Industry standard does matter, unfortunately. I owned and liked Denon hardware and had their most premium players (6000M). But if you use Engine Pro, you can't export a playlist and play it on a CDJ, which you find in clubs. So then you have to manage your music in RekordBox and then if you play it on the Denon, while loading it overrides the beat grid that you set in RekordBox. Long story short, I swapped them for CDJ 3000's. While the Denon's did have a larger screen, weightier platters and double (!) outputs turning 2 decks into 4, the compatibility was too much an issue. And managing two libraries is too costly in terms of time. What I do like about RekordBox is library management, using tags. It's the ideal USB preperation software for me. I do not use it for controllers, never use the performance mode, so maybe most of the issues expressed are not mine. I wish stem separation and used their library management. But then the compatibility but switched to CDJ's and RekordBox anyway. One thing I wished is that hardware, like a CDJ offers stem separation on the fly. But it does not have the processing power to do that from a USB.

Those that have pervious versions get a discounted price. I have performed live and NEVER had any drama with Traktor. The Stem seperation is superior.
Djay has I believe all of the features you could not find. I had the same issue...and found that there were key commands for beat jump which is kind of a bad design, but I use the key commands to beat jump to prep my tracks. if I wanted to use it live, I would just have to map beat jump commands to my controller.

I use Serato. Love it. It was the choice of vinyl dj's converting to DVS. It is also the choice of dj's who manually beatmatch and/or scratch mix. So the beatgrid stuff is thoroughly useless to me. I never use sync. Stems is separated in four parts on Serato by the way. There is a button to the left of the deck that you can press to bring up vocals, music, bass, drums. Some songs are separated very well. Others are not. I do believe how the tracks are recorded affects that. I use Rekordbox on my thumb drives when I have to spin on CDJ's, otherwise I prefer vinyl or Serato.
I would have put Rekordbox as #3 or #4, Serato still at #2, and Traktor at #1. Also, something is wrong with your Serato setup, I use less than 2 gigs of memory and have thousands of tracks.

True. Rekordbox doesnt suck, but i would bet you a LOT of money that these results are extremely skewed by people who have only ever used serato/rekordbox cause those are most popular for beginners
I think this was perhaps outdated regarding traktor and seems a bit biased against Serato. I also have never had problems like you claimed to have with Serato, and many of the features you stated were available "in suite" are also available with pro that is unlocked with better Serato controllers. Serato Lite is a joke. On Pioneer controllers, Rekordbox despite its flaws is fully unlocked. On Hercules DJUICED supports all the functions of the controller. The irony is that the best controllers on the market from Roland were largely ignored by the mainstream but have the tightest integration with it.
Great review! Im using DJay Pro and noticed you mentioned that it automatically sets hot cues, but there are no cue points automatically set for me when I load a track in the latest version? Is there something in the settings I need to adjust to get this feature? I am using a new Windows laptop with a Snapdragon Processor if that matters any? Keep up the great reviews on Djay Pro - would love to see more!
DJay will pull in Serato Hot Cues. If he had serato already on his computer, it will read Seratos hot cues. As far as I am aware, djay doesn't set hot cues, while analyzing.
Djay pro pulls serato hotcues, guess what VDJ pull playlist and hotcues of serato and rekordbox both. And also VDJ stems are the best in the market. You just have to change some settings to use it maximize its potential.
@@djp3ma280 on my 2019 6 core intel MacBook Pro, VDJ stems sound like trash, and if I go to full quality, the software stops playing music every time I load a track, but DJay stems work fine on it. I own both pieces of software, and VDJ is better at a lot of things…. Djay, is better in interface, beatgrids, and stems, it is my opinion. And the opinion of many others.
One thing I've noticed in the last few years is how locked hardware is to certain platforms, if rekordbox opened themselves up to other controllers they'd absolutely destroy serato (even though they own them) Traktor needs to open back up to other hardware too!
