Thank you so much, Peta! Your color alongs are wonderful. I always learn so much! I kept track of all of the colors used in this installment in case it is useful for anyone. In the order they are presented in the tutorial: 9201-103 Ivory 9201-102 Cream 9201-109 Dark Chrome Yellow 9201-113 Orange Glaze 9201-225 Dark Red 9201-101 White 9201-156 Cobalt Green 9201-153 Cobalt Turquoise 9201-219 Deep Scarlet Red 9201-107 Cadmium Yellow 9201-194 Red Violet 9201-249 Mauve 9201-188 Sanguine In numerical order: 9201-101 White 9201-102 Cream 9201-103 Ivory 9201-107 Cadmium Yellow 9201-109 Dark Chrome Yellow 9201-113 Orange Glaze 9201-153 Cobalt Turquoise 9201-156 Cobalt Green 9201-188 Sanguine 9201-194 Red Violet 9201-219 Deep Scarlet Red 9201-225 Dark Red 9201-249 Mauve
I was looking for a place to start but didn't have a clue, complete novice here!! Now I know where to begin!! Thank you so much for your tutorials they are so helpful for a beginner like me!!
I wondered, like the commenter below, if you wouldn't mind sharing your background music choices with us? Your choice of music with the review/demonstration video of the 8 pencil brands was great, too. Thanks for your great videos! As a non-artist I'm impressed with the amount of thought that goes into your coloring. I'm newly inspired to try your techniques, even if my results aren't as lovely as yours. Your voice, the music, and watching you color are so relaxing. Thank you, Peta.
Thank you Peta. I love your videos they are awesome. I always learn so much from them. I really enjoyed this tutorial and the duck pond. I purchased Faber Castell Polychromos. I have had them for several months and they just sit. I found myself so comfortable with the Prismacolors that I was a bit intimidated with the FC pencils. Your videos were quite helpful in teaching colors to combinations and blending. Thanks for all you bring and share with all of us.
Just recently coloured this one with my grandaughter. Love the colours you are using for the border and will try them out with another picture. My grandaughter also asked me to do the fish opposite in a rainbow, so of course I did it that way. It's the most colourful fish I've ever done but she likes it, which is ok. So very glad to see you back with another colour along, I look forward to these so much
Thank you so much for putting in a box that tells the name of the colors in each section! As always, your color choices are beautiful! Can't wait for the next installment!
Thank you for your time to answer my question. I've been putting a little more emphasis on the lines for interest and depth. Please keep up the great work you and your husband are doing. Many people are being blessed and helped with this kind of therapy. God bless.♡
I'm so excited! YAY a color along! WOO HOO! AND it happens to be a book I have! It was awesome. I don't have polychromos pencils I have prismacolor instead but I tried to make color choices as close to your selections as possible. It still looks good. I love how you're losing the colors now. That makes it easier to follow. I can hardly wait til the next installment. THANK YOU, PETA! 😀💕💖
Your color alongs are absolutely wonderful. I thank you so so much for sharing your talent and knowledge of color with us your subscribers. Of course, I always hope there will be more coming from you. I've been hoping you would do the jellyfish because I love the colors you choose.
As soon that your post for this Jelly Fish colour along I grabbed my Prismacolour pencils and followed along. I love the result and can't wait for your next installment. I am hooked!
I startet watching your videos at the end of last year and I really like the improvements you've made to your videos. Like showing the names of the colors you will use on parts of the pictures.
Lovely work!! This video reminded me that it's ok to leave white areas when coloring. I seem to get stuck in the mind frame that you have to fill every little section with color. But the white areas actually make the other colors pop! Thank you for such a great video
I've been using Prismacolors for a little while but I kept watching you color with the polychromos and I just had to try them. I bought a small set of 12 and they are really lovely to work with. So much easier than with the Prismas and you can tell the difference in the quality of the pencil just by holding it. I just ordered a set of 60 of the Polychromos from Amazon and then I'll get a few at a time to get them all.
