Little note for you guys, On the thumbnail it says this is an orginal HBO series, but it was not an HBO series. It was just an NBC network television show.
Thanks for the heads up, we’ll sort that out for the next episodes 👍
As a Brit, this show is an all timer. Enjoy the ride gents
THANK GOD!! Top 3 of my favorite shows and I feel like no one reacts to this. Thank you guys!!!
You’re welcome 😀
Bro this is a classic. Perfectly depicts what American football is like in the south whether it’s Texas bama Georgia Mississippi etc
Let’s go! It’s a great series!
At the start a woman asks regarding Coach Taylor, "who does he think he is, Mack Brown?"
This show came out the same year that Texas beat USC for the championship in that great Rose Bowl game you watched. Mack Brown was the Texas coach.
And..... Mack Brown is actually the older guy talking with the coach saying that he had the "deer in the headlights look" before his first game. Mack is currently the HC for NC Tarheels.
@@gregcable3250 Yeah, I forgot to add that part before posting so glad you did.
@@Surfbird11 Figured it was just an oversight--I do it all of the time.
How am I only just seeing this??? Dope! I love this show
Enjoy! We are just finishing season 1 on our Patreon 😀 we love it!!
The movie and later, this tv series, were based on the 1990 book by H.G. Bissinger. He followed the 1988 Permian High School "Panthers" football season and wrote the book "Friday Night Lights" about it .
...I definitely recommend watching the movie. There are documentaries on the 1988 team and Permian High School football history. Their motto or inspiration slogan was "mojo"!
Mojo? Voodoo Tatum has a *brother*? FNL SEASON 6 INCOMING
Thank you, appreciate the comment and we will definitely be giving the movie a watch too 👍
This is hands down one of my favorite shows. Season 2 is a little messy but everything else is flawless.
Love this. Follows what most others have said. We’ve nearly got to Season 2 now on Patreon so ready to get through it and onto the later seasons
Most accurate portrayal of playing football at a powerhouse school in Texas… Expectations, outside pressures, coaching, and looking over your shoulder if you don’t play well. Nailed it across the board in my opinion.
That’s great to hear. Looking forward to completing this, we are nearly getting to Season 2 on Patreon now. Been an excellent watch to now
Clear Eyes Full Hearts Can't Lose! I'm SO glad you're doing this because no one does. It is such a great show, you'll love it. Such amazingly well written characters too. Landry (aka Breaking Bad actor) is sooo hilarious and one of my faves, so too Matt's grandma and Tammy. Also Coach Eric does the best speeches to the players.
9:45 That is the real life head coach of the University of Texas, Mack Brown.😊
Wow, we did not know this! Thanks for the info and comment 🙏
@@DNReacts he is the head coach of North Carolina now and has been for a few years but back when the show was starting he was the coach at Texas and had just won the natty
There is a movie called Varsity Blues that's also about high school football. It's really good.
Appreciate the comment and suggestion, thank you 🙏
Varsity Blues was filmed at the stadium where i played in high school, Georgetown, which is where Mason Crosby played.
This TV show uses the jerseys from my district. Gatling is Georgetown. Dillon is Pflugerville. Laribee is Leander . Westerby is Westlake (not actually in the same division), known for Drew Brees and Nick Foles
Yall about to blow up. Buckle ya fkn seat belts bois.
That would be awesome 😅 Appreciate the comment, thank you 🙏
Something the world will never know unless you experienced it, nothing like playing under Friday Night Lights
Love this!
My all time favorite show. I have a long weekend and welp, I know what I'm doing for it lol.
You guys have an impressive knowledge of American football! Really appreciate how seamlessly you're following along.
Subbed, possibly Patreoning, and here for the long haul.
CLEAR EYES FULL HEARTS CANT LOSE!
Thank you so much! We started the channel a year and a half ago knowing almost nothing about American football and it’s now one of our favourites!
Appreciate you watching and subbing 😀
They had real paramedics do the scene with Jason Street on the field. This show uses a lot of local people and improvised scenes. It’s filmed in such a unique way that feels so real. Love it.
Yea, this was pretty good. I've never seen the tv show, but loved the movie back in the day.
The movie was really good.
Thank you, hope you can enjoy the show with us. Appreciate the comment 🙏
Both the TV series and movie were filmed here in Austin. We love our football. My daughter was in the movie and series. Keep this alive and going. Thanks. Her SAG checks thank you too.
That’s so cool! Thanks for the info!
Friday Night Lights is one of my favorite shows ever. Great watch man, it is so good!
We love it!
They made a movie before the show that is must watch! It’s also called Friday Night Lights would love to see you react to it!!
