Thank you for this beautiful lesson. I would like to humbly add that meend is more than “ornamentation” and a technique needed in playing a song. It is a very important and indispensable part of Indian music. Meend is what sets Indian music apart from western music. Meend is what makes a Raag a Raag. Without meend we will have just a skeleton of Raag. With meend (plus many other techniques) we have a living being with a personality. Meend is what brings life, magic, soul and emotions to Indian music. It is a classic example of sum being more than addition of its parts. Practice, tapasya and right application of meend can elevate a performance to a divine level.
I love your clear instruction. Most helpful for beginners like me. I have no hesitation is saying that your videos are the best in RUclips for Sitar lessons
This is very interesting. taking more than years of practice in that kind of exercise to achieve a goal. it's very hard and a lot of hours and hrs. it's not easy.
Thank you guruji! I am applying your teachings slowly as i progress. For someone who is into 4 weeks of learning only, how soon do you recommend to practice Meend? I live half way across the world there are no teachers available here so bit confused regarding the speed of learning stages. I have started alankar from your videos and i want to make base concrete before moving to next step. Thanks so much.
Namaskaar Thank you for following DevYagya. As you feel free playing sargam.. free means not the speed it's the smoothness of your playing then you may start practicing neend... If you want you may send you practice audio or video recording ( short clip ) to me at devyagya12@gmail.com.
