I laughed so hard again while editing that moment. Easily my favourite joke in the entire movie. The way that Thor just says it so dead seriously because that's how he is raised is what makes it hilarious.
“kinda a little bit cheesy, but I’m enjoying it” is a good way to describe how I feel about Phase 1 MCU. they definitely have that distinct late 2000s early 2010s feel
"I think I'm starting to see why Loki has his own show. He seems like a very interesting character." Oh, you don't know the half of it. Really enjoying your reactions so far. Welcome to this amazing world!
A note about the nametag on the t-shirt when Jane said "My ex"... Donald Blake was the name of Thor's human alter ego in the 1960s comics. So it was a nice touch having Thor run around in those clothes (and Selvig using that name to get him freed from SHIELD custody) while he was banished to Earth.
Yeah, I just said the same thing right before I saw you beat me to it, lol. It is a cool little deep-cut Easter egg. His alter ego was actually a frail, crippled human who was quite vulnerable and had to use a cane to get around. Of course the cane was really his hammer in disguise, and he'd have to tap it on the ground a certain way to change into Thor.
About Odinson being Thor’s name because he’s Odin’s son, that’s actually the origin of many surnames. Any name that ends with “son” or “sen” means “son of”, in Spanish it is surnames like mine that end in “ez” like Hernández means “son of Hernando”; Fernández, Benitez and so on; in Dutch names preceded by “Van” or “Von” which means “(coming) from” or any surname preceded by “Bar” which is the Arabic version of the Hebrew “Ben” which means “son of”.
@@kaiielle It's possibly the best series I've ever watched. No spoilers - but it gives an unflinching look at the real event. Jared Harris is also in it with a really impactful performance as well.
All of his sons are actors Alexander was in True Blood, Bill was is Pennywise in the recent It films, Gustav was in the Vikings show, Valter is the least famous as far as acting and his son Sam didn’t go into acting and his daughter Eija was a model and he has two more sons born after 2009, probably will be actors too lol.
@@kaiielle He is also one of the (many) highlights of Andor. The series have a big personnel overlap. Edit: Nevermind, I caught later that you already watched Andor on Patreon 👍
One of the great things about this movie is that they directly address the addition of the magic and fantasy aspect. It's a small thing but it really helps to make the universe feel more credible and cohesive rather than stitched together and out of place.
First Thor is definitely one of my favorite MCU movies of all time. All these years later Asgard still looks every bit as great as it did in 2011 and the whole movie has that unique charm to it. Seeing Hannibal Lecter as Odin for the first time was great. Anthony Hopkins did a fantastic job portraying this ancient and wise king and loving father figure. Stellan Skarsgard is a fantastic actor and elevates any movie he's playing in. Idris Elba as Heimdall was a fantastic pick, if a little bit on the nose as in Norse mythology Heimdall is described as "the whitest skinned of the gods", but in Thor he is literally the only black actor 😂 Now all that's left before the Avengers is Captain America- another one of my MCU favorites! Steve Rogers is a Paragon character done right. He has the backbone of high carbon steel and you can't help but root for him the whole movie.
I loved re-watching MCU in release order last year so I am always so pumped for your MCU Mondays! Thor is such a popcorn film. Fun and filling but definitely not a whole meal! Love Thor and Jane and Son of Coul!! His moments are brief but IMO scene-stealing/memorable in all the films you’ve seen. So unassuming and calm. Thanks!
Fantastic reaction! I can't wait for you to see where this all goes! It's great that you pay attention to the details because this will pay off as you continue the journey.
Excellent reaction and review!!! This was the first MCU movie that I saw in theaters and I loved it! As a kid in the 80’s and a teen in the 90’s, I grew up on cheesy swords and sorcerers fantasy films and television. The love for the fantasy genre carried on into adulthood for me. I am refreshed to hear that you appreciated Jane & Thor’s awkward and adorable relationship, not everyone in the fandom shares this opinion. I am always surprised when I hear people say that they have no chemistry as a couple, when all I see is chemistry 🤷♀️ As for Loki, “there are moments when I didn’t like him, but when I sit here and think about it…” Yep, that’s Loki. You have finally met my favorite MCU character!!! I will spoil things if I go to far into why Loki is my favorite, but you seem to see Loki’s intrigue as a character already. Hiddleston does a fantastic job of showing the many layers that make up Loki. I love in the final fight between the brothers, how Loki has tears in his eyes and eventually streaming down his face, when trying to goad Thor into fighting him. His scene with Hopkins in the vault is an amazing display of vulnerability and pain. You just want to hug him and tell him he is loved and worthy. I am so happy to have found your channel, you are a joy to watch and your insight is pretty spot on. Good stuff!!!
27:05, Boy if that isn't the look of a smitten kitten, I don't know what is! 35:15: Loki's with the tear and the hate speech--loved it--best villan acting award!!
