I wouldn't call it Punk... although it IS exactly what Punk was at in it's best moments... I just think this had more about it... as Alice Cooper did in the 70's
I never heard credit given to Joe Jackson for writing the song they made a sizeable ammount of money off of. I'm sure it's in the fine print on the record.
@@edwardlubin322 Joe made all the money off that song. Unlike England, performers in North America don't get a performer royalty, only the song writer gets the $$$$. Anthrax would have made their $$ of sales of the album.
@@edwardlubin322 In almost every interview I've ever heard with Anthrax when Got The Time is brought up they credit Joe Jackson and mention when they met him Joe said in his live version he always played it faster than they did.
I can't believe the number of people here who are comparing Joe Jackson to Anthrax. It's like comparing apples to oranges; it's the same song, but they're drastically different genres. In this case, "better" is truly subjective.
Joe Jackson once said that he thought the Anthrax version of this song was played too slowly. He bragged that his band played it twice as fast as them. I was skeptical of this so I checked the recorded version from Look Sharp to the Anthrax version. And the Joe Jackson version was actually a few beats slower than Anthrax. But now that I see this, I understand what he was talking about--I don't know if it's twice as fast as Antrax but it's significantly faster.
Just hearred this for the first time. Was skateboarding around and it was playing outside the Irish pub. Had to STOP and appreciate the tHe greatness oi
🌟🎶 In 1980 I recorded this awesome concert with my tape recorder on the radio. Later I found it on CD. One of the best live concerts in my collection.🎶🌟
I Me and some friends saw them on this tour at Manchester Apollo. Got meet them after. Thet were really nice and Joe even took time to writ e letter of encouragement to my friend regarding his band.
I consider that clip the greatest live performance of a punk rock song on film. There may have been better ones, but you had to have been there to have seen it.
It always amuses me when people are shocked to learn that some some they love turns out to be a cover. It wasn't some big secret when Anthrax released their version; And obviously none of these people who "love" Anthrax so much ever actually bought the album "Persistence Of Time", since the songwriting credit was clearly printed on the label and the liner notes.
I was a baby when this song was new, and I was 21 when I first heard anthrax. My thoughts were, "Wow, this is really punk," and that it wasn't like their other songs. The big shock for me was how faithful the cover was!
I remember when Anthrax's version came out and it was definitely no secret that it was a cover but I had no idea who Joe Jackson was. Now in the days of the internet, it's easy to find stuff out but back then, not so much.
Joe Jackson got the time my favorite Joe song been bass player for30 years took a while to play note for note anthax covered time and. Raped it bass solo all bad thanks band and Joe the best
always thought Joe was very underrated for his contribution to punk rock
Way understated. Good point..
Got that right... he should be one of the pioneers of British punk revolution
You thought right.
I wouldn't call it Punk... although it IS exactly what Punk was at in it's best moments... I just think this had more about it... as Alice Cooper did in the 70's
that was punk. Contribution to heavy metal (Anthrax cover)
I love Anthrax version, but the original is great too! VERY GOOD!
I thought it was so cool when they covered it. My metal head friends couldn't believe it was a Joe Jackson song.

I love the Anthrax version but this sounds way more frantic and really gets the point of the song across brilliantly.
Graham Maby is definetely an underrated bass player. He's at his best during that period
Graham - he was so nice in person - we talked after a show (long time ago) such a gentleman to my wife (who was not really a fan)
When I get my time machine/TARDIS, I’m gonna be front row at this show.
"You've been an above average audience." lol
Esa es quizás la frase más británica que he escuchado por parte de algún interprete.
My favorite was by Rodney Dangerfield: "I'm not going to lie and say 'oh what a great crowd.' Bullshit! I can't wait to get out of here"!!
He's the man
Great song!!!!!! This is 100% punk
Song was way ahead of it's time.
My fuck! One of the greatest recordings ever.

people just can't enjoy it without crying
Well said. It’s like comparing The Wait by Killing Joke to Metallica’s cover of it. Both are great.
I love both
I just heard his live version is faster than the Anthrax version.
Same here
Yep me too!!!
Yeah but it's got no spice to it
@@netrioter ok Karens go back in time and re record it then...if not shut up
It is because Joe Jackson is a badass
Joe Jackson just simply awesome..great songwriter as well..he should make a comeback
He never stopped making albums. Just released one in 2019.
@@Lobster7175 Or touring. I've seen him twice in the past 4-5 yrs.

Approx 20bpm faster than Anthrax's live version.
I wonder what he'll make of Korpiklaani's version released yesterday?

So that Joe delivered as twice faster of words per minute than Anhtrax's Joey Belladonna.
not only a great song and performance but a lesson in how to deal with arsey student hecklers
The best..... music and attitude.....
Happy Birthday, Joe! Thanks for all the killer music you gave us!
Just hearred this for the first time. Was skateboarding around and it was playing outside the Irish pub. Had to STOP and appreciate the tHe greatness oi
CLASSIC PUNK ROCK AT ITS BEST!
I didn't realize this song was written by Joe. Awesome! Anthrax has good taste.
Graham Maby's bass intro is fantastic, the early JoeJackson stuff still stands up today!
Thanks for posting.
Brilliant composition. Such a well formulated song.
Graham Maby on bass guitar 🔥

Sounds like punk/ska! So cool!
It is.
Always liked this song and album. Never saw this live version. Thanks RUclips and poster. Anthrax covered this as well for the metal heads.
Absolutely superb song. Love Joe. Anthrax's version was good too.
They got along well with him and admitted they could not keep time with his band xD
Best days of my life!

Great energy!!
Check out "I'm the Man" from the same concert. Outrageous.

What a great song! What a great band! Saw them live circa "Beat Crazy". Awesome...
The original and it's brilliant. Yes, Joe Jackson played it faster than Anthrax. I loved the Anthrax cover.

@johnny0909000 He was one of the inventors of it!
Nossa! Eu só conhecia a versão Anthrax! Essa é legal também! ;-)
used to think he sang "chicken in my head."
Joe should have covered Startin' Up A Posse. ; )
This live version is somehow faster than the Anthrax version. He's faster than thrash metal!!
