Out of the two the 8a is the much better deal. Me personally, I prefer the plastic matte back, flat camera bar and that sharp aloe color. Idk why people whine and complain SO much about bezels. I’m more concerned with good performance, battery life and having a bug free experience but silly me 😂. Especially if you catch the 8a on sale, it’s kind of a no brainer to go with the 8a over the 8.
The A series offers a lot for the money, especially the cameras and video recording (4k 60). I would take one of these over the Samsung A's.
Me too!
Respect for your intro pointing out sales price and how 8a will eventually go on sale.
The problem is that Pixel 8 are not on their msrp anymore you can easily find one for 50 more than 8A and at the point why not pay for the better phone?
That's like a used Mercedes. Screen replacement for 8a is 155$ and for pixel 8 is 300$. Back Glass for 8 around 150$ and for 8a around 20. You get the drill.
Pixel 8a was 450usd for me after Trade-in. But When i saw OnePlus 12 was 450usd with trade-in with my 8T, i cancelled pixel 8a's order and bought OnePlus 12 for 450usd! I really struggled with 6a for 2 months, there was a one time where mobile data wouldn't turn on for 20 mins and i couldn't book a uber for 30 mins hahaha
If the OnePlus 12 was the same price I'd go for that as well! Great choice.
@@MatthewMoniz thanks! It's about time OnePlus will also give more years of major updates and hope they bring in Google's few AI features to their phones. I think 5 years of major updates should be fine as their prices are much lower than the competition anyway isn't it?
I'ma pixel fan myself yet I'd have made the same choice 1+12 is one of the best phones of the year imo
@@vishnuvijwani The 7 year updates is what made me want a pixel. I've kept my iphone for 6 years and it was nice to keep getting updates.
I just upgraded from my pixel 6a to an s23. Best decision of my life lol. I'm a die hard pixel fan but Google needs to get their tensor game on point
7:24 "I did find the video to look a tiny bit better on the pixel 8, because it does have electric image stabilization along with OIS, where as the pixel 8 only has OIS." What did you mean to say? Does the pixel 8 or the 8a have electric stabilization?
Plastic back v glass back doesn't matter when you put it inside a case
Why put plastic back inside the case?
My 4A keeps working fantastic and beats some new smartphones that doubles its price. Battery life still pretty decent, covers my needs during the day.
Same for me, and I kinda don't want to give up on the fingerscan at the back just yet
I just ordered a Pixel 8 to replace the 4a, but I'll for sure keep the 4a as a backup phone. It still works but the battery isn't good enough anymore. I'll miss the rear fingerprint sensor and headphone jack.
I'll miss the rear fingerprint sensor too - it's silly but I love it and it's muscle memory at this point lol. My 4a 5g has been great but I shattered the screen and it's barely hanging on lol
I'm thinking of getting a 4a as a secondary phone. Would you guys recommend this,
@@paulsichone799 No doubt, great camera, battery for a day and half if you are not a heavy user.
Pixel 8a is the best bang for your buck in any smartphone currently. The only manufacturer that's even competing at this price is OnePlus but once you factor the 7 years of software upgrades the Pixel leaves the competition in the dust.
I'd much prefer a plastic back. Much less likely to crack.
Really? I assumed glass would be stronger
@@BMich2273 in what world is glass stronger then plastic? go throw a rock at a plastic bucket, and a glass vase. see which survives.
@@kyleedgerton3698 lol you missed the sarcasm there
@@BMich2273 sure bud.
@@kyleedgerton3698 got to love it when you think you are calling someone out for being stupid and it backfires lol
So glad you did this comparison, most of what I assumed is spot on. All of the weirdos on X (Twitter) decided that bezels and the G3 are everything.
I personally have the 8 Pro, its only improved and slowly became my preference over my iPhone and Galaxy. Its simplicity is attracting.
