Honorable mention to Japanese copies of Katamari Reroll and Shantae Half Genie which have unique interior art Really glad Sakuna got the shoutout in the thumbnail, one of my favorite switch games
The inner/reversible box arts are a highlight. Does make me sad when they are just blank but most of the games I've gotten over the years have inner art
Can confirm that my Australian copy of Breath of the Wild has BOTH a different front cover AND inner art than your European version, Jon. Your front cover art actually came as a bonus poster for my version.
Can also confirm the North American version has the same front cover as European, but different inner art. The inner art is the image of Link climbing a cliff with Hyrule Castle in the background.
@@MrMathGames Sounds like we have the same inner art then. My front cover is of Link facing away from the "camera" and staring out into the distance with several notable locations in the background. He also has both his sword and his shield drawn. It's actually really cool.
That recording box in the top right corner with the green light that lights up every time Jon speaks in just a small added joy to this video. I just find it neat (also proff that the audio track was recorded alongside the video and not in post, though the fact we can hear the opening and closing of boxes also proves that)
Shout out to Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age on Switch. I love that the default box art is the European key art they used for the original PlayStation 2 release with the Amano emblem of Judge Gabranth , but the reverse art of the main party is phenomenal, and it wasn't in the original PS4 release
I'm from Sourh Africa and we get the European version for our games. My copy of Breath the wild got a different inside box art. It's the one with link climbing the side of a mountain like the one you see on the main menu
Maybe there were several different inner box designs for Breath of the Wild in Europe. My german copy of the game at least has Link climbing a mountain side and I think that's cool.
One particularly great one is Sonic Mania Plus-you could reverse the cover to have red Genesis branding on the spine and just generally a retro vibe. Prior to getting it I already had my Switch and Genesis games near each other because of similarities in color scheme, so it was pretty sick to see
9:00 I wasn’t expecting that. In NA it’s the region. I’m honestly a fan of that with Pokémon games. Getting a look at the world your journey will take place in before you even start.
Love to see Everybody 1, 2, Switch continuing this trend of excellent inner box work. When I opened the case yesterday I nearly passed out from the maximalism
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles in Japan had inner box art explaining controls and having descriptions of investigation and trial parts of the game. It's actually practically the same as the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy inner box art.
Happy to hear Jon liked Harvestella. I’ve wanted to play it ever since I saw the first trailer, but haven’t heard anyone talk about it since. Also, someone needs to get Jon Octopath II and Dokapon Kingdom Connect.
It's a great game, you should definitely give it a go! Don't expect Rune Factory levels of complexity from the farming (for me that was a big plus lol), as it feels more like it's there to enhance the combat, but the story and characters are super interesting and combat is a lot of fun!☺️
Bayonetta 3 is a real interesting case as far as inside art goes. If you got the collector’s edition of that game, you got two cases for the prior two games that each had part of a really nice-looking mural featuring all the characters from the series as their covers, and the inside art of the copy of Bayo 3 was the last piece of the mural. I didn’t know the regular edition had a different inside art until today.
I’ve never heard of Lumote, so it was a nice surprise to discover it has a cool box. Also I’ll take any chance to shill Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin. It’s such a vibe!
You encouraged me to check all my games reverse covers are the best but mario kart 8 deluxe shows the controls which are really basic but In a world without manuals I'd love them to put game controls inside the case
I love the joy that Jon brings to any and every topic he creates a video for - I’m mesmerized by the inner box art gallery! Anyone know who signed his copy of BOTW?
Finally someone brings up what really matters. My only real complaint is that I wish the alternate coves still had the name of the game so it can be worth it to flip it other than it just looking cool which it is. Sony,Microsoft step it up.
The interesting thing about 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is that the Asia release actually includes inside box art of key characters in paint style which looks nice. And here is an irrelevant thing about the PS4 version at least in HK & TW version. While it doesn't contain a inside box art, it contains an JRPG title called Princess Crown. (This title is based off the PSP version which is originally a Saturn release in Japan) While it's only with JP language, it's still a neat inclusion :D
