I come from a military family with all military forces served by at least one person. I was the only female though that went into the military. My dad was in the Navy and my brother and I chose Army, he was on the west coast and I was on the east coast. We didn't know each other went in until we came home for our oldest sister's funeral. Our other sister died six years before that. 😭 My brother died as a homeless veteran in 2015.
My grandpa (my dad's father) enlisted in the Navy when he was 17, and he was in World War II. (In a story he told, when he went to enlist, they wanted to put him in the Army, but he told the recruiting officer that if he couldn't be in the Navy, he'd go home; when they asked why, he told them he was only 17.) Since my grandpa passed away in December of 2009, every time I'd hear the Navy song, I'd salute. In the spring of 2003, my husband (then, we'd been engaged, and married that summer) was in a production of "The Star-Spangled Girl", and he had to sing a snippet of "The Marine Hymn" (I taught it to him, since I was in a performing arts group, and we sang the "Armed Forces Medley" in one of our shows), and now, every time we hear "The Marine Hymn", after I sing the snippet he did in that play, he says his line ("I'm glad I'm chained to the steampipe, 'cause I wouldn't miss this for anything!").
My father - US Navy - WWII My brother - USAF - Vietnam My husband - US Army My sons - USMC, US Army (Active and Reserves) I tried to enlist back in the 70's, when my husband did, but wouldn't guarantee same duty station. I was pregnant, so it didn't happen. THANK YOU TO ALL BRANCHES OF THE US MILITARY FIGHTING FORCES! GOD BLESS YOU AND PROTECT YOU!! 🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸
That was AWESOME... What a beautiful display giving Homage to our Men and Women In our Armed Forces... A wonderful display of Strength and Beauty ... Rosie the Riveter would be so Proud... God bless the USA ✝️🇺🇲
Love these guys. I am 78 and grew up with these songs. Proud of being a Navy brat. Dad was an aviator when he joined and then moved up. Retired a captain and was a flying ace. Go Navy
I felt goosebumps and got teary-eyed listening to these songs. I am a grandson of USAFFE (Ret.) Maj. Luis S. Gelacio (+), a Bataan Defender and Death March survivor. He used to hum these tunes when I was a kid, salute Gramps. God bless our soldiers!
This is Patriotism. Thank you, from the daughter of a Navy veteran. He served in Korea after the War. 1956-1961. Patrolled the waters. That’s all I know. He would not talk about it.
Watching from Bermuda. I am now 75 years old and was born on Long Island, N.Y. Listening on my transistor radio (with Cousin Brucie) on the beach via the L.I.R.R., those young Navy men singing the Oldies but Goodies, brought some good memories. Thank you for your service!
GOD Bless All of Our Veteran's 🇱🇷🙏 I greatly appreciate them all. My daddy served in the Navy World War II,My brother two tours of Vietnam. Uncle's on both sides served. Bless you all 🙏🇱🇷🇱🇷🙏❤️🙏🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷
This is one of the most patriotic songs ever written. Whenever I feel down and upset about what's going on in our country, I play this song and it fills my heart and soul with so much joy and happiness. Our freedoms are always taken for granted and this song really hits home for me. I thank every man and woman who have served this great nation of ours for all the liberties and our way of life. God Bless America!! God Bless our troops!!! God Bless Mr. Greenwood for this wonderful song. God Bless all American patriots nationwide.
I saw the icon on this and nearly skipped it. It is a totally different way of presentation than the military it is class, it is first patriotic, and if you want to see how a group of girls would have sung in 1944 - this is as close as you will get except maybe one of the groups I have seen at WW2 weekends that does the Andrews sisters. Contrast this to the yecch that is being presented today. This is class.
Over 3 generations, we have all 4 branches represented. Dad was arny, my oldest brother was navy(i think) I was air force, and my nephew, I believe is still serving in the marine corps
