I think a part of me died when you said that you could set a glass on top of a book one stead of a coaster. 😫 I am not a coaster person either but I love my books way too much to be setting wet glasses on them haha.
I also love books but I have one I always put glasses and mugs on. It is for my work, it has slippery cover, it hasn't get dammaged (but I wouldn't be very sorry if it did). For some time I've also used some random catalogue I was given as a "coaster"
I own an instapot, crock pot, vita mix, blender, immersion blender, and food processor and use them all! I eat mostly plant based and never red meat so all of these get heavily used. I do have a storage pantry so they get housed there.
I am the opposite! I have a food processor but not a blender, because I almost never make smoothies. I have a very low-profile stick immersion blender instead for when I need to blend a soup or the rare smoothie. I got a stand-mixer because I knew I would use a lot of the specialty attachments - pasta roller, meat grinder, ice cream bowl, etc., so for me it's actually space saving to have one machine to do all that. Minimalism is all about knowing what YOU need for your specific lifestyle. 😊
I’ll never give up my stand mixer. SO much more versatile than anything else I own. Also, you have the little oven from OurPlace….on your counter in most IG stories. That counts as an air fryer, toaster oven, etc.
@@ariannatartan5449Sure, but it was just on her counter like last week. It just makes it sound like she doesn’t use such things. I know if a brand wanted to send me something and I knew I wouldn’t use it, I would politely decline.
Hey Sarah, I would LOVEEEE it if you would consider doing a video on stainless steel pan care. I’m currently trying to steer away from nonstick, but I feel that stainless steel requires more maintenance to keep clean. Maybe it’s simple and it’s just me but I would love to see how you take care of yours!
Hi 👋🏻 fellow anti-non-stick fella. (We have one for husband and I use it rarely for crepes and such but other than that I'm stainless steel friend!) 1. Heat before adding oil for a bit 2. Add oil and heat before adding food 3. Add water (or flavour liquids - soy sauce, that unfinished prosecco from last night, worstesceshire, tomato passata, ketchup, balsamic,...) to low oil foods to avoid burning stuff 4. If you want the crunchy darker golden (or browned delicious based on what spice mix you used) texture pour out the liquid into a saucer and let it kind of char for a bit near the end. 5. This is also a mom hack: always remove all food while serving. I serve onto plates and then put all the rest into a glass container that we use as a serving bowl for seconds. It also goes to the fridge in this bowl once it cools, so no extra steps needed. And soak and scrub the pot. If it's only greasy with no stuck rice/burned moments, your dishwasher will gladly handle it for you after all, steel *can* go into the high temperature wash without leeching toxins ;)
It’s crazy how minimalists all view priorities differently. I have coasters because I love my wood table and don’t want it ruined. I have a Kitchenaid on my counter but bake breads with yeast and not sourdough because I hate the extra tools you need for sourdough. My cookbooks are in a cupboard and yours are showing. That would drive me crazy. I use metal sponges and I have a sink storage for them because I don’t want it sitting directly on my sink. It’s pretty funny!
Same!!! And I have a pressure cooker, it's wayyy quicker for beans, braised meats, stew etc. so it's more economical. And I don't own those water bottles/to-go cups that people seem to love in the us 😅 I'm not sure why she doesn't just use a glass as she is at home
You honestly only need a dutch oven as an extra. I have my starter in a normal glass pantry jar, proofing bins you can replace with stainless steel bowls or small pots even if you wanted. Otherwise you don‘t need anything really.
Great video! I'm getting married this year and a question I often get is "Where is your registry?" or "Why don't you have a registry?". My simple answer is that I really don't feel the need to own more stuff. I have a couple kitchen appliances and a few home goods that I have thrifted or gotten used from my family members. I also live in a small apartment that my fiance will be moving into and there really is not much room for more things. Instead I have a "home fund" that people can contribute to so when we do have a bigger space or I do feel that I am lacking something I can buy it out of necessity! Thanks for sharing your process of separating "need" from "want"!
You can exchange what you have for higher end or more durable alternatives. For example I had dishes when I got married, but they were from Walmart, so I got like really nice norataki plates that we still use 8 years later and probably will use for 30 more years
Got married almost 3 years ago now and we didn't have a registry. We didn't need anything or if we did, we just bought it. We told people that their gift of attending our wedding was enough. Now people still gave us cards with money but we didn't have to bother with it all when we got back from the honeymoon.i think it really benefits couples who aren't living on their own yet and don't have anything. Congratulations!
