I've always been under the impression that someone can go into the time chamber by themselves but it's highly suggested that they go with someone to keep each other from going insane.
My head canon explanation is that the time dilation effect can only work with up to two people inside. Once there's more, it's greatly muted, if active at all. It's not a case of the pocket dimension literally hard capped to limit only two people in and anyone else that tries gets blocked, or whatever. I wouldn't be surprised if Toriyama has had to pull an explanation out of his butt during an interview though, so there may be an 'official' explanation somewhere.
11:04 the "two at a time" limit for the chamber is actually a supply issue: the room is only able to store supplies for a full year if there are no more than 2 people inside, any more than that, especially if they are saiyans(with their massive appetities) would result on the people inside running out of food and having to prematurely end their session. the true limit is regarding the number of times any single person can be in there whihc before the buu sage was 2 years, going beyond that would apparently cause the door to vanish and trap you in there.
Yes Edit: regarding the "two people rule" it is in reference to the fact that the fridge within can replenish itself to satisfy the appetites of two people over the course of their stay, and two saiyans as it is is stretching the limits due to how much they eat, and the instance in the buu arc worked is because Namekians do not eat solid food and rely on water and (occasionally) sunlight. Still doesn't make sense as to why he didn't join Goku and Gohan in the time chamber, could've helped them get stronger, could've gotten stronger himself, and could've convinced Goku and Gohan to stay for the entire 24 hrs/12 yrs instead of leaving a few hours early
Wouldn't have done anything if he had convinced them though since Goku deliberately left early because they had reached the limit of their power. They had completely mastered super saiyan, and Goku had a glimpse of SSJ2 Gohan. So that was why they left early because Gokus master plan all along was to get Gohan angry and make him turn SSJ2 to defeat Cell.
@@EskChan19 yea, but if they stayed, Piccolo could've helped point out that a) that is not the most reliable plan, b) he and goku could help make Gohan aware of the power of ssj2, and even if he doesn't master it or learn to access it, at least they are all in on the plan of Gohan's potential being made so they can have Goku and Piccolo fight Cell first to tire him out, allow Gohan to learn about his fighting style, as well as keep Goku from giving Cell a Senzu bean, and c) Piccolo could make sure Gohan learns some extra techniques for the sake of fanservice like the Special Beam Cannon or Instant Transmission
I think the rule is general, as in the base rules of the room were designed for 2 people under burdened exposure. This same rule could be why the original rule meant a person could only enter the room twice in their lifetime. In the later series Dende does change the rules of the room, likely removing some of the burden so that more people can enter for when they need to train and have only a limited amount of time as well as removing the "2 uses per lifetime" rule. The burden the room had on those within really wasn't much considering how strong the Z-Team had become, so were redundant anyway. Something that was never done in the series but would have made sense is that the gravity chamber could have been put inside the room when in use for a greater burden that would otherwise not have had an impact on the chambers rules if I'm correct about the above information.
The delivery of Vegeta’s “WHAT” in this episode is my favorite line in the entire series. I don’t know why but it feels like it resonates with his character so well
Oh, also, the reason you can't go in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber by yourself, is that the very reality of the inside will drive you insane. I mean, you saw how it was with Goku and Gohan. Gohan was writing on the walls, Shining style, and he and his "dad" (still think Piccolo's a better parent) were having the same nightmare for a week straight. Also, I'm pretty sure that's the same reason in the actual real DBZ show. Spending an entire year in nothing but a white void training would make you go insane.
There have been real world studies where people stay in a white room with nothing to occupy their time and bland, liquid 'food' and it really does not take long at all to start causing psychological harm. There's a Vsauce Mind Field episode where the host attempts to live three days like that that and it was an immense struggle for him, he quickly lost all sense of time, by the last 24 hours he'd stopped trying to entertain himself with mental tasks or exercise and just pressed his head against the wall for hours at a time. Towards the very end, he was starting to have memory issues and having bouts of confusion, like believing he'd just been doing something when he hadn't. While the time chamber isn't quite as bad as the room he was in, it's still hard to believe focused martial artists could remain in there for a full year without some harm done to their mental health.