Loki is the God of mischief, which makes him an anti-hero. He sometimes does good but he's always got a selfish reason for it that he may or may not make known. Like his elaborate plot to kill the frost king after letting him in so he would look good to Odin and Frigga.
The man who found the hammer, is J. Michael Strazinski. He had just revitalized Thor in the comics, and is the creator/producer/writer of Babylon 5, and writer of most of your favorite eighties cartoons.
Loki is an interesting and complex character, much of his backstory is taken directly from Norse mythology, tales that are a little over a thousand years old. His speech to Odin in the treasure vault when he discovers his true identity is so powerful! It is vicious but also true. His whole life has him set up to fail. Then during his fight with Thor at the end when he threatens to "pay her (Jane) a visit" is... dark. One of the most truly evil lines in the MCU so far.
Loki is one of the most loved character in mcu, even though he is a villain. Loki was shown more serious in this movie but you will find him more fun with each movie Tom Hiddleston acting as Loki is really great
That reaction to "you can't even protect your friends" 💯% on point! 😂😁 Loved it! My other favorite part is where lady sif and the others come to earth to find Thor. And the shield agents report if there was a Renaissance parade going on. Yeah base we got xena, Jackie Chan, and Robin hood 🤣☠️ As always, I love your take on each MCU movie. Much support much love. 👍😯📢 WOOOOOOO!
The Marvel Asgardians are based on real Norse mythology, implying that the myths are real due to Asgardians protecting Earth and being seen as gods by the Vikings. In the actual, real-world lore, Loki, the god of Mischief, is Thor's uncle, and Sif is Thor's wife, who has blonde hair. Loki shaves her bald as a prank, and Thor was so enraged that he threatened to beat Loki to a pulp. Loki swore he would make it right and had the Dvergr (dwarves) craft her a wig of spun gold, and also gifted Thor with 3 powerful artifacts so as to escape his ire: Megingjordr, the belt of giant strength; Jarngreipr, the steel gauntlets of might; and Mjolnir the Mullicrusher, a hammer of great power that would return to Thor's hand when thrown (he needed the gauntlets to be able to do so). The hammer was flawed, however; a mistake during it's forging saw the handle get shortened significantly so it couldn't be wielded with both hands, lessening its strength. Thor is boisterous, boastful, and has a great love of killing giants. He is called the Thunder God because the Vikings thought that thunderclaps during storms were the sound of Mjolnir striking Thor's enemies, protecting the people of Midgard (Earth). They also believed that rainbows were a bridge to the realm of the gods; the Bifrost, the Rainbow Bridge that is guarded by the all-seeing Heimdallr, keeper of the Gjallarhorn which will be blown to signal the coming of Ragnarok, the end of the world. My favorite myth is that of the Valkyrie Bride, where Mjolnir was stolen by the Jotun king Thrymr, in order to extort the Aesir (the gods) into giving him Freya, Queen of the Valkyries, as his bride. Loki came up with a plan to dress Thor up in a wedding dress and veil, and pretend to be Freya so they could get into the giant stronghold and take back the hammer, and it worked :D There's a Thor skin in the game Smite dedicated to this myth and it's amazing :)
It's interesting that you see the chemistry between Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth. I know I've seen many reactors who didn't seem to come away with that view. I'm the first to admit that I'm clueless when it comes to that type of analysis, but I always thought they had a good on screen rapport.
The first time I saw Stellan Skarsgard was in the 1998 movie "Ronin" starring Robert De Niro. That movie has my favorite car chase scene, and Skarsgard plays a violent mercenary with high computer skills. He is an incredible actor; that monologue in Andor was brilliant. He and many other fine actors, even in supporting roles, do help to make the MCU great.
I've been enjoying your MCU reactions very much, but what I want to say is that I totally agree with you about Andor!! One of the very best Star Wars movies or shows I have seen, and I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the show as well!
Just noticed the Jinjer shirt. I saw them live at a festival 3 weeks ago on my birthday. I was standing in line to get that shirt at the merch tent for 3 hours and got severely sunburnt because there were no clouds in the sky to shield us from the Australian sun. When I got to the front of the line they had run out of my size. I also caught covid at the festival but aside from all that the festival was great.
"Dr Donald Blake" is Thor's alter ego in the comics. Obviously he doesn't have one in the MCU, but he started out in the comics with a frail, crippled, human alter ego. His "cane" was his hammer in disguise and he'd tap it on the ground in a certain way to change into Thor. Tnat was all ret-conned and done away with a long time ago, but makes for a nice deep-cut little Easter egg.