Wow, I love the idea of a "home fund" instead of a registry! Then you don't get stuck with things you didn't want but someone thought you needed like those plastic containers Sarah mentioned getting from her wedding
Stand mixer and food processor is my two top favourites. I do bread by hand and everything else in between these two machines. I love them and in my opinion a kitchen aid is a piece of beauty on the counter. ❤
Absolutely!! Stand mixer I use for baking and pasta making all the time and it is beautiful on my counter… I just got a food processor that I’m learning to use to hopefully make my life easier. I have a pressure cooker because cooking a roast in it in a short about of time is a life saver for my 16 year old as doing school pick up and working in an office eats into a lot of time. Also I want to start making my own yogurt in my pressure cooker. Breading making I do all by hand or use my stand mixer dough hook for extra kneading work of big batches like pizza dough. I think you Sarah you said it so well though, you need to assess what is useful in your life right now and that will look different for everyone. My goal is to use less plastic containers 🙏🏼💕
I’ve never owned a toaster. My family never had one growing up- we always make toast with buttered bread on the pan on the stove. Pan-fried toast is the best. 🤤
Me and my son just started doing this a few months ago and I’m about to give my toaster away because it literally does not compare to a buttery, pan-fried, toast 😍
I’m gonna say this and I don’t want it to come off as like being mean or anything but you have a lot of storage space in your kitchen like cabinetry wise, but understand that it is a very big privilege. I have a very small kitchen with not a lot of storage space in cabinets that close so things are out and it does feel cluttered but I don’t really have another option. Again I’m not judging I’m just saying be thankful that you have the space that you do in the storage space that you have.
You don’t have to tell someone to be thankful. When she first renovated this kitchen, she consistently talked about being thankful. In fact they used to live in a trailer home.I have a closet sized kitchen too, but I don’t think everyone has to constantly mention their privilege when they have something more than I do.
I get that your intention probably wasn’t to be mean. But there’s really no need to say all of this if thats the case. It’s okay to not have the same as others. And it’s never really seemed like she’s ungrateful. So perhaps if your intention isn’t to be mean, then just don’t say anything. And this is coming from someone who lives in a VERY small apartment.
For the occasion when you wish you had a coaster, flip a plastic mason jar lid upside down. I know you have those around! Double use items don't have to be sold as such🤪
I relate so heavily to your experience with clutter not just being on a surface but being in you mind. I am overwhelmed by things more then any other form of stimuli. I totally get it. Thank you for talking so openly about minimalism and your lifestyle it has been incredibly positive and encouraging!
I love my KitchenAid for kneading bread (don't have a bread machine). I got rid of my knife block on the counter so I could fit her and I couldn't be happier 😊 Fun video!
Love this old school Sarah video! I've been a fan since you gave birth to Elizabeth :) I also don't own an air fryer, but I LOVE my instant pot. If you end up trying it again, the instant pot pressure cooker also has a slow cooker setting. I make bone broth, hard boiled eggs, rice, oatmeal, taco meat, etc. and it cooks everything perfectly. My electric kettle and instant pot are my two must have appliances in my kitchen.
Just found your channel .... loving it. Things I don't own: A microwave, I hate them and non stick cookware because it's toxic. no pressure cooker, no air fryer ...just seems uselss. ... I do own a lot of kitchen stuff because most of the food going in my pantry is grown myself, so my kitchen is also very busy...but it's always encouraging to see what types of things you can do without too.
The air fryer is nice in the summer because it doesn't heat up the house. We don't have AC and my husband doesn't like me using the stove or oven in the summer.
You can still use air fryer and use oil. I use air fryer and I either spray food with avocado oil before putting it in or put it on my food afterwards. I also use my instapot and crockpot a lot. It’s so convenient when you meal prep. I have been freezer prepping my meats and then thawing them out and cooking them either in instapot or crockpot. I could see it very beneficial for a big family like yours. You should definitely invest in those! I also love my recently purchased food processor, it’s so easy to shred cabbage for when I make sauerkraut, also I love shredding my own cheese.
I LOVE my stand mixer, Instant Pot, slow cookers ( I have several in different sizes) , and our counter top convection oven/air fryer, so I don't have to waste money heating up my big oven . I will always have these kitchen appliances.
I love seeing how differently other people manage their kitchens! For me I definitely keep lots of duplicate items around because I do some INTENSE gardening and food preservation in the summer. My multiple large mixing bowls are used to haul gobs of fresh produce into the kitchen, my multiple cutting boards are often lined up as an assembly line, and my multiple large pots are usually either simmering a tomato sauce or plain water for blanching produce. Sure, I could accomplish all this with just one pot, bowl, and cutting board, but it would greatly slow me down during a season when I need to optimize my time! Not saying this to bash minimalism or anything! We all do minimalism differently and I like to think that by keeping around extra tools for growing and preserving our food, I can be more minimalist in other ways like grocery shopping and meal planning. I loved this video because it did get me thinking deeply about things I may or may not still need to keep around in my own kitchen.
