How much Power does our 152,000 mile E92 M3 really make? - Dyno runs + Spark Plug Change
HTML-код

- During the first drive Imran said the car felt a bit flat to him, and having driven hundreds of different E9x M3's over the years he tends to have a pretty good feel for them.
So before we get started, lets put the car on the dyno and see just how much power its making!

3hp crank drop after 152k miles. Thats incredibly impressive and shows how strong S65s are with maintenance.
Dang man, you just spoiled the result for me right from the first second of the vid
Nevermind though, cuz I love this car and this engine as well
This is awesome, my E90 M3 has 151k and I changed the spark ⚡️ plugs about 5k a go and noticed a big difference! Now I know why!
@@hoss1988 had you left your spark plugs in for 30/40k too?
@@hoss1988 Also want to know the mileage on your old plugs.
WOW, For 152K miles, it did really well, shows how good these cars are when they are looked after
So interesting explaining the relationship between ignition settings and power made, and what difference such a simple change makes.
I'm actually surprised that such a drop in ignition timing on the top end (10* almost) didn't result in much more of a power drop.
Given the mileage, it is extremely impressive for such a high strung engine to be producing virtually factory quoted HP figures.
Thanks for showing the timing...love the detail you guys give and it's good to see a "seemingly" well taken care of high mileage S65 can still produce strong power! Makes me feel much better about having my E90 & E92 S65's!
Thats my dream right there man. I have and e90 m3 for practical use but I want an e92 im my garage!
Everyone ordering plugs now 😂😂
Props for the less tangible aspects of your channel. No unnecessary footage, good music, clear info and a dope intro.
Really enjoying this series. The level of detail you are going into is second to none. I like how the videos are demonstrating where your money is well spent. Well done guys.
amazing, this channel is a new found gold mine for me at least. keep up the production quality and attention to detail!
You da champs for not splitting this into a before and after vid. Although it'd be interesting to overlay a dyno run from your other E92.
Such an informative video. As always really well explained and presented. Great to hear that performance hasn't dropped after so many miles
Really like this content ... it's pure information, facts and explanation and none of the YT BS with showoff, yelling and annoying bits and pieces ... !!! Really refreshing to not have annoying people presenting stuff!
That’s very respectful for such a high mileage car. Comes to show you these motors are very well built and quite robust!
Really interesting, loving this series guys! Looks like you found a decent example given the mileage 👍
Fantastic video. Great to see the data and before/after results.
fantastic results, spark plugs made a difference for sure, nice in depth content GG
Fascinating video. Amazing how changing the plugs gave another 13hp off the bat. I will have to check when my plugs were last changed in mine now 😊
Love it! Awesome to see the car still making power numbers like that after 152k Thanks for the info, need to check out my plugs.
Brilliant explanation, really worth going into the extra detail. Thanks, Imran.
Wonderful channel with great content. Keep up the E9x M3 content. Great learning.
Great video. Interesting to see the differences on the graphs and how much spark plugs can effect performance 👍🏻.
Loved it.. Love that you took time in explaining the reasons behind everything.. Awesome work 👌
super informative video, more of these please! Well explained with clean edit!
Great series of following not only brand new cars and their potential :) Thank you!
Great content very detailed information. It's great to see people that actually know what there doing making videos rather than the normal utube stuff
Realy loving the videos on the e92 m3, as im looking at buying my first one and there’s no low mileage for sale arround,
keep up with the videos
Really interesting video guys. It’s all very well doing remaps, exhausts and intakes, but you have to start with the basics. Perfect example of that here.
Another great video Imran , Plugs make a world of difference, especially after 40k miles, I have a 32 yr old Volvo and it was sluggish and so i did an oil change with plugs, rotor , distributor cap and air filter with a fresh tank of 97 RON fuel CDN GAS SUCKS , i didn't gain any power it just ran smoother and i now get almost 50 more miles to a tank of gas, so it was beneficial and it all cost less than $ 100 🏎
Very educational Imran, top work.