Have been using Serato for many years. I'm now seriously considering VDJ. Serato has not innovated enough and the beat grids thing is absolutely true. That are aways off. So many basicimproveents are missing that could be added.
I love Virtual DJ i am currently learning it. When I bought my DJ controller the Pioneer Rev1 it came with Serato lite but I didnt like it is, really slow and the interface is not really intuitive to me. So I searched fir another software that supported my Rev1 and VirtualDJ was the only other option xD I was surprised that VDJ could support basically every DJ controller in existence, and now I love it!, it has so many features and I love its interface and moreover is really cheap compared to Serato, while the price of the lifetime license of VDJ for my Pioneer Rev1 is 90 USD, serato pro is 300 USD!!!
On serato you are useing 1 deck. If you had picked 2 decks, it would have been bigger. Yes, some track are off. You can click on edit adjust to get beat and timing right.
l use 2 decks like you can see in the video. But if you pay a lot for your software and still need to correct more than other software, why would I choose Serato?
did u justsaid stems sound not great on VDJ. did u try this software? i own rekordbox and serato and vdj. with 32 years of djing i can say that VDJ is the best in every single way no other software can be compared to it. serato is super heavy on pcs or macs and the browser is the worst. rekordbox is buggy and lags a lot and misses a lot of features
Traktor DJ's customisation is a huge win IMO. I can have my layout optimised for the way i play. I agree the settings screen needs a huge revamp. I can never find the setting I want. Otherwise I find the value is market leading for the power and flexibility it gives me
Hello friend Plaza Dj. In my opinion, Virtual Dj is the most complete DJ software of all, and for me the best. I think many DJs put Rekordbox first more to flatter Pioneer Dj, because they are using many DJs from all over the world to promote their equipment, and this makes them think that Pioneer will sponsor them. Wonderful work that you did for us, which in addition to showing us the supposed preferences of DJs, gave us a comparative overview of these softwares. Congratulations on the video.
Rekordbox being sluggish? I'm running it on a Mac Studio M2 Ultra and it certainly doesn't feel that way. Disclaimer: no I haven't used it on older hardware.
i tested deejay Pro on a Event for 5 Hours with my Pioneer Controller Rev 5 its lacking the cues are not tight sometimes ok sometimes not, the same with syncing a tracks Always behind not on point so Much delay then when you mixing two tracks together its always a filter on but i have nothing on it comes automatically. The Software is for Beginners or Wedding Djs who do not like or are unable to combine their own skills with the software and leave everything to the AI. Maybe im to Oldskool thats my Opinion to deejay pro.
Traktor Pro 2 is 100% free version 3 forward you have to pay for which is still inexpensive in my opinion. The software has everything you need and do not have to pay for any addons 🙂
I have algoriddim dj pro I use tidal & apple music with my pioneer ddj-800 controller with a macbook pro laptop but I want 2 switch 2 windows witch laptop do u perfer?
Djay didn't update the Windows app for 5+ years until the Snapdragon CPUs came out earlier in the year. It's not clear to me whether non-Snapdragon laptops will have access to the new version, or whether they'll abandon it again.
@@lilart13ab I last had a Mac in 2015, and haven't used Djay since then. Just thought I'd give you a heads up to do some careful research if you're hoping to use Djay on Windows.
Rekord box is unreliable. With Mixxx at least I can correct the issues that you raised by recoding the section you mentioned. Virtual DJ and DJ Pro AI are my next choices
I used to love VDJ, but there shenanigans left some sour memories, like changing the database format and offering no way to convert between them, and the steam version that disabled core features, the extra fee for customising the layout ... just no .. I switched after a few years of putting up with them
@@keithlane4705 what extra fees for customising the GUI? There are lots of free templates. If you want a bespoke GUI you can write your own. If you don't have the time or inclination then of course it will cost you to hire developer. I'm assuming you don't mean this last point, because nobody would expect to have bespoke GUI for free...