Pixel 8 and 8 pro does not have the same G3 either
@@AndrewTSq I know, it's a downclocked version. Should've been called Tensor G3a.
It's the same for Pixel 6a and 7a, so it's not new.
@@LAFadhel I mean all Google Pixel 8s have different tensor g3s. So the 8 Pro does not share cpu with 8 or 8a. Just check tear down videos and the package and id numbers on the cpu:a are all different on each.
@@AndrewTSq that's understandable. Each has a different thermal design. They should've been more transparent.
They should just name them Tensor G3a, Tensor G3, Tensor G3 Pro. Different Clock Speeds etc. but it makes sense why they didn't, most wouldn't even notice the small percentages and no one is buying Pixel for horse power.
@@LAFadhel Yes but the 8 and 8a has only one difference in model number, while the 8 pro is way different. Maybe more ai cores. :) nothing we see in geekbench scores so need ai benchmarks
I think you should include some other tech features into the review like the wireless charging, fast charging, etc. The review is very camera feature heavy which I understand is important to many consumers but so is charging and battery life.
No one cares about charging, charge during the night and call it a day
i loved the curved edges of 8a. literally it looks so Premium but hating it bcaz it has so many Cons.
I've had the 6 pro and the 7 pro , I bought the 8 A and I don't miss a thing. I had so many issues with the 6 and 7 and didn't want to go through it again with the 8 pro. Also it's half the price of the 8 pro.
In Australia the Msrp for the Pixel 8a is $849aud, but with google offering $300aud trade in bonus and $200aud bonus in gift cards, So the phone technically costs $350aud which around $230USD. Nothing can beat that value I bought one just to try the new Google AI features.
I need to upgrade my slow samsung a10 so yes I will be considering
Pixel 8 went on sale once around May for the same price as 8a at $499. With Google Fi offering free 8a, notice so many of them are on sale as open box on eBay to which I've just picked one up for $400. It is a perfectly new phone! Coming from iPhone12, it's practically similar size and weight but 8a has an all day battery life and does get hot during heavy usage.
8a droped actually to approx 350 USD which is the right time to buy! Thanks for the review.
scored a promo with the Pixel 8a 256 GB where they were reduced 100usd and I traded in a very old Galaxy A50 for 28usd. price before taxes went to 422usd. I took a chance to buy an Otterbox react case with the emoji lab from Google. best phone ever tbh
I got my 8a for $199 net; $200 trade in for my 7a and $100 Google credit. Killer deal.
That an amazing deal!
Ok, I am going to change subject... is that your bobblehead on the desk? 😁 Whaaaaaaaaaaaat 🤪
haha yes
I got the regular pixel because it was discounted. I would have chosen the A series otherwise
For Amazon Prime Day, pixel 8 is $499 and 8a is $449, something to consider
One of the main reasons holding me back from considering any Pixel is the feedback I read from many Pixel users about how bad cellular signal reception is, so I wonder if the two antennas on top in the 8a, as opposed to one on the 8, would help with that. I haven't seen any reviewer cover that aspect.
G3 has zero issues with connection. So any of the pixels will have great signal
There are no connectivity issues in 8a , however my p7 had terrible connectivity issues and heated a lot. P8a is a very good phone
Google store has the 256GB 8a at 609 euros now and the 256Gb 8 at 659 euros. I wanted a S24 but with the Exynos chipset the battery time on it is worse than that of the pixel 8, go figure.
On the google fi store they are offering the pixel 8a for $199 as an upgrade option. Is that worth the money compared to other phones on the market?
Thanks for the comparison Matt. I've always been attracted to the design of the Pixels.
You and me both!
I Enjoy both sides. I Purchased the 8a and im enjoying it got it for $400 with a $100 Giftcard. I wanted a unlocked phone that works with all carrier's and it does that. So im pretty happy so far and the fingerprint and other things that were fails for me on the other A series. They fixed and i enjoy the improvements google is steady making.
