    Glad to see new products coming out in citizen band radios/lower priced amateur gear. Also, the fact that they are building in three bands makes these types of rigs very useful for the mobile radio amateur allowing this to make good SSB DXing on the 10 meters and WARC Band and then also run channel 19 while traveling down the road and for use on the hunting club while running the dogs.
    I once made a QSO with a Jordan ham on 12 meters while waiting for the dogs to be cut loose and was back on ch 20 and in the hunt in time to shoot the nice five point that came screaming out in front of the dogs 10 minutes later.
    My radios help to make many activities even more fun by providing options.

    Newer 2950DX radios do work very well, I have had a few from the old orange display to the new black display with green numbers, and the newer the better they work watt wise and receive wise. I will say this base is no where near worth 500 bucks if you can buy a new 2950DX for 279.00. Hope to find one used or blown up sometime to get my hands on one cheap.

    I've been a licensed ham for many years and sometimes I like to talk in the CB range (11-meters) because I have friends who are not licensed hams and I enjoy talking to them. Heck even if I didn't have friends on CB I'd still go there to talk sometimes just for a change of venue. I know a LOT of licensed hams who do this. In fact, I even talk to THEM at times in the 11-meter band. I doubt I'd buy THIS particular product because my ham gear can operate on 11-meters but a lot of hams operate on CB

      I'm a ham as well and like to talk from 2 meters to 15 including 11 sometimes what's a good radio for this so I don't have to have a bunch of radios

      You sir are one of the good guys of ham. The ones in my area are nothing more than a cult of self absorbed jerks that'll never talk to us on the 11 meter band but oh du they listen! I've heard them talking in code about us using illegal power and how dumb our conversations are. Yet they'll show up to a CB meet just to act superior to others. Thank you for not being one of those hams sir.

    Just wondering why you would need a PA mode for a base station radio???

    • @808pathfinder
      @808pathfinder 10 лет назад +1

      way back you would hook a pa speaker outside for work or call the kids

    • @ve3vpc
      @ve3vpc 10 лет назад

      808pathfinder Agreed and Understood; I'm just curios as to why they would still build these into the units especially when most laws will forbid the use of them (PA Speakers) unless you are some sort of Emergency Response Unit, Military, or Government work vehicle.

    • @ve3vpc
      @ve3vpc 10 лет назад

      808pathfinder Additionally what function would a PA suit on a Base style unit???

    • @808pathfinder
      @808pathfinder 10 лет назад

      my 1st comment was from a inside base to outside ,it could be used for checking if my mike works n sounds if you dont have talk back?example,I dont have talkback n I'm using n echo mic ,use the PA to set it on the sweet spot . its a cheap add on to add more buttons to your radio ,could be good for a mod switch ... thats all I'm coming up with

Do you know where can I find that software or a way to install backgrounds without the software. Thanks

      @@dboy69420dl Factor a bulk of those channels being a part of a repeater system lay out you only 2500..
      And to channelize just 21-30 MHz land and marine you would exceed 1,360 basrd on 136 channels per set
      3,860 channels
      and apply:
      106-170 MHx
      220-270 MHz
      300-399 MHz
      400-512 MHz
      and apply analog wide and narrow band and digital from 12.5KHz-1.5KHz swing shift
      though logically you can go from from
      106-199
      200-299
      300-300
      400-512..
      how many channels that can net you in an application between analog narrow/wide/digital in both uhf and vhf use..
      you think 2TB memory card is going to be enough for channel store 10,000+ channels
      the most storage I seen on most mobiles is 200, though in repeater use that is roughly 100 channels to physically use..
      a channelize 25-27MHz 308 channels
      24-29MHz nets you 816 channel

    I LIKE THE IDEA OF HAVING 12 METERBAND COMPLETE AS WELL AS THE 10 METERBAND + RUNNING FROM 26 MhZ TO 30 MhZ FOR USE WITH 6,2,AND 70CM BAND TRANSVERTERS. IT ALSO LETS OUR 11 METER NEIGHBORS LISTEN TO THE 12 AND 10 METER ACTIVITY AND MAYBE EVEN COORDINATE EMERGENCY EFFORTS IN TIME OF DISASTER WITH THE RELIEF TEAMS AND SEARCH TEAMS. WHEN THE SHTF..WE CAN ALL BE OF USE SOME WAY AND STAY WITHIN THE LEGAL BANDS FOR THE SAKE OF THOSE STRICT CONSTRUCTIONIST ARMCHAIR LAWYERS. WHEN LIVES ARE AT STAKE, THE LAW BE DAMNED...SAVE THE LIVES. YES...I HAVE BEEN A HAM SINCE 1980 AND HAVE FAMILY MEMBERS LICENSED SINCE 1938.