Mixxx is a diamond in the rough. There's a lot of possibilities, considering its FOSS nature (and you can work it around if you're a thech savvy). And is a real go-to if corpos ruin some software (Yes, I'm staring at you, AlphaTheta!). BTW, screw the subscription purchases!
I've been using Mixxx for about a month now and my only complaint so far is the (at times) inaccurate beat analysis, causing some tracks that sound good together to sync improperly, making them harder to beat match than they should be. I can usually work around it but it's annoyingly meticulous at times.
The problem with open source is the same as Linux becoming a real player in the desktop/laptop market. It should be the best at things it can control. Nobody wants a Diamond in the Rough especially if you depend on it for your income. For the subscription model, you can blame Adobe for those who have most of you by the short hairs if you really depend on Premier, Light Room, etc. Others have said you will own nothing and like it, VDJ also has a lifetime purchase model.
50% of what you saying is true about Djay Pro, and you miss like so much good features. Also automatic hot cues, I can't find it, I wonder if it's a real thing
I hate rekordbox and I use it just to update my usb stick. I’ve fully moved over to the iPad version of Djay pro now. Most of the negatives for Djay pro in this video are not true when it comes to the iPad version
@@ddetongre Well tell Dexter that doesn’t make sense, because the whole reason Laidback Luke made the Mixtour Pro was to play as a professional DJ on big stages such as Tomorrow Land using an IPad or in Laidback Lukes case Just an IPhone. Things are changing now, my IPad M4 pro is much faster than most Laptops in fact Apple don’t even have an M4 chip in their Laptops yet. They don’t over heat in the clubs they are less clunky and unlike MacBook Pros you get a touchscreen which is useful for controlling effects in a way that you can’t on hardware. Honestly most people that look at Djay usually look at the IOS versions or they look at the iOS versions in conjunction with the MAC OS versions. The only version that has ever been looked at separately in the way this video has separated them are the Android and the Windows versions, this is because they are playing catchup. That’s my rant over but I respect what his so called data says, but I don’t think its true that Pro Djs are not using IOS for Pro gigs because they are and more and more are changing over from Serato, Rekordbox
I’ve been using Traktor since my first Final Scratch 2 back in the days. Can’t look elsewhere ever since. I’ve tried Serato and Rekorbox, kinda meh to me. Nothing compares to Traktor effects with a X1 connected to it IMHO.
@@ddetongre yes, that doesn’t bother me as much tho, but I know where you come from as software like rekordbox handles that nicely with tabs for different media sources like Beatport, your music library, playlists, etc. Not a decisive factor to me tho.
VDJ is literally the best, it can read rekordbox playlist and hotcues plus serato crates and hotcues as well. VDJ stems is the best in the market even better than serato. Serato is over priced and slow. VDJ is cheaper & faster in anyway.
I disagree that Rekordbox is the best. First Rekordbox uses a subscription model. Secondly, the idea of industry standard is rubbish -- this is not a qualification but a designation that RUclips reviewers use say that it feels familiar to them. New DJ's have no idea of what is familiar. Traktor is the best software as it pertains to capabilities. No software is more capable than Traktor with support for Stems and Remix Decks. Traktor is also based on a perpetual license so that you don't have to pay monthly.
Denon Dj will never step up until they sort out the shit show that is Engine DJ. They also need better forum mods who are less abrasive and need to start listening to DJ needs requirements, instead of giving X Y effects when the music database is a dogs breakfast.
@@deejayplaza You are right. Since it is DJ software like the title suggests and many of the software mentioned also perform management of libraries i was under the impression that Engine DJ should have been on this list as well. But you are right in that all of the mentioned software combine managament and performance mode.
as a user of virtual dj 2 yrs, traktor 9 yrs, serato 2 yrs and 3+ years of RekordBox. The last software, that i m curently using fits me the best. USB prep 4 players, using my own XDJ controller with Export mode or Performance mode ( Depend on my mood in that night), controlling my Small dj Light setup. So, in my oppinion Rekordbox is #1 dj softaware, at least 4 me.
what are you saying about STEMS in SERATO PRO 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣No way your'e SERATO Hater the Vocals are ok from new Tracks or Older Classics Tracks Serato is for Professional DJs not like VIRTUAL DJ 😎😎😎😎🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 and yes you have beatgrid sometimes manually not all tracks.
