I just realized, this is probably the ONLY version of the Pied Piper mythos that actually has a happy ending with the children actually being reunited with the parents and the parents after suffering their consequences/learn their lesson change society for the better.
I have a hypothesis on why this movie was lost and never released. It all has to do with a Nickelodeon wanting to keep up their image as a television network safe for children. Think about it. This story is based on the classic story of the Pied Piper, a story where a mysterious man, after his award is cancelled, lures kids to their deaths like with the rats. Also, there maybe fears that this would make Nick look bad because some would compare this story with pedophilia, because it is about a man who lures children into a secluded area who could live with them. But it is such a shame because the creator of _Chalkzone_ turned an otherwise kind of now dull tale into a heartwarming classic. It's like if _Frozen_ was directed by James Gunn or Steven Spielberg back in the 1990's. The animation is colorful and lively, the characters are all relatable, the soundtrack is amazing, and the story is dripping with heart. And of course this story in no logical way supports pedophilia, it's simply a story of a man who wants to be friends and only friends with kids because he always felt alone when he was little, but in the end he helps the kids discover how to be themselves in a society that does not want them to do that. Not to mention the voice acting being superb. Wayne Brady was a perfect lead for Sly, Rodney Dangerfield was enjoyable as the Rat King, Rob Schneider was amazingly not annoying in the beginning, and George Segal was ideal for the role of the Mayor. This should be seen by everybody. The thought this thing was almost lost to all of humanity makes me scared about the other amazing gems that weren't so lucky...
The reason it's never been released is due to the songs sounding similar to other songs, and nick holds no rights to the real songs, not even when they were making it
No, here's another reason why this movie was never found prior August 9, 2016: The movie wasn't released on home video nor on video-on-demand nor rerunning it, due to references to real-world songs from the 60s and 70s, which Nick didn't allow to rerun it or releasing it on home video, due to legal issues.
I wonder why Nick would hide this for so long. The music is great. Its up beat and with that kinda off Broadway feel kinda like Hamilton. I dont see why they would never release this.
+Brandon Martinez It probably wasn't because of the music. Since this movie only aired twice, my guess is that Nickelodeon probably forgot about after a while and it just faded into obscurity.
+Ben Johnson according to some research I did, the movie was forgotten because nick couldn't find a safe way to distribute it because the music sounds very similar to other real life songs, and nick holds no rights to the songs. While filming this they had to re record some of the songs
This movie was found somewhere, i was given a link on another video, and i am spreading the link to other videos regarding this movie, someone will do it i'm sure
arch-RUclips has gotten more strict with copyrights, some movies that were uploaded on RUclips, stayed there for a few years and recently were removed. For example someone uploaded KND Operation:Zero back in 2014,but was removed 6 months ago.
omg, this movie had a very good soundtrack, i don't understand why it was lost. this cartoon movie is better than most cartoons we see today. it's really sad to see things lost. i remember as a little child seeing the previews for this on nick back then. i never thought 16 years later i'll be finding this as a lost film. this really makes me a little scared. like what if some of the movies and shows we see now, gone within 16 or 20 years. and we'll having to find it as lost footage.
There's a supposed lost TV adaptation of the fairy tale "Dwarf Nose" by German author Wilhelm Hauff. Many people in Russia claim to have seen it in the 1980's on the USSR Central Television Network, and none of the known film adaptations (around 20 of them) match their descriptions. They claim it was shot in a gothic style, in the realism genre, and was the scariest thing they've ever seen, with some of them still having nightmares. What's interesting is that no information about the film was recorded in Soviet newspaper TV programs, which has prompted many people to think that the film was shown without a valid broadcasting license. Various film organizations and studios, in countries like Germany (including archives from both East and West), Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden, United Kingdom, and others, have been contacted, and all have said they are unfamiliar with the film in question, with some not responding at all. The search is now 16 years old and ongoing. The mysterious film has not been found or identified. It's existence remains unconfirmed, and yet a group of almost a thousand people claim they remember watching it.
Everybody here does a great job. Especially Wayne Brady and Rodney Dangerfield. In fact, Dangerfield died the next year after this is premiere, so this is probably one of his last roles.
You know, I can't begin to imagine how the Mayor of Hamlin must have felt when a black wizard used an electric guitar to lure his kids into a wormhole in the side of a mountain because he wouldn't sell him a motorcycle. I'm just saying that's a pretty weird scenario to be caught up in.
The music and ambiance is some scenes just leave me fucking BREATHLESS. If I heard the music before seeing this, I would definitely be tricked that it was written for a big budget movie or something, definitely not a Nickelodeon tv movie. This is a work of art, and enjoyed every second of this. The voice acting was great with a good cast (especially for a TV movie) the music is AMAZING and the animation is very pleasant to look at. All of this come together in harmony as being one of the best Nick production out there imo. Truly a labour of love, and you can tell everyone working on this had a wonderful time and but their hearts into everything.
Purple Master Bobsheaux I can see doing this more since he’s more into reviewing obscure films whether they be good or bad and unlike the Nostalgia Critic Bob is less cynical and violent and I can see him liking this film
The music is absolutely fantastic. It's a wonder how such a labour of love with such effort dripped into it was tucked under the rug to never be seen again.
We are at a 5 year annivesary of this being Found Media (within 2 days from now). And to celebrate I'm uploading an uncut musical workprint to my channel with Super-VHS quality. Enjoy in two days. A review would be sweet
pretty good for such a simple concept. Gives both an early 2000's with an older 1960s - 70s setting. 9/10
My favorite part of the film is how Sly mentored Mick and taught him how to play a guitar at full-power, since he couldn't play at Sly's level.
"Where'd that hippie go?" Great dialogue
"Garbage is your friend. Why not wallow in your friend?"
"You'll be late for your ballet lessons!"