Love the idea of borrowing the appliance you are planning to buy. Great way to see how easy/complicated it is. I think I’ll do that with my mom’s bread machine. Thanks!
I do not have a bread machine or stand mixer, even though I make 100% of our bread. I just have always found bread making to be so simple I didn’t feel a need to make it quicker. But I DO love my instant pot. I use it frequently to cook dry beans, which allows me to use beans as a go to quick im-out-of-groceries meal without having to plan ahead. I also use it for making yogurt every week. And it also really makes bone broths so much quicker and requires less monitoring. I also have a food processor, flour mill, large spice grinder, electronic sifter and 10 tray dehydrator that I am using all the time. Without those tools I don’t think I’d ever leave the kitchen 😅
Keep what you use and have the space for. I live in a very hot environment where we normally see triple digits for half a year so I use the crockpot, instant pot, and air fryer. We do not like to use the stove during those hot months nor does anyone wish to stand over the grill outside.
I used to use a bread machine the way you do and I loved it but I couldn’t make bread without it and I was so intimidated. Then my bread machine broke and I already had a stand mixer so I gave in and taught myself to use the stand mixer instead and I really find it’s easier and more versatile!
I see your knife block!! A lot of minimalists have ditched it and stored the knives in the drawer instead. Same with the wooden spoons. I love it! Thanks for all your tips. I always love it when it's kitchen themed because I feel like that's the most clutter spot in the house.
I agree 99%! I do have coasters because I think they are cute and we use them constantly. I probably will never have a stand mixer. It kinda saddens me, but I can't get over the idea of it taking up so much space 😬 I grew up in a cluttered kitchen and we didn't use half the stuff. I get really stressed working in a cluttered space. Love your videos Sarah! 😃
You talking about the concept of multiples spoke to me on another level. Finally someone who would understand me when I say "if I don't need it, or am not willing to replace the one I already have, then I don't get it" ..
I have been washing kitchen sponges for quite some time, you can was them on 60°C, I cannot tell you have many many many times, eventually they will become thinner but it really takes them a long time. I tried with the cheaper ones as well as the more pricey ones and must say even the cheapiest ones last quite some time without becoming thin, but also after they become so, they still are just as good. 😊
counter clutter and counter clutter! love these examples, totally feel the same about paper towels and organizers, with the added benefit of not having to clean or dust another surface!
I know you said you don't like sponges & I don't either, but.... Skoy makes a very thin machine washable sponge cloth which is, IMO, perfect in the kitchen. They're inexpensive so I bought enough to change out every day. I throw them in the washer along with other kitchen towels & air dry. They never smell & last a long time - I am still using those I bought in Sept 2020.
I’m always so curious to watch these videos and see what you don’t have that maybe I don’t need or just curious to see how you go about without these things. Love the minimalist vibe you kept up in this channel!
I cannot see if anyone has commented on this. I'm interested to know. If you needed to cut raw meat. Would you use the wooden chopping board forget too? Just thinking about contami action from raw meats to other foods. Thank you Sue
I don’t use an air fryer cuz I don’t like fried foods, an air fryer is just the fastest way to re heat anything or cook things in smaller quantities or cook things faster than an oven and use less energy
It was interesting to hear all your thoughts! It's always good to question if you have things you don't often use that you can let go of to have less clutter... Especially visual clutter... It's the worst!
I started getting rid of plastic kitchen ware in during the holidays and my goal for this year is to be completely plastic free for kitchen storage by the end of it. I noticed sooo much plastic flaking off so I've slowly been transitioning the things I can.
For all home storage I use glass containers, I take my lunch to the office also in one, but I feel it's too heavy to put school breakfast in it, and i don't trust the bamboo ones, they all seem they could open on the way...
Hello! I would love to know your Breakfast, lunch, and dinner flows forgetting the meals on the table while also managing the rest of your day (Eg kids waking up and getting them ready, etc) and the clean up of the meals. I saw the kitchen closing and enjoyed that! But how does meal prep and everything work when your kids are homeschooling? Maybe your husband helps a lot? Thanks!
I totally agree with everything you say here, I too hate the little clutter dust catcher things, and all those extra appliances and pots. I appreciate your shopping tips and your store on Amazon, have added many items to my list!