Virtual dj is so far behind not making a mobile app. Djay pro kills vdj. No one is carrying around a laptop all their e however they will have their phone or tablet.
u can't be serious. Majority of djs still use laptops. There are a great number of things Djay pro is yet to do in contrast to vdj... Library management, Stems effects, full compatibility with all hardware ... and more, but word is vdj is coming with a mobile app soon. I only use the mobile remote app and it's solid. I do respect the advancement djay's fluid beatgrids, but a number of tracks in Djay get analyzed with the wrong bpm still.
@@kudamah most djs use cdjs no laptops. but to each his own. most djs but have other jobs as well with djay pro you can set and make a plylist anywhere on your phone and tablet and can port that list to other software. but again to each his own. library management is too easy with djay. vdj has had years to come up with a mobile app. ill wait. for an entry djay djay pro is by far the best to me
This is not even close to the truth...all Djay does better than VirtualDJ is beatgrids. Mobile platform support is handwavy on Djay, because of the average specs of mobile devices being too low for important features (exception = iPad) and lack of drivers/HID (look at Djay's controller support page for proof), both of which is probably why Atomix hasn't really considered mobile platform. Besides beatgrids, there is nothing (that is useful) that Djay can do that VirtualDJ can't do but the converse isn't true. Here's just one thing (out of many) Djay has no equivalent for: vdjscript
Djay only does beatgrids better and works (albeit with reduced functionality due to lack of drivers/processing power) on tablets/iPads (and that's probably by choice of Atomix). Everything else DJay does VirtualDJ does, but Djay doesn't do everything VDJ does. One major thing that it has no equivalent for = vdjscript
Well Rekord Box seems to be the most popular and I understand why. I use Traktor but I have Rekord Box for CDJ use. Its pretty bad though. Djay Pro is pretty outstanding and should be higher, i got the demo as i was doing a stems review of all software, i forgot to cancel so now have Djay Pro for a year 😊. While Traktor is the most complex Pro 4 is a lot more beginner friendly on start up but if you are a beginner I'd still stay away. Live stems are outstanding now but slow, oh so slow. Nothing else has Remix decks either. ( Maybe there is a VDJ script from the community ) Virtual DJ does loads but is middling at most off them. It reallly excels at just functioning with little CPU with very few issues and it works fast, its intuitive and customisable, the community input is outstanding. I started with Serato and apart from Stems its gone a bit static. I like the look if it though still. Mixx is free and for that should be higher. Decent overview though.

I think I used the term interchangebly. Some software does also.
I did not change any settings in that regard.
It also runs well on an Lenovo Ideal pad 3 which has a Snapdragon SoC too.
One thing I've noticed in the last few years is how locked hardware is to certain platforms, if rekordbox opened themselves up to other controllers they'd absolutely destroy serato (even though they own them) Traktor needs to open back up to other hardware too!
virtual dj does support almost al controllers
I'm sure he was using stems 1.0 and not 2.0
Traktor DJ's customisation is a huge win IMO. I can have my layout optimised for the way i play. I agree the settings screen needs a huge revamp. I can never find the setting I want. Otherwise I find the value is market leading for the power and flexibility it gives me
maybe put it in one big menu, instead of all over the place.
Or standardize it, like Virtual DJ: "beginner" layout and an "expert" layout
Hello friend Plaza Dj. In my opinion, Virtual Dj is the most complete DJ software of all, and for me the best. I think many DJs put Rekordbox first more to flatter Pioneer Dj, because they are using many DJs from all over the world to promote their equipment, and this makes them think that Pioneer will sponsor them. Wonderful work that you did for us, which in addition to showing us the supposed preferences of DJs, gave us a comparative overview of these softwares. Congratulations on the video.
