This isnt for a heart but genuine, i really do love spiders. I was really interested in them when i was younger, I'd hang out with them and hold them when i was a kid. I had never been bitten once and even handled a redback spider once. Theyre fascinating creatures worth protecting imo.
the vast majority of spiders are not only harmless, but they also feed on the insects that are actually harmful to us (remember, mosquitoes are the most deadly animals to humans). I used to be afraid of any spider, but once I started leaning more about them, I learn to love spiders (well, most of them, I'm still scared shitless of the very few species that are actually dangerous)
as a brisbanian, ive never had a huntsman jump at me but they are still absolutely terrifying, theyre huge, fast and can definitely smell fear because oooohhh boy do they seem to love me
Same problem here, despite knowing the importance of them, it's the number one in things and creatures that scare me the most. Even though I'm a 100kg and 2 meters tall man.
One time, I was visiting my cousins in Melbourne. Me, my sister, and our two cousins were playing dodgeball in the garage, when my female cousin screamed. “THERE’S A HUGE REDBACK SPIDER!” It was right behind the shelf next to her. We all screamed and ran to the parents, where my uncle was able to get it out without being bitten. To this day, My cousin hated the garage and never wanted to to in without balling her eyes out.
I’m Australian, so let me explain - Huntsman are the scariest, they are fast and big - Funnel webs, while I have seen one, there not really that dangerous since they run away if they catch a glimpse of you, the way that people do get bitten, is that they hide in ur shoes. - Redbacks are fucking everywhere - We don’t have the biggest huntsman species, that goes to Laos
So this might differ internationally, but in the U.S., "daddy long legs" is used to refer to two different species, and most people don't realize the difference - the Harvestman (shown in the video), and the Cellar Spider, which looks similar but has a narrower body. The Cellar Spider is indeed a spider and is abundant in American houses. The range map shown is for the Cellar Spider, not the Harvestman.
I have been living in Melbourne for almost a year now, and have never encountered a venomous spider. The majority are completely harmless, and you gotta hand it to them for keeping the *real* bastards like mosquitoes and locusts out of our hair. I love spiders.
I love spiders. But not really. They are fascinating though. Always wondered how they coordinate 8 legs and what they see with 5 eyes. Thank you Mr. Zimbax!
I live in one of the places in the world with the MOST black widows. you always have to shake your clothes to make sure you don’t have them here in the four corners area
i’m australian, and it’s fine, you basically only see huntsmans on your roof or wall and are easy to catch and throw to the neighbours in a cup, or daddy long legs.
Not too many dangerous spiders in N. Indiana. Only the brown recluse and the black widow, and they are far and few between. Also, no scorpions, no wolves, no alligators, no bears, and the poisonous snakes rarely come this far north. We do have the wolf spider, but they are no problem. You may see a coyote or a fox, but that’s about it.
I love spiders. As an Australian, I can confirm that redbacks are only dangerous to children and elderly while funnelweb venom is harvested on Central Coast to use in antivenoms (hence no deaths) and some medicines.
as a queenslander (ne australia) i have to deal with huntsmans all the time in my house. they like to randomly come out of unexpected places and theyre very brave; theyre also huge (biggest i can remember was about the size of a large dinner plate on the backside of a door i had just closed) although i am still glad i dont live in sydney and nsw with funnelwebs that can actually kill me
The picture you showed of a daddy long legs, not sure what that creature is but that is not what is called a daddy long legs in the UK. Here they are creatures with wings, they are not venomous and don't bite, they are also known as crane flies. In fact there are no insects in the UK that can kill you by biting you, unless you are allergic to them. And there is no rabies in the UK and the one venomous snake we have has not caused anyone to die since 1972. There are also no wild animals that would hunt you, like bears, wolves or wild cats.
Interesting. Here in the US crane flies are often mistaken for mosquitos but are never called daddy long legs. Actually, Americans use that term to refer to typically two different species without realizing the difference: the Harvestman, and the Cellar Spider - the latter of which is a spider. Here in the northeast of the US, cellar spiders are extremely common - I could walk into my own cellar right now and find one in 10 seconds or less.
Lol umm I live in Manitoba Canada and we do have hobo spiders living here and I see them alot, in my house (basement specially) and outside in funnel webbing homes and I see them More then any other spider species in Manitoba Canada! I don't think they only live in western Canada and USA... lol! I hate spiders specially the hobo spider! I get very scared when I see one... ah! Lol

Actually the most venomous spider is the Atrax spider that lives in Australia
Known commonly as a funnel web
He said it’s one of the deadliest
Nope the wandering spider is more toxic
I have Arachnophobia and when that Banana Spider got out of the banana I literally felt bugs under my skin...
I feel bad for you... 😔

Camel spiders don't actually chase people though. They chase your shadows because it's cooler there.