That scene with Goku and Gohan coming out of the chamber and chatting makes you appreciate Masako's voice acting, how he can be making both voices and still make it not feel like it's the same voice actor
I have watched reactions to DBZA multiple times per year to multiple channels since TFS ended the series and this is the first time anyone has ever brought up the bite mark to my knowledge. Hell as someone who started watching as they were still airing the android saga (Vegeta's first transformation was my first DBZA episode), I never even noticed it lol.
Might as well mention we are in a good place for the "Cell VS" shorts, which they released during the long period of wait between these and the Cell Games episodes. They all take part during the week Cell was waiting, so they are at its best when you watch them before episode 57 :D Frankly, they were so hilarious I think of them as one of the best parts of the abridged Cell arc 🤣 *Especially relevant for a YU-GI-OH Abridged fan too kk*

16:40 I think all the incremental improvements to Super Saiyan they gain in the Cell arc are called grades and the always on version of Super Saiyan is called Super Saiyan grade 4, but also I don't remember for certain
Grade 1 is Super sayian as we see it in the Namek Grade 2 is what see when " Super vegeta" show up on semi perfect Cell, bit more power behind it Grade 3 is what trunks does where he bulks up, but it kills your speed. Grade 4 is the " perfected" super saiyan gohan refers too where they basically use no stamina ot hold it so they can exert more from that point more easily(ie: starting from 100 instead of starting from zero.)

I don't know if it's ever actually touched upon in canon Z, but the Time Chamber doesn't actually have a hard limit on the number of people that can enter at a time, but the magic fridge is only capable of storing a years worth of food for 2 people. Every additional person above 2 shortens the time they can stay in the chamber because they would run out of food. 1 Person could last 2 years, 2 can last 1, 3 could last 8 months, and 4 could go 6 months. Incidentally, because Namekians survive on water alone, Piccolo's presence doesn't really count towards the food limit, meaning Gotenks couldn't have theoretically stayed inside for the whole year if Super Buu didn't get impatient. In all honesty, there is a good chance that this was a classic Toriyama retcon. He needed a way for Gokū and Vegeta to not be able to train together, and saying the Chamber has a 2 person limit was probably just the first thing that came to mind. When the Buu saga came around, he needed Goten and Trunks to be able to practice in the Time Chamber, but obviously they couldn't be in there by themselves, so he had to retcon the max capacity to be based on the amount of food it can store, instead of ✨magic✨
Fun fact: the form Goku and Gohan use is call Full Power Super Saiyan. Basically after much training their body's as well their mind and emotions they are able to hold SSJ form like they would their normal forms and lose little to no power when holding it. But doing so make it harder doing normal things like drinking water from a glass....😆 no bull Goku and Gohan broke more dishes holding them carefully as possible instead of accidentally dropping them

Speaking on the point you made about more than 2 people being in the time chamber during the Buu arc. Mr Popo mentions that when more than 2 are inside of it, the time dilation is muted and the time in the chamber is the same time as outside.
So, Goku and Gohan's trip into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, they literally are just staying in Super Saiyan form as a permanent state. It's explained off in DBZ that they do it to increase their stamina, as the SSJ form takes a lot of stamina just to maintain it. Later, it's retconned as their bodies being able to regulate the power level. Either way, they come out of the chamber able to stay in SSJ form without any need to focus on it. Being Super Saiyan was as natural as breathing. Of course, DBZA shortens it to them forgetting where the light switch is.