Hi Peta :) I just cannot get enough of your work, you are brilliant in everything you do and you give me so much inspiration!! It is my birthday next week and my daughter just bought me "Lost Ocean" as my birthday present. I am busting to start it, but my son said he will buy me some Polychromos pencils as a birthday gift. After all your recommendations, I wouldn't go with anything else. I do remind him daily it is my birthday coming up, because being male, he is likely to forget! I have just been watching your jellyfish video and I am torn between starting that or the tiny million billion shell picture (As I describe it) Somehow however, I doubt that will be 'relaxing or soothing'. Please keep up the good work Peta, and as a fellow Aussie, it is great to hear an Aussie accent in the tutorials :)
Since I'm getting the 150 set of Prismas from my husband, I've decided to splurge and buy the 120 set of the Polychromos pencils. I'm excited to try them. I have a decent collection of Prismas already but none of these.
This is amazing, Peta. Thanks for your wonderful tutorials. Do you have a tutorial for the double page spread on the previous page to the jellyfish, or could you share a photo of it for us to use for inspiration, please?
this appeals to me will definitely be doing it after I finish the magical city color along, my book finally arrived. his as an aside I only have the 24 inktense. is the Paine's gray a part of the 36 set you have or one bought as an extra. thank you!
Ah, I see, Tammie. Payne's grey is actually a colour pigment that is used same across the range of different art supplies and different manufacturers. I have Payne's grey in both Inktense and Polychromos as well as in my Schmincke watercolours
Hi Peta, I've been using Stabilo fineliners as another medium, because I cannot get my pencils sharp enough, however, they do not blend or shade very well. Do you have any advice?
This is my first attempt with my new Lost Ocean coloring book. I had the misfortune of the ivory making the black outlines bleed, so I just went with one of the oranges to cover it up...no biggie. ;) I also have to use a magnifying glass to see what I am doing - lol, and this takes quite a bit of patience, but the process is rather therapeutic. :)
Hey! I love your videos and would love to improve my coloring skills but I don't have access to the Faber-Castell pencils so would Crayola pencils be just as good to use?
hello i like your videos i am from venezuela and only have colors prismacolor premier i not faber polycroms friend would i like to know be equivalence in prismacolor .. thank you
Great Choice as you can download this page from Johanna's Staedtler page - a.staedtlercdn.com/fileadmin/user_upload/images/inhalt/Inspiration/Adult-colouring/Johanna-Basford-colouring-sheet-Lost-Ocean.pdf?1446449891 This is a great one to play around with different options before you commit it to the book
Thank you Mike. i didn't know that. That's also wonderful for people who don't own the book or have already completed the picture but want to do the tutorial.
Just an FYI for those using Prismacolor Premier soft core colored pencils:( I have the full set of 150 of the prismas)... Because there is only a cream (PC914) color and no ivory (there is eggshell PC140, Gingeroot PC1084 and Putty Beige PC1083 among many other "beiges" but they aren't light enough or an "ivory" at all really... at least not like the Faber Castell Polychromos)... But because there is no "Ivory" in the Prisma line, I find the 10% French Grey (PC1068) is a great alternative to the FC Polychromos "Ivory". I don't know if its in any of the smaller sets of Prismas... like say the set of 132, 72, etc. But it's def. in the full set of 150 like I have. Maybe if You have a smaller set that doesn't include the 10% French Grey (PC1068), then you could buy it separately or open stock. Of course, if you're going to buy an extra pencil.. you could just buy the FC Polychromos "Ivory". But if you prefer Primas... The 10% French Grey works great as a substitute to the FC Polychromos Ivory. Anyone using Primas and would like to know a substitute for any other FC Polychromos color... feel free to ask and I can find one for you in the Primas set. Of course, Polychromos has some colors that are def. not in the full set of prismas and vise versus. But there's always a substitute that will work just fine... just like the 10% French Grey works as a great Ivory. Its not as warm as the Polychromos Ivory but it works just fine. Thanks again for another great color-along, Peta! I don't see how you do it all. You and your husband both have full time jobs and yet you still find time to make such great and informative videos for all your fans. And you a nurse, no less who is on her feet all day long. I can hardly find time to color and I am a stray-at-home Mom! I have to make time just to do it. I don't see how you do it all but I truly appreciate it. Your videos are one of my favorite things to do everyday and I so look forward to them. especially your color-alongs! Coloring is relaxing but its even more relaxing when you color-along with such a great artist/colorist. And you learn so much from your videos! I have come so far since discovering your videos about 8 months ago. Thank you so much for keeping the videos and your website up on top of everything else you have going on. I don't see how you do it all but Thank you very much!
