Your Rye will make it thru summer. I have PRG in my front yard. It’s been 100s everyday last week in CA and no rain since June.
@@colnathanrjessup687 almost 2k , 2 inches atleast as of late, about $120-$140 . Did it as an experiment looks fantastic I love how it looks compared to all the other Tall fescue lawns. Def stands out
Good luck! Not sure this one will work out so well but if anyone can make it happen I'd bet on you! Grey leaf spot and drought just destroy pure perennial ryegrass in Maryland and you're even further South.

This is almost exactly how I have done my parents reno. Only difference is a did a little top burning with a torch. I'm in ajax Ontario canada. I figure all the goodies in soil will break everything down and after winter I should be good. Time will tell. Going to finish video now.

@Pete You should get with Garden Weasel and develop one of those cultivators that is like 36 inches wide and have them call it a seed to soil tool or something like that. I did a 10,000k ft reno with my neighbor. We had 2 garden weasels, but it took a long time to work the seed in. I bet they'd listen to you :)
New Ryegrass Species this year tolerated a complete drought this year with only 2 rainfalls the whole summer.
I'm using a mix of Barenbrug's Rye and Fescue on my backyard this year, excited to see how it turns out. Majority of the crop seed contamination in grass seed is annual rye.
I bought a bag once that specified 9 seeds per pound of noxious weeds: annual rye. I couldn't help but think "If you know that specifically, why can't you sort it out?"
My area must have got the storms that missed you. Had 4” of rain in 48 hours all pretty much in 3 big rains. Excellent time to have seed in the ground 🤦🏻♂️

I suspect as long as you're watering it like you do the KBG it should hold up through the summer. 🤞🏻I already got my GCI PRG and I can't wait to see how it turns out. Of course it's pretty easy to keep green all year long here in the Pacific Northwest. 👊🏼

I'm not sure if the disappointment with the viewer seed suggestion stems from what I wrote but I just checked the tag on the bag of Paragon-2 GLR I have and it didn't have any weed seed or other crop seed listed on the tag. It was all the good stuff and a little bit of Inert Material.. So I really hope you picked something different.
I’m going to guess that you got the Rye from SS. You are going to see quite a bit of that “other crop.” I bought some of their Grandslam last year and a ton of annual ryegrass came up.
One of those sections for sure isn't from SS. The only reason I know is because I gave it to him to try out and didn't buy it from them lol

id bet that pine straw would work to cover the seed similar to straw... but easier to remove and or rake up then the straw. I can't find Pete moss in my area and im not a fan at all of using straw. curious if that pine straw would work

Man Pete you think thats bad for weeds and other crop go look at a bag of grass seed at lowes or homedepot its like a little over or around 1% I believe even Scotts brand is like that

Really curious how this goes. I just threw down the barenbrug rtf fescue seed.
I know you experiment a lot with cool season grasses.... Which is cool (no pun intended) since I dont see many of those. here where I live in north Florida....
But have you thought about experimenting with some warm season grasses???? We grow mostly St Augustine here. I know you cant seed that and that may be a problem for you depending on if you have sod suppliers that carry it. But I would love to see some experimentation with grasses I can actually grow.
I have Bermudagrass at my shop. As soon as I get more space I’ll have all the warm season grasses as well

Hey Pete I overseed my Bermuda with annual rye every year here in Florida and this year I want to over seed with something I can reel mow. I can’t find any thing about cutting annual rye low. Is there a grass you’d recommend?
Perennial rye is all I know of but be aware it can be devastating to your Bermudagrass

Pete no offense but you're going to find out with elite ryegrass that it is way better in heat then KBG, some varieties on par with tall fescue
No offense taken but that will need to be proved to me. 😂. Around here the first 90 degree day and rye begins a fast downhill decent. This is using some of the best varieties on the market.
I like rye grass, but it dies off too easily from foot traffic and goes dormant quickly from heat. My KBG on the other hand can take a beating and bounces right back. It also does surprisingly well in the heat. That's just my experience though in northern IN.
I've done my whole yard in cool blue my wife sits there every morning drinking her coffee n says I cannot believe this grass lol...couldnt of done it without ur videos or seed.... next year I want to try tje front from scratch (it's only 500sq ft) in all rye or KBG try a putting green I'm fairly new to this but with you on my side I feel confident ..GOD BLESS U AND THE FAM PETE ! Doing 4 has to be better than the 12 or 16 squares you did of the kbg. When I saw what you had to do to equally square everything out... man I'm glad I didn't have to do that. But of course you're the one with the company and RUclips channel. Those 4 plots looked a lot more doable to me. Have a great Labor Day, Pete/everyone!

I used barenbrug turf star rpr. Which one did you use Pete?
that's what I over seeded with last came out real nice this year I did there hgt (kgb)/rpr 80/20 mix with extra rpr added cause I liked how fast it came in last year
@@davelock7201 I bought a 50 pound bag of turf blue hgt and a 50 pound bag of turf star rpr. At my house I have 135 square feet and this is day 9 for the kbg and its coming up decently. At my parents place I have about 5000 square feet in 2 different areas. On their boulevard I will use the rye and the backyard will be kbg. I hoping to get it down this weekend.
Pete, would you ever, or have you ever, considered a mix between the three: KBG, TTTF, & Rye? Or is it best to just stick with one?
A LOT of yards are blends including Pete's main yard which is a blend of TTTF and KBG. Makes for a thick, dark turf that has some healing properties from the bluegrass.
A 3way is Mix if fine. You’ll see that when I post the video of me seeding my yard 😮
