I'm obsessed with the F80/F82. Can't stop thinking about M3 vs M4. DCT vs manual. Factory competition pack vs personal customization. Your videos have been very helpful.
Ian Collins thanks!! That’s really good to hear
Get an f10 or f12 :P
Nice video. Was fun that night see those cars on dyno
Been a Honda boy all my life. Recently been eyeing the M3s and man 550+whp on a tune and down pipes is crazy. Then again it is twin turbo. Going to finish paying my CTR and getting one after. Great video.
It’s an amazing platform !
Great video Tommy L! Very informative. You are the first to put up the comparisons between stock and JB4 that in my opinion are not flawed or designed to sale a product. Keep up the GREAT WORK! Already have the JB4 tune but haven't installed the downpipe. Video takes away the guesswork and JB4 is worth it due to customization.
Tazmn Wilson nice! Glad it was helpful. It’s really hard to beat the price of that tune, especially if you extract a “safe” 85 HP gain
Tommy L Garage installed the tune a few weeks ago but haven't done a dyno. Waiting on downpipe installation. Safe tuning is priority.
Tazmn Wilson the downpipes will make your car sound really good.
I have a 2017 F80 Comp w/ Dinan S1. It's pretty fast. With rear wheel drive you can't make much use out of any more hp. It's a monster on the track, once the tires are hot. On the road you can't get them quite warm enough. To add to that, I live in Vancouver, where it rains all of the time.
Nicely said. I actually removed my tune and now only run cold start delete
Tight vid bro! Logically sound hp gains.
Michael Monroe thanks!
Another great video very informative. The only variable you are not accounting for is transmission. Manual cars always dyno higher than dct cars which is probably why your stock car ran a higher number than his DP only run.
Mod2Fame Vlog The Godfather himself watches my videos! I’m honored. Great point and the guy did mention it to me. I wonder if the torque is attributed more to the DP or gearbox type.
Tommy L Garage I always watch your videos, we have to support each other
Mod2Fame Vlog right back at ya. Can’t compete with your quality and quantity but the inspiration is there.
420 at wheels stock is pretty darn nice.
Thanks. I’m happy with it
Hehehe 420...
These BMW owners are power greedy
Informative video! So your next video shows an installation of a JB4? ;-) !!!
Jack Ketch haha maybe. Or a custom tune perhaps ? ;)
I have a 2015 f80 M3 with no downpipes with a custom tune and a front mount cold air intake I had consistent runs of 509 whp and 550 wtq
Impressive !!
Thanks Tommy for answering the question FB couldn’t answer 🫡⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Happy to help!!!!
@@TommyLGarage when asking via fb folks go ham stating no blah blah blah 🤦🏾♂️ go BM not to knock them but when the dealership updated my dme in Jan i had to go a whole different route. Now i know and thats 1/2 the battle again thanks for the detailed video 🫡💪🏾
Thanks for the video. I proudly own an F80 M3 with Upgraded Charge Pipes, Downpipes, Burger Intake, and JB4 mods. Have always wondered what numbers I could likely expect on a Dyno. Estimated somewhere around the 490 whp on MAP 2 based on log runs from the JB4. I want to upgrade the exhaust but don't think that I will get much of a performance upgrade at this point but more of an auditory upgrade over the stock exhaust. Very interesting video to me and excellent job.
Phillip Weems thanks. I’m glad it was informative. You’re probably Around 490 or so at the wheels, which is pretty decent and fairly safe apparently.
I am probably gonna stop there because at some point you surpass the reason the car was engineered/built for. It is meant to be balanced and fun to drive with strong acceleration and lateral maneuverability. Of course, the red blooded American in me wants more and more horsepower but I find that the traction control engages at high torque values/power delivery and when disabled in MDM it becomes a complete monster. An awesome monster, but still a monster. I am not a novice driver but don't want to endanger myself and others on the highway. If I were straight up tracking this car every weekend, then I would be singing a different song. Love this car.