We’ve watched it! It’s on our Patreon 😀
This is one of my favorite shows! and to rewatch it through you guys is gonna make me super happy :)
Love this, great to have you here for this 🙏🔥
One of My Favorite Shows!!!
All right. I know what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna watch it when it all comes out on Patreon… And then when you’re done on Patreon, I’m gonna come back here and watch it again on the re-releases. Prepare for the uptic in comments/views because I’m going to forget everything I write on Patreon. Lol.
Haha great idea! Look forward to all the comments 😂
This is the show that could easily be rebooted! Give me like a 6 episode continuation Friday Night Lights: High School Reunion 🔥🔥🔥🔥
That would be awesome if they did! Would be perfect timing for us too 😅 Appreciate the comment, thank you
Yesssss!!!!!! Coach Taylor is THE man !!
Love coach Taylor!
I’m legit upset that RUclips just now recommended this! Let’s go!
Wow! Love this show. Great acting, great drama and enough Texas football culture to resonate.
Great show! We were hooked on this one in our house. Texas is pretty nutty about their high school football. In a lot of those small farm towns, it’s the biggest entertainment they’ve got. It’s quite similar in the Midwest with the basketball. You guys should definitely watch the movie “Hoosiers” sometime.
"Coach Carter" is good to watch.
One of my favorite shows. I have binge watched this show like 3 times.
Love this! We’re enjoying this so much. Nearing Season 2 on Patreon now. It’s been an incredible season
The part where the quarterback got hurt, stretcher came out, both teams praying together. The surgery. All harsh realities that happen often in high school football. Sacrifices we accept because the love for the game is just that strong.
Tv dramatic effect.
Love this show! Didn’t catch it until it had already been on for a number of seasons. Had to catch up. Got the Dillon Panthers t-shirt to prove it!😂
That’s awesome 😂 Appreciate the comment, great to have you along for this.
I absolutely love this show & cant wait to see you two experience it!!
Riggins😎
Thank you for reacting to my favorite show ever! ❤
You’re welcome 😀 We hope you can enjoy it again with us. Appreciate the comment, thank you
The movie is great and is based off a book and true story. One of my favorite sports movies highly recommend it!
Thank you for the recommendation, we’ll definitely get to the film as we know it won’t ruin the series. Appreciate the comment 🙏
The music score on the tv series and the movie is so good.
We’re loving it so much. We’re up to Episode 19 of season 1 on our Patreon and we’re loving it! Thank you for the comment, we appreciate it 🙏
We loved this show so much, it was hard to see it end. Though the final episode was done just right, if it had to end,
We’re a long way off at the moment. We’re on Episode 19 of Season 1 on Patreon. But we’re absolutely loving the show, it’s awesome. Thank you for the comment 🙏
Also for most Texas schools Chap is short for Chaparral, a type of desert
this will be a pretty good way to learn more about HS football culture in the US. Sure its exaggerated a bit for TV but a lot of the themes are 100% real.
That’s awesome, we’re all for getting more familiar with this and have found season 1 has given us a huge insight into things which we were previously unaware of. Appreciate the comment. 🙏
@@DNReacts Your welcome love the channel. So a bit of background, this show is based on a book of the same name where the author followed a HS team from Odessa TX during their season in the late 1980's. The movie Varsity Blues is also based on this book but is a much more over the top version of the show you're currently watching. The movie came out in the late 90s. It would be a great addition to your football movies watching if you haven't watched it all ready. Or if your discord or patereon hadn't already suggested it.
I'm a big fan of this TV show! The only thing that gets annoying is the drama.
Yep. Too much sappiness.
Love this! I know what you mean, but we’ve been sucked in by that 😅
Best teenage drama series by far
Go look at Texas football high school stadiums for the larger districts. It’s fairly obscene considering the inequality in the wealth of the districts.
We’ll give it a search. Appreciate the comment thank you 🙏
Amazing show!
Absolutely loving it! Nearly finished Season 1 on our Patreon now and been getting more and more into the show. Appreciate the comment, thank you 🙏
Originally, it was a nonfiction book.
That is awesome! We’re loving this show (nearly finished season 1 on our Patreon). Appreciate the info and the comment, thanks 🙏
Gotta do the movie, not related to the show, but based on a true story and amazing
Its pretty close to what its like in the american south .its taken very seriously...although its a great tv series the town the team and characters are fictional the actual movie is based on a best selling book that follows an actual team and town in Tx .
Omg I’m subbing
Thank you!! 🙏🏼
Could you please react to The Expanse and Serenity Sci Fi shows? They’re amazing!
Minka Kelly! Masha'alllah!
You can skip season 2 (it's absurd because of the writer's strike) but every other season is great. Lots of tropes early on but it gets really good.
The movie is a different world/team than the show. Still about football and is good to watch first (because watching it after the show makes it seem more mid because the show is that good)
What does "look up privately " mean ?