I got the 256gb P8 for around $250 USD after trading in my 6a, a complete steal for that price. Reminds me of the Nexus days with that value. Don't forget the much faster charging on the 8, coming from the 6a the 27w vs the 18w is a very nice upgrade.
Where did you find that deal and is it still available ?
IMO, this is the first real successor to the Nexus. Perfect price, perfect set of features. Except in “old days” you got a crappy camera. Today, big bezels. The chip, camera, and screen are amazing for the price.
Compare the 8a to to the iPhone SE. It’s not even a contest, 8a curb stomps the SE into ground beef.
Hey nice job on the comparison and I think yeah you're right I would just wait for sale that pixel 8A will be down to 399 or even 375 after a few months
I received my Pixel 8a through Google Fi with a 21 dollar plan for FREE. The 8 would have cost 300 dollars more with the same plan (they give a 400 dollar discount). The pixel 8 would cost 41 dollars a month. Pixel 8 may be worth 200 dollars more, but not twice as the amount per month than the 8a.
Uhm actually I ordered a pixel 8 for my mother in law to replace her Poco f4 Gt that went dead. It had like a sales price running as low as 410euro for a 128gb pink one.. made the most sense getting a regular pixel
Dang, this is making me rethink my future purchase of the 8.
If I trade in my 2 year old pixel 7 i can get the 8a with a case for £200. Does that sound a good deal?
Wtf 7 is flagship
I really would’ve liked the 8 but I’ve read countless reports on green screens or a green line through the screen.
Hey Matt, if you were to buy your older parents an android phone which one would you get them? Any phone brand.
Excited when pixel 9 drops and hows the price for the pixel 8. Looks to be the best "small" phone
The Pixel 8 is all blue-shifted and ruined. The 8a looks better.
I bought a pixel 8 brand new for $400. Google needs to stop making A serious phones
Where did you buy it for so cheap?
Start* Google needs to start making a serious phone. Pixels always felt like $200.00 lower midrange phones to me.
I pick the 8 over the 8a because of one thing trade in value long term the regular line has a better trade in value over the A line
The trade in will be minimal at that point. As long as you got a deal now you’re good to go
And 8a got its first offer for $399 already.
Where?
8a❤️ better design. (4a 2024 edition ☺️)
Currently there is only $20 difference between 8 & 8a in Canada. Which one should I buy ?
8
8 a if you are interested in color
Once its on sale ill trade my Pixel 5 for it to use as my secondary beta device
for which one ? the 8 or the 8a?
how anyone experience does pixel 8 overheat? I want to try using pixel for the first time
I am using a Pixel 7 and the look and feel of using a pixel is just magnificent in some areas, but the major dealbreaker for some people is just the chip and the occasional bugginess that can be quite hampering. Just wish that next Pixel truly gets a chip on par with the snapdragon, i can just imagine what the boost will be, then Pixel will become almost a default option
The pixel 7 was the PERFECT sized phone
5:01 - camera comparison
Which one do you suggest between pixel 8 & S23?
The 8a camera has no macro mode and the wideangle camera has no autofocus. For me this is a downside.
i wonder who at google decided: lets make this display look like a f*ing 150 dollar motorola phone. i mean seriously no one can tell me that they save significant money by giving it those ridiculous bezels. thats just for mocking the costumer...
Alot of us don't care like that. The bezels are a second thought honestly
Seems there is a lot of heating and connectivity issues. Did you face that? A lot of Indian reviewers complained them.
Literally zero problems with heat and connection on any of 8 series. Maybe India got bad batch
Zero heating issues and fantastic connectivity😊
got the 8a for $400 pretty good deal. Def wish the screen was brighter but too late now.
Just got Pixel 8a from my carrier for $400 as an upgrade. Xfinity mobile for the win
pixel phones impart so much network issues in South Asian region.
Right now for Black Friday week the pixel eight is only $50 more than the 8a. No-brainer get the better phone.
