I just came across this website tonight. I had contemplated selling my banjo as I was not getting anywhere with my efforts. These backing tracks are just what I need to raise my standards.

Hello from Newport, Rhode Island, USA. The music sounds great here. I miss my local session. Is this live? Where is it from?

Hi Timmy, this an app on our website. We also have VR Irish sessions, here's a RUclips clip of one - ruclips.net/video/2LSBTBY0jyY/видео.html

I'm trying to learn to play Irish music on my classical flute. The backing track I have is way too fast and there is no way to slow it. The timing is different than what I'm used to reading. Hmmm Might check into this.

Hi Bunny, You can slow down the tracks on the site - www.oaim.ie/about/play-along-backing-tracks/

Hi Gary, Thanks for letting us know! What are you learning?

Online Academy of Irish Music I’m an intermediate level whistle player but starting through Kirsten's whistle foundations to get a good base. I’m also learning flute and pub songs from Jon. I love your VR jams! My only wish is that the site had more tunes I actually hear played in my local sessions (such as thesession.org's top 100). Its a little discouraging knowing I’ll probably never play these tunes in a session. Keep up the great work though!

Hi Gary, Glad you like the VR jams :) Many of the tunes on that session.org list are taught on the www.oaim.ie website. You can learn technique from Kirsten's tin whistle lessons, then find a tune you want to learn and learn it from whichever OAIM tutor teaches it on the site. Most often you'll get a great version of the tune and some good spots for nice ornamentation .. Have you been using the play along backing tracks? Have you got any music sessions close by?

I've used the VR sessions - which I like quite a bit - and am just getting started with the backing tracks since I've just discovered them. Honestly, it's hard for me to play along with only the accompaniment, since it's not always clear when to start or how fast they're playing. Also just started the bouzouki lessons last night while I wait for my flute to get here. Yeah, I love the VR jams - lets me pretend I'm actually there in Ireland playing along, which I hope to do some day!