Phillip Weems I don’t blame you. That’s probably the right thing to do. I will keep mine stock for now since I track it a few times a year. And the thing with any power is that you get used to it so quickly and always want more
is yours manual like god intended or DCT?
Hi, Tommy been following your channel for a while now & decided to chime in to inform us, viewers. If you're using a piggyback like a JB4, they can't tell you had it on if you remove it before going to the dealership. How can that void your warranty? And the JB4 map 1 gives you about 4 psi of boost, while map 2 gives you about an additional 6.5 psi. Map 2 is safe to run with downpipes as your EGT doesn't get as hot. The S55 can handle close to 22psi before having to upgrade the turbos on FBO. Which means if you upgrade air intakes (which gets rid of the air boxes and sucks more air), downpipes (lowers pressure and decreases EGT), charge pipes (gets rid of that narrow plastic to increase flow), and exhaust (gets rid of more back pressure for more power up in the RPM >5400), then you'll get something closer to 540 HP. Anything higher than that, you'll need to upgrade the turbos. There is no way you can make 562 HP stock turbos on a 3.0 displacement. Ask the dyno guy if that 562hp-595tq run was on stock turbos? If he says yes on stock turbos, you're looking for a disaster waiting to happen. And as for a custom tune for $2,500, I would run so fast, Bolt! couldn't catch me. I would go with bootmod3 ECU tune for $700; the feeling would be so much better than a piggyback, as it'll be controlling more than boost. You'll be pushing close to 470 HP without any modification to the wheels. Then move up from the OTS maps, and custom tune it yourself if you know how to tune or pay a tuner ($200-300) to tune it to your car (mods, gas, etc). You can also which maps once you unlock your ECU. So let's say you're going to the track and want to put 100 octane, then switch maps for more power. If you want to put e85, you can switch your map and gain another 30+ hp on top of the increase you're making now as e85 has a higher octane level. It's all about pulling the right timing depending on what gas (octane) you use. This will determine what boost to target at what load (DME tables). And you don't have to pull the ECU out as everything is done through the OBD2 port. If you had a DCT, you can also upgrade the software on the transmission to the M4 GTS, which can handle more torque. And the software is also included for the $700. Also Ray higher base torque curve attributes more to the DCT than the downpipes. Anyways, that's my 2 cents. Thanks for the videos.
Jerry Pena great points and thanks for taking the time to put in all the detail. The tune he mentioned was in stock turbos. Can’t speak to the longevity but this guy is fairly known in the tuning community. Now, regarding JB4 being undetectable to the dealer - I’ve asked a few people who work at the dealer and they confirmed that they can always tell. They look at boost logs etc, which tells them that the car has been modified, even though the equipment is uninstalled.
Really good info by the way; you seem to know your stuff.
Good break down on modding the F80👍
Thank you for the comparison. For me, the tune and something like an axle-back or DPs isn’t about GAINZ, but about knocking the dust off the factory-tuned setup. These cars just *feel* better with a stage I and a sound mod imho. In short, totally worth the minute risk.
But then the warranty...you’re making me think! Haha
Was waiting for this video
Manpreet Hari thoughts? Would you go with jb4?
Tommy L Garage yes i would Rays car was just amazing
Agreed
Great video well done
Yea u cant go wrong with the jb4 i just started using it and its definitely the most bang for buck mod u can do on any turbo car
Yes that’s totally true. I went with a custom tune just to eliminate cold start. Can’t do it with JB4
Bm3 blows this caveman tech out the water.....
Lmao
Very impressive 424 bhp at the wheels around 475 bhp engine/crank stock is really good.
Agreed. I was surprised
I’m watching all the old Ray videos lol
About time!!
Exhaust sound reminds me of E46
M3
Mike Mike yes. You do not hear it inside the car but outside it surely does.
amazing video!!
Luis Body Shop thanks! Glad you like it
Well done man! Let’s meet up soon, weather is finally about to break!
JCR Services sounds good!
