In truth, photographers these days are totally spoilt for choice. There is no such thing as a bad camera on the market now; even 10 year old cameras are just as capable as those on sale new. Combined with advance editing software and AI upscaling technologies, even 20 year old cameras can turn out fabulous images. It really depends on the photographer's preference and genre of photography. I just ignore all the marketing hype, use what I like and simply enjoy creating images.

Tiny 24mp APSC bodies with sharp inexpensive pancake lenses are huge improvements for me. But then I use it for copying flat art or transparencies and other technical uses. On the same low budget 10 or 15 years ago the camera/lens always disappointed in the end. Mirrorless is a big improvement.

Yes to X-pro4 and reworked compact XF lenses!! . The top front button Fn1 CAN be assigned to AF-ON for back button-AF on the X100V, X100VI and X-T5 etc. that's how I set all mine .

Well balanced review, great images & entertaining narrative - thanks once more for sharing your thoughts and advice!
Yours is the most thoughtful and fundamental video channel on RUclips. And that means something.
Merry Christmas and happy new year to you

I've recently purchased the X100VI, my first Fujifilm camera in fact having used every other system out there. Not going to lie, my curiosity for Fujifilm and this particular camera's hype were equally the reason why I purchased it. I've shot around 1000 images so far so its still early days. Initially I hated it, hated the ergonomics ( so I bought a smallrig grip ), hated the menu system and generally didn't like the shooting experience. I shoot full manual on all my cameras so I should have loved this but faffing about with the dials and aperture was just not for me. I'm very much a " command dial " shooter having been used to my other mirror less and DSLR bodies in the past. I've got the Fuji set up now where my front command dial does double duty, turn it and my aperture changes. Push it in then turn it and my ISO changes. Finally my rear command dial is assigned to shutter speed. I'm much happier now. My rear command dial is also set up so if I push it in it activates back button focus. This works well for me and I enjoy shooting it this way much more. So all the retro dials are totally wasted on me I guess however I like how it looks 😊 My main negative is I've found that while the AF tracking seems very sticky on the subjects eye, it's often a false positive. That is to say the subjects eye isn't in absolutely sharp focus. I've just updated the camera with the latest firmware so keen to see if that improves things. That 40MP APSC sensor certainly gives very detailed images. The jury is still out for me as to whether this is a long term keeper. 🙂

I fully agree with you on the two main points, the useless retro dials and autofocus issues. I have an X-T3 and I find these retro dials baffling and totally redundant, especially the ISO and exposure compensation dials. This is the reason why other camera manufacturers did not use these. Remember, old analogue cameras do not have these too! Take a look at old Canon, Nikon and Olympus top plates; they are very simple. My X-T3's autofocus seems to behave just like your X100vi. I can never rely on it, so it tend to take two or three shots, just to make sure I get a keeper.

    • @_shaqz_
      @_shaqz_ Месяц назад +3

You will see a great improvement in tracking with the new update. No more false positives and really really sticky. It feels so good! Also the AF-S seem to be a bit faster too! 🤔

I thoroughly enjoyed shooting the original X100 ! However, with a pancake xf 27mm on any of the X-E’s I get the same results in basically the same size with the ability to change lenses with other outstanding Fuji lenses for less money.

    Hi Craig,
Spoke to the local dealer, tried for a mkV. Asked about the VI and a huge waiting list.
Will look for something that I can get in alternative.
Much as I enjoyed my fuji point and squirt, if Fuji cannot supply then I will go somewhere else.
Thanks for all your efforts this year. DAVE B.

It's a great camera, I just got mine which has been back ordered so long I'd forget about it in between updates.(last April). I have the X100S as well and I prefer the controls on that. Also old Fuji's made in Japan, there's a difference in build quality. One thing x100 series cameras do that few people seem to use is the built in high speed flash sync. The leaf shutter enables this with the built in flash, so it makes for a lot of creative fun with with just the camera alone. I think I'll keep it, unlike the X-H2s I returned because of AF issues. Overall it makes for a great carry around camera, but the GR is a lot lighter and cheaper I think they have leaf shutters also, not sure. The 50mm crop is a 20MP image so quite usable.

This Fuji is a camera I have wanted to try myself. But will continue to use my Pen EP-5 for now. Maybe someday, but doubt OM will wake up and release a new Pen the Olympus users are begging for. Similar to the Fuji folks wanting that new X-pro. Great video tfs

watching this in bangkok with my xt4 {+thumb grip}. never fancied this new breed x100vi / xt5 - far to many mp - files sizes etc. i find the xt4 is perfectly adequate for 1:1 shooting anyway, 6 stops ibis etc. strange how many prefer flip up screen to fully articulate - i much prefer the articulate screen, which wasn't on my x100s, 100v or xt2. i loved it when i shot nikon and now the xt4 has one. thanks for the review of the x100v - i think i will simply keep my xt4 with xt2 back up and if i can i'll just replace the xt4 when required.

It's a great camera I used to have the X100V I found it rather sterile in it's output. I was very keen on my V and took 12k images with it but although the images were great something was missing. I am now much happier with my M43 set up more interesting images. I have printed much more with my M43 cameras

I used the X100 version 1 for a while but it just didn’t grab me after a while. In liked the images though, so swapped it for the XE2 and still use it as a carry camera. Interchangeable lenses was a big plus and I can use my Leica lenses with an adaptor to keep the size down, if needs be. The loss of an optical viewfinder was a minor price to pay.

I'm in total agreement with you, and I can't really see why cameras that come with a big 3 or 4" screen on the back also come with a silly little pseudo viewfinder as well. I purchased a brand new X100V a few years ago but I didn't like its silly viewfinder at all and actually sold it 12-months later for the price I paid for it as genuinely un-used.

The 50mm / megapixel reduction mode will mean you loose resolution through the glass, as it's designed primarily for 35mm equivelant 40 Megapixel light transmission.
