    It seems like Fuji have been spooked by the explosion of the X100 cameras and are completely reconfiguring the X series in response to that market, leading to strange conflicting decisions. The T50 is seemingly posited as a X100VI alternative, an attractive capable travel cam/accessory for enthusiasts (instead of an entry level tool). But why the 40MP sensor then? Couldn’t they keep it at 26MP and have the nicer EVF?
    The GFX cameras (while still being quite expensive) retain their value for money, which the X cameras are steadily losing.

      Owning both X-T10 and X-T20, as well as X-T1, I can honestly say I have never used the drive dials. @@richardhale9664 Yes, but this move is squarely aimed at jpeg shooters who like to use film sims...but to RAW shooters it is a backward step when the rest of this camer is excellent. The film sims are great for those who use them, but Fuji should have left the dial alone and coninue with the access to sims via the menu. As always, this is a very detailed review. I shoot mostly Wildlife and Sports, so my choice is the H2s. I had the 100 series, and I liked the camera, but I was always looking for another focal length. I sold my 100V, and when the X-T50 was announced, I decided to give it a try. After using it for a month, I think this camera checks many boxes for beginners and seasoned photographers. It has a full auto mode and the new sim dials. I've found that with the 40-meg sensor with the new kit lens is sharp. IBIS works well, and the best part is Fuji added customizable front and rear dials. I'm able to set this camera up almost identically to my H2s. This is my everyday walkaround camera, and it's a small powerhouse package.

    Thank you for your review.
    I’m not sold on the XT50. The biggest objection for this model is the price. I’ve seen used XT5 bodies below the MSRP. I hope Fuji will make the film sims dial programmable in firmware updates. Unlike you, I’m not that tempted to play with the film simulations. I already know what I like.
    The XT50 is smaller and lighter than the XT5. That is its major selling point. At a lower price it would, for me, be a more compelling proposition. I own a XT30 so I appreciate what the smaller size and lower weight can mean when carrying it all day. The fact that this body is so closely priced compared to a used XT5 causes me to pause. This is a competent body and hope it sells well.

      I agree, if the X-T5 can be had for a similar price, I'd go for that. Even though it's larger, it's not that much bigger and I prefer its ergonomics. But as I noted in the video, we're comparing launch price of X-T50 against discounted 1 year price of X-T5. Give it a year and there will be a gap between them.

    Hello. Excellent video review, as usual.
    Owner of a X-T20. So still comparing to it.
    Much better performance and ergonomics but I'd have liked
    1) a fixture for an interchangeable eyecup. I added a rubber eyecup to my X-T20 but it's fixed on the hot shoe, so the flash unit becomes unavailable
    2) return of a d-pad. None = 4 less customizable buttons
    3) customizable film sim dial, please: one dial dedicated to film sims REALLY???
    With the new 16-50, 1899€. Launch price but IMHO somethig like 10% less would seem more "reasonable". Maybe fear of it cannibalizing the X-T5 sales if cheaper?

      I've been shooting with Fujifilm cameras for years and personally speaking I regularly switch between my four or five favourite Film Sims every day when out and about. Again, it's differs for each person, but I personally change the Film Sim more often than the drive mode, so the dial suits me fine, but it would have been more flexible as a blank customisable one.

    HI! I need an opinion, I'm about to buy the XT 50 to travel around the world in the next few years. However, I am evaluating the right objective. Can I ask you which one do you consider best for a beginner bike? • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  20 дней назад +1

      It's a balance between range vs size and weight for me. And if you're backpacking, maybe lighter is better. The 16-80 would probably be my choice, but again it depends what you want to carry and if you have a need to zoom longer still.

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  20 дней назад +1

      @@Nixian1996 there's a lot of concern over the 40mp sensor that's not justified in my view! Basically as you increase the res of a sensor, you'll just notice differences between the lenses more. You will get more out of the 16-40 with a 40mp than a 26mp, but obviously a sharper lens will get even more still. I'd say out of the zooms, it's fine. If you want max quality out of any sensor, you'll want a sharper lens, like one of their recent primes. I really like the 23 f1.4 LM, but having just one fixed lens is a bit of a push for travel. That said, I've only travelled with my X100V which only has a 23mm lens for the last 3 years and love how it forced me to think and compose.

    As usual, the best review of the XT50 - great job Gordon. Well, my main disappointment...as a RAW shooter....is the addition of that gimmicky film sim dial. Why not leave it as accessible via the menu as before? This effectively reduces the XT50 to a jpeg shooter's camera. As most RAW shooters, I never use these presets so adding a dedicated dial that isn't even customisable is a backword step. Yes, film sims are popular to jpeg shooters and is great to have.....but not at the expense of turning a pricey, otherwise excellent camera into a dumbed down piece of kit. I wanted this camera as an everyday carry round and baby brother to my XT5...but this may just be a deal breaker

      I hear ya, but there's still the X-T30 II, albeit without IBIS.

      @@cameralabs ......And there lies the dilemma!! I really wanted the new sensor, processor and IBIS in a smaller body....the really unnecessary (in my opinion) introduction of this (un-programable) jpeg only dial is a waste of a dial for RAW. I may still get this camera because of the main benefits and try to get used to something I will never use!! If only they had made it programable. The XS10's film sim dial is blank and programable so maybe Fuji will bring out a firmware upgrade to make the film sim dial programable too

      The really bad news is that even the FS1,2,3 positions are useless to me as a jpeg shooter as I can not assign them to custom recipe slots. Meaning that even I as a jpeg shooter will have that dial permanently set to C. Fuji are just weird, they develop the firmware to enable custom recipes but then don't take the logical step of adding custom slots to a new purpose built dial.

    Hi could you please do a comparaison between the XS20 vs A6700, i can't find any reviews that go into detail like
    i would like to know the difference in Autofocus for both photo and video but also the handheld stabilization because fuji ibis is known to be bad in video and jumpy.
    handheld stabilization when walking, panning thank you

    Gordon, thank you for another excellent, balanced review. You almost convinced me that the new film sim. dial is worth having. The Drive button looks powerful enough for most purposes. My main complaint is the surplus MPs. Who really needs 40? There's so much nonsense doing the rounds about resolution. Still, Fuji seems to have got quite a lot right with this one. I have an X-T5 and am debating swopping it for the X-T50, as I like smaller bodies.