Denmark and Scandinavian "Space Viking" here. This is not fantasy at all but ancient Nordic Mythology. A fun fact, Thursday is actually also named after Nordic Mythology, with Thursday meaning "Thor's Day". Coincidentally, Chris Hemsworth was actually born on a Thursday (Thor's Day).
@@agffans5725 Yeah, fantasy was def the wrong word choice, but to be fair I know next to nothing about Nordic Mythology so "fantasy" was just what came to mind!
@@kaiielle .. Most people know as little about Nordic Mythology as they know about Alien worlds, but I'm of the ancient tribe of Angels/Angles baptized in the church of kings. You know what you are supposed to know and there is nothing wrong about that, and you have nothing to worry or feel sorry about.
@@kaiielle .. Be aware, that if you go watch Thor: Ragnarok, then Ragnarok is not this movie fantasy, but the actual end of this World according ancient Nordic Mythology, and the name of the daughter of Odin and sister of Thor is not really Hela like in the movie but Hel, the Goddess of the underworld by the same name (that you know to be Hell).
Fun fact, the part where Odin just growls at Loki and Loki is like "sheesh" and backs off, was unscripted. Anthony Hopkins is such a good actor he improved the growl, and Tom (Loki)'s reaction was unscripted.
It is really interesting to see the different characters all coming into view. One of the things that is nice is that none of them are really... copies of one another, truly. But yeah, with Kenneth Brannagh directing it, it makes sense that this one felt quite so Shakespearean. He is, after all, very involved with that kind of work. His Much Ado About Nothing would be one worth watching.
As a nerd who started playing Dungeons and Dragons in 1980, I was familiar with Norse mythology before the MCU so Thor was especially fun for me to watch because I recognized the characters as they were introduced and appreciated little details like the quick shot of Sleipnir, Odin's eight-legged horse, when he intervened in Jotunheim. Even though I had read some of the comics in the 70s it was the mythology that made me familiar with everyone other than Thor and Loki. Glad you're enjoying the MCU so far, keep up the good work.
Although there are differences between Norse myths and the Marvel take. For instance, in the Norse mythology Loki is Odin's blood brother, Thor and lady Sif are married, Thor is a ginger and not the brightest of the gods, and so on. And the story of how Odin got Sleipnir is hilarious! XD (Little spoiler for those who doesn't know Norse mythology: Loki is Sleipnir's mother. Yes, mother. Go read about that, you won't regret. 😄)
I think your overall take is very much in line with the general consensus about Thor. Not the MCU's best movie, but certainly not bad. The injection of some myth and fantasy into the MCU is really fun. Chris Hemsworth really took ownership of the character after this and was instrumental in fleshing him out much more than this movie did. (Which, again, was not bad by any means, just more of a, I dunno, "stereotypical" arrogant hero arc.) Really enjoyed your reaction! (As I have with all of your Star Wars reactions as well)
I get your Isengard comment so much! Norse Mythology is what was used to base the story and character of Thor in marvel, and Tolkien when writing the Lord of the Rings was heavily inspired by Norse Mythology. This isn’t in the MCU, but there is a King Gandalf in Snorri’s History of the Danes. There’s a lot of characters that are in the Tolkien verse that have names similar if not the same. Such as a bunch of the Dwarves.
Thor is not my fav movie out of the mcu, that said, I think this was probably one of my favourite reactions. Your analysis and intelligent foresight and anticipation is a pleasure to behold. Cant wait to continue the journey with you.
Fun fact: Joss Whedon recommended Chris Hemsworth to Kenneth after working with him on “Cabin in the Woods" -a horror movie in the spirit of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer” Also, Tom Huddleston (Loki) auditioned for the role of Thor. His screen test is very entertaining. Oh, one last thing- there is an interesting piece about the soundtrack options during the 🎬 where Thor fought the destroyer! The score adds to the cheesy factor while also heightening the drama. ❤❤❤ love your channel!
(before watching) i love that you do this for 2 reasons, i love blind reactions to things i love, and it gives me an excuse to rewatch the whole thing, if i have any speceal thoughts after wacthing ill edit this but if i dont i look forward to be in this journey with you
When they discuss SHIELD after they came and took everything, Selvig drops a hint (when he mentions a pioneer in gamma research) that he may have known Bruce Banner, since that was part of how Bruce Banner became the Hulk.
I love Kenneth Branagh's film adaptations of the bard's work, (his 4 hour full Hamlet 1996 film is my favorite) so I really enjoyed his "Thor" and what he extracted from the actors performances. And it's funny, MCU-funny, lol. Your thoughts on it are very similar to mine. Hemsworth being there had "nothing" to do with Thor being my favorite MCU hero, lol Great reaction!
Kenneth Branagh has been in some great movies. If you have any interest in Shakespeare, Much Ado About Nothing is very amusing. Henry V And Hamlet of course. Just keep watching the MCU in release order. Knowing future titles can also work as spoilers. Great reaction!