This was a great video. Thank you for sharing. For me, I don’t have the bread maker. But bake bread often in my oven. But I do have two Stand mixers. One no name, and one Kitchen aid. I use them both often. I have a 12 person family. And often have guests over. Teen guests. And have four Teen children. All that to say, I do think if you like the instant pot when barrowing it. And are debating on getting a Slow cooker because you miss having one. The instant pot has a slow cook option. If you bite the bullet on another appliance I truly suggest the larger Instant pot with multi purposes. They even have one that has air fry lol. Yogurt setting. All the things. ❤
I love our air fryer! It replaced our toaster and microwave. So nice for warming up small things, and I’ve even made bread in it! I didn’t get one for years, but I found one at a thrift store for $7 in great condition!
After 2020 a deep freeze and second fridge are essential. We only shop Costco once a month and try to only shop fruits and vegetables once a week but everything else biweekly.
In the city we lived in the grocery stores were completely empty for the first few months of CVD. Still have anxiety thinking about it, had 3 kids, one was a newborn, born in March. Terrifying. Never again. We keep a well stocked kitchen now. We were reckless and ignorant of the dangers of only keeping a week worth of food on hand before.
We have to have two fridges because of the amount of produce, particularly in summer we have and one small deep freeze. I'm not a big food preserver, because I know I probably won't eat it and/or cook with it. What we learnt from all the covid lockdowns we had where I live was to keep the garden up and we're fine. Because of food allergies, I couldn't rely on shops to have what i needed, because people who had no allergies would strip bare all the groceries for people like myself and we'd be literally left with nothing as we couldn't just buy whatever came in - so we adapted.
Sarah, you're awesome! The aesthethics in this video are so beautiful, and then your sweet personality really shines through 💛 Bless you and the fam! Lots of love from long time follower🌻
totally agree with your thought process but i prefer slightly different things! i don't have a toaster and don't want one. i use my broiler and put the bread on a cookie sheet also i have a stand mixer and love it. I use it most often for shredding chicken breast which i do at least weekly. also use it for some sandwich loaves
So interesting how all homemakers are unique. I love my stand mixer but I wouldn't want it hanging out on my counter either, so she has her own little cabinet. On the other hand, I DESPISE microwaves, and it's strange to me when I see one in a kitchen.
My kitchenaid stand mixer is my kitchen wirk horse. From kneading sourdough dough to beating cookie dough to grinding meat. It does everything. I also store it away due to limited counter space. I'm hoping to get the pasta maker attachment for it soon! In my opinion, the mixer replaces a lot of kitchen appliances. I don't own a deep fryer or air fryer. Just fry our fries in a big pot.
I have one appliance that does everything, slow cooking, pressure cooking, air frying, sautéing, etc. I would not have multiple appliances for all of those functions! I would do without too
I don’t own a stand mixer. I was strongly my husband get me one for my birthday in 2 weeks. But you just saved us about $300 and we’re getting a bread machine instead! Super cool that it bakes the bread too 😅
Last year I cleared out so many gadgets and small appliances that my Ninja IQ and stand mixer could do, that cleared out about 2 large drawers and 2 large cabinets that allowed me to space out our bakeware and cookware. I have 5 Lodge cast iron pieces- 3 skillets, a Dutch Oven and one griddle, a Staub Dutch Oven, 4 All Clad Stainless Steel pots (2 are the same 1qt pots that I generally use a lot), 2 slow cookers, one dedicated to making my 2 Labs food. As for sponges, my hospital has Laboratory week and asked people to bring in common household items to test on- the sponge and SOS scrub pad had the most bacteria growth and the owners said they made sure to clean them really well the night before 🤢- I only use Norwex dish cloths and change them out every day just like my hand towels. I don’t own a bread maker or air fryer. You have convinced me to get rid of my plastic cutting boards, I have 4 wood ones in various sizes. I keep a folding dish rack as I don’t have a dishwasher at this moment but once the dishes are washed they are dried and put away immediately as is the rack. I am not one to keep anything in my counters except my coffee maker, electric kettle and stand mixer, everything is behind closed doors of a 24” pantry dedicated to my small appliances and bakeware and canisters. I keep only 1 dish soap brand in a bulk container and pour into the dispenser that is part of my sink- we use that for both dishes and handwashing at the sink, I keep a pretty pump bottle with hand lotion at the sink, all my cleaning cloths are Norwex and I make my own cleaning solutions with vinegar, Dawn, baking soda, Dr. Bonners plain castor soap, peroxide, rubbing alcohol citrus peels and essential oils which means I don’t have to have to have a closet or cabinet just for multiple and different cleaning products. For me, less is more, mostly non-toxic, reusable (we are phasing out ziploc bags and buying reusable stasher bags, glass snap loc containers and the Zwilling Vacuum Storage kit). All this isn’t because I am an eco zealot, but I am tired of waste and rebuying disposable stuff. We downsized a few years ago and when I was packing, I donated 3-5 of the same things I had accumulated over the years- cook and bakeware (I had 5 sets of each), 4 sets of dish ware and serve ware, hand mixers, 3 toasters, 2 blenders, an InstaPot we never used, gadgets, utensils of every kind, and let’s not speak of the towels and bedding and furniture in storage- we knew of 2 young couples just starting out and they literally furnished their apartments with all that stuff we had accumulated over 30 years. We are not minimalists in the purist sense but we have minimized to where we have kept only what is necessary or well loved and makes us smile (like decor items we have collected and still love and our now adult children’s artwork in frames).