Loves these informative videos….you can really learn something 👍🏽
This is awesome, my E90 M3 has 151k and I changed the spark ⚡️ plugs about 5k a go and noticed a big difference! Now I know why!
Great figures and results for that mileage on the car 👌 love it .
Excellent informative video. Nice to understand the influence of plugs on timing. Not bad for 150 k. Shows the quality of BMW engineering and how they will last if looked after.
Great vid, the knowledge and info are spot on.
Loving the content on this E92 M3 amazing work Imran. Can't believe my guess was also same as yours 390bhp 😂😂 once the work has been done just needs detailing and it's as good as gold 😁👌
Great video, it just sparked some thought in my mind. I could use with some extra horses 🐎 and I'm considering getting a new set of spark plugs
A really informative video. Great upload. Thank you!
Love this content. Interested in how this car will be at the end
Very informative video. Love the content and your products. Keep up the great work👍
Absolutely awesome video! I loved the detail from the logs and the explanation. More of these are welcome, when you guys have time.
A a petrol head that works in IT, I was glued to the screen!
Top notch content.
Great video! I just checked and mine were done by BMW at 157k miles (at least, the invoice says they were done...), otherwise, I would have ordered a set straight away!
What a fantastic video, thanks guys!
Good informative video chaps - keep it up
BMW ///M division always made very good engines and very reliable.despite the haters the M engines are the best...
Lol
E9x m3 content> vs any other content! Great Great video! Could you maybe do a dyno with say 102 octane on stock DME that would be great. Thank you for the e9x m3 content!
I would definitely be interested in the 102 octane comparison, having used it during my last 2 trips to Germany. My car felt much stronger after an extended run on the autobahn.
Thanks for that update can’t wait to see what you do next 👍
Jp
Excellent video! Well explained. 👍
Very interesting and informative love these vids👍
WOW, nice, just plug change. Looking forward to the new ECU remap
Awesome,look like youve got a healthy ///M there brother🇩🇪👊
Didnt expect this m3 to have such heart 🔥
For such high mileage, that's pretty good power!
Very interesting. I did the same on my 92 M3 this week + idle control valve, throttle actuators, fuel tank breather, road bearings $$ But it’s a must to do
How much did all that cost you?
I love your channel. Very professional and scientific approach. You tick every box and met all my expectations😉. May be some day I would have a decent "M" BMW that it is worth driving down to you across the Irish sea to get some upgrades done🤞
I love this series !
Loving the E92 M3 content
Great video guys. Really well explained. I’ve got a Monte Carlo M3 with just 39k on clock. My sensible head says I should really sell to help fund a new business but this series is really making me want to keep it! Keep up the good work.
Business and growth more important than the car!
In the same boat… Love her!!!
Very educational video thanks guys nice :)
I confirm no correlation between mileage & power for this car. I had my second e92 m3 with +100k miles and it feels more powerfull than the 1st own (low mileage 30k miles)
I also loved the EDC option in daily (I sold my old one because has too "harsh" suspensions)
Very informative. I want to see a before and after eventuri plenum + airbox
There is a detailed video on our channel about the intake including datalogs and dyno. The plenum doesn't make any power and has never been advertised as doing so.
Wow really nice informations! Thanks!
Excellent video and info. Got me thinking how long since my plugs have been changed on my E92 M3 now. Can you do a follow up with a Evolve tune added too please.
We will tune it in good time, but are focusing on the suspension/maintenance first,
Really great video, thank you for showing us the data. How does this compare to you red E92?
Awesome video, love the data!
Great vids imran.
Way more than I was expecting 👏 compression test next.. what spark plugs did you guys use?
I predicted 398 earlier today and mentally after the spark plug change
406, so 411 was a bit of a surprise, I suppose the bottom line is that if one spark plug gets oiled up you need to keep an eye on it
Thank you all for yet another amazing video ❤
Awesome detail
For a 11 year old e92 m3 it’s more than decent
I really need to bring my e90 M3 to you. Have a air leak in the manifold and cylinder 5 misfire. It has been booked in with grosvenor reading. After watching few of your videos should have booked in with you.