I am aware of some of the titles coming as it's hard to avoid movie titles or other things, which is why I already know about Loki the show. But I don't look up casting for films or anything else prior to watching. What I say in my intro's about what I know usually is just what is in my mind from seeing things on Twitter, IG, etc. from over the years.
Hey Kaiielle, great reaction. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. As you said, it is a great introduction to the characters, with an all star cast. It was fun to see Thor kind of learn some humility and grow in wisdom. Loki is played wonderfully by Tom Hiddleston. Just know that Loki, in the old mythology, as well as in Marvel is a Trickster. He is the god of mischief, and he double crosses his triple crossed plans regularly. 😅 Also, no spoilers, the blue cube they showed in the post credit scene is what the Frost Giants used to come to Earth in Tsonsberg Norway 1000 years ago. You will learn a bit more about it as you progress in the MCU, which I am really looking forward to. Thanks for your videos. Have a great day.
I know you want no spoilers and comments about the films that being said a touch of reading on Norse mythology makes this part of the MCU much more rewarding.
This movie seems to have a mixed-negative reception among MCU fans, but for a long time it was one of my top 3 and I think it's still in my top 10. Director Kenneth Branagh's background making Shakespeare adaptations, to me, wisely allows the classically-trained Hopkins and Hiddleston, as well as Hemsworth, who is also good, to Act with a capital A ("But you're NOT king!" and "You are a vain, cruel boy!" are such delightfully over-the-top line readings), without making the film self-serious, finding exactly the right kind of arch dramatic note. I also, as a rom-com fan, LOVE the relationship between Jane and Thor, which from my estimation seems to be nearly universally hated by everyone else who has seen these movies. It helps that Hemsworth also has great comic chops (he's very funny in another unpopular movie I really like, the 2016 Ghostbusters remake), and, well, I have to admit I just have had a crush on Natalie Portman since I was a 15-year-old seeing The Phantom Menace back in 1999. I also think Darcy and Dr. Selvig are fun characters. My only complaint -- which they thankfully realized they do not need to do going forward (this is not a spoiler) -- is the way they dyed Hemsworth's eyebrows blonde. Also in the "no spoilers" category, without divulging any specifics, Loki is a character I think other people liked more than I did for a long time. Hiddleston is good, but the actual character didn't seem especially rich. The "Loki" show turned that all around for me -- it's actually my second-favorite entry in the entire MCU. Obviously, it's quite a ways off, but I am already looking forward to whenever that happens, and hopefully you get the same boost of appreciation starting from a higher level of existing enjoyment. Also, because I can't leave a comment without connecting a dot between today's reaction and an obscure movie that would do terribly on the channel, Stellan Skarsgard ("Dr. Selvig") is incredible in the 1997 Norwegian thriller Insomnia. You may have heard the title, as director Christopher Nolan remade it in 2002 with Al Pacino in the Skarsgard role, a project that led to him taking on the Batman movies.
The bleach job on Chris's eyebrows was awful LOL. Def agreed on the romance! It's cute and fun. I'm excited to get to Loki down the road. And thanks for the movie rec's! To your last point about looking up cast list, I only do it after I've finished watching the movie, never before.
You know, now that I think about it, I would pay good money, lots of good money, to see Hiddleston play Richard III. I can HEAR Loki saying 'Now is the winter of our discontent'. Eta: OH! Or Iago! Oh my god, all of that charisma channeled into Iago. 'And what's he then who says that I'm the villain?'
7:10 That's how a lot of common last names came to be. Peterson, son of Peter; Johnson, son of John; Williamson, son of William; Robertson, son of Robert; Davidson, son of David; Donaldson, son of Donald; etc. At some points in time, people in certain regions had only first names, like John. To distinguish between multiple people named John, they would refer to them as the son of their father. John, whose father was Peter, was John, son of Peter. John, whose father are Robert, was John, son of Robert. Customs changed and eventually they started using last names, which would be John Peterson and John Robertson.
Not sure if this was mentioned below or not since this was a year ago, but in your review you mentioned it was not good that Odin stole Loki from the frost giants. However, you have to remember they had cast him out onto the rocks to die since he was so small and frail compared to all the other frost giants. So technically Odin saved his life when he was an infant.
Having watched some playthroughs of God of War Ragnarok it's so strange coming back to MCU Thor. This is probably one of my personal favourites in the MCU :)
Tbh, Thor got off easy. He committed treason and put his entire planet in danger at an age when he should know better. A non-royal probably would've been executed. Odin's speech is my favorite part of the movie.
