.
@@BunnyBlasterz lol 😂
Thank you for returning WrestlingWithGaming! understandable, its not like every week/month you can do videos. But im just happy that you still have interest on making documentaries like this. my day is complete just by seeing this!!
long time subscriber since your Atari Jaguar documentary
Thank you!
I always think of the batman vs the pumpking man. lol
Finally! So glad you're back
Glad to be back 😊
@@WrestlingWithGaming big fan of your channel
Agree.
I second that. Welcome back!!!!!!!!!
Yahel! It's been a while! When I saw you pop up in my newsfeed, I was very much so pleasantly surprised!
Wow, I don't remember the production values being so high nor the information so obscure. I'm a Nintendo fanatic and never heard this story, it was enthralling. Excellent job.
Very glad to see this channel active again. Just a couple of weeks ago I was looking at my subscriptions to thin them out, saw this one, and decided to still keep it on my list, just in case. The decision is already paying off. Looking forward to watching this video ASAP.
Thanks for keeping me. The plan is to post regularly again
So the Game Boy basically came about from Yokoi saying "Fuck Yamauchi, we're doing this anyway." What a mad lad.
And the best part is that it wasn't even the device HE wanted to make, but he knew his team had cooked up something good and wasn't going to let it die. Yokoi was incredible.
And from Okada saying "Fuck Yokoi, we're doing an actual console anyway". Yeah, this thing really had all the odds against it and still came to be, and succeeded!
@@WrestlingWithGaming Yes, both Yamauchi and Yokoi had the smartness of not letting their ego get in the way, and accept that even if they didn't get their way, this was a good product worth their time. This is what good leadership is about.
"I know I haven't posted a video in a loooong while..."
Yes, but it was TOTALLY worth the wait.
You've still got the magic sir. You've still got the magic.
It's good to be back and thank you for the kind words 🥲
@@WrestlingWithGaming Quick question. Do you do the 3D animations yourself and if so, what software are you using?
@@PHSPictures Yep, do it all myself. In my previous video i used Cinema 4D but I've moved to Blender, which is what I used for this one. It's free.
The quality of the visuals is just outstanding!
Hey, long time no see! Thanks!
Hype!
No one:
Absolutely no one:
Bandai: "You know what the Game Boy needs? That's right! A _fish finder!"_
😆
The editing and special effects are truly amazing. I'm proud to have been able to watch your channel grow and improve in front of my eyes. Fantastic video as always.
Thank you so much! The editing has come a long way since my early days of basically making slide show videos lol. Thanks for watching!
Could not agree more! The production value is top tier! Well done!! ❤
The top subject WITHOUT A DOUBT who conspired against the GameBoy with Yamauchi was Shigeru F. Miyamoto, since he was the one who continued fighting against it even after release, one of those instances was by "not blessing" the first Mario Land. Miyamoto has and will always be jealous of Yokoi's and other people's capabilities, and it's been shown through the decades every time he cancels games and stuff that is not Mario or Zelda.
WHAAA our beloved miyamoto!??
where did you get this info from? it wouldnt be the first time that misinformation about miyamoto is spread (like the whole "hating rare" thing)
@@nappeywappey Just check any other Gameboy history documentaries, check history of cancelled Nintendo games by division and by whom, check which teams and people have brought the most innovative and original series within Nintendo and despite such creativity and even success these games have been sent back to the drawer while the Mario and Zelda have always been pushed first and foremost even when some of them have sucked balls. Don't trust what I say, do your own research and you will understand.
@@Dangnilo I know Mario has some stinkers but Zelda has been very consistent in quality gameplay and story.
@@Herghhh I don't deny that, Zelda is great, it's even its own genre, but not thanks to Miyamoto, it's thanks to other talented teams and he receives the credit. He's overglorified.
You're back!! Excited to watch this and hope all is well for you - welcome back!
The Citizen-GameGear-betrayal story sounds so incredible weird, I heard it the first time and thought "Yup, that's something Nintendo could have done". Maybe I should keep on honing my French skills and buy "L'Histoire de Nintendo".
