  • last week I recorded some improvisations on the organ after an improvisation session with a singer. I almost accidently began using the mixolydian scale in A (instead of G). for those of you who don't know what the mixolydian scale is, it's what you get when you play in G-major but you use only the white keys. That way your seventh is lowered by a half step. I would describe the resulting mood as a major, optimistic, happy, but with a much more firm, grounded and realistic basis. That is why I called this improvisation Vox Spei, "the voice of hope". To me the discovery of these gregorian modes means a broadening of my arsenal of emotional expressions and I would encourage all of you: classicals, undergrounds and everyone in between to rediscover these scales.
The Vox part is also a nod to the voiciness of the tremolo effect that I tried to create with the Gamba 8 pulled out halfway. I like to create a human sound with the organ because of its close resemblance to ourselves... one to think about...
Sorry for the clipping sound. the cam mic accidentally had increased sound input 😬
    enjoy!