You gotta imagine that's _really_ weird for saiyans. Imagine being on planet Vegeta, and _not_ getting into a fistfight with every single person you know. Those idiots probably throw haymakers like we say 'hello'. Also, that bit about the Chamber. Earthlings are generally notorious for their ingenious uses of ki. For such a weak race, they came up with a _surprising_ number of very effective techniques. Before Goku, they'd never seen anything like a Saiyan- and over time, the Chamber _and_ the lookout have been damaged. Like with Kami disappearing, that presents an opportunity for _change._ Specifically, within the _rules_ they go by. Ever since meeting Goku & the rest, Kami's Lookout has practically become the respawn fountain from League of Legends. ALSO- can we take a second to talk about the fact that chichi, up until the cell arc, _as annoying as she was, _*_didn't know literally all of her friends had been fighting people who could annihilate planets with a since VEGETA?_* ᶠᶠˢ ˢᵃᶦʸᵃⁿ ˢᵃᵍᵃ ᵖᶦᶜᶜᵒˡᵒ ⁿᵘᵏᵉᵈ ᵗʰᵉ ᵐᵒᵒⁿ· ᴱᵛᵉⁿ ʸᵃᵐᶜʰᵃ ᶜᵒᵘˡᵈ ᵇˡᵒʷ ᵘᵖ ᵗʰᵉ ᵖˡᵃⁿᵉᵗ
an underrated joke you didn't seem to get is: "look, i don't mean to be, "that guy"...." "oh. that's ACCIDENTAL." this is funny because of the way Vegeta said it and the implications of Vegeta thinking Trunks is too much like his mom, Plus it's kind of a running joke that Trunks is a failure. So Vegeta saying it's accidental fits right into the whole theme these 2 are going on with. Which will come full circle later on, (no spoilers of course, you'll see it when you see it.)
Not sure if anyone else commented on this but what Goku and Gohan accomplished here is commonly referred to as Mastered Super Saiyan. As far as we’re aware Vegeta accomplishes this form too, as it’s kind of a prerequisite for SSJ2. But it replaces regular SSJ as well as the buff versions that both Vegeta and Trunks use both in terms of power and speed. There isn’t an exact multiplier as far as I’m aware but at any point in the series after the Cell Arc this is the version of Super Saiyan being used. Like I said it’s both stronger and faster than the buff Super Saiyan forms. Which is another reason why it’s considered the Mastered Version
To explain the hyperbolic time chamber, at this point in the story the room may only be used for 2 years/2 days, after which the door disappears and you can never get out. The two person thing is a supply issue, not really a hard rule. You could have the whole gang in there but good luck feeding them. Except piccolo since he doesn't eat he just drinks water. Eventually little green will upgrade the room of spirit and time to get rid of the 2 use limit so you can stay in there as long as the food supplies last. Also with the original super saiyan transformation you have four levels. Stage 1 is just regular old super saiyan. Stage 2 is what trunks and vegeta used their first time out of the chamber, usually referred to as super vegeta or super trunks. Stage 3 is that real bulky one that trunks used against perfect cell. And Stage 4 is mastered super saiyan or perfected super saiyan and it is what goku and gohan stepped out of the chamber with. This is such a better way of doing things that the other stages were never touched again. Kinda weird they never tried to do this sort of training with super saiyan 2 or 3 but whatever. It's purpose is to make going super saiyan take nearly no energy at all and to have little to no stamina loss while you are super saiyan. Pretty much makes being super saiyan feel more comfortable and normal like you never transformed at all.
idk I guess maybe they did off screen. Goku and Vegeta seem pretty chill while Super Saiyan 2 in the Buu saga, its just 3 that is really difficult for Goku to maintain
Also, if I recall, that's the Daizenshuu explanation, while pretty official, it's still built up on quite a lot of head canon of Shueisha staff than straight from Toriyama. Given that bulking up was present in Dragon Ball, I would personally assume that 'Grade' system is from Shueisha forgetting the precedent from earlier in the series and treating them as their own unique forms, where as it would seem more reasonable, to me, to assume that Trunks and Vegeta tried to push to get stronger, taking the bulking up route, while Goku chose to simply master being a Super Saiyan. As a notable point, the Daizenshuu got really caught up in coming up with power levels for characters through the story, even though Toriyama was done with them before the death of Frieza, and it was pretty evident that the point was to show that relying on a 'stat' to assume your victory or loss is flawed. Of course, that's my head canon too, so if Toriyama has actually gone on record to say the Grades are a real thing, then never mind me! 😅
The time chamber was upgraded by Dende during the Buu arc so that more people can go in and more often. (I'm pretty sure there was a limit to how many years you can spend in the time chamber.) (not 100% on this part; but I think he upgraded it because it was broken in the first place.) also you CAN go in alone but for your mental health its highly suggested against.