Yup, my NA copy of Breath Of The Wild has a different cover and a different inside box art. It's a great inside art too. It shows Link scaling a mountain on the right side and you see Hyrule Castle over in the distance on the left. It's great. BTW, your inside art for your copy of Super Bomberman R is a lot better looking than mine. Mine has legal warnings on the lower left and upper right with some controls on the upper left and a bit of art on the lower right. I like the old school bombermen better. Also, Sonic Frontiers was very disappointing to get on Switch. You'd think that Sonic would have some awesome art, especially for a game with some cool art direction possibilities like Frontiers...but no...we just get the white void. Why?!?
One of my favorites is a game with a reverseable cover that just recently came out being the HD Remaster of Dokapon Kingdom. The inside cover of that game is absolutely sick!
One of my personal favourite box insides is let's go Pikachu/Eevee having a map of Kanto on the inside with all of the locations of pokemon on the map where they're found in game
One of my favourites is the reversible cover art that comes with the physical PAL release of Dokapon Kingdom Connect. It looks like the promo image for a Saturday morning anime we never got. I love a good reversible cover!
I noticed a couple of differences between my American versions and the European versions that you showed: 1. My version of Pokémon Shield, rather than showing the Rotom phone, shows a map of the Galar region. 2. The American version of Breath of the Wild shows an illustration of Link climbing a mountain. 3. Pretty obvious one, but the Sonic Mania cover is reversed to a Sega Genesis cover rather than a Mega Drive one. 4. The American version of Puyo Puyo Tetris 1 *does* have interior boxart. It boils down to instructions for buttons, while also depicting a bunch of Puyos and Tetrominoes in the middle of a stadium. 5. The American version of Team Sonic Racing does have something inside of its case, but it’s just instructions for racing maneuvers and a rundown of what each wisp does. My personal favorite that wasn’t in your video is the reversible cover for Dragon Quest Builders 2. While the normal cover is just 3-D models, the reversible cover is an illustration that uses Akira Toriyama’s art style and falls in line with the first Dragon Quest Builders' cover.
It does make me very sad/angry when a physical game just has the white blank background. Edit: One of the best boxes is YS VIII, the reversible cover is pretty cool
Been waiting for this one since I saw it on Twitter, loving the vids lately Jon as usual By the way, the Breath of the Wild NA inside art had a guardian instead of the master sword
My copy of Mario Rabbids (NA) has no inside box art. Honestly, my favourite inside box art is 1-2 Switch. It’s just a list of all the games w/pictures, but it’s nice to look at.
the inner art for all the mainline Pokémon games (that I have at least) in the US is a pretty neat map of the region, has kind of a mini poster vibe to it edit: also the inner art for botw is different in the US and tbh I wish we got what Europe did since ours is just link climbing a cliff
We all know the boxart for the Super Mario RPG remake is... polemic to say the least BUT let's hope the inside art is some kind of amazing masterpiece art!! (Edit: 12:41 shows how Metroid Prime's inside art is the Japanese boxart and it's the American on the ouside so they may do this too for SMRPG but with the Japanese outside and the American inside)
I want to give a shout to Pokémon let’s go pikachu and eevee. Their inner art is a really beautiful rendition of the Kanto region map complete with Pokémon drawn near the locations they’d be found in game. Also I have the NA versions of Pokémon gen 8 and 9 and we get the full region art map which I much prefer to the phone case and book
of all the pokemon ones, I like BDSP the most, one has art of the overworld and the other has the underground. Also I remember certain 3DS games had inner boxart, NSMB2 in particular comes to mind
Don't judge a book by its cover but judge a game by it's inner box art
A game that doesn't have an inside box art 😨
Exactly 😂
My man(how Denzel Washington says it).yes yes
I was half debating on making a video on this incredibly specific topic so I'm glad you did this 😂
make it anyway!
You still can! And should
Do it!
That Advance wars 1+2 is just 11/10. Such an amazing attention to detail. That decision must have come from WayForward. Such good devs
This is such a Jon video, I love it. Inner boxart is very unappreciated, great to see some love!
Jon's "meow" is one of my favorite things now 9:50
I saw now the inside of boxes, of games I downloaded. Thank you🙂
Honorable mention to Japanese copies of Katamari Reroll and Shantae Half Genie which have unique interior art
Really glad Sakuna got the shoutout in the thumbnail, one of my favorite switch games