I LOVE my Instant Pot (pressure cooker) sooo much!! I just made pork ribs the other night and after 35 mins in there they were super tender. Last week I made chicken bone broth and the week before beef broth! Its an incredible tool for me.
I love my stand mixer! I use it so much! I have the attachment dor a blender for smoothies or blending something into a powder and it is amazing. ❤ I am too minimilistic. But in my kitchen I love what I use. ❤ I must add. When we built our house. We planned a walk in pantry. And I have a space to put all my appliances I will always use. So aLL i have us the stand mixer. And a few odd things
I got rid of my InstantPot. It just wasn't for me. So I offered it up on a free community group and allowed another mom to have one to use. I do however have 2 stand mixers. Both a 5 qt tilt head and 6 qt bowl lift as well as almost all the attachments and they are used a lot. I don't make bread (GF due to Celiac and don't tolerate yeast) but use them for other things. I also have 8 Le Creuset pieces that again are used a lot as well as our multi clad stainless steel pieces. Love the versatility of them all. I also use glass containers. Oh and LOVE my Fiestaware pieces - plates, bowls, serving pieces, mugs, etc. Safe and made in America. And all the colors together are pretty.
Instead of cellophane. I found that you can use beeswax wraps. They are reusable and come in various sizes. I have 6 and they had not fit a container yet. They seal better and don't stick into that frustrating mess 😊
I love your videos! Always nice to see how other people do things for ideas! Also, a chemical reaction happens between the carbs and fats and it’s just terrible in general for your body to deep fry. Just look into it bc yes fats are definitely great for you but not deep frying, even with natural oils due to chemistry
@@kristinotto102same!! Especially chicken.. I could never put that on wood. But glass!! 😯😯 I’m adding that to my cart now! I didn’t know they even had glass cutting boards
I HATE sponges too... I use microfibre cloths . But i LOOOOVE Coasters... I do have a Coaster Holder though, so they can be put away neatly after using them. 😊
Can you talk about how you handle gifts of things you don’t want to keep but I also don’t want to offend. How do you enforce this kind of organization with kids, family, company? I think similarly, and run into these issues.
Lots of good ideas unfortunately attitude and presentation your better then others and we should be acculading you. I watched though however i won't again so many others who give advise and ideas without the - I'm so clever ¿
For me, a bread machine is really unnecessary 😅 A mixer actually suits me for several things, so it makes much more sense to me than a bread machine. We mix the dough in a mixer and let it sit aside and rise... I don't see the need for a special machine for this. I liked the video :) It's fun that you upload videos where you talk directly to us
You've got to try a Scrub Daddy sponge! They contain colloidal silver (nature's antibacterial/antifungal/antiviral magic) which means they never smell and don't get nasty. They also turn hard under cold water for a stronger scrubber or soft under warmer water for more of a wipe. They last forever and don't get pilly when you're cleaning dough out of bowls or off utensils. Such a great kitchen tool that I never would have bought if someone didn't tell me how helpful they are!
Honestly love my slow cooker for church day meals or times when I'm out of the house and short on time, but pressure cooker we bought this year and that's because I'm starting to do more canning. Also don't have much of the "norm," but struggle to get counters completely empty due to size of kitchen vs our family size (9), but working towards that in the future. Also no stand mixer here, don't even use the handheld very often :/
@@Christianmumma649 I have to say that her last videos gave me that feeling too.. it's as if she's not really enjoying making these videos and they're just something she has to do for income. I don't know.. the vibe is weird.
