Howdy from down under! Would you not be worried about long term corrosion with tap water? or is it not an issue after the coolant is in there? also, is it the same for 2013 mazda? thanks in advance.
I would not be worried using tap water. As long as the antifreeze to water mixture is 50/50 corrosive activity is not possible. If mixture has too much water the corrosion occurs. The antifreeze has corrosive additive protection within the fluid. Asian vehicle manufacturer coolant recommendation for Mazda vehicles. I hope this helps 👍
Similar, but not exactly the same. It will have a drain plug at the bottom of the radiator. I hope this helps. Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate it 👍
How did you "flush with clean water"? Was it just a hose through the coolant reservoir? I've read somewhere to fill with distilled water, run the engine, and do the flushing then fill with coolant.
Yes, I just kept flushing with water from a hose. Distilled water is an option as well. Correct. Through the Coolant expansion tank or “coolant reservoir” as it might be described as well. Let drain completely and then filled with clean 50/50 coolant. I then let the engine run reach operating temperature. Making sure it doesn’t overheat while making sure the heat works correctly. Burping system of any air during the procedure. Then repeated procedure as necessary. Replacing with new expansion tank cap when completed. I hope this helps. I appreciate the feedback. Thank you 🤙
Hi, I ended up putting water on an emergency bec I didnt have coolant and car was going to overheat. Do I have to drain the water before I refill with coolant? Actually, i refilled it already with 3liters of coolant but reservior doesnt fill up. Now im worried if I should drain it bec there might be some water left from the last time and now the coolant might be diluted? Hope u can help me out. I read you used 2galloons to replace after draining. I dont want to fill it up some more if I should actually be draining it bec I put water before.
The vehicle needs to have proper coolant to antifreeze mixture. So flushing the entire system is needed after adding more water into the system. I hope this helps. I appreciate the feedback 👍 Thank you.
Ever found out the cause? Happened to me a few days ago while stopped waiting for my wife. But once refilled with distilled water we went on our way home 66kms away (41mi) without any hiccups although didn't turn on the AC. Haven't used it after since reputable mechs around my area are way booked.
Thank you for the detailed video. What socket/key did you use to open the drainage?
Thought I was watching a scene from Austin Powers while waiting for the coolant to empty out!

Hello , do you have aby idea if its the same process for the Mazda 6 2011 (same engine)

Hi
Where to fill coolant from ?
Overflow plastic tank,i cant find radiator cap.
Thanks
Yes, coolant is filled through the coolant expansion tank. I hope this helps. I appreciate the feedback 👍
Quick question, is it required to "burp" the CX-9 coolant system after replacing the coolant? Or is it self-burping? Thanks!
Burp the system. Test drive. Then let cool down and fill as needed.
How much coolant did you use to re-fill the system?
2 gallons

I know this is 12 months old but coolant is 13.3L for the TB model (07-15) 3.7L for anyone else wondering.
Do you flush once a year or twice a year ??
I do it at least once a year. Most manufacturers recommended everything 30k or 3 years. I hope this helps. I appreciate the feedback. Thank you 👍
I haven't flushed mine for 14 years and considering the water pump issues I'm grateful - but hey - I am about to!
Does this vehicle take green or yellow coolant?
Parts dealer will be able to answer that question. 👍
Most Asian cars including Mazda - all models take the green coolant
@@roboak7916 thanks
That's my question too, but soeme Mazda have a Ford engine!
@@Smoothoperator65 it's green coolant. Well mine was