THANK YOU for recognizing and seeing what has always bothered me about Odin and the backstory with Loki - he DID STEAL Loki. I have always viewed it as a "political hostage" type of situation, where he was hoping to somehow use Loki as leverage against Laufey. Loki is my favorite MCU character, period, and he breaks my heart in this movie. All he wanted was to be accepted and loved by his father/family, even after he learned the truth. He wanted to be a hero to Odin, and he wanted to destroy EVERY TRACE of who he was as a frost giant - to erase the "monster" part of himself. It breaks me, every time.
@@lilblock3564 This is assuming that Odin was telling the truth. And we can't logically assume that, considering he was dishonest about so much else. When it comes to Odin telling the story of his family, he is VERY MUCH an unreliable narrator.
@@jala1551 Or maybe JUST maybe the frost giants are the bad guys... And they really did left Loki to die... Idk where you people get this hatred for Odin from, but it's silly.
@@lilblock3564 Maybe they did. We don't really know since all we have is Odin's retelling of the story - and he canonically hides things and lies about things regarding his family. (See: Ragnarok). You don't have to agree, my friend. But there's fairly solid canon basis for Odin being a LESS than stellar parent. As well as for the lies on which his family is built. Ragnarok is really where a lot of the negative impressions of Odin come from, where it's fairly clear that the story Thor and Loki were told their whole lives about their family is false at least in portions.
I expect Iron Man won't ALWAYS be your #1 but it may be one of your favorites for awhile. There's kind of... Like, staple favorites that just everyone loves who watch the MCU.
ALL of the story strands worked well & tied up at the end I thought The premise of this version of Norse mythology, is that , these beings existed, on another uncharted planet, instead of being in some...Scandivavian heaven, which works well, Azgard is beautifully envisioned here, & believable as a hybrid city both traditional & futuristic looking, there was the reminder of films like- FLASH GORDON , at times, but that couldnt be avoided, the...wardrobe/costumes were dignified enough I never thought they looked silly, & finally the dialogue was well written, they spoke in...SUPERMAN Krypton type fine wise language which also suited this type of film.
13:10 A little harsh? He went to another "country" and murdered several people out of revenge, pride, to invoke "fear." And he has brought war (leading to death for many others) to his own "country"
People like to dunk on this movie occasionally because of the conflicting tone issues, but if this movie did anything right, it's casting (as does most of the Marvel catalogue). Chris Hemsworth? Perfect. Tom Hiddleston? Could not be more perfect. Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, etc. etc.... Who knows how much the later movies might have suffered without the stellar cast that we did get.
The reason Åsgård is shown so little is because the budget was so low they couldn't keep that amount of CGI for the whole movie so almost all takes place on Midgard.
War is brutal innocent lives are taken Thor didn't see this and was casted out.. And for good reason, just like Odin said "A wise King never seeks out war but must always be ready for it".
Sure is! It's one of their Ukraine shirts that they released to raise funds for various charities to help out with Ukrainian citizens displaced or in need of assistance because of the Russian invasion. jinjer-merch.com/jinjer/we-want-our-home-back-t-shirt.html
my comments on reaction videos for marvel focus on the comics vs the movie. they did a great retcon from the comics where a human becomes thor, by giving him a fake name to get him out of the hospital. in comics, Donald Blake was the lame doctor who finds a cane in a cave in scandinavia, taps it on the ground, and becomes the shakespearean thor. its a horrible gimmick, which they downplayed later. they definitely kocked it out of the park with the majestic Asgard and the rainbow bridge. and chris hemsworth did a find job in this movie of capturing that bombastic style. he IS thor now, forever more. but the real star is Loki. i mean, talk about an anti hero. hes perfect, tom hiddleston is such a gem. Loki in Asgard is looking down on him and smiling a big shit eating grin.
I'm just gonna say this about the MCU: is called a "Universe" for a reason ;) You're a awesome reactor. your channel is one of my favorites, good work.
I am always scared to comment on these videos. Scared of accidental spoilers. However, I want to say that I am glad you are enjoying the cheesy of this movie. I enjoy that about it.
@kaiielle I am 27 years old. I remember going to the theaters to watch this movie with my dad. It has become a tradition to go see every movie in the MCU with him to this day. I hope you enjoy the journey. I will be here to watch you laugh at the cheesy jokes like "Son of Cole"
"Odinson" is not his family name. The concept of family name is a fairly modern invention. The son of Frank, in old times woukd be known with the last name of Frankson in many cultures. In some cultures the last name given would be the profession of that person, so if Frank were a baker, he would be called "Frank Baker" while if Frank were a builder of stone structures, he might be called "Frank Mason" So, it is zero surprise, and not even coincidence, Thor would be called Thor Odinson. I'm pretty sure Odin was about to proclaim Thor "heir" to the throne, not proclaim him king. Very rarely throughout history, has a monarch declared their heir to be monarch. Rather, they officially declare "this is the chosen to take the role, when my time comes." The family name error you made is clarified by Thor referring to Phil Coulsen "cole son" as "son of Cole"
Idk. I agree with Odin for the most part and his decision with Thor. Thor literally opened up all out war on multiple worlds because he couldn't just sit and wait. He needed to be taught a harsh lesson. Learn humility. Especially when it meant that he endangered innocent lives all over the Nine Realms.