Great video! no downpipe needed, just needs bootmod3
Rob Fsociety I’m too chicken to void my warranty
i'll see you at M breakfast club soon :) @bmwx4m40i on IG
Rob Fsociety Sounds good. Maybe even this weekend
Should upgrade the down pipes
Def makes me want a manual m3 more than a dct m3 even though it’s barely noticeable lol
Manual is the way to go
Great video. Jb4 increase torque for sure but in not that much improvement in horsepower. Good to know that. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Bootmod3 is the way to go
Nice video Tommy, what exhaust tips are you running?
Schuey they’re made by Burger Tuning. Gloss black.
Thanks Tommy, any colour fading on those tips over time? For what it's worth, I think the JB4 power hike is worth the money. For me, it's a safer increased power/torque option in Map 1 and 2 compared to going very high up on the power and torque figures with custom tunes where you're putting greater load on the gearbox and turbos. 8 Map options on the JB4 with a customisable map (which is comparable to custom tunes for power/torque), very clever piece of tech compared to other piggy back options. PS - Im not affiliated with BMS, I just like the product.
Well just the jb4 map 1 doesn't void warranty if they don't know? I assume the down pipes do... if nothing ever goes bad on the engine and or other parts then yes, very worth it. Lol
You know simply adding a little more boost won't void your warranty. Unless you have it specifically in black and white(which i doubt)
Dante Planeta it’s a thin line. You could claim your car is overboosting for no reason
Good comparison!
Thanks! And thanks for watching!!
Interested in doing a coding video together perhaps? :)
Email me :) info@kiesmotorsports.com
Great video. Can you give me the turners information? I would like to have me car tuned.
This was a jb4 tune. And the tuner is a guy on IG KevinDoesntLift
That's the 1st American I've seen that can change gear in a Manuel properly
Haha thanks. Well I grew up in Poland and learned how to drive on a tractor - maybe that’s why! Thanks for watching!!
Dam dog is that kaneu reves at 2:27
Haha you’re right!
I’m gonna have to get mine custom tuned.
Will be a beast!
Yeah men Great video !!
advice learn how to make some cinematic lock footage it will be awesome
ما القصة؟ good advice. I need to get more artsy.
He’s gonna need a larger intercooler or a larger heat exchanger to keep that power in the real world outside of a dyno pull.
Good call!
Finally i can see how much HP&Torque jb4 can actually add to my 430i GC 255 stock about 337/340 hp hhhhmmm with the same set up as Rays car DP cai & JB4
It will be awesome!
big reason in whp difference btwn dct and 6spd is boost lost between shifts tuning should almost eliminate the issue
AARAUJO88 very true. That’s exactly what the guy said.
Tommy did the guy say the manual makes more horse power or the DCT?? I was Thinking surely the DCT makes more power top end with that extra gear been 7 speed vs 6.. That guy sounds like he doesn't know what hes talking about. Or maybe its just me thats wrong
Can you put the numbers in the description?
Curious to understand why your horsepower numbers are higher than torque? These cars normally generate more torque than whp. I dyno'd 396-400 whp and 405-415 ft/lb on 70 degree outside temp w a/bad MAF sensor and leaking intercooler.
Forgot to say that I was stock, and dyno session was my 3rd day into owning the car. Decided to put her on the dyno to check how healthy she was since mine was 2nd hand and 2016 w/low mileage.
Did they test in 4th or 5th gear? 5th is 1 to 1 in both transmissions. 4th gear isn't the same between them.
Great question..i'm not quite sure but i'll be sure to get it done in 5th next time
Which alloys are you running on the manual M3, they look amazing. Where are they from
Oem 513M wheels powder coated black. And thanks !!
Tommy, how can I get a copy of the custom JB4 map that you guys were using in the video above?