Excellent video, to the point and detailed information. Would be interesting to see the AFR's from both runs as well.
AFR before and after was the same as the ECU is targeting a certain value, so is adjusting fuelling as necessary.
@@EvolveAutomotive How many maps does the S65 have for fuelling ? A couple of part throttle closed loop and a WOT fixed value map ?
@@simonhanlon7518 It also has ITBs, so that complicates maps a bit too, since low load/throttle will get inaccurate data from map (not sure how it is with MAFs).
@@hojnikb True it has ITBs but all 8 share a common plenum and it doesn’t have a MAF, I’m pretty sure it’s Alpha N with map compensation . I’m just curious as to why timing is closed loop ( plug monitored ) at WOT if the fuel is a fixed value . There shouldn’t be any need to vary the timing if the mixture is fixed .
@@simonhanlon7518 I'm surpised that a modern engine like S65 doesn't use MAF, but i'm sure there's good reason for doing so.
As for timing at WOT; plenty of reasons why you want to still adjust timing. Bad fuel, high IATs, poor plugs etc...
Great video
love that car and engine so much!
Intro is sick
Question! What do you use to log ignition timing and the knock table?
And can high mileage ignition coils also rob power on the S65?
Excellent video! Awesome job! Do all modern BMW engines use ionic knock control?
Only the S65/S85
That intro tho 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Fantastic content 👍.
Hi Imran, sorry was this filmed at Evolve HQ? Great video btw.
No this was filmed at Dream Automotive, our old unit/dyno!
You should work your magic on the f30 3 litre diesels (330d/335d) and test them to their limits👌
Great video👍👍👍
Awesome! This is amazing data and I've got very interested in this evidence. Spark plug is crucial parts for engine performance isn't it. As far as I know BMW recommends spark plug must be changed every 37kmiles. What is your recommendation for spark plug change interval?
If wanting peak performance every 10k miles
Very interesting and useful video, good to see your plug change backed up by dyno figures and ignition curve. I wonder what the mileage cut off point should be for plugs from a performance perspective? (vs BMWs service change interval of every 3rd oil change, so I think a max of 45k miles?).
If you’re after maximum performance every 10-15k miles would be our recommendation but it depends on usage.
That was very very interesting.
Do you service and check normal everyday BMWs like 320i? Issues with one so need to get it sorted.
🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻👏🏻 Considering that this car is supposed to come with about 400hp from factory, on paper, and also with 40 NM of torque, this 150 mile e92 M3 Still got it, and is probably in pretty good shape, Awesome video. the spark plugs made such a difference.
It's actually 420HP. so it only lost ~10HP at the most.
@@hojnikb could be because of the piston rings ,the wear after that mileage
@@naimjacobs2372 most likely, yes. Or just slight dyno error, these things aint 100% perfect.
@@hojnikb it's actually 420ps (414bhp)
2 questions - are the power/torque figures corrected for temperature (30c ambient versus 15c, which is reference temperature...I think)? And why is the ignition advance curve so “jagged” even with the new plugs? I would have expected a smoother, more consistent figure. Is something else going on to cause this?
Which v8 should I buy, the e92 or the f10 m5?
The problem with the s65 now is that in this day, it just isn't as fast. A regular s3 would keep up with the e92 m3
Going to change my plugs now 😅
Did you gap plugs and if so what width?
Nice info !
what keyboard is does he have in his lap, I have been looking for a good one
Great vid
Are you bringing any of your BMWs to Simply BMW at Beaulieu 19th September? 👍🏻
Excellent video 👏
Just a question, how would you find the 1:1 gear in your car?
Hmmmm, you guys don't apply a little never seize on the spark plug threads?
Super interesting vid 👍
Sick car 👌🏻 so much more special than the new turbo M3’s proper M car’s are NA