Does the 8a support HDR video recording
No
Love pixel phones but hate their underpowered tensor… will wait till they bring back snapdragon.
Well...I got the 8a and I'm returning it to get the Pixel 9. Why? Because the Pixel 8a's screen is atrocious. Worse then my 5a it's replacing. It is a low quality rigid screen. When viewed slightly off axis (even if off axis by pushing/texting) you will see purple rainbow banding. So yeahhhh... It's a HUGE knockdown.
Umm you might of got a dud
@@theduderlife Compared it to one in store. Same issues. Reviews show it. Same issues. It's a low quality screen. The Pixel 9 screen is NIGHT AND DAY difference.
@@flexor212000that’s there flagship 😮 sound right and maybe your eyes are bad
In india its the other way around for some reason. The 8a is priced higher than the 8.
which one is best bro? i am confused
Pixel is a camera phone and pixel 8 is 100% better then 8a, so we can end this topic
That's why last 2 years A series win blind tests and not a pro, right?
bunch of netds in here complaining about bezels when they cant afford the phone in the first place😂
For me the bezels is a deal breaker. Also, it’s 2024 and the Pixel is still a niche phone. Not available in my region.
Yeah, having a bezel on the phone makes your family leave you and your gf run away with your best friend. That's how it works.
@@Gauss00e did his comment hurt your poor feelings?!
Pixel 8a more rounded like pixel 5, pixel 8 little rounded like pixel 4
There's 1 reason I use Google pixels = free backup to Photos. That's it.
I think that privilege isn't accorded to Pixel users anymore.
Nope. I had it since my pixel 2. Now I have the pixel 6 and they took it off 😢
That was only from the pixel 2 till the pixel 5.
they stopped this after the pixel 3a so unless you are uploading from a pixel 3a this isn't true
Pixel 8 better anytime... btw. at 3:30 , what game is that. ?
apex legends
Tx Matt Nice advice
No problem!
Can you use this for texting and calling?
what
Of course you can
I was just being goofy lol@@Shadowan
I go with the s24 plus or the pixel 8a?? Im with the 6a now
Bro, S24 Plus is like, a THOUSAND times better. Wish I had that kind of money 😪
@@mensuusxd i Just bought the s24+ in Italy only for sell it, I pay it 600 bucks with the galaxy watch 6 included and I can sell it for 800. But now I have this doubt because I want the 8a and I don't know if I need to stay with the s24+ without selling it.
Matthew pls add time stamps like battery, camera, conclusion on your videos.
Used pixel 8 is around 400 just wait a few more months and it will be less
Both are great camera no doubt
waiting on the pixel 9 brother
Google trying to be like iphone. Sell downgraded version with new face
The pixel needs to improve the base 9. The 8a and 8 are too close in price and features. Google puts the 8 on sale all the time, often at 549 USD.
For me the pixel 8a is only like 50€ cheaper
Google fi has the pixel 8a for 200 off j just ordered one for 299.00
Apex SFTO spotted =))))
The 8a is better than the 8.
It’s not better but for the price it makes sense
Better value you mean. Best bang for your buck in any smartphone currently, only manufacturer that's even competing at this price is OnePlus but once you factor the 7 years of software upgrades Pixel stomps out the competition.
nobody should be buying any Pixel phone as the main and only device anyway
Why?
@@kaleidoscopeon they are full of bugs and battery doesnt last long
My battery has always been better on ALL 4 of my google phones then any android. And yes apple does have a better battery life it is only on new versions and only for a few months.
Half true, I got a pixel 8a for a pretty good deal but I can't believe how buggy it is. Battery life is actually pretty good, I use my phone heavily and charge every other day
Hiiiii❤
🆗
Both are the ugliest phones of this year.
Does an iPhone 15 plus have a 120hz screen refresh rate please
no, its 60Hz on the Plus. The Pro's have 120 Hz
