I have one of these knives, probably the most elegant simple folder ever, damn near cried when you took a chisel to it.
from beautiful to ugly in 25 minutes! let aside the aesthetics, the workmanship is to be saluted!
Для этого совсем не надо было ломать исправный Опинель. Лезвие не было «убито»! Его надо было заправить и отточить кончик!
Если есть большое желание делать ножи, то было бы лучше изготовить лезвие из полосы металла и закрепить в дизайнерской рукояти.
Углеродистая сталь на Опинелях очень приличная. Спуски сделаны оптимальной формы. Там ничего дорабатывать нет никакой необходимости.
Пользуюсь разными ножами от этой компании и очень доволен.

j'ai une bonne dizaine d'Opinels y compris les anciens modèles sans la virole mais je préfère de loin les laisser dans leur "jus" d'origine ..... il ne manque pas de fournisseurs de lames pour fabriquer son propre couteau .....

L'opinel d'origine avec sa propre virole est bien plus adapté a un usage traditionnel ... cette "virole" qui déborde représente une aspérité inutile ... seul le manche de ce couteau change l'aspect de l'objet et peut satisfaire son utilisateur ... c'est juste une opinion personnelle .....
La virole ne dépasse que le temps d'ouvrir ou de fermer le couteau. Je pense aussi que la base est un opinel car c'est le moyen le moins cher d'avoir une lame si on n'a pas une forge. Mais pour un jeune c'est pas mal même si pour un coutelier il y a à redire sur certains points.
Bel exercice de style, mais pour ce qui est de l'esthétique il y a encore du travail.

He DOES good work for a young man starting a craft. 🙂 I OWN and use a number of styles of Opinel folding knives. DISASSEMBLING the handle might NOT be POSSIBLE. 🙄 The blade is pinned in the knife handle before the ring lock is installed and the ring BLOCKS access to the pin. The inner metal sleeve of the lock appears to be glued to the handle of each style Opinel folding knife. Most folding knives have metal spines somewhere in the handle. In this video, the MAKER demonstrates that there is NOTHING METAL inside the handle. He is choosing to modify the original by strengthening the handle with a metal insert.
The blade is not a whittlers profile !!!

The Opinel folding knife has been successfully around for close to 130 years. This dumb unnecessary "build" destroyed a perfectly good condition handle and retaining ring mechanism with a below average, mediocre overly complicated substandard piece of dog (shi_) art. This person's time could have been better used to rehab and sharpen the blade in place, thus preserving the classic Opinel folder, and retaining the superior mechanism and heritage handle design.
Au contraire mon Ami: this young man wanted to learn something about the craftwork associated with making knives. He took a much-abused Opinel blade that many or most consumers would have put in the rubbish tip. As a regular user of several Opinel folders, I have an issue with their ring lock: on some of my knives it tends to rotate in use toward the unlocked position and the blade starts to become unstable. Just this morning, I had to readjust the lock on my Opinel folding paring/peeling knife several times while working on a single apple. THIS LOCK is not prone to unlocking.
