    I ordered it because I got the cheaper version of M1 MacBook Pro 16 inch with only 16 gb ram and 512 gb storage. I filled it up even with using portable hard drives 90 % of the time.
    So I feel like it will run better than the one I got last time and is a big upgrade for me personally.

    I'd recommend coming up with some real world tests other than video exports. All you're really testing there is the Media Engine. That, plus every tech influencer does these same tests. And when you see a result that looks odd, maybe try looking into why it occurred and if there is anything else going on (like testing different software/OS versions if applicable, fan speed settings, etc.) I think you'd stand out more as a tech reviewer if you went a bit deeper.

    • @jacobrichter
      @jacobrichter Год назад

      I think it's that TSMC has changed their 5NM proces. So it is specifically the 2nd generation of TSMC's 5NM process. How much they've changed it, or what it may mean I don't know. Maybe it's mostly PR to distract from the fact, that it's not their 3NM process.

    • @thewiirocks
      @thewiirocks Год назад

      It’s still ARMv8.5. Look for ARMv9 in possibly the M3 as it would likely be a major redesign of the chip. And if I’m reading the tea leaves correctly, Apple is doing their own Tick-Tock approach with a chip redesign, then improvements on the design. Unlike Intel’s original Tick-Tock, I imagine that fab improvements will be taken as they’re available rather than aligned with any part of the cycle, since fab improvements are likely to be available with each new chip revision. Sometimes it will be a process size improvement, sometimes it will be a new generation of the existing process size.

    Good for a mobile CPU, but apple are considerably behind Intel & AMD when it comes to outright performance in my use of M1 Ultra and Intel 13900K. At least apple are now at least admitting they won't be as fast as Intel & AMD though, so hope for improvements. 25% less performance is a lot at the workstation end of the game and Apple don't have a workstation solution able to compete yet.

      Apple chips require very little power which is excelent for devices with batteries. If you have 600/1000 Watt power supply and powerful chip you probably wouldn't care. As Windows desktop PC user, i find it absolutely incredible that such compact machines can produce such insane power.

    Damn 4k footage with lots of layers now only 10mins on a regular m1 thats enough even for a company!! I mean a friend of mine works on a multi media company and he prefer slower rendering computer coz its their down time, if its this fast they will just work and work without short rest. Clear short rest hahaha😂

      Maybe for certain tasks. General performance? I doubt it. The low hanging fruit is long gone. At this point Apple is going to be fighting for scale, something they didn’t have to deal with in the A-series chips in the iPhone and iPad.

      You can sort of game on it. While i have the loaded m1 max 16 inch, I can do some gaming on the side with about 40 games including Metro Exodus and series, Bioshock remastered one and two, No man's sky, Dues ex, Cuphead, Tomb raider series, Dying light, Dirty rally, Mad max, Layer of Fear, Hades, Resident Evil Village, Frost punk, civ 6, Total war series, Subnautica, super hot, Thief, Borderlands 2 and 3, Psychonauts 2, Sleeping Dogs, Baldur's Gate 3, Divinity Original Sin 2, Disco Elysium, Alien Isolation, Hades, Soma, Super Hot, Tunic and etc....
      Death Stranding director's cut is coming in a month or so...
      Not that many games but for a casual like myself who play games once in a while, I bought all these games and play them occasionally. The good thing is most of them play well. Add crossover and now the Game Porting Kit by Apple and you can play all types of PC games. Too bad there are only a few native titles without Rosetta. Baldur's gate 3 runs ultra settings at 120 fps in 4k. The m1 chip, especially the max is capable but games need to be specially optimized to really shine.

    What kind of anomalous shite is this, Tong? Make a video with real world tests that are fair, relevant and not agenda driven? I mean, c'mon now, this is just ridiculous.
    Lol; in all seriousness though, thank you for an outstanding, helpful video posted in time for us to make a purchasing decision before the product hits store shelves. I understand you've had the device early, but not early enough such that making a video this comprehensive was not a crap ton of work. So, at least from me, it is much appreciated. Have a great night.

    • @FoxxFire

      @@briantong It doesn't come through in text, which is my fault, but I was being sarcastic. I was saying that many Apple reviewers cherry pick certain test results and do things like fill up the ssd before testing a certain machine to make results look worse in order to drive an agenda. My point was that you do not do that.
