Hello Poorbaayan , I'm fan of you. I always attend your concerts in Pune & do watch your videos on U tube. I'm (50yrs old) a sitarist of Maihar Gharana, am very happy to notice that you add new things, keeping intact the discipline of Maihar Tradition.😊👍👌💐
Nareshji, My guru for initial 10 years was pandit Sudheer S.Phadke & later for three years I'm very fortunate to get blessings from Maa Annapoornadevi ,then after I'm self taught sitarist 😊👍💐
Man…you are too good.. I don’t think we the lesser mortals can ever hope to master the meend…in a way that you demonstrated…looking forward to a simple video on meend, on a step by step basis…after all simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, as Steve Jobs once said/
This is a great lesson for learners at any level. In the true spirit of a masterclass, Mr.Chatterjee gives an outstanding demo of vocalising the notes to make pleasant melodic phrases. Thank you very much for this. And for the lessons to come.
You really pour your heart out in the demo and the meends..have been through many meend tuts. But this seemed to have resonated with me the most. Thank you.
This is awesome! Very nicely demonstrated with perfect vocals! I do not play Sitar but I try to adapt your style in guitar! Wish I had started Sitar in those early years.
Thanks a lot for this Purbayan Ji! This is exactly what I was looking for! Looking forward to many more videos like this 😁 Also i think the audio recorder level is going a bit too high making that crackling sound. If the gain was lower on the recorder it would sound awesome! Thanks again!
Very true. Meend is such an important aspect of sitar and the way it was explained, it would have been better with if the audio was good . Very great full to have this introduction on meend.
@@legalpundit22 no, the recording is actually really bad. The explanation and his playing is very clear but the recording is very unclear, too much reverb
Wow beautifully explained.🙏 I had A doubt it would great if anyone could clarify. While playing the sitar do we play both the strings I. e. The main string and the shadaj string? Do we play both the strings or only one string Please do clarify this doubt 🙏🙏
Saadar pranam , you are a melody itself, I stared to fallow u ,sir I started learning sitar from two month I am going 40 km far away from my home I did sangeet prabhakar and I dance too basically I am M Sc chemistry and a teacher Bt I am feeling that I am not doing very nicely work in music as I want so it makes me sad kindly help
Pranaam Purbayanji, could you kindly confirm if the raag that was played towards the end (the ghazal) is Kaushik Dhwani or was it Bhinna shadaj? If none of these, kindly let us know the raag please. Was really blissful and insightful.🙏
When will the youth be attracted to these type of music which really has the power to take you to infinity unlike the so called music they like to hear.
Its extremely painful to play sitar. Until your fingers deeply callus, your fingers will be nearly ripped. But beginners likely wont cut themselves because they will stop playing when the finger pain is too unbearable and wait it out. An advanced player like this guy’s fingers are probably so callused that he wont cut his fingers either.
kya baat he...apni tasbir ko .. my favourite ghazal
Wow, what a style of teaching

If someone starts playing sitar will his fingers get cut by the strings?

Beshak yeh meend hai lekin yen sitar ka gayaki ang hai, meend nahi.

Sorry to say but the sound is absolutely horrible. Hope this is fixed for next video. Otherwise great lesson Purbayanji
... scratch sounds from top bone plate is responsible for the squeaks, the audio is excellent !
😂😂😂😂😂
I find too much meend becomes a kind on neurosis. Used appropriately is is beautiful but overused it is sickly and just a technique display.
Great explanation. Horrible audio.