Anyway, I'm glad you're back! 🎉
I was lucky enough to have a Gameboy Pocket back in the day. The screen was super nice, as the image was sharper and the screen size was actually a bit larger than the original Gameboy screen.
I recently checked your channel to make sure I was still subbed because I randomly remembered that I haven't seen any new content from you in a while, and now you finally drop a new video. Divine timing! Welcome back.
Glad you didn't unsub! Sorry for the lack of content but the plan is to start posting regularly again.
@@WrestlingWithGaming no I was just worried that RUclips unsubbed me by itself. Apparently that has happened to some people on other channels. I'll never unsub!
@jonbourgoin182 very true. It's happened to me on a few channels
Yes. Just.... Yes.
33:18
Had atleast two third party magnifying glasses with lamps for my old GBC. Always felt like they just got in the way, made the picture worse, and just created even more screen glare.
Long time, no see! Had to do a double-take when I saw this in my notifications!
haha I only post when there's a solar eclipse
He’s back ! So excited to watch this !!!! 🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️
Knew it was only a matter of time before we got another awesome documentary. Going to set aside some time tonight to watch after dinner. I already know I’m going to love it!
Been a while, glad to see you back.
Excellent video! It's like a late Christmas with you and @HistoricNerd releasing new videos!
Haha thanks. Just kind of worked out that we finished at the same time
Dude these are so well made!
Thanks! Appreciate the kind words
Great to see another video! It's crazy to see how rocky of a history the development of this was. It definitely put a lot of things into perspective. On a somewhat related note, this video put me over the edge on getting another classic DMG model. I had been thinking about one for a while, but bit the bullet today and am having a backlit mod done to it as well. Thanks! Haha.
I love this channel. What a treat to get a video before work
Thanks for watching. Hope you have a good day at work!
I wouldn't be the gamer I am today if not for the GameBoy. I _always_ preferred playing games on my own, wherever I was. Many of my fondest gaming memories are car trips where the hours would widdle away playing Tetris, Mario Land, Operation C and much later, Zelda and Pokemon. I might honestly consider the GameBoy Color to be my favorite gaming device, ever. The minimal colorization of the pre-set pallets the GameBoy Color had that made sprites a different color than the background seemed like voodoo to me, as this was something even the Super GameBoy couldn't do. It made games that I had played in green monochrome come alive in the way watching rare color film of WWII makes that time in history come alive.
17:05 this effect reminds me of a certain man who has lightning effect and says motivational things
13:28 Nice details on the wear and tear on the GameBoy boxes! Dude, the visuals are amazing, as always. These details are a visual feasts.
I also liked this detail, and I did rewind it to ensure that I saw what I saw:
8:07 Shaking hands with two hands. ***Was this a conscious choice?***
13:53 13:54 This transition is stellar. Going from the DevKit to the GameBoy is genius.
Moreover, initially, I did not know what I was looking at. But since you placed about the DevKit's next to the screen, it made everything clear (and allows me to identify it in this comment)
14:34 WRESTLING WITH GAMING Dot Matrix Screen. (Initially, I was going to write about your impressive attention to detail. Having read "WRESTLING WITH GAMING Dot Matrix Screen"
I think your sense of humor also shines. (Usually see this in some of your bloopers) For me, I literally laughed while writing this. No idea why, but this was hella funny..
15:21 Titling the Japanese articles 90 degrees and overlaying the English text. Good touch!
35:13
speaking of humor, "Lucky you!🎉 I guess."😅
Seriously, though, GB Pocket's screen was a major improvement over the original's. I wonder if any companies made these abmisnal attachments for the GB Pocket.
39:58 " Not too shabby for a cancelled and hopeless project."
***** Nice touch with pairing visual storytelling wiith your narration***" "It's all ready, it is!" As if the GameBoy finally came together at the end. Which it did.
