Exploring An Amazing Old Log Cabin, Outbuildings and a Stone Springhouse

- Today, we explored an old log cabin that predates the American Civil War. It is interesting to see how low the ceiling and doorways are. I also checked out the limestone springhouse and marveled at the ice-cold water as it passed through the springhouse proper.

Hey Chigg we had a springhouse very similar to that one on the farm where I grew up, we used to catch crawdads in it, and the exit stream, and then dare each other to wear one like an earring, it only hurt a little.
The unusual brickwork is called 'Flemish bond'. It is a solid double skin brick wall and the end-on bricks bond the two layers together. Popular in 17th and 118th centuries in the U.K. Lovely cabin and that is, indeed a Butter Churn. 17:10, primitive tool is a coffee grinder or meat grinder, plus a nice 'Leg Vise'. 17:20 has a Steel Yard weighing scale, and you found the weights! Lovely property.
Thanks for the tour! So many cool items.
I feel like this is channel is more of a history channel than a metal detecting one and I'm not mad at it. Chigg has taught me more than any other metal detecting channel on YT.
Absolutely.
Relics come from the past so it makes sense.
The best part of relic hunting is finding out what the items are. I've grown up around old farms and know a lot about the old tools and home items. And even read my Foxfire books a few dozen times. So getting an opportunity to detect a property like that one is absolutely pure heaven for Beau. He's a master at civil war relics but still loves 1700-1800's items.
Chigg is the best. Most metal detecting ytbers are sensationalized, and none of them could touch his historical knowledge.
That house has seen some history! If only walls could talk!
I love the history of any old built house.
I would love to spend a couple soul searching few days in that little cabin. Thanks for a great walk in the woods.
As my mother used to say 70 years ago, when I was growing up, “if those buildings could only talk!”
Love the exploring old home steads!! Thanks CHIGG!!🏠😊👍
Chigg’s that was an awesome tour, beautiful old building, tool shed and spring house. Love all of the flowers in bloom. A very well kept property. Can’t wait to see what you pull from the ground.👍👏😀
Cool Historical property! Thanks for the Tour Chigg
Great fun. Thanks to the homeowners who let us get a glimpse of the past. God bless!
I really enjoy exploring buildings and walking old farms.
Chigg knows how to tease.. so interesting then cut off till the next video.. worth the wait I'm sure..
Loved the video. I have never seen a diamond cut before.
Cool tour. Awesome buildings. Thank you.
What a beautiful property!!! Good luck hunting it!!!!
Very good Chig! I enjoyed. Thanks. Rk
Cool place. I look forward to future vids of nice finds on the property.