Do what I did, buy both sets and create a chart. Of course you will have favorites that only one set or the other offers, but jump on it. My art tutor/teacher loved Derwent products, so I bought all of them only to find it is not open stock in the USA. LOVE, love, love the Inktense pencils.
Hello, Peta. I love your videos and helpful hints and tutorials. You say that you are doing the left and top edge of the border first since you are right handed, etc.; however, I am a beginner, and I am afraid if I only did a portion of the border and came back to it at the end, I don't think I would remember exactly what colors I used and also what exact technique I used. Should I leave the border for the end and do the entire border at one time? Do you make notes of the colors you used or do you just remember? What are your thoughts? By the way, I prefer to remove the page that I am working on and when completed, I mat them onto colored cardstock and put them in a 12 x 12 scrapbook. That's just my preference. I don't do well dealing with the book spine, etc. Thank you for your input. Deanna
Deanna, I am the same with memory. I keep a tiny notebook for each page I color and all the Prismacolors I used - with a swatch of color, name & number. Unplanned bonus is that I can refer to it for future color combos without having to 'reinvent the wheel'. For instance I have colored so many leaves and now I can check which 3 greens I liked and want to do again.
Thanks, Jill. I guess I need to start doing something like that especially since I rarely finish a pic before moving on to another one. I think it's fairly common to have several pics going at one time. I have the Dagdrommar book on back order on amazon and I want to be prepared when doing pics out of that book and not just use random colors, etc. Thanks again.
I just love your coloring videos .They are so relaxing. The music that you use with the speeded up portions is wonderful. .i would like to support you but I can't make a monthly comment. How can I make a one time support.
Hi Clare. there is a donate button on my RUclips channel page on the right hand side which is good for one off donations. But if you use it please let me know as the donation does not specify where it came from to me. Thank you very much for offering to support me, I really appreciate it.
Hi! I just found your channel and I love it! You make it look like I could do it haha. I was wondering if the paper you put in between the pages was to stop color transfer? I usually use markers but am really loving the effect of pencils except I keep getting transfer onto the opposite page. I don't really have a heavy hand either. Do you have any tips?
the paper on the back side is for ink transfers and indents in the pages when you are coloring you are pressing down. If you have a dollar tree get some of the plastic cutting pad. comes with two in the pack. perfect for markers.
Peta, you always have such great insight into the colors you choose. Such inspiration for the rest of us. I was wondering, what are the broken lines in some of Joanna books? They usually are on leaves or sides of things. Are they for enhanced shading or whatever we choose? Just curious. .. PS, you are a wonderful teacher.
Hi Debbie. i think Johanna puts those in to add more texture and interest to her line art. I think it's up to you as the colourist to interpret them any way you feel.
Super inspiring Peta. Thank you. Just a quick question, are you using the Staedtler Mars pencil sharpener? or have you found another you are happy with?
I'm so obsessed with your work it's just beautiful😍 I would love to see your review on imagimorphia as I saw some pictures you have already coloured on Instagram and they're gorgeous!x
Wow, an amazing color along as always! Just wondering since we need such a fine point for the pencils to use in the tiny bits what sharpener(s) do you prefer? Thanks for all your valuable tutorials! I just love your work!!!!