    • @jamescorbin9625
      @jamescorbin9625 9 лет назад

      +James Corbin PS...SOMEONE NEEDS TO LOOK AT THE LDG AT-100 PROII OR AT-200 PROII AUTOTUNER FOR USE WITH THIS RIG. THAT WAY A SIMPLE DIPOLE ANTENNA CAN BE USED OR THE A-99 VERTICAL CAN BE MATCHED AUTOMATICALLY . THOSE TUNERS HAVE 2 ANTENNA PORTS ON THE BACK WITH BUILT-IN SWITCHING. SO 2 DIFFERENT POLARITY ANTENNAS CAN BE USED. THE TUNER RUNS ON 13.8VDC SO NO SWEAT USING IT.

    • @breakerbroke23
      @breakerbroke23 9 лет назад +2

      Well I would start off by suggesting you take any one of those rigs on your brag list and put on the bench, unhook the antenna. You hear that white noise? That is due to the DSP and inherent IC noise from the synthesizer(IF) If you dont mind that constant white noise then all is good. Rock on.
      Now that being said do the same test on say a Cobra 2000gtl, President Madison, Grant 148, SS3900, voyager 9000, DX 94hp. (its a big list) oh add most any EPT 3600 and 6900 export board rig WITHOUT and digital front end (ie 2950) then you will see what good RX should be like. Remember... Any rig will transmit BUT its the receiver that YOU as an operator must live with.... 73s 390

    I don't understand why people who like CBs would want this. The vast majority of the frequencies this can do, they can't legally use. Why not just a CB with an amp? I know some truckers get a ham licence and these radios. Because they can LEGALLY push the power and go where morons can't. When multiple bands are used one needs an ANTENNA TUNER!!!! I find this radio to fit a very small market, for those using it LEGALLY! The vast majority of the buyers of these RCI radios are doing so to push 25 to 100 ILLEGALLY out of 11 meter band. CBs, 11 meters, are 5watts AM and 12 watts side-band. To use the 10 and 12 meter bands which these radios can do one needs to be a licensed active ham. Trust me they watch ham frequencies!!!! You won't be mouthing off long on those bands before the FCC comes a knocking. They also require a person to use their call-sign which is issued by the FCC. Not using a call-sign also will get a knock at your door. CB channels are not truly regulated, but that doesn't mean you should blast illegal power to the max. When doing so it interferes with many devices. Cordless phones, baby monitors, security system, and ect. Good practice is using enough power to make a good contact and no more. By a bunch of morons putting their signals at higher power, their signal drifts into other frequencies causing distortions and poor signal reception for everyone else. If everyone used good practice the signals out of weak radios could be heard a lot farther. Everyone would be happy.

    • @candlstudios
      @candlstudios 9 лет назад +1

      +onemarktwoyou Strange, you recommend they just get a CB with an amp.. which is ILLEGAL as well.
      The limit for CB is 4 watts on AM and 12 watts on sideband. You said it was 5 watts.
      If you monitor the frequencies between 10m and 11m you will find a lot of traffic. The FCC is hardly knocking on people's doors about anything.
      And just to make you even more happy, RCI makes radios that push 400 watts right out of the box. No need for an external amp anymore.

    • @jasonhowe1697
      @jasonhowe1697 8 лет назад

      +candlstudios actually by default your radio is set to 4watt and 12 watts, with pots adjustment 5 and 14 watts can be obtained, whether 4/12 is an fcc guideline or a company guideline i do not know though 5-14 watts output is possible and it has been there since the 70's..

    • @onemarktwoyou
      @onemarktwoyou 8 лет назад

      candlstudios
      If you noticed I was against using excessive power which those radios can do after they are modified.
      I merely pointed out why buy a ham radio to break the law. When all they needed was a 10 meter amp. It is dumb to buy a radio that one can not operate legally.
      I pointed out that those that practice blasting their radios are doing so illegally and interfering with other peoples devices.
      I in no way support these activities. I detest CBs, not because of the radios themselves. But because of the language and the abuse. I cannot allow my children to even listen to a CB. I never owned a CB either and I probably will never. The FCC should crack down on the abuses. I like the idea of its use by the general public. But the practices of those that are often found on it today, discourages the proper use. People just don't want to deal with a bunch of retarded hatemongers that have to use the airwaves because no one can stand them in person.

    • @candlstudios
      @candlstudios 8 лет назад

      onemarktwoyou What I pointed out was your preference that a CB operator simply use a 10-meter amp if they want to run high power.
      Which is illegal as well. I thought it was strange you're against illegal use of radio bands but not illegal power.
      The FCC doesn't crack down on CB band abuse because there's no money in it and it would take an insane amount of effort.. if it's even possible.

    • @candlstudios
      @candlstudios 8 лет назад

      Jason howe It is against FCC rules to run more than 4 watts AM or 12 watts sideband on the CB radio bands.
      Just because a radio can be tuned to run more than 4 watts does not mean it is legal.
      Now will you actually get in trouble for running more than 4 watts AM on a CB radio?
      Chances are no one will even say a word.