Very Nice …Looking forward to the upcoming Part 2!!!👏
I like this video, nice to see some old houses i the US
Chigg, I would give anything to just shadow you on one of your outings. At 66 years old it is on me bucket list dude!
Thank you for sharing that beautiful house and land.
I love looking at old buildings, houses etc. Thank you for sharing!
What a cool place to see
beautiful cabin! would like to live in there. Odd the microwave was there, lol. I thought they were invented a lot later than the 1800's! super cool. Thanks for taking us along :)
I would like to thank the owners of this property for letting us see the history. Much obliged.
Very cool property. My kinda place.
Hi nice vid nice finds I like your channel😊
Hey, thanks
I watched it twice I loved it so much! Love seeing the history of the land!
Really cool place chigger.❤it
What a cool old forge. Sweet post vise. Imagine the smells and sounds from when this farm was up and running in the old days.
This was just great, really enjoyed - thanks Chiggster...
Enjoyed watching! Thanks. Interesting seeing old buildings learning about their history.
What a wonderful old cabin! Thanks for the video!
And yes it's a barrel churn. I guess for butter or cheese products. A rather rare piece.
That's a beautiful place chigg
Very cool my friend
Thanks from London lovely history chig
Appreciate the amount of content you are putting out 👍
Started watching you a couple of years ago because you offered more than metal detecting in your videos. Thanks for continuing my education.
Great video 👍😊
My day is complete. I got scrap and pallet man and Mike the scavenger and now Aquachigger 😅
Really cool old place. the log cabin is awesome!
Thank you, chick for the nice little tour. My husband was a blacksmith. I hope you find something really special to give the homeowner and maybe the homeowner will give it back to you. You can only dream.
What's really strange is, we enjoy finding artifacts and getting them on video is almost as if we have the item. But giving family belongings back to the relatives is even more rewarding. We are reuniting family history. That's pretty special.
What an amazingly beautiful place.
What a beautiful old home, anxious to see what you all find..
.good luck 👍👍
I'm sorry but did you mention which state this homestead is? I love the cabin. I suppose there was a loft that was up the stairs. Love imagining how simple life was back in the time. The spring house was absolutely awesome. I will bet that water is the purest being filtered by all that limestone naturally and so very ice cold even in the summertime. That object in the kitchen looks like a heavy-duty butter churn. Just think of the amount of cream that came off the top of that! Wow! I love it when you explore those old and historic buildings. Thank you Chigg for sharing this with us..
Wow, those flowers were beautiful, especially the purple ones ... That was a neat tour!
Yanno, those headstones ... if the owner will let you, you can photograph them and post them on find-a-grave for potential family members to see. (Unless they've already been posted). Graves on private property are hard to access for photos without permission. That's very cool, though! Thanks for sharing! - Muddypaw 🐾
Nice old Montgomery wards vice👍
Very cool!! Man do I love the colonial properties! Those buildings are wonderful and that place seems to ooze history. Really looking forward to seeing what comes from the ground. It nice you are keeping those items with the property!
I think I spied this house off the hwy the other day. No worries shhh! I won't tell! Love the channel thanks Chig!
Chigg - the brickwork on the side of the house is known as Flemish Bond. Usually found in 17th century England and Europe.
That cabin looked like a summer kitchen/maid's quarters combo. We had something very similar growing up...
Beautiful place!
It was really interesting
I love old houses
Good morning from Southeast South Dakota.
That bench vise would probably work just fine with a brushing and some oil. Id love to rebuild a home shop like that one. Just imagine what was made there in order to keep the farm going. Thanks for the tour. For folks like me its like being home again.
Howdy
Howdy
The cabin is awesome
That cabin is awesome! I would definitely stay overnight in it now and then even talking the wife into it. Like a little cabin hideaway...fix it up nice! Hey Chig, I bet if you would have taken a closer look at them leather straps, horse tack you probably have found exactly where some of the buckles and rings and such you find came from.
Thanks Chigg 🤘😎 That was a good time.
Thanks so much for the donation!
Awesome shop there Beau. A very big broad hewing axe head at 11:36. The through tenon and batten bench is a very old design. It could have been a shave horse originally.
Cool!!
Sad the tack building is collapsed with all those treasures inside. That dude should store those items in a shed at the least. The rest of the property tour was really nice.
You are a very Lucky man
crazy thing that house and front yard looks like one i know in litchfield illinois brought back some memories i worked for guy that lived in it mowed front lawn even looks like same trees lol thanks for video chigg
Very cool Chig!
IN MY OLD
JOB WE CELEBRATED 300 YEARS IN 19,89 YOU HAVE SOME TIME TOO CATCH UP , OK STILL
LIKE THE OLD STUFF 😮😊
Thanks for the history tour of that beautiful old home. That blacksmith shop had a bunch of tools in there all rusty, bummer! Those daffodils are amazing looking! I stombled on your videos today. You are extremely knowledgeable about pretty much everything! Im enjoying your channel immensely! Also, thank you for your service and sacrifice!! 🫂🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸❤️
Not a butter Churn. 1800s washing machine. Cool cabin.
Purple and white flowers were crocus. Yellow daffodils
My great grandparents had a milk house that a spring flowed thru and was held in a stone trough that held the water level just below the neck of the milk cans .It then Flowed into an another trough for the livestock.
I love the old house's on the property, the log house, I would love to have one like it on my property . Thanks Chigg . I'm waiting for the detecting video that should be A Great one. Thanks Chigg
That cabin would make an interesting air bnb maybe they could make enough to rebiuld the old barn/blacksmith shop using as much of the old wood as possible for the aesthetics of coarse
Nice tease. I wonder how many city kids have been introduced to electric fences by someone grabbing your hand as they grab the wire. It was one way of learning. 18th c. home, diamond notching, Spring house, and an undetected permission; Will probably need a larger batch of popcorn for that video.
Thanks for the tour! Love old stuff. Good thing too. Im getting up there in age ....64 yrs old . Soon be 65. Did some one speed up time?
4:30 Washing machine ?
That’s what I think also …. 🤔🤔 they still make something similar . We used to have one for our sailboat.
That butter churn is actually a washing machine.
What was upstairs in the cabin
Cool video
I enjoy your history lessons that go with the metal detection videos. Are you planning any snorkeling adventures this summer?
I'm ghost 👻hunter love to do investigation there cool looking place I love hearing about history
76th like
I’ll bet ya some of the stuff in these buildings will magically grow feet and walk away.!!!
Hey y’all
Did you ever explore the extensive Indian ruins located in the northernmost wash of the torte mountains in Arizona? As far as I know there are no videos of this area.
Hope all that leathee straps are salvageable
Perhaps you walked right past a covered well near the spring house.
😀💙
Well by the looks of the house If you look close the bricks near the top of the peak look to have fire damage and one section is repaired which leads me to believe that secondary house was constructed to live in while the main house was repaired and the beams may have been salvaged from the main house….What do you think chig??? Great place thanks for the tour see you on the next one👍🏼👊🏼p.s. cool vise and pics but now I want to know what was written on the big headstone…..
washing machine maybe
Check yes that is a butter churn stop playing on my front porch
If the walls could talk in that first cabin, I have a feeling they would be drunk. Did you see the stairs @4:06? 🤣 The shocking part was the fact that the Chigg said nothing about it.
barrel might be a wash machine or a butter churn from much later. how ya been?
With all of the places you go on the east coast I'm just curious if you have ever found slave tags. I saw once where a young man found a few of them that were disposed of along their way to freedom. I guess depending on the material they were made from if they would have survived in the ground this long.
They were only issued in or near Charleston, South Carolina.
Oh okay. That would explain why more aren't found. This kid had found I think 8 buried under a tree but I'm unsure where. It was on antiques roadshow. Thanks and enjoy the kittens. Your wife is an incredible person.
Chigg didnt i see a microwave in that cabin? Them slaves were way ahead of their time😊
Doooood.
Lotsa things in pond water, don’t drink 😢
Washing machine?
Did I miss it or did you not go up those stairs?