Yes it is. Final render of the video is happening right now. I have to check it before I upload it. If there are no errors I'll load it up in the morning.
not ordinary photocopy paper... it's horrible to colour on in my opinion. I like to use card stock. You would be best asking at an art shop in your area for a good paper to use in the printer to colour on as they are hundreds of different types and I don't know what you will have available in your area.
+Peta Hewitt oh no no no! Don't be sorry! I was happy to see that you coincidentally chose the same one I did as well! I found it "lol" and felt happy. I should be the one saying sorry because I should have said more as I am reading my comment I can see where it could be taken differently. My apologies. I love your work and I must have missed these uploads on patreon but I always hit YT first for some reason even after a few days off Internet. Please don't take it that way. I was happy we had something in common with something so mere to selecting the same page from a book to color.
Thank you so much, Peta! Your color alongs are wonderful. I always learn so much!

Thank you, so helpful👍🏻
Thank you!!
I just started this one, 7 years after your tutorial! Thank you
I was looking for a place to start but didn't have a clue, complete novice here!! Now I know where to begin!! Thank you so much for your tutorials they are so helpful for a beginner like me!!
even when I don't have the coloring book you are demonstrating in, I learn so much from your video tutorials. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for doing another color along in one of Johanna Basford's books. So much fun and learning so much from your demonstrations.
Watched this while cooking Cincinnati Chili for the Fourth of July. It's about the same time frame so thanks for keeping me entertained.
Thank you Peta. I love your videos they are awesome. I always learn so much from them. I really enjoyed this tutorial and the duck pond. I purchased Faber Castell Polychromos. That was my hubby's doing. We're using a different software package that allows him to do this easily. I'll pass on your thanks to him. :)
Thank you for your time to answer my question. I've been putting a little more emphasis on the lines for interest and depth. Please keep up the great work you and your husband are doing. Many people are being blessed and helped with this kind of therapy. God bless.♡

Please keep up the good work Peta, and as a fellow Aussie, it is great to hear an Aussie accent in the tutorials :)
Brilliant as always! I truly love your work Peta, you inspire me to keep up my colouring ❤
Peta, you have the best tutorials!
Your color alongs are the ABSOLUTE best!!! I don't have that book but I'm sure there is a jellyfish in one of tgese books that I have lol
Great tutorial, as always!!! Can't wait for part 2~!!!
I'm excited to see how it's gonna come out
These are awesome Peta
Since I'm getting the 150 set of Prismas from my husband, I've decided to splurge and buy the 120 set of the Polychromos pencils. I'm excited to try them. I have a decent collection of Prismas already but none of these.
This is amazing, Peta. Thanks for your wonderful tutorials. Do you have a tutorial for the double page spread on the previous page to the jellyfish, or could you share a photo of it for us to use for inspiration, please?
Grateful for your teachings! I’ve learned so much!
Loved this video...will get busy on it!!!
Just love your colour alongs ☺️
Big Thank's Peta, may i asked you what is the background music is because i love it so much thank you!
this appeals to me will definitely be doing it after I finish the magical city color along, my book finally arrived. his as an aside I only have the 24 inktense. is the Paine's gray a part of the 36 set you have or one bought as an extra. thank you!
My Polychromos payne's grey was not part of the 36 tinned set but was sent to me as a present from one of my followers. (Thanks again James!)
+Peta Hewitt thank you! for some reason in the magical city color along I thought it was an inktense color...this jellyfish color along is beautiful.
Ah, I see, Tammie. Payne's grey is actually a colour pigment that is used same across the range of different art supplies and different manufacturers. I have Payne's grey in both Inktense and Polychromos as well as in my Schmincke watercolours
Hi Peta,
I've been using Stabilo fineliners as another medium, because I cannot get my pencils sharp enough, however, they do not blend or shade very well. Do you have any advice?