My Austrian Breath of the wild has the same cover as Jon but a different inner cover
@@johannes5659 Nice!
I'm glad you included 13 Sentinels. I recently bought the game and I was pleasantly surprised to see a cat when taking out the cartridge.
If you reverse the dk tropical freeze you loose that iconic funky kong sticker in the corner!
I dont why, but looking at the green light around the knob in the back blink every time Jon speaks is fun😂
Bowsers fury is the GOAT of inner box art
That recording box in the top right corner with the green light that lights up every time Jon speaks in just a small added joy to this video. I just find it neat (also proff that the audio track was recorded alongside the video and not in post, though the fact we can hear the opening and closing of boxes also proves that)

It's one of the things I like most about the physical copy, unfortunately it doesn't have a manual, but the arts are incredible.
I love your immediate 180 on an amazing game immediately being garbage because of its blank inner cover.
About the Super Smash Bros Ultimate one, only the collector edition has that thing, otherwise the normal release has both Ken and Incineroar.
I also have the european version of breath of the wild but the artwork on the inside was different. It just has link climbing on the side of a cliff
10:01 wait, I know that block arrangement anywhere. WORLD 1-1, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!
Triangle Strategy has a similar inner box art to the pixel remasters where it displays the sprites of all of the characters in the game.
6 years late. I've been hanging up the inside arts of the switch games on my walls since day 1
Love the green circle on the mic, perhaps Jon was actually a machine all along, I mean, I don’t see a face here
I'm from Sourh Africa and we get the European version for our games.
Interestingly, my UK copy has the same art as yours and not Jon's
One particularly great one is Sonic Mania Plus-you could reverse the cover to have red Genesis branding on the spine and just generally a retro vibe. Prior to getting it I already had my Switch and Genesis games near each other because of similarities in color scheme, so it was pretty sick to see
For us it was a Blue Mega Drive Spine.
Origins Plus was similar only Black.
9:00 I wasn’t expecting that. In NA it’s the region.
I’m honestly a fan of that with Pokémon games. Getting a look at the world your journey will take place in before you even start.
I would definitely watch a follow up to this video, this is my jam
FFXII has a cool reversible box art too. I know the “Let’s Go” and NSMBWU Deluxe edition have the world maps on the inside as well
Every game should have inner box art or reverse able box art.
Love to see Everybody 1, 2, Switch continuing this trend of excellent inner box work. When I opened the case yesterday I nearly passed out from the maximalism
I love reversible covers, like Sonic Mania Plus
its just depressing on the 3DS, very few games used the square cutouts for art.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles in Japan had inner box art explaining controls and having descriptions of investigation and trial parts of the game. It's actually practically the same as the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy inner box art.
My UK copy of Smash Ultimate has Ken & Incineroar.

I've recently started decorating the boring, plain interiors with stickers of characters from the games.
I’ve never heard of Lumote, so it was a nice surprise to discover it has a cool box.
Also I’ll take any chance to shill Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin. It’s such a vibe!
You encouraged me to check all my games
reverse covers are the best but mario kart 8 deluxe shows the controls which are really basic

I love the joy that Jon brings to any and every topic he creates a video for - I’m mesmerized by the inner box art gallery! Anyone know who signed his copy of BOTW?
I think it was Patricia Somersett (Summersett?) , the voice actress for Zelda in the game.
I don’t own Axiom Verge, but the inside looked like a 1-1 version of Axiom Verge
i love the nier automata one for the switch
Axiom Verge's inner art parodies Super Mario Bros level 1-1.
axiom verge has mario bros 1-1 level layout
the omori one is my favourite, it even has a secret behind the cartridge
The axiom verge one is so cool it depicts an alternate version 1-1 from Super Mario Bros.
These are gorgeous!
Finally someone brings up what really matters. My only real complaint is that I wish the alternate coves still had the name of the game so it can be worth it to flip it other than it just looking cool which it is. Sony,Microsoft step it up.