It's hilarious to poll DJ's and then prove to them who makes the best software. Such bias only existed in US Politics or so I thought.
Serato NR 1 , i don't know what's wrong with your setup ..
Rekordbox being sluggish? I'm running it on a Mac Studio M2 Ultra and it certainly doesn't feel that way. Disclaimer: no I haven't used it on older hardware.
have you tried other software?
I'd move to VDJ but i getting serato pro for free with my Rane One so i'll stay
i tested deejay Pro on a Event for 5 Hours with my Pioneer Controller Rev 5 its lacking the cues are not tight sometimes ok sometimes not, the same with syncing a tracks Always behind not on point so Much delay then when you mixing two tracks together its always a filter on but i have nothing on it comes automatically. The Software is for Beginners or Wedding Djs who do not like or are unable to combine their own skills with the software and leave everything to the AI. Maybe im to Oldskool thats my Opinion to deejay pro.
great feedback
Yes I agree with you 100% VDJ is way better rekordbox way too many issues especially with files and file management
I wrote an article about that, which I regularly update: www.deejayplaza.com/en/articles/best-dj-laptop
Djay didn't update the Windows app for 5+ years until the Snapdragon CPUs came out earlier in the year. It's not clear to me whether non-Snapdragon laptops will have access to the new version, or whether they'll abandon it again.
@@DjangoFlaherty SO R U TELLING ME 2 STICK WITH APPLE THEN?
@@lilart13ab I last had a Mac in 2015, and haven't used Djay since then. Just thought I'd give you a heads up to do some careful research if you're hoping to use Djay on Windows.
the VDJ stems need analysing beforehand to sound their best btw
Im user of serato and I cant agree with you about the grid. I can say its correct 90% of the times.
Djay has its shirt comings but it’s definitely not worse than traktor…
Virtual dj for 3 is mental 💀
It’s Serato DJ fan here
hi
@@deejayplaza bro 🥰
VDJ is top tier! The new software is super user friendly. Just get a bad rap because it looks childlike. Not sure where folks got that from lol.
No.1 algorithm Djay pro🎉
No.2 serato
No.3 rekordbox
Rekord box is unreliable. With Mixxx at least I can correct the issues that you raised by recoding the section you mentioned.
Virtual DJ and DJ Pro AI are my next choices
Traktor is and always will be king in my book , all the rest were just poor imitations from the get go.
No, no, no. Vdj!!! For over 20 years!
EngineDJ ?
not really performance software, only management software.
but some elements are really nice, others (like creating a playlist) are quite laggy
I used to love VDJ, but there shenanigans left some sour memories, like changing the database format and offering no way to convert between them, and the steam version that disabled core features, the extra fee for customising the layout ... just no .. I switched after a few years of putting up with them
@@keithlane4705 there are no extra fees in vdj. You buy it and you get everything and free updates for life.
Best software with the worst marketing.
BTW, screw the subscription purchases!
good take
I've been using Mixxx for about a month now and my only complaint so far is the (at times) inaccurate beat analysis, causing some tracks that sound good together to sync improperly, making them harder to beat match than they should be.
@AnthonyThomas-o4l Interesting... Still the options are there and there's no excuses.
50% of what you saying is true about Djay Pro, and you miss like so much good features. Also automatic hot cues, I can't find it, I wonder if it's a real thing
name the features, so I can include them in the next videos
Me neither major dark monkey - did you figure this out? I wish mine set automatic cue points
I thought about switching to VDJ, but I don't know.
I thought you loved Traktor? 😁
I hate rekordbox and I use it just to update my usb stick. I’ve fully moved over to the iPad version of Djay pro now. Most of the negatives for Djay pro in this video are not true when it comes to the iPad version
Club DJ’s are not going to use an iPad. This is what Dexter is getting at. iPad versions are OK at home.
