Combining Elements - Face Paint Fundaments

- While the basic elements of linework are simple, combining them into a coherent design can feel like a nail-biting mystery. Thinking of the elements in terms of 'families' or 'clusters' gives us something reliably elegant to fall back on when we have a space to fill.
I’m going to have to refer to this when I’m practicing. I love how thorough your videos are. Definitely help me learn
I learn too when I am teaching! I think information likes to be talked about.
A real inspiration for me to practice linework. I'll come back to your video and try out some of the clusters :) Thanks for providing these ideas.
You are welcome Lilja, once you start looking for them, clusters are everywhere!!!
Line work and embellishing my design is something I struggle with, so this was great to watch. Thanks for sharing.
I'm so glad. One thing that really helps is to choose one design at a time that you feel like you struggle with, and put it on your board for "cheaper" than it should be- it will get asked for a lot, and magically it will go from a hard design, to one of your best!
You are so underrated. I think you are the best! 🙏🏾 thank you
You are amazing!! I am learning so much from you. Thank you sooooo much
I get so excited when I see you post a new video!! Your voice is just mesmerizing.. your excitement comes right through. I do practice and practice. Going to try this one too. When I do get on the job, I get nervous and my line work is such a struggle! Thank you for sharing your talent with us!!
I feel like lines are where the artist actually shows how they are feeling. I definitely have good line days and not so good line days. Way to practice- that is not easy to find the time.
Thank you so much. As a beginner, I found this an amazingly helpful video💜🙏❤️. Amanda. Xx
Amanda, I am so happy to hear it!

What an amazing and helpful video. Thank you so much Laura for sharing videos above and beyond our imagination. You are so creative and talented not just by your design, but you have a heart of a teacher. You teach so we'll, that personally I am mesmerized by it. I can wait to practice ALL this amazing clusters.

Thank you for really breaking this down. Your videos are so helpful.
So glad to hear it.
Thank you so much. These would really take my work to the next level. I have a mermaid design that is good but needs something else and I think you’ve given me the perfect idea to try. Thank you.
Great tutorial! I love your videos! Can you do one about face placement and directing the focus correctly?
That is a great idea, I would love to!
Wow. Great, practical advice. I struggle in this area and now feel I have a strategy for getting better. Thank you!
You're so welcome!
This video is wonderfully helpful.
Great tutorial thanks so much!
What a great idea to think of the linework as clusters, thanks Laura!
You bet!
And clusters even sound like fun.
Great video.
Great video yet again. Excellent teacher!!!
Thanks Maggie
Otra vez mirando sus videos son geniales 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Great tutorial, I would love to see more examples of clusters, please. Thank you.
I know! I am always looking for good new ones! Look outside of face painting and bring them in. Pin striping, linework, even wood carving- great clusters show up every where when you learn to recognize them.
Wow! Its amazing. Thank you for that great Explanation
You're welcome!
Thank you 🙏🏻 🖤🌙✨
Great video! Thanks you very much for sharing your knowledge
Paula, you are so very welcome!
Great information
❤❤❤
Very educational ❤
Thank you.
brilliant👏👏👏
Thank you.
Can I ask what # brushes you are using? If not it’s ok :). I love all of the beautiful work you share! Thank you!
I typically use between a 3 and a 5
Hello, same question I asked on another one of your videos but I like this paper too. So, what paper are you using here?
I am using a craft paper- it is #110 solid core smooth. I ended up with some from a sale, and I love it.
what brand of face paint do you use?
I noticed that you’re using your right hand to create right angled designs. What do you suggest for left handed people?
Is it better to practice using both hands to create angles on either side? ✋🤚🤔❓
I think that might make it more difficult because you’d have to learn it with both hands, I’m right handed and i’d have so much trouble using my left hand, as I don’t have the wrist strength on my left.
I think you should use the hand you want, and the designs can be flipped if it’s easier,
Which paint do you recommend?
I like TAG- wolfe and dfx for line work.
😍😍🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼👍👍👍
Thanks!
Do you have a worksheet???
I don't, but that is a great idea!
