I really like what you did with the recording device and proximity to the amp. Could hear you speak clearly, and the amp sounds great with all the bottom and clarity.
Nice bass I like the style, I can feel Johnny Long sometimes I don't know my instrument but I'm learning. That's the thing that keeps me happy during these crazy times, stay safe and God bless.
It sounds awesome, definitely gave a different voice to it. But honestly the original Ibanez preamp VariMid III is great too, studio quiet. Offers bass, treble and a powerful and rare semiparametric midrange control. Maybe something was wrong with the wiring on this particular bass when it was sent to Johnny. Ibanez branded DFR pickups were actually made/licensed by Bartolini, and eventually this same bass started using the Bartolini MK1, entry level. I prefer the first generation with the Ibanez DFR pickups, Bartolini MK1 doesn't have any character no matter what preamp you pair with it, at least to my ears.
I just bought this bass with the Ibanez electronics and I have to attest that they are amazing! Lots of control! I was gonna change the electronics but now need to, I just changed the strings!
Shadda and a kaka to ya JLL!!!!!....SO I have a BTB 470 with Bartolini MK2 and the stock Ibby preamp in her.....HONESTLY should I go with a higher dollar preamp such as the Audere ....OR do pick ups and a Tone Monster SEB3?????
Did those pickups need any routing? I have a very similar Ibanez BTB, but I didn't think there were pickups that fit in the existing routs. I'm going to look into the Basslines.
Hey I have been watching your videos after repairing a bass and you inspired me to do more mods. I have an Ibanez RD707 that had a broken neck in a pawnshop the fretboard came unglued and was badly re-gled back and I challenged myself to fix it and it came out pretty sweet. Its all passive as a guitarist who only prefers passive the bass is perfect. Its a PJ with a precision pickup placed differently the jazz i replaced with an Aguilar clone I found. My mods will be keeping it passive. Push/pull volume with series/parallel switching for the precision pickup, a blender knob and a Tone monster PTE (passive tone enhancer). I feel like the bass will be everything I need after that its a 4 string with BOOTY as you say it! I know with the mods it wil be killer. What do you think of this passive PJ setup? I really don't want to go active... because Bass should never die.
I have that IDENTICAL bass Johnny and have loved since the day I got it. A store owner told me to take and try it out at a gig one night and said if I liked it, he'd make me a great deal...I did and he did! She's one of 11 basses in the corral...my MM stingray is my #1, but you can never have enough paint brushes in the arsenal! ;) Want to build a PJ to add to the brushes next!
I got the BTB846 Fretless model. To tell you the truth, in terms of how it feels and plays it is the instrument I have been wanting my whole life because it fits my style. However, been thinking about changing the pickups/ preamp, maybe sending it in?
"Elogwint", haha JLL you crack me up man. Seriously, I used to own one of those, it never sounded like that. Probably more to do with the player than the bass. Awesome stuff coming through the HoboDepot!
That Ibanez sounds great! I've got a 99' Warwick Streamer Pro M 4 that I love but I'm not happy with how she sounds when going thru the amp. Acoustically she's good tho. Took out the 21 year old MEC twin-j pup and put a Delano quad coil twin-j pup in it. The original 2 preamps are still in there. I think she needs to go visit the Hobo Depot for some love! Different preamp and a way to access those coil options from the Delano. Can you do it and how do I start the process? Thanks Mr. Long and love your channel, playing and spirit. God bless you and your Queen... 🙏🏽🎸🙏🏽
@@LONGCASTLE777 Hi Johnny . Have you ever done a tutorial on a Tobias Growler ? I bought one without the push and pull with the single pickup but I really have no idea how to play with the tone controls
@Andre King Thanks for replying but I'm not looking for the bass in this video. I want to know about the bass in his other video where he. Is performing the song "The Walk". It was posted a few weeks ago.
Inspiring bassmanship e good humour, what a great combination!
Thanks Johnny for showing to us the variety of Basses and your insite on them. And the entertainment that comes along with it! Keep doing what you do!

I have this bass with the standard pickups. Was thinking of selling it, but I'm gonna do this now. What a difference!
I finally figured out what you’re saying in the intro. Only took me about 10 videos and hundreds of rewinds!!
That bass sounds incredible!
