Thank you sir for this video. Definitely had to cut and take out the engine mounts on the passenger side to make it work. Jacking it up was the only way. I really appreciate the instruction.
Thanks for the video! 2008 Duramax here. Guessing it's slightly different. Got it out by removing the exhaust clamp and prying the lower exhaust back and out towards the outside of the vehicle and dropped the starter out the bottom. Not much room! It was harder forcing the new starter back in.
Got mine replaced this weekend. Thanks for the tips! I didn't need to cut the bracket. Dropped the exhaust down as far as it would go and then some, and a floor jack under the trans like you showed, made *just* enough room to sneak it towards the back of the truck between the disconnected exhaust pipes, then pulled it out through the wheel well. Now to put the exhaust back together...
