Hi ShaneZell. First of all, as the current Any% record holder you deserve much more than 431 subscribers, so I just subscribed. I was the Single Segment record holder 12 years ago. I can very well appreciate how much time you put into this and the knowledge you must have on the game to reach those times. Really nice run, I love the idea! That being said, I've taken a few notes while watching your run. Do with them as you will. - I think fighting Arachnids and Asps may be better than ogres. They're harmless and they give good exp. - Don't level up too much before Astos. Ruse + Mute defeats everything and is accessible at very low levels. - OK for HRM2/HRM3 after astos on Zombulls for a good level but not too much (L15 might be enough?) - Vampire and Lich are easy with Harm spells. Did you consider AICE/ALIT/AFIR for Lich and stabilizing / slow killing it with lower level Harm spells afterwards? - Get Ribbon, Opal bracelet and Thor hammer asap, level-up after - Kraken and Tiamat are easy with items (Defense, Zeus, Bane) - Kary is also easy with Defense & Black shirt (also MUTE works well) - Once you have 400+ hp and a few CUR4, go for Masmune then EXIT, level-up on EYEs after - Level up to 42 (on EYEs with Masmune), then go for Chaos. That'll give you 3 hits with Masmune. - It seems to me you really gotta do battle counting to get better (runnable) encounters if you want a good run - On Kraken2 use Black shirt, not Thor. He's as vulnerable to Ice than to Lit (not resistant, not weak) - Don't waste FADE on other than Chaos - Don't use BANE againt Chaos, that's crazy, just attack him with Masmune and use FADE if SLOWed. At Level 42+, your odds are better than BANE, I think Thanks so much for the content! I'll be watching all your videos and hopefully after all these years I can learn a new thing or two about the game as well!
I'm glad that you've enjoyed the content, I'm currently working on beating my any% time. While doing that I've just been doing random challenges to break up all of the death.
I am curious, how do you find the time to play video games this much, let alone one game this many times, in this many ways? I barely have time to clean my house and do my grocery shopping.
@shanezell lol. Well as long as you're happy! I like playing games but I don't think I have the patience to be able to sit through an entire run without stopping. Especially not for 8+ hours. 😅 And even if I did, my wife would come over and be like "why aren't you spending time with me???" And I would have to stop, or get a divorce. 😂
Magic is quick to restore, potions I have to buy again one at a time. It costs a lot of time to rebuy back all of the potions and you need a lot of potions to get through the final dungeon.
@@shanezell Gotcha. That makes sense. I just keep thinking about wasted Harms, but that never seems to be a problem for you. I don't know how you do it. I get anxiety just watching you do some of these runs.
@@BranceCrantly I've played through this whole game many, many times lol. I generally know what I'm getting myself into and try to use my magic wisely.
@ShaneZell Brings me back to the 90's when I was consistently grounded as a kid. I'd just stay in my room, listen to music, and play FF1. I would never have been able to beat it without the Nintendo Power Player's Guide, though.
Geez, I thought four white mages was a challenge... EDIT: Just eyeballed your channel, I'm your newest sub. Love this game, love your challenge runs, and the fact that you've got some records. You playing on original hardware? I can't record my NES yet, so I usually play on my Pie.
I'm glad that you enjoy the videos. I do plan on having a lot more challenges in the future as well. I do have some FF1 world records, and I also plan on making those records better in time. My runs are all done using "fceux" it is the only accurate emulator that works for FF1. It is the same emu that TAS users use.
@@shanezell I've never heard of FCEUX, is that good for other games too? I've been having issues getting punch out to emulate well. I'd love to see a few more challenges. I feel like solo black belt would be hilarious. Or even worse, solo thief. EDIT: Do you do other games, as well? I feel like Ultima: Exodus would be an amazing game to Speedrun. I've thought about learning it myself.
@@iami3rian394 NES games work best with different emulators so you might have to research for each game that you plan on playing without the actual console. I have done solo black belt. I'll do a solo of every class and 4 of a kind of each class in time. I have done speedruns of a few other games. I currently hold the world record for every category in Ogre Battle 64. I'm not sure what other games I will do runs of in the future.
@@shanezell no kidding? That's awesome. Every category. That makes you the best player in the world, I'm pretty sure. That's so dope. I loved ogre battle. I can't find a working N64 emulator at all. They run the games fine, just can't save states or do anything else. Do you use one for the N64 as well, or run OG hardware for that? EDIT: Bro, I'm only 2hours into this run, and your RNG is atrocious, I hope it gets better. Those zombull fights, oh my lord.
@@iami3rian394 I play OB64 on the Wii. N64 emulation isn't great, project64 is your best bet. Playing any game long enough you can see great and poor luck, it happens.
Awesome run, I'm just starting my solo bb run. It's absolute pain haha but after grind it seems to be more fun.

I wonder if the lvl2 invs spell would help with evasion any...
Invs is half the strength of ruse, it's only use is to cast on other people.