Wonderful summation
Thanks so much. I believe you're talking about the handshake in the window. Well, it was a conscious decision but one out of necessity lol. I'm not really great with character animation at all. So the two men shaking hands is actually a royalty free video of businessmen shaking hands that I made a silhouette of. It ended up being a bit shorter than I wanted for the shot so I reverse looped it which is why they shake hands again. Or maybe they're just really excited about their deal! Lol.
Thanks for pointing out all those little things in the video you enjoyed. I really appreciate it and it's nice to see that stuff not go unnoticed. The first half of this video was a lot of me going, "what the heck am I going to do to visually represent this?"
When I found out what the dev kit looked like I thought to myself, "oh good, this will be easy to model." And it was easy but at the same time it doesn't look like a dev kit or even like an electronic device lol. So adding the dev kit text was a must or otherwise I didn't think anyone would've known what it was. It's accurate to the real life dev kit though. Even that little sticker on it.
Thanks again for all the feedback and kind words. Have a good weekend!
It's great to see you back, man! First HistoricNerd and then you :)
You did an awesome with the renders too.
Raally happy to be back. Loved his video on the PS too.
You knocked this one out of the park, man. Great stuff!
Thanks!
Thank you for coming back.
And thank you for waiting
Love the video! Great job as always. The 3D renders and animations look so phenomenal.
Thanks! They were a lot of work but comments like this make them worth it.
@@WrestlingWithGaming I was so impressed!
So happy you're back! I hope you're recovering from your injury! I've been recovering from a tendinosis injury for some years now myself.
Excellent video. This is one of the few channels where I will go back and watch a video twice. This will be one of them. Amazing work! Always worth the wait. ❤️
Thanks. I've been dealing with it for years myself. It's finally gotten significantly better. Good luck with your recovery. It's a marathon but it gets better eventually
Welcome back sir! Great video to see!
great video, the story telling and edition is top notch :D
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you liked it
I video on the making of the wonderswan would be great the story of that device is more obscure and imagine how the industry would be toda y if gunpei dont have that accident, really sad.
Excellent video, with animations consistently top-notch as usual. Overall, this video stands as one of the finest when it comes to detailing the Gameboy creation process. Kudos to you and keep up the outstanding work!
Thanks so much, glad you liked it. I'd definitely recommend getting The History of Nintendo Vol 4 when it comes out on English. There's a TON of stuff in the bin that I didn't even touch. Thanks again!
your editing is amazing. good job!
Thank you so much!!
Happy to see that you’re still going strong. This was a great video, a really great production
Much appreciated!
Great video. So much care goes into these and it’s amazing. I got my gameboy when I was 5 years old and still have it.
It's amazing how a lot of the library still holds up. Thanks for the kind words and for watching
Fantastic job on the editing and animations. Incredible video content.. 10/10 stuff right here.
Man, your videos were already some of the best gaming history documentaries... but you've outdone yourself! You've truly honed your 3D animation abilities to achieve a visually delightful presentation that elegantly supplemented and made everything easier to follow!
I certainly used to believe the Game Boy was all Gunpei Yokoi's idea, so it was fascinating to learn there was much more to its development. Satoru Okada deserves more recognition!
Congratulation, I think this is your best video yet and I eagerly await whatever you do next!
This comment made my day. Thank you so much. Okada definitely deserves more recognition. Yokoi was obviously still instrumental, just not the way most people think he was. I'm kind of surprised sites didn't make corrections after issue 163 of Retro Gamer came out but I guess it flew under the radar. Thank you again!
Man, I was scared we lost you! So happy to see you back in the seat again, killing it.
Thanks, happy to be back!
Thanks for your hard work and dedication to quality
My pleasure. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it
Good to see you back! I came across your channel a few years ago (before Covid) and have always been impressed with your production value!
Much appreciated! Very happy to be back
Man, every time I watch one of your videos I'm blown away at the production value. They are truly pieces of art! Glad you're back and so looking forward to your next video!
Wow, thank you! More to come soon
Hell yeah, I’m always stoked to see you in my feed Yahel. This was a beautifully produced video and as always it was very informative. Looking forward to more content from you.