Thank you for posting this. It alerted me to a scam bot that had bypassed the channel checks! It’s a scam account, has been blocked and reported to RUclips and I’ve added a couple more metrics to catch these accounts. We usually manage to stop these scam bots but this one found a way through.
@DNReacts I've been watching the series, it's very good, but it doesn't compare to the movie.. Looking forward to your reaction to it..
If you don't like the beginning, stick with it.
React to Episode 2!
Coming tomorrow! We are up to episode 17 on our Patreon 😊
It was a true story that led to a book which led to a film which led to this show.
The show has very little to do with the movie.
Exactly.
Please do the film
YESSSSSS
🔥🔥🔥
Do you guys understand everything? Try watching with captions
Yeah we understand what’s being said
@@DNReacts their accent is too strong for me sometimes lol. Glad to hear!
@anthonyjohnson2959 haha, yeah I can see how that would happen, luckily I’ve not had any problems!
Lol what?
The thing to remember about the southern US. EVERYTHING in the south is the best in the world and might as well not even exist anywhere else in the US.
Friday Night Lights is the most realistic TV show about American Football EVER! What makes it so special is that it is about a TOWN that loves American Football. The show just happens to have American Football games, but it is really about the people that love the sport. Friday Night Lights truly shows what middle-America life is like (never shown on the news overseas)! You work, support your family, you support your community, you enjoy family time, sometimes struggle, but also look forward to "Friday Nights" in the Fall when you can watch a sports event as a family! When you hear on the news, "MAGA" Country, THIS is the "heartland" of America! New York & California DO NOT represent American values/value systems.
Relax
The movie should be watched first..in my opinion.
The series is a spin off from the movie..
"Clear eyes, Full hearts......."
The movie & television show are two different entities. One has nothing to do with the other. The movie came out around the same time as Remember The Titans and another highschool football movie called Varsity Blues... it may have gotten kinda lost in all of that (football movies were kinda everywhere at the time...Any Given Sunday, The Replacements, The Longest Yard, even Jerry Maguire) The television show is waaay better than the movie anyway. (Any Given Sunday is a great footbal movie!!!)
You must be quite young.
@@areguapiri Nah, I just worked with adolescents who watched them & most of them on repeat😎
WWRD
Did you guys watch the movie Friday Night Lights the movie? Its much better than the show which becomes more campy drama later on. Its not bad but its more silly fun to watch them take it overly serious vs movie does a job of finding the right tone of seriousness.
WOW I absolutely ADORE this show. Season 2 goes a bit off the rails but everything football-related is great and it’s actually a pretty good representation of what small-town high school football is like (even if a fair bit dramatized), especially in a place like Texas. I always found that the actual football in this show is pretty decent. CLEAR EYES, FULL HEARTS, CAN’T LOSE.
Yeah the football is really good I agree! It’s such a great show!
@@DNReactsSecond season has a lot of loose ends due to the writers strike that happened during the season--but if you get through that S4/5 damn near break my heart
I think season 2 is fine personally
In case you haven't already heard, the movie has a completely different story and cast. There's no overlap other than they are both based on the same book.
My daughter was in both the series and movie. There were a bunch of them that were in both. Mostly filmed here in Austin.
@@tixximmi1Well, I was referring to the main characters, but I'm sure that there was some overlap in production and non-main characters. The same dude (Peter Berg) produced both.
@@drewmgthe wife is coaches wife in both as well.
Wish you watched the movie first 😭 classic movie and based on a true story… different from the show.
We’ll definitely watch the movie too, we’ve got it on our list to do. It narrowly lost a recent Patreon poll to Rudy
@@DNReacts you’re going to love it. Also when you finish the movie, look up the real people portrayed in the movie.
The Movie is awesome.. The real original true story with different characters.
Winner of best American sports movie. Actor's Tim Mcgaw (country music signer) and Billy Bobby Thornton !
As someone from a small town in the US who loved their football this show is a perfect representation
I grew up in a small town in Ohio that was football crazy. The town absolutely shut down early on Fridays for our games. It's ridiculous, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. :)
Honestly, this show is phenomenal but even CLOSER to the real thing are the stories contained within the book, Friday Night Lights, which is a non-fiction piece of journalism written by a reporter. The film is a slightly fictionalized version of the book, telling the stories of ACTUAL players, such as Boobie Miles. The show is a modernized and more fictionalized version of the same thing, telling the story of a different, fictional town. Many of the players in the show are kind of...mashups of the characters from the film/book but they are fictional people, whereas the film and book depict real events and the book is completely non-fiction long form journalism.