Sarah I just love your hair style, so much that I cut my long lanky hair just like yours! Next is color....wish I could carry off that red shade that beautifies you so much. I hope you always keep your hair short -- so easy, sassy and free! I also appreciate your talking about God and the Bible, so needed in this decadent world. Keep on preaching and being true to yourself sister!
I loved this video I started following you back in your og page. This was the content I fell in love with. Still love your current content tho! My kitchen is super minimal, too much overwhelms me. I don’t do any extra cookers other than oven, and microwave. I hate storing things too. Great reminder we don’t have to have it ALL to put a delicious meal on the table for our families 🤍
Cutting on a ceramic plate should not be really convenient, should it? just from the feeling and the sound of when you cut down to the plate gives me chills, I donno maybe others have good experiences, I also don't like to keep plastic ones any more, but for the meat I also never use a wooden one, maybe any other alternative from you guys? 😊 Also one more question, does anybody wash their wooden utensils in a dishwasher? a cooker, wooden plate, wooden cutting desk...
First off, live the video! Binge listened to them all yesterday to catch up. Second of all, i dont own an oven/stove. Fanily of 4 (and done growing) so we just didnt need it. We lack counter space in my weird kitchen so with rhe stove gone, we have a coffee bar and breakfast bar instead which frees up the main counter space and cupboard space
A lot of our foods don't require one but we have an air fryer, slow cooker and toaster oven when we do cook our food. Usually in the winter well use them but sometimes summer calls for a pizza party outside 😂
@@emily57644 I absolutely get that! I grew up using the stove/oven all the time. But with it gone, I really don't miss it. I have a hot plate that I bring out as needed but that's mostly just for meal prep or spur of the moment meals.
things I dont have is a microwave or any type of paper products. I am also anti plastic so 0 plastic in my kitchen. I do however have a blender because we love our smoothies
Hey Sarah! This might seem random, but my husband and I both work in media and want to be filmmakers. While watching your videos, which I love, my husband said how awesome your style is and how cool your videos are, but he wondered why you filmed in 60 fps. He thinks shooting in 24 frames per second would really finish off the look of your videos. Just a thought. :)
I don't want a stand mixer for the same reason. I don't have the counter/storage space! Hand mixer and wooden spoons are sufficient for me at this stage.
I am obsessed with my kitchenaid, she is my best buddy and i love her dearly, weve been together for 10 years now but i cannot have her on the bench 😅 absolutely not lady, you go in the cupboard 🤣🤣 they take up so much room!
Dude I couldn’t live without my food processor for two reasons 1)Shredding cheese and 2) Making hummus. Ain’t no way I’m grating my knuckles 😂. I feel like I’m becoming a pretty good minimalist. Gave up the sponge like 20 years ago, rags work fine. My mom sent me a new stand mixer and I haven’t opened it yet 😅
No knife on my counter top, no air frier and even no wood board. I like it free with some flower from time to time 😁 By the way I love your cardigan. Where did you get it?
Please tell me where you got your apron! It took me forever to get rid of my plastic cutting boards too haha! My hold up was finding a wooden one without glue. Then I finally got to the point where I was like what is worse? Glue or plastic shavings?
I only use avocado oil. I great up with my mom using canola oil for all her cooking. EEk! I also have a very large cutting board that I use but I had a plastic small one for way too long beforehand. We also don't have multiples, as there is no point. I do have a food processor because I was making a couple things that I needed one for, but I haven't used it in a year and am thinking of donating it. I am trying to look through my recipes to make sure there aren't ones that call for one. My life has been fine this long barely or not using one. I do not have a blender though and never use one. I also have glass containers for leftovers, but because teen boys eat so much, it is rare I have leftovers these days. I think I am the only one who eats leftovers (for my lunches). I don't have corn on the cob holders or napkin holders either. All our glasses were pasta jars in the past. When one breaks, easy replacement. I have not owned paper towels in over a decade. I use a rag to clean up the messes. I also use biodegradable washcloths to clean up the messes too. Loved seeing your video and what you do and don't own. Fun!
I think a part of me died when you said that you could set a glass on top of a book one stead of a coaster. 😫 I am not a coaster person either but I love my books way too much to be setting wet glasses on them haha.
I agree!
I use coasters a lot, but when I don't have one I use my hankerchiefs (of which I have inherited a large amount to my delight!)
Omg yes I would never lol
I also love books but I have one I always put glasses and mugs on. It is for my work, it has slippery cover, it hasn't get dammaged (but I wouldn't be very sorry if it did). For some time I've also used some random catalogue I was given as a "coaster"
I only use coasters on my wooden table, everywhere else I use books as a heat protector for tea / coffee 😂 And I never got any of them wet
I own an instapot, crock pot, vita mix, blender, immersion blender, and food processor and use them all! I eat mostly plant based and never red meat so all of these get heavily used. I do have a storage pantry so they get housed there.