It was tweaked on the spot and is custom for every car
Wait so the boost increase tune at end gained 8hp but lost 44 torque? Come on who would ever want that. The 44 torque would make a world of difference over the not noticeable 8hp
Agreed
Bought my GTI a year and a half ago and in 5 or 6 months voided the warranty with a tune and never looked back lol. Crossing my fingers I’ll never need to use my warranty. On the plus side though, the dealership I bring my car to is “tuner” friendly lol. I did the JB4 first and was happy with it for awhile. But then went with a custom tune via accesport
Mark7 GTI Bought my gti in December and it already have a bigger turbo installed in it. Getting upgraded fuel system within a month and going for around 475-500 whp on pump gas
@@techmaster777 Nice, I'll be happy with just 400whp. I'm is38 right now and making 370whp and 380wtrq. It's quick for what it is. But, I'm also interested on doing slipstream so my next goal will be 550whp to 600whp. That's not happening anytime soon though lol...
BTW, just subscribed on your page
Mark7 GTI thx man, yeah for sure! The is38 is a great deal it's just not as good at top end pull as the one I got haha. I'm really happy with the turbo it performs amazing even though I'm still on a base tune. It's putting down around 415 whp rn I'd guess, can do 60-130 mph in high 9 second range rn wanting to get that down to the mid 7 second range..
@@techmaster777 what turbo are you running?
Just go with a dinan tune.
Too expensive. Going with bootmod3
Just has to be said true only 50hp but he made 100ft lbs of torque more and that's what will win a race at the end of the day
Very true indeed
That is a lot of dif. You can feel 50 hp for sure and 100 lbs of torque is a pusher backer baby!!
hmm the numbers kinda low for the JB4 with downpipes , any reason ?
It wasn't tuned properly
what fuel was that on the jb4 car.
Stock 93
I thought the stock M3 Comp was supposed to make 444? Really thinking about tuning but I'm also afraid of voiding the warranty
Yes stock zcp makes 444 at the crank but there’s drivetrain loss
Sean Taylor 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ if you think crank and whp are the same an M is to much car for you lol
Rickyohh yeah I got it now
Why not just get a dinan tune, from what I believe those don't void the warranty.
Ali Hashimi currently saving up for it.
Because dinan is a rip off. Would cost you 4x as much money.
Have you dealt with bootmod3, if so do you have a tutorial vid of it?
Yes. Running it now. Video Coming soon!
@@TommyLGarage Thank you very much. Will definitely see it when it's posted. I can't seem to find one that is fully detailed, and I'm sure you'll deliver it. Can't wait for it.
Who would run caveman tech jb4 in an f80....wayyy better options
Bootmod3?
@@TommyLGarage %100
@@TommyLGarage maybe they didn't have s55 bm3 at the time though idk
Is jb4 worth it?
I’d go bootmod3.
I read that a zcp m4 with downpipes should run map 3 over 1, true?
Jay M hhmmm not sure. But from what the dunk snowed is - you might be right.
how is that possible 562 whp cant be real? with custom tune
ADVISORY Sverige where did you see 562?
It’s 496 whp
Tommy L Garage at 8:20 when u talk about the custom tune, u show a dyno with that
mpowertwin ohhhh this was him showing me what he did by custom tuning. And yes that’s what he told me. Stock turbos etc just a custom tune. I haven’t seen that car but the tuner is apparently very well known in the industry...
thats hard to belive with regular octane? custom tune that i have from ess tuning is 475 whp
ADVISORY Sverige the only thing I can vouch for is that the other car - a 2018 ZCP with downpipes and a custom jb4 tune pulled 496WHP. I witnessed it and that is what the graph showed.
bootmod3 all day. jb4 is too inconsistent when you pull up a data log during pulls.
and a custom tune from 1 of their tuners only runs you $500 for a tune that will put you at about 560-600 WHP.
💙💛💚🧡 Awesome 💙💛💚🧡
Thanks!
so does that M3 have a turbo or supercharger on it, you did not say, well i didn't hear it or missed it.
It’s a twin turbo
is this on SAE rated or standard?
Paul DE GUZMAN I’m not sure. Will try to find out. Sorry
you dont lose warranty whit jb4 and downpipe ?? thanks
Yes If they find out about it and if it caused the issue
If you don't want to void warranty just remove the JB4 and re-install your original Catalytic converter. The JB4 doesn't leaves footprint.