Reason this show is a classic is this is actually fairly accurate to what high school football is like. Drama is a bit much but the halftime interactions, the muttering of classmates in the stands, expectations, backups coming out of nowhere
For sure. Besides all the drama and plot points when it comes to high school football culture especially at big schools it’s pretty accurate
"Friday Night Lights" is the best tv series EVER/GOAT. My only beef with this episode is that coach Taylor completely off the field with backup quarterback Matt Saracen. I understand it's there on purpose to show how difficult things are going to be. Had my football coach let backups fester on the pine he would have been let go.
The best part about this show are the women. ALL of them.
Tim/Taylor Kitch isn't the best actor, but is my favorite character. Second is Landry as long as Jesse Plemons doesn't sing.😱
Great choice! There are certain shows, like Friday Night Lights, Parks and Recreation, Schitt's Creek, and Ted Lasso, where over time, the community the show is set in, becomes an additional character and part of the show.
Only down side is Season 2 absolutely sucked. Fortunately it was shortened by a strike and after the show came back there was a course correction and a lot of those stories were never revisited.
subbed for Friday Night Lights
Thank you, that’s awesome. We’re up to episode 19 of Season 1 on Patreon and we’ve been loving this season. Great to have you along for this. Thank you for the comment 🙏
Great season 1
S2- loses its footing
S3/4 are good
S5 u deal with cast changes and waning budget , solid but it feels like it’s holding on as the cast kinda blew up
wait, yall haven't watched the movie the show is based on?
need more now!! hahaha this show is honestly so amazing in every aspect! cant wait to see you guys react to it more!
Thank you. New episode out in about an hours time. We’re loving the show, nearly finished Season 1 on Patreon. Thank you for the comment 🙏
@@DNReacts made a patreon just to watch more with yall there! thanks!
I hope you watched the movie by now, this show is good but the movie is great!
The movie had Billy Bob Thornton as the coach. Same Woman as the coach's wife. There is enough difference between the two.
Didn’t know this. We will be getting to the movie. Thank you for the info and the comment 🙏
RIGGINS!!!! 😍🤤
Pretty interesting that HBO can just buy the rights to something and present to you guys as an original.
If it’s anything like the other shows HBO is rebroadcasting (Friends, Fringe, etc…), they didn’t buy the rights. Their studio produced the content and the airing station bought the rights to air the show. The studio always has rebroadcast rights.
High school football in Texas is HUGE! after i got out of the Marines, i moved in with a friend in Indiana. i tried to explain high school football in Texas to them as about 10 times bigger than high school basketball is in Indiana. not a bad show.
Adrianne Palicki is friggin hot as hell.
gonna be such a cool watch for y’all even if you finish it off channel
9:45 Gotta love the camio of Legendary Texas Longhorns coach Mac Brown
We had no idea until seeing these comments. Thank you for the info 🙏
@@DNReacts hell yea!
Oh yeah! Immediately subbed. This series never gets old. Brilliant!
Thank you!! It’s a great series. We are up to episode 17 on our Patreon, we love it 😀
This series really is what high school football feels like, especially in a small town in the US. The team is the town.
Love this, season 1 has been awesome. Absolutely awesome.
Omg my favorite!
We love it!
Oh my gezuz this is about to be fire! Me and my wife absolutely love this series!
We’ve nearly finished Season 1 and we’re both completely hooked on this show. It’s brilliant! Appreciate the comment 🙏
@@DNReacts it gets much better, it’s high school/college, so it can get a little cringy at times, but overall, great
Top tier Pilot in TV history. Tons of great ones and this hits like a ton of bricks. Coach Taylor and Miss Taylor have one of the best marriages as well depicted on TV. S2 is a real down part of the series due to the writer's strike--but damn near the rest of the show is really good
Yeah, this is one of the better pilots I can recall ever seeing. The first season is brilliant.
Incredible pilot episode!
Season 2 was definitely off the rails but the rest of the show is really good. Saracen has a really good character arc without giving too much away. The one episode with him and you know if you know is one of the best episodes of TV I think.
@@BigMoore1232oh man, I forgot about that episode.
Just skip season 2.
It's an OK show but it has much to do with football as taco bell does with Mexican food
Yeah. It’s about the culture a small Texas town has behind their high school football team. Were you expecting only nonstop practices, coaching sessions, and game strategy and play? It’s a drama TV show… not a reality show.
@@hatleyhoward7193 it is almost exactly like a reality show outside the fact it's not people being fake in their real life. I knew what to expect but since they actually want to know about football thought I would mention it. But even being a drama show they could have still made it more like 95% generic highschool drama, 5% football related stuff which is actually compelling on its own.
@@A_Name_ I think they hit the Texas teenager high school life experience pretty well. I spent plenty of nights in the middle of a deer lease drinking beer around a fire talking about our love of Texas.