Minimalism is all about knowing what YOU need for your specific lifestyle. 😊
I’m not getting a stand mixer for my wedding registry wishlist because I know I wouldn’t use it 😂
Totally agree
I’ll never give up my stand mixer. SO much more versatile than anything else I own.
Also, you have the little oven from OurPlace….on your counter in most IG stories. That counts as an air fryer, toaster oven, etc.
I'm guessing she gave that oven away. Just because a brand gives her something doesn't mean she keeps it.
(We have one for husband and I use it rarely for crepes and such but other than that I'm stainless steel friend!)
1. Heat before adding oil for a bit
2. Add oil and heat before adding food
3. Add water (or flavour liquids - soy sauce, that unfinished prosecco from last night, worstesceshire, tomato passata, ketchup, balsamic,...) to low oil foods to avoid burning stuff
If it's only greasy with no stuck rice/burned moments, your dishwasher will gladly handle it for you after all, steel *can* go into the high temperature wash without leeching toxins ;)
use barkeepers friends to get stuck on stuff off stainless steel pans ;)
I agree!! I love seeing my red mixer there!! It’s the same thing as liking a green toaster etc
I had a stand mixer and felt the same way until my hands rebelled. I was a hairdresser for many years. Now she's a great friend!
I’ve never owned a toaster. My family never had one growing up- we always make toast with buttered bread on the pan on the stove. Pan-fried toast is the best. 🤤
Pan fried bread texture is different from a toast. Like you, I also prefer pan fried bread but my family prefers toast.
Would you walk into your friend's house and say this to them in person?
I get that your intention probably wasn’t to be mean. But there’s really no need to say all of this if thats the case. It’s okay to not have the same as others. And it’s never really seemed like she’s ungrateful. So perhaps if your intention isn’t to be mean, then just don’t say anything.
And this is coming from someone who lives in a VERY small apartment.
Be thankful anyone read your comment 😂 this is wildly passive aggressive, you got problems. Just be bitter in a bare manner.
For the occasion when you wish you had a coaster, flip a plastic mason jar lid upside down. I know you have those around! Double use items don't have to be sold as such🤪
And the jars can be used as cool cups, love my mason jars!❤ 😂
I could just listen to you talk for 3 hours like a podcast. these videos make me so calm while also help me to re evaluate the way I live
I relate so heavily to your experience with clutter not just being on a surface but being in you mind. I am overwhelmed by things more then any other form of stimuli. I totally get it. Thank you for talking so openly about minimalism and your lifestyle it has been incredibly positive and encouraging!
Maybe use some parchment paper, couple of layers on the board to cut your meats. Ceramic or glass will dull your knives. just a helpful hint.
I love my KitchenAid for kneading bread (don't have a bread machine). I got rid of my knife block on the counter so I could fit her and I couldn't be happier 😊 Fun video!
Love this old school Sarah video! I've been a fan since you gave birth to Elizabeth :)
I also don't own an air fryer, but I LOVE my instant pot.
The 8qt instant pot is also a slow cooker so you could have 2 in one.
Came to say the same!
Love the idea of borrowing the appliance you are planning to buy. Great way to see how easy/complicated it is. I think I’ll do that with my mom’s bread machine. Thanks!
Our library has loaner bakers items for those that don't have them
I honestly love my glass storage containers! I made the switch a couple years ago and haven’t look back since!
An air fryer generally uses less electricity than an oven and you can prepare a lot of different foods in it. Often the food is prepared faster.
I have a magnetic strip on the wall, SO much better!
You don’t own an air fryer now? What did you do with your Wonder Oven from Our place? 🙃
I LOVE my pressure cooker bc I’m all about multi-use appliances and my InstaPot is also a slow cooker, rice cooker, and can be used as a pan to sauté
Thanks!
Would love a video on how you organize your kitchen! We only have a tiny pantry
I totally agree with everything you say here, I too hate the little clutter dust catcher things, and all those extra appliances and pots. I appreciate your shopping tips and your store on Amazon, have added many items to my list!
I’m surprised to see you have a microwave!
All that to say,
I do think if you like the instant pot when barrowing it.
I don't have a bread maker or a hand mixer because I have a stand mixer and it goes in a cabinet.
After 2020 a deep freeze and second fridge are essential. We only shop Costco once a month and try to only shop fruits and vegetables once a week but everything else biweekly.