Rekordbox user here, I tried vdj and serato and i always ran into issues or lag..
mmm then there might be something else the matter if all software has that problem
@@deejayplaza that or maybe my usb storage lags more with those, for some reason Rekordbox worked better
I’ve been using Traktor since my first Final Scratch 2 back in the days. Can’t look elsewhere ever since. I’ve tried Serato and Rekorbox, kinda meh to me. Nothing compares to Traktor effects with a X1 connected to it IMHO.
Does it still have it’s library folder management inverted? Used to shit me because the new tracks were at the bottom of nested folders.
@@ddetongre yes, that doesn’t bother me as much tho, but I know where you come from as software like rekordbox handles that nicely with tabs for different media sources like Beatport, your music library, playlists, etc. Not a decisive factor to me tho.
Use the one that comes free with your hardware
or that :)
VDJ is literally the best, it can read rekordbox playlist and hotcues plus serato crates and hotcues as well. VDJ stems is the best in the market even better than serato. Serato is over priced and slow. VDJ is cheaper & faster in anyway.
Good video, but you get a thumbs down for using an annoying cat sound, too many times. My ears still hate you, but thank you for a good video.
thanks for the feedback
I disagree that Rekordbox is the best. First Rekordbox uses a subscription model. Secondly, the idea of industry standard is rubbish -- this is not a qualification but a designation that RUclips reviewers use say that it feels familiar to them. New DJ's have no idea of what is familiar. Traktor is the best software as it pertains to capabilities. No software is more capable than Traktor with support for Stems and Remix Decks. Traktor is also based on a perpetual license so that you don't have to pay monthly.
I use Engine
❤ Traktor Pro ❤
Where denon engine DJ?
when did you last perform a DJ gig with Engine DJ?
I mention it in my article for good measure
Meanwhile Denon Engine DJ owners: 😢
I don't get it.
Engine DJ is management software not performance software
Denon Dj will never step up until they sort out the shit show that is Engine DJ. They also need better forum mods who are less abrasive and need to start listening to DJ needs requirements, instead of giving X Y effects when the music database is a dogs breakfast.
@@deejayplaza You are right. Since it is DJ software like the title suggests and many of the software mentioned also perform management of libraries i was under the impression that Engine DJ should have been on this list as well. But you are right in that all of the mentioned software combine managament and performance mode.
I LOVE VDJ ❤
you and me both :)
Vdj stems is the best
as a user of virtual dj 2 yrs, traktor 9 yrs, serato 2 yrs and 3+ years of RekordBox.
Virtual dj costs more than serato.
look at their websites
Traktor, Serato en Virtual DJ......
I don't understand why djs WANT use mobile.
It's clunky, it's small, no button feedback
This list shows the most popular, not the best.
sssst, I took the idea from DJ Mag to vote for the best DJ
rekordbox stems suck
true
R.i.p ears 😢 please stop sounds like that in the future
exactly my point
Well Rekord Box seems to be the most popular and I understand why. I use Traktor but I have Rekord Box for CDJ use. Its pretty bad though.
Djay Pro is pretty outstanding and should be higher, i got the demo as i was doing a stems review of all software, i forgot to cancel so now have Djay Pro for a year 😊.
While Traktor is the most complex Pro 4 is a lot more beginner friendly on start up but if you are a beginner I'd still stay away. Live stems are outstanding now but slow, oh so slow. Nothing else has Remix decks either. ( Maybe there is a VDJ script from the community )
Virtual DJ does loads but is middling at most off them. It reallly excels at just functioning with little CPU with very few issues and it works fast, its intuitive and customisable, the community input is outstanding.
I started with Serato and apart from Stems its gone a bit static. I like the look if it though still.
Mixx is free and for that should be higher.
Decent overview though.
thanks for the feedback! REally valuable for DJs to read!