for advance wars, they really thought of everything.
Didn’t realize Jon and Zion were fans of Clannad! Clannad After Story is probably one of the most heart wrenching shows I’ve ever seen
Most of the time, straight Nintendo published games have inner art, while it's a 50/50 shot for third party published games.
One of my favorites is a game with a reverseable cover that just recently came out being the HD Remaster of Dokapon Kingdom.
The inside cover of that game is absolutely sick!
I print my own inner boxarts, it's fun
One of my personal favourite box insides is let's go Pikachu/Eevee having a map of Kanto on the inside with all of the locations of pokemon on the map where they're found in game

All games should have inner box art, even digital only games!
You may have missed that the Axiom Verge one is an awesome reference to the first stage in the first Super Mario game

Whenever you see Jon's hands you know you're in for a good time
Astral Chain and No More Heroes 3 are favorites in my collection. Bayonetta 2's reversible cover for Bayo 1 is neat too.
I remember borderlands 2 on 360 had a reversible cover and I thought it was so sick in eighth grade. That was the first time I ever saw that
They look amazing!
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin in the thumbnail. 🍚 Amazing choice! 👍🏼
I saw the title and thumbnail and knew immediately it was a Jon video
Been waiting for this one since I saw it on Twitter, loving the vids lately Jon as usual
By the way, the Breath of the Wild NA inside art had a guardian instead of the master sword
There are more in here that are good than not. I'm impressed
I love that reversible cover art for NieR Automata so much
11:02 Interesting as my copy and probably all of NA has inside box art showing the controls like tetris 99.
My copy of Mario Rabbids (NA) has no inside box art.
Honestly, my favourite inside box art is 1-2 Switch. It’s just a list of all the games w/pictures, but it’s nice to look at.
love to see Sakuna in videos, great game
John and Daniel carry this channel.
My favorite one is absolutely pikmin 3 deluxe. Its so silly and serene and green!
the inner art for all the mainline Pokémon games (that I have at least) in the US is a pretty neat map of the region, has kind of a mini poster vibe to it
edit: also the inner art for botw is different in the US and tbh I wish we got what Europe did since ours is just link climbing a cliff

I knew this video from John even before clicking. Also why would anyone have physical version of chocobo gp?
4:12 The American version does have the full roster
Advance Wars has in my opinion the second best box art on the Switch.
#1 of course being Tropical Freeze because what can honestly top that.
I remember Tearaway on PS Vita had inner box art... but the box was OPAQUE
wait, 3:40 ff theatrhythm HK ver does have inbox art tho! but I'm not sure about Japanese ver
Jon doesn’t have 51 worldwide classics physically…..dirty casual.
I just noticed, that the Axiom Verge inner box art seems to be a parody on Mario Bros 1-1.
Ace Attorney's inside is secretly brilliant since it has legal info
9:59 I am slightly disappointed he didn't point out the SMB reference XD
I wonder what the pikmin 4 inner box art will be
I want to give a shout to Pokémon let’s go pikachu and eevee.
Their inner art is a really beautiful rendition of the Kanto region map complete with Pokémon drawn near the locations they’d be found in game.
Also I have the NA versions of Pokémon gen 8 and 9 and we get the full region art map which I much prefer to the phone case and book
The piles should represent the games with or without box art, in order to see the proportions between the two cases (pun intended).
The Doki Doki Literature Club Plus box is one of my favorites if not my favorite switch box, SO clever in my opinion!!!
If you thought the inside of a box were cool, wait till you see whats inside a Nintendo Switch ;)

@@pro-tomanyes, those only unfortunately ...
What's inside John? 🥵🥴

Based Jon for choosing the right Katherine on his box art
This catches major Scott’s Stash vibes
You missed the fact that Axiom Verge is recreating Super Mario Bros 1-1 in its inside art.