We are a family of 8 around the same age as your kids but an additional adult as we are multigenerational household.
Totally agree…. Having a food storage is important in the times we live in. I want to care for my family & those close in my community, if need be.
Lots of love from long time follower🌻
totally agree with your thought process but i prefer slightly different things!
i don't have a toaster and don't want one. i use my broiler and put the bread on a cookie sheet
also i have a stand mixer and love it.
I don’t keep mine on the counter either. I don’t use it daily, I use it a lot during the holidays though and sometimes keep it out then.
I also use it as a slow cooker but I don't love it quite as much for that option so I don't do it a ton. I don't own a slow cooker.
I purchased a ninja foodi and love it. It is a slow cooker, an air fryer and pressure cooker in one. I always love multipurpose appliances.
This video finally convinced me get rid of plastic cutting boards I use for meat. Got a glass one instead. Should have done this a long time ago.
Oh this is so smart! I only use the plastic one for meat and couldn’t figure out an alternative because I will not put my raw meat on the wood board.
@@kristinotto102same!! Especially chicken.. I could never put that on wood. But glass!! 😯😯 I’m adding that to my cart now! I didn’t know they even had glass cutting boards
Add to your cart also new knives - glass board would destroy them :(
I HATE sponges too...
I watched though however i won't again so many others who give advise and ideas without the - I'm so clever ¿
i agree. it's very much like Applaud me for not having a stand mixer and you're stupid for having one.
@@abimollentze7221😂
7:39 'pierogi' ❤😂 greetings from the homeland of pierogi -Poland
Honestly love my slow cooker for church day meals or times when I'm out of the house and short on time, but pressure cooker we bought this year and that's because I'm starting to do more canning. Also don't have much of the "norm," but struggle to get counters completely empty due to size of kitchen vs our family size (9), but working towards that in the future. Also no stand mixer here, don't even use the handheld very often :/
I bought the bread maker you have and LOVE it for bread. Could you do a video making the alternative items for it? 😊
Your outfits, your hair, your kitchen, your positivity, EVERYTHING! I just adore you 💛 thank you for being such a bright light!
I don’t find her positive at all. She comes from a place of superiority and passive aggressively puts down those who live differently than her.
I don’t find her positive at all. She comes from a place of superiority and passive aggressively puts down those who live differently than her.
I would love a video on how to use a bread machine! I purchased the one you suggested and haven’t used it one time! 😢
Where do you cook your food if you don’t have an oven or a stove? Just curious
A lot of our foods don't require one but we have an air fryer, slow cooker and toaster oven when we do cook our food. Usually in the winter well use them but sometimes summer calls for a pizza party outside 😂
@@TheFranklinFramhouse wow that is just so different from my family I use the stove every day and the oven almost every day
@@emily57644 I absolutely get that! I grew up using the stove/oven all the time. But with it gone, I really don't miss it. I have a hot plate that I bring out as needed but that's mostly just for meal prep or spur of the moment meals.
Great video and good ideas to help minimise! Thank you, I enjoy your chat!
Hello OG Sarah! Hehe been watching you since the old days and you are a HUGE inspiration. Great vid ❤
things I dont have is a microwave or any type of paper products.
I followed you yesterday 🎉.
I enjoyed your video. I just wanted you to know. I like your peaceful vibe. Thank you
An instant pot can be all of thoes first 3 items i use mine for significantly more than just that too but yes i value liss being more
Everyone has to do what is good for them
I love my air fryer. It makes making grilled chicken super easy and that’s what I eat for lunch .
I couldn’t agree more! Actually you just inspired me to go and declutter as soon as possible! 💜
I'm so happy you came back to youtube im loving the new content its so wholesome ❤❤
No knife on my counter top, no air frier and even no wood board. I like it free with some flower from time to time 😁 By the way I love your cardigan. Where did you get it?
I love my stand mixer but, it gets tucked away into our storage bench when I don't use it. I'm not a fan of appliances on the counters either.
Love the advice, Sarah. Can you please let me know where you got that cute toaster? Love the color!
dont you have a blue air fryer in the back right corner there from Our PLace that you did a video on??
Plastic cutting boards also dill your knives.
I would love to see more videos like this!
lol I have the same exact water bottle next to me as I'm typing! was a gift from two dear friends and I LOVE it!!
Please tell me where you got your apron! It took me forever to get rid of my plastic cutting boards too haha! My hold up was finding a wooden one without glue. Then I finally got to the point where I was like what is worse? Glue or plastic shavings?
I keep my stand mixer in my pantry but I do use it everyday. Don’t own a bread mixer.
Fun!