I appreciate that! Gotta you liked it and I do to upload regularly again now
I can't wait to finish this tonight! I'm happy to see a new video on your channel!
Hope you enjoy it!
Return of the king! Glad I stuck around, well worth the wait!
Thanks for sticking around!
The bit about "twice the CPU performance" in the GBC was simply that it had control bit that doubled the CPU clock - so it could run at the standard 4.19MHz for compatibility and games that didn't need the performance, and 8.38MHz for CGB only games that did.
We ALL missed you! I was actually looking up your videos and social media the other day to see if you were back yet. So happy to see it was right around the corner!
Thanks for being patient. Very happy to be back
So glad to see another video from you!
Great video man!!! Good to see you back
Your videos are a cut above the rest and Worth the wait. Keep it up!

Super informative video as always :)

Where have you been? So glad you’re back !!!!
This channel needs more attention! You make fantastic videos that are so informative!
Great to have you back. The production quality on your videos is awesome. Really enjoyed this one and remember getting a Gameboy for my 11th birthday the year it came out.
Thanks so much. Very happy to be back
Your storytelling and renders are out of this world!! I'm shocked to see you back, but so happy you are! I was going through my subscriptions a few weeks back and thought I hadn't seen anything from you in years, and you come back with this absolute gem. Your time and effort on this is so appreciated!
Thanks for sticking around, like you said, it's been a while since I posted. I was basically dealing with some bad tendinitis in both arms for years and finally doctors said I had to limit excessive clicking and typing as best I could so that it'd get better. Well, I typed a lot at my job so unfortunately the videos and even gaming, had to go by the wayside. But I'm better and back now. I'll be posting regularly again.
Great to see you back. Your videos are always of a high quality. Well done again, mate!
Thanks a ton!
Amazing video dude! So happy to see you back!

Wow. Such a great video. Incredible quality and professionalism. Very entertaining and informative too. Great work!
Much appreciated!
Long time no see. Glad you’re back! ❤❤

Just checked your channel the other day for new content. One of the best NeoGeo history videos ever. Can't wait to watch!
Thanks. I'm really happy with how that Neo Geo video turned. I was fortunate to have so many other great RUclipsrs add their own experiences.

Thank you! Will do!
I got my gameboy for my 10th birthday in 1996. Came with Tetris and my mom got Centipede\Millipede as well. Eventually got the Camera and Printer. Good times.
Yahel, this was amazing! Great info and great animations. Your best work yet! I can't wait to see what else you have in store!

This is awesome Yahel! 100% worth the wait. It’s probably my second favorite after the Xband video which is my favorite YT video of all time. Can’t wait for the next project.
Thanks so much. And I promise, it won't be two years before the next video this time
This is an EXCELLENT history of the GameBoy. I’ll never forget getting mine in 1989. It was incredible! I loved it and this retrospective gave me a great flashback of that wonderful time in my life. Thank you.
Good to hear you're doing better - this video was great and the graphics fantastic!
Thanks so much!
Awesome! So glad to see a new video, I was starting to wonder if Yahel retired the channel. And it's great I can learn more about the history of my beloved Game Boy!
Just had to take some time off to let my tendinitis heal. I'll be posting regularly again now though. Thanks for being patient!
Ah damn, hope you're feeling better! And your videos are always worth the wait. You do an awesome job and I'm always excited to see new videos from you.
Like everyone has previously stated, it’s really good to see new content on this channel. Also, you knocked it outta the park on this video. I love the use of 3D animation and using the gameboy onscreen graphics to tell the story. Great job Yahel.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. It was a bit tedious to put the visuals for this one together but I'm pretty happy with how it came out. Glad people are digging it. Thank you again for the kind words.
holy crap forgot you existed! one of my fav channels!
hope you been good doing other stuff being happy
Haha I do indeed still exist. I was dealing with some bad tendinitis in both arms and basically just had to cut back on doing small repetitive movements as much as possible for it to get better. Unfortunately editing is nothing but small repetitive hand movements. But it's manageable now and I'll be posting regularly