I've seen it. You missed my point that it was more about wishing for a Luthen/Padme dynamic, with the addition of Mon Mothma to then make it an epic trio.
You gotta watch Captain America next- it's as important as Iron Man and Thor to the Avengers mythology. Agent Coleson is the human thread that let's the audience get a human perspective and the actor's deadpan delivery of lines makes him a fan favorite.
@@kaiielle Ah. As long as you get IM2, Thor and Cap in before the Avengers, the order of those can be however. After Avengers, it's more strict in contunity. I really think you're going to like Cap
Brilliant. As always. Do you have edited Andor reactions available on your Patreon service? I don't have the necessary equipment/set up to do the watchalongs (is that even a word?) so I'm limited to reactors that show the full movie/episode or edited reactions on RUclips but I'd love to see your Andor reactions and I have no qualms about paying for them...
Andor reactions are not edited, just the full-length watchalongs with the full thought/review dump at the end. Copyright law dictates that I cannot re-distribute the full movie/episode in my reactions, so what you get on my Patreon are the watchalongs. I leave the first 30-60 seconds of it up for syncing purposes and after that point the movie/episode is blurred and the audio is removed completely so you're left with my reaction. Reactors who show the full movie/episode in their full-length reactions are taking a risk by doing so. It's not one that I am willing to take, nor am I able to as I use RUclips to host all of my Patreon reactions. I personally use Picture-in-Picture mode to watch full-length reactions with because I can put my copy of the movie/show overtop of the reaction video that I'm watching and it's all on one screen.
@@kaiielle Thank you. I didn't think there would be edited versions, nor would I expect you to take unnecessary risks. 99% of all reactors use the same watchalong format. @@damaradona It's possible that one day in the future when I have editing help, I could end up putting some of the exclusive series on my channel in edited format, but that's just not something I can afford yet, so the watchalong format is my way of being able to react to more things that people ask for. And my review videos are the compromise to involve people who can't afford Patreon!

"Son of Coul" is such an underrated joke, I don't think I've ever see any one else pop for that line as hard as you did
I laughed so hard again while editing that moment. Easily my favourite joke in the entire movie. The way that Thor just says it so dead seriously because that's how he is raised is what makes it hilarious.
It's a perfect example of writing jokes from a character's perspective instead of just writing jokes in general.
Agreed. This was such a great line so befitting the character.

If you look at his "Driver's License" that Selvig had for "Thor" - it's the picture Darcy took of Thor at the restaurant!
@@minnesotajones261 Oh I missed that little detail!

Stellan Skarsgard is a fantastic actor. He's had some amazing roles over the years, but his performance in Chernobyl is next level greatness.
That's a show that is on The List to get into one day.
@@kaiielle It's possibly the best series I've ever watched. No spoilers - but it gives an unflinching look at the real event. Jared Harris is also in it with a really impactful performance as well.
All of his sons are actors Alexander was in True Blood, Bill was is Pennywise in the recent It films, Gustav was in the Vikings show, Valter is the least famous as far as acting and his son Sam didn’t go into acting and his daughter Eija was a model and he has two more sons born after 2009, probably will be actors too lol.
his oldest son played tarzan and his other actor son was the clown in it and was the guy who spit acid in deadpool 2 and will be in john wick 4
The first time I saw this, my eyes opened wide when I saw the guy with the bow.
32:19 ....."Son of Coul"..... All hail the mighty Phillip, son of Coul, the coolest and most reliable MCU character ever....
Idris Elba as Heimdall was a fantastic pick, if a little bit on the nose as in Norse mythology Heimdall is described as "the whitest skinned of the gods", but in Thor he is literally the only black actor 😂
Now all that's left before the Avengers is Captain America- another one of my MCU favorites!
Steve Rogers is a Paragon character done right. He has the backbone of high carbon steel and you can't help but root for him the whole movie.
You don't have to be strong to pick up the hammer, you only must be worthy.
Thanks!
Thanks for watching Zel! Glad you're enjoying it.
What’s crazy is that “HEY” from Odin to Loki was totally real for Tom. He actually jumped like that when Odin raised his voice
I am always surprised when I hear people say that they have no chemistry as a couple, when all I see is chemistry 🤷♀️
As for Loki, “there are moments when I didn’t like him, but when I sit here and think about it…” Yep, that’s Loki.
