I have had the sprue cutters for about 10 months and they are every bit as good as you describe and importantly still are after a decent amount of use.
Bought the Xuron HO track cutter and a sprue cutter over 20 years ago. Abused and still cutting. Just bought the pro sprue and pro photo etch and a few others. My advice is to download the guide from Xuron to determine which cutter(s) you need. For example, don't use the sprue cutter for wire. I am not sure the damage caused by cutting music wire or oversized wire with the sprue cutters is covered under the warranty. Xuron sells an excellent cutter just for wire. You get no burring, and the wire doesn't go flying away as it shears apart. Now that I have newer cutters, I may send the abused ones to Xuron...perhaps they can re-grind and hone the blades? I'll take before and after pics.
great review paul - I have these (both) - however I use the the Tamiya 74035 cutters these are unbeliveably good the Xuron ech cutters are fantastic though
Been using these cutters for about five years now and they're superb ain't anything out there that come close, also they are great for cutting toe nails!
I've always had the Tamiya Sharp Pointed Side Cutters (Old Part: 74035, New Part No: 74123) which are very comparable to these Xuron's. Have you ever tried those? The Photo Etched Cutters look the business though! Good review!
I have the same Xuron sprue cutters and love them. If you're in North America we can get a better price, $25can (about $20usd) at sunward hobbies, probably about the same at most NA suppliers.
Use the Xuron flush cut shear #2175. Actually best for this application. They last about 20 years. I have two. The older one I use for just wire cutting now.
+International Scale Modeller Did you get a new pair of your old cutters and try them for 2 weeks as well? I bought the exact same pair of cutters a couple of years apart and the difference was massive just because of how much I had used the old ones.
Thank you! Apologies that I only just found this review. Hope you're still enjoying the tools!

You're comparing new to old tools, of course the new tool is sharper.. Not a fair comparison.
+Lord of midgets No, the Xurons are MUCH better cutters - Full stop!