What pencil sharpener do you use? That’s a nice point! 🇦🇺💖
Amazing, Thanks you. Please never stop making videos.
can't wait for part two
Hi Peta! Love your videos! When will you continue with the jellyfish?
editing for part 2 is almost finished. Hopefully not too much longer.
+Peta Hewitt great!!!
Hey! I love your videos and would love to improve my coloring skills but I don't have access to the Faber-Castell pencils so would Crayola pencils be just as good to use?
What is the name of this background song? It is so lovely.
hello i like your videos i am from venezuela and only have colors prismacolor premier i not faber polycroms friend would i like to know be equivalence in prismacolor .. thank you

Thank you Mike. i didn't know that. That's also wonderful for people who don't own the book or have already completed the picture but want to do the tutorial.
This is so relaxing to watch.
What kind of pencil sharpener are you using to get those long, fine points. They are like needles at the end.
Just an FYI for those using Prismacolor Premier soft core colored pencils:( I have the full set of 150 of the prismas)... Or eggshell or cream blended with the white would probably work as well. Not all sets have the number of greys that the 150 set has.
Jennifer Thomas Hombre I do really want to know the match between prismas and polychronos please
Do what I did, buy both sets and create a chart. Of course you will have favorites that only one set or the other offers, but jump on it. My art tutor/teacher loved Derwent products, so I bought all of them only to find it is not open stock in the USA. LOVE, love, love the Inktense pencils.

Hi Deanne, I repeat the pencils I use in the second video when I get to that section. I hope this helps.

I can't wait to see what's next! :-)
Tanks Peta. I sent a one time donation. I'll do more when I can. Thank you again for your lovely work and willingness to share
Thank you Clare.

I'm still using the Staedtler mars one. It seems to work well so far.
I'm so obsessed with your work it's just beautiful😍 I would love to see your review on imagimorphia as I saw some pictures you have already coloured on Instagram and they're gorgeous!x
Hi Taylor. the review has been filmed and is currently being edited. It should go up sometime over the next few weeks.
+Peta Hewitt Thankyou for replying!!
Wow, an amazing color along as always! Just wondering since we need such a fine point for the pencils to use in the tiny bits what sharpener(s) do you prefer? Thanks for all your valuable tutorials! I just love your work!!!!
Is part 2 tutorial coming out soon? Thank you for everything! I am learnings lot from you, Peta😘
Yes it is. Final render of the video is happening right now. I have to check it before I upload it. If there are no errors I'll load it up in the morning.
Thank you! PETA. As always, love all your videos and enjoy hearing your voice! Thank you!
Great video Peta and lovely color choice for the border keep up your wonderful tutorials 😊
it would help if you would tell us / show the number of the pencil.
Thanks PETA.
The coloring world needs you in 2023. Please come back to RUclips.
Do you have any advice for what paper to use for the printable version?
not ordinary photocopy paper... it's horrible to colour on in my opinion. I like to use card stock. You would be best asking at an art shop in your area for a good paper to use in the printer to colour on as they are hundreds of different types and I don't know what you will have available in your area.
Love this!
Color selection is everything in when coloring. I have a bit more learning to do :)
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise...:-)
Thank you, this is great.
Wow, how nice. Thank you very much. :-)
You are amazing
That jellyfish is the first page I drew in that book! Lol.
Oh no... I'm sorry. I tried to avoid the pictures I thought people would most likely coloured first.
+Peta Hewitt I hope that made sense it's early here in Arizona and may not be explaining myself properly.
It's all good, Erin. I didn't take it personally at all... I'm very easy going... I was just sad that you missed out on this one.
+Peta Hewitt but at least I can see it here too! Thanks Peta take care!

Wow really? 1 hour for coloring? This is crazy. I thought you were also to draw the jellyfish.
That's supposed to be listing not losing. Sorry.
Your color alongs are the ABSOLUTE best!!! I don't have that book but I'm sure there is a jellyfish in one of tgese books that I have lol