This is my favorite Thor movie. It has the right mix of humor, drama, and action
Almost nothing of his backstory is taken from lore lol
Wtf you talk about? lol
Loki is one of the most loved character in mcu, even though he is a villain. Loki was shown more serious in this movie but you will find him more fun with each movie
Tom Hiddleston acting as Loki is really great
So nice that Odin cared enough to be concerned for an abandoned child. Loki would not have survived if Odin had ignored the baby's plight.
Saw this day one and to this day "son of Cole" still gets me.
It's still one of my favourite lines out of all the MCU so far and I'm now 14 movies in. 🤣
Most if not all of the Lore is from Norse mythology. It's good that Stan Lee and others brought it into Marvel.
That reaction to "you can't even protect your friends" 💯% on point! 😂😁 Loved it! My other favorite part is where lady sif and the others come to earth to find Thor. And the shield agents report if there was a Renaissance parade going on. Yeah base we got xena, Jackie Chan, and Robin hood 🤣☠️
As always, I love your take on each MCU movie. Much support much love. 👍😯📢 WOOOOOOO!
I cut out that line the SHIELD agents said, but that was a great one too! And thank you!
We enjoyed this movie Kaiielle :) great reaction
Thanks friends! ❤️
It's interesting that you see the chemistry between Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth. I know I've seen many reactors who didn't seem to come away with that view. I'm the first to admit that I'm clueless when it comes to that type of analysis, but I always thought they had a good on screen rapport.
I am always intrigued by romances in films/TV series, and love to talk about them!
I love watching people react to the MCU! Enjoy!
BTW, love the Jinjer shirt!
🤘🏽😈🤘🏽
I never know if they did Samuel Jackson a favour or dirty when they got him to say 'unlimited power' here.
My thinking exactly.
Great reaction. MCU Monday's are the best. Love the PSA. Keep up the great reaction videos. Can't wait for the next one. 😊
Thanks for watching Thor with me! Please remember to keep all spoilers of the future MCU media out of your comments, including expectation spoilers! I appreciate your cooperation with this to give me a wonderful first experience with this franchise! 💛KL

@@agffans5725 im from iceland so im know lot about this so word ''fantasy'' was weird to hear hehe
Fun fact, the part where Odin just growls at Loki and Loki is like "sheesh" and backs off, was unscripted. Anthony Hopkins is such a good actor he improved the growl, and Tom (Loki)'s reaction was unscripted.
I just can’t get over how much of the movie was in a Dutch angle for no reason
His St. Crispin's Day speech is amazing.
@@crapstirrer Better than Olivier's, imo, but I'm biased, lol.
I love your Jinjer shirt!! 🖤🖤🤘🤘
Also, no spoilers, the blue cube they showed in the post credit scene is what the Frost Giants used to come to Earth in Tsonsberg Norway 1000 years ago. You will learn a bit more about it as you progress in the MCU, which I am really looking forward to. Thanks for your videos. Have a great day.
Totally out of left field comment, but I love the Jinjer t-shirt! Huge fan here. Back to the movie.......
Loki is my favorite mcu charecter
I know you want no spoilers and comments about the films that being said a touch of reading on Norse mythology makes this part of the MCU much more rewarding.
Maybe one day well into the future! Unfortunately do not have the time to dig into that.
I would add that even looking at IMDb cast lists before the movies might be an iffy proposition.
It’s not about power with the hammer it’s about being worthy the curse was “who so ever holds this hammer be worthy”
There are still several countries where patronymics are commonly used. Fitz-, O'-, -ovich are examples for sons, -dotter, -ova for daughters.
Love the Jinjer shirt.
19:46 I don't know if you picked up on it but Dr. Selvig was talking about Dr. Bruce Banner aka The Hulk
Fun Fact: This is the first MCU film in which Tony Stark does NOT make a physical appearance, though he is mentioned.
"BUT YOU'RE NOT KING! Not yet."
Loved your reaction to this movie, can't wait to see your reaction to the 1st Avengers movie for sure 😀
I love the Jinjer shirt! The Ukrainian colors are a great touch
It is one of two of their Ukraine shirts that they released for fundraising shortly after Ukraine was invaded. Had to get both to support. ❤️
Funny you mentioned white walkers George RR Martin took a lot of inspiration from Norse mythology and integrated it into his writing
I remember Anthony Hopkins from the movie Freejack.
He was abandoned.. If Odin did not take him he would be dead..
Someone asked 1 time a long time ago why they dyed his eyebrows, now I can’t stop looking at them anytime I watch this movie.
ALL of the story strands worked well & tied up at the end I thought
The premise of this version of Norse mythology, is that , these beings existed, on another uncharted planet, instead of being in some...Scandivavian heaven, which works well, Azgard is beautifully envisioned here, & believable as a hybrid city both traditional & futuristic looking, there was the reminder of films like- FLASH GORDON , at times, but that couldnt be avoided, the...wardrobe/costumes were dignified enough I never thought they looked silly,
& finally the dialogue was well written, they spoke in...SUPERMAN Krypton type fine wise language which also suited this type of film.