Even 400 HP is plenty
Something is up here. I put mine on the dyno with a JB4, exhaust, BUT NO DOWNPIPES. and i was at 547whp on map 7. why was his so low? i honestly dont know.
conner_a_jackson Is map 7 custom tuned? I’m asking because the guy told us these cArs could be custom tuned to about 550 or so
Map 6 is custom tune. Map 7 is a race map which needs downipes. I ran it without downpipes and was completely fine though, and had some incredible gains from it.
conner_a_jackson hhmm ill share it with my friend. Thanks for the pointer!
547 whp ha ha what a load of shit dyno tells you lies.
This one may be a heart break dyno and yours may have over read lol. But the 49x he had seems very reasonable for a plug and play. Funny thing is, this is stage 1 bootmod3 numbers lol. Crazy what an actual flash does
sae rated number or standard?
SAE (I think) ... whatever the factory recommends :)
Jb4 is enough to use, no need a custom tune
You get more out of your engine with a custom tune
What type of air fuel ratios were sering with the jb4 and what was the air-fuel ratios with the custom tune?
H Miller not sure but I will be looking at the logs this weekend.
I have seen auto 435-440
Totally believable.
Jb4 doesn’t void warranty
It does.
Tommy L Garage just take it off before u go to the dealership.
Tommy L Garage bc my friend had a jb4 turbo fucked up took his jb4 off and got it warrantied out and got all new turbos
How does it come that almost all the M3’s non competition in germany pull ~440 - 485whp stock?
Must be nice living in an imaginary land!! ;)
Tommy L Garage man im not talking trash.. look Simon Motorsport on RUclips, the last stock M4 pulled 490 PS on the dyno.. havent seen one with less than 440 PS.. maybe its because we got 102 octane idk
iChAaOzZ I'm pretty fucking positive you guys don't have 102 octane gas at the pumps if you do it's probably near 15 dollars a gallon. We have race gas here in America too what's your point. Putting race gas in a car that's not tuned for it will not even make much of a difference.
techmaster777 we have got 102 octane in Aral gas stations and 1L sells for 1,50€ atm
techmaster777 and as i said theres no F80 ive seen which pulls less than 440PS stock.. im not talking trash i just want to know how this comes
You cant compare a manual vs automatic car...
How come ?
Wow shocked if that's real ain't the comp package like 440 ish at the crank how in the world is it only losing 20 hp to the wheels. Cant say for sure but dam that has to be a very generous dynamometer. Not sure how the m3 could be that under rated from factory. Just as an example the dyno I go to a stock dodge hellcat with no tune will put down 635 whp 600 rwt with a bit of push pull on either side seen a little more and less from a dyno jet dyno and those cars come stock crank 707 hp 650 tourqe
It’s a known fact that Bmw underrates their cars from the factory.
Auto is much faster than manual. No comparison
No question about it
2500$ lol lord 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
That's exactly what I said!!!!😂... I guess is because is a BMW
Better include a new ecu!
E85 it and do another run
Mmmmmm perhaps
geez, tough one...
Ed Kay stock feels powerful enough for me at this point. It’s nice to have warranty
Tommy L Garage i agree. what does the warranty cover if u know by any chance?
Ed Kay everything bumper to bumper. No clutch and no brakes. Other than that everything. Even bushings and shocks
Tommy L Garage i see! thanks for the heads-up tommy!!
DCT > MANUAL. In terms of speed and power the DCT is better this “professional” should know that🤦🏾♂️ there is no human in the world that can outshift a DCT
Of course
Just so you know. Idk why the tuner thinks otherwise
what type of fuel was you running with the JB4?
93 octane
JB4?
Its 2019 you better BootMod3 that thing
He’s already done that along with pure turbos :)
Hi do 420bhp at wheels. Do you know what that relates to in bhp at flywheel. ?
Around 460
