Notes on Oleg Chen's clip: Oleg is now one of the coaching staff at a gym called Marin Heavy Athletics, around San Francisco, California atm. He came to the US around the time the war with Ukraine kicked off. iirc, I don't think he was really training much around that time, I remember seeing them post clips of him just starting to train again and knocking off some rust a while back -- snatching like 90kg, clean and jerk just 120 or something. Building back up. Nice to see him put something big overhead again, that 172 jerk is a big deal given that context IMO.
The country of Iran has allot of potential in weightlifting even in allot of other sport. The problem is the corrupt leaders of the country. They dont priorities or put noney into this sports. For me its amazing and astounding to see how great Iran is doing in sports even when the regime doesnt support upcoming athletes. They make the most out of what they have (equipment recources etc.) And for me it makes me respect them even more. Love from a Iranian who was born and raised in Norway! ❤❤❤
FYI Bigman's deadlift at about 47:30 appears to be a suit! He has suit slippers/ leggings on underneath and it looks pretty snug around the hips, which are giveaways. Some suits (often single ply) don't have the velcro straps that multiply suits tend to have. Still a huge DL!
48:00 guy weared Inzer Hardcore deadlift suit - pretty rare equipment, which causes much pain and don't allow normal breath, but helps in deadlift enough to tolerate that inconveniences
Gotta give it to you guys, you rocked Tervo's name. Her physique is so impressive. Like you look at her and go "well that's a big woman" but then you realize she's really fit in that size, you can see all the muscle ton. Unfathomable. Looking at Scott's axel push press, it's no wonder he's not pushing the head through like a weightlifter. Holy moly just the thought of that coming down on your neck. And I was concerned when he dropped it on the rack, for the sake of the rack. To be fair Landa's back doesn't really seem round other than the upper back and who cares about that? The lower/mid back is like a plank. Also it looks like his back is just kinda shaped like that with the muscles and everything, it didn't get better even when he walked away with straight back. Imagine that 335 lbs sprinter come at you at that speed. There will be literally nothing left of you, it's like a train crash or getting hit by a truck if you stand in his way. That Lugo's squat... it's so deep. Unreasonably deep for powerlifting. At first I thought it might've been parallel but then I looked at how huge his leg muscles are on the both side.
Should have Nonso Chinye in here (may have been on already but can’t remember). Pulled 370/815 conventional on a stiff bar n calis this week, still 18. Crazy bloke
Moradi's career had a lot of weird stuff going on. The methadone positive is for sure one of the weirdest things I've ever seen in WL. I've heard Iran does have an opiate abuse problem, but was he using it for pain relief like the Greek team that got caught with methyltren and suboxone? Was he set up in some manner? Did he have an opiate problem he was trying to kick? Why a 4 year ban and not a 1-2 that would be more typical for this kind of drug? He could have I think easily gotten a TUE if he was using it for pain relief or for opiate addiction. Why didn't that happen, political stuff with Iran? Also, would love to see the Ilya snatch!
So glad we don't get to see TylerscottObinger's bar drop onto the pins. EDIT: Whoops, spoke too soon. Amazing lifts regardless. Ilya, please post the snatch. The internet needs you.
Smaev is training mainly armwrestling now i think, but he did start as a calisthenics guy, in fact it was his heavy pullups being a heavyweight that made him famous also from what i remember he does admits to taking peds
Oleg Chen is training and coaching at Marin Heavy Athletics in Novato, California

Ilya, Moradi, Okulov, and Aukhadov are my favourite lifters to watch and rewatch by far. They are strong and their lifts are so aesthetic.
Keep making these nearly an hour. The extended commentary and coaching advice is some of the best content out there!
Seconded
Smaev also posted a 171 kg pullup pr. That's around 50 kg over the world record, albeit not to competition standard. Mind boggling!
Yup, insane!

TheFrontRackKid is a freak, he popped up randomly on my RUclips 2 years ago and he just keeps getting better
he’s fixing his technique right now, so bigger lifts are on the horizon

We need the snatch Ilya!
335lbs is ~152kg lads, which is MENTAL. That lad was like shit off a shovel, absolutely making a mockery of that track.
What would weightlifting and strength sports be without you lads
Great show lads. You’re the best.
Great content as always

love the content boys
26:50 Smaev!!!! He’s a streetlifter turned armwrestler. He has done heavy weighted muscle ups too.
Zack made a video about him back in the day
Love the longer video. You should do a news hour!

Ilya, I've got a fever, and the only prescription is that unpublished snatch video. Please release it, my brain will be scrambled egg without it 😂
Pretty sure Lydia Valentin said in interview that her best squat was 180, but she didn’t try 1rms. She was a 75kg lifter.
Great news show lads
If Ilya posts the snatch video will that unlock the "Republic of Sikastan" t-shirts for purchase?!?!