13:10 A little harsh? He went to another "country" and murdered several people out of revenge, pride, to invoke "fear." And he has brought war (leading to death for many others) to his own "country"
the Loki series, its a long way before you watch that..just be patient..you'll get there..nice reaction..
It would be pretty weird if Thor missed Jane more than Loki seeing as he new Jane for less than a week and Loki for centuries
Love that t shirt. Is it a jinjer band t shirt

Hi Kaiielle! Loving your MCU reactions. Just wanted to say to avoid looking at IMDB cast lists as well. They contain tons of spoilers from here out
I only look at the cast list AFTER I've watched the movie. ☺️ I never look it up beforehand for any film.

Thor is my real middle name... true story!
Another fun fact: in all the kissing scenes Natalie Portman is standing on a rather large box, as she's about 1.5ft shorter than Liam.
Nice shirt!
my comments on reaction videos for marvel focus on the comics vs the movie. they did a great retcon from the comics where a human becomes thor, by giving him a fake name to get him out of the hospital. in comics, Donald Blake was the lame doctor who finds a cane in a cave in scandinavia, taps it on the ground, and becomes the shakespearean thor. its a horrible gimmick, which they downplayed later. they definitely kocked it out of the park with the majestic Asgard and the rainbow bridge. and chris hemsworth did a find job in this movie of capturing that bombastic style. he IS thor now, forever more. but the real star is Loki. i mean, talk about an anti hero. hes perfect, tom hiddleston is such a gem. Loki in Asgard is looking down on him and smiling a big shit eating grin.
Wait to watch the Loki series until after Avengers Endgame or it could spoil other movies between.
I'm just gonna say this about the MCU: is called a "Universe" for a reason ;)
You're a awesome reactor. your channel is one of my favorites, good work.
For a good Stellan Skarsgard film King Arthur (2004) great cast as well in that film
I am always scared to comment on these videos. Scared of accidental spoilers. However, I want to say that I am glad you are enjoying the cheesy of this movie. I enjoy that about it.
Any comment about the reaction itself is always welcome! ☺️ Thank you!
@kaiielle I am 27 years old. I remember going to the theaters to watch this movie with my dad. It has become a tradition to go see every movie in the MCU with him to this day. I hope you enjoy the journey. I will be here to watch you laugh at the cheesy jokes like "Son of Cole"
OMG, how dare Thor, the Golden Child be lied to. Loki's been lied to his ENTIRE LIFE, that's nothing.
"Odinson" is not his family name. The concept of family name is a fairly modern invention. The son of Frank, in old times woukd be known with the last name of Frankson in many cultures. In some cultures the last name given would be the profession of that person, so if Frank were a baker, he would be called "Frank Baker" while if Frank were a builder of stone structures, he might be called "Frank Mason"
So, it is zero surprise, and not even coincidence, Thor would be called Thor Odinson.
I'm pretty sure Odin was about to proclaim Thor "heir" to the throne, not proclaim him king. Very rarely throughout history, has a monarch declared their heir to be monarch. Rather, they officially declare "this is the chosen to take the role, when my time comes."
The family name error you made is clarified by Thor referring to Phil Coulsen "cole son" as "son of Cole"
Yessss please watch the tv series you mentioned
Idk. I agree with Odin for the most part and his decision with Thor. Thor literally opened up all out war on multiple worlds because he couldn't just sit and wait. He needed to be taught a harsh lesson. Learn humility. Especially when it meant that he endangered innocent lives all over the Nine Realms.
I think you might be the only person I have seen that has actually caught the "Son of Coul" joke.
I'm so sad! That was the best joke in the movie!!
Padme did work with Mon Mothma in Revenge of the Sith. Check the deleted scenes.
I've seen it. You missed my point that it was more about wishing for a Luthen/Padme dynamic, with the addition of Mon Mothma to then make it an epic trio.

It wouldn't be an issue if I had a PC or laptop. At least I'll be able to binge everything when I do finally get one - something to look forward to 🙃
@@damaradona It's possible that one day in the future when I have editing help, I could end up putting some of the exclusive series on my channel in edited format, but that's just not something I can afford yet, so the watchalong format is my way of being able to react to more things that people ask for. And my review videos are the compromise to involve people who can't afford Patreon!
@@kaiielle I understand completely. It's interesting to learn that you do your own editing as I find it to be one of the highlights of your channel - one of many - and I can appreciate how much work you have to put in. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I'll be joining your Patreon channel this weekend anyway, just to give a little something back and hopefully make it a teeny bit easier for you to continue providing us all with even more quality content ✌️