The reason that its given at first is that there is only enough supplies for 2 people for 1 year. I like to think that what happens is that if more than 2 people enter the room, the time weirdness stops working and the same time passes inside and outside, considering the inconsistency of Buu leaving the Chamber and then Gotenks leaving shortly afterwards. If it were like the issual "1 day out 1 year in" Gotenks shouldve come right behind Buu, but they didnt. And my headcanon its because, since there were Goten, Trunks and Piccolo inside the chamber, then the time dilation stopped working, unlike when its was just Trunks and Goten inside. Of course, this was never acknowledged or adressed anywhere so, to me, its just a happy accident that it sort of makes sense.
I believe the way the hypertonic time chamber works, any number of people can enter, but the time dilation only takes effect if only 1 or 2 people enter. So once piccolo and buu enter with trunks and goten, time stops moving so quickly inside.
The reason Piccolo went in alone has a lot to do with the fact hes in such an odd position. Not strong enough to train with goku, Vegeta, and trunks but being far too strong to train with Tien and Krillen. That and he meditates which requires a reasonable amound of solidtary isolation
The reason why Mr. Popo suggests only two people go into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber is because of the fact that the food that’s in there is only enough for two people (presumably enough for two Saiyans). Also, you mentioned that perhaps Vegeta could eventually become a Full-Power Super Saiyan like Goku and Gohan, but I’d debate that pretty much all of the Saiyans, including Goten and Trunks, had achieved this perfected form of Super Saiyan by the Buu Saga; in the anime at least, they are all animated with that brightly-colored yellow that Goku and Gohan have here, they lack the constant powerup aura around them, and they all retain their normal personalities within Super Saiyan as well. That’s my take on it at least.
So the next few episodes are basically filler before the cell games like you thought but they’re still good episodes so don’t worry about that. HOWEVER there is EVEN MORE decent filler you can react to after the Episode 56. It’s a small side series called “Cell Vs Everyone” with shorts of him fighting other characters like Saitama, Yami and Sonic. And of course the Broly movie is a long one but by far the best movie so get hyped for that one 🙌🏽

IIRC, Dende fixed the room by Buu Saga so you could enter in larger groups but for less time. The non-stress super state is called Super Saiyan Full Power.

The limit was based on food in the chamber, and the 2 day limit was defeated when buu screamed his way out, since that means the door vanishing wasn't a real problem since there is a way out now
I think the way they got around it in the buu arc was that they weren't in there for the entire year. Was just to give extra time. Also with 2 kids the amount of food would have lasted longer especially with piccolo only needing water
1) Goku, using the time chamber, stole 1 full year of time from Chi Chi to spend with her son 2) before the official tournament starts you might want to check out the Cell Vs series of episodes. it's "filler episodes" with various characters challenging Cell, but good fun 3) if you have any DBZA movies you haven't watched yet now might be a good time
1) Unlikely. Chi-Chi is fully human and much older than Gohan, it's unlikely she'd naturally live longer than Gohan, she'd realistically die of old age way before that year would even matter. That said, it did practically take a year of Gohans life.
Btw vegeta does get to that point with ssj between the final battle with cell and the buu saga (it's very obvious in the buu saga but he stays in ssj after fighting the cell Jr's for a while while trunks powers down)
Interesting, I assumed Vegeta didn't achieve it until the Buu saga. I guess it's never officially confirmed or denied beyond speculation, but when Vegeta powers up/fights during the Cell Games he seems really buff with exaggerated muscles, similar to how he looked while he was fighting Cell earlier (the form he called "Super Vegeta"). Also in the scene where Trunks bites the dust, Vegeta isn't a Super Saiyan, suggesting he powered down to conserve his energy like Trunks. Compare that to Goku who maintains Super Saiyan long after Gohan took care of the Cell Jr.s even though he didn't have to.
16:51- "what is that called?" It's called Mastered Super Saiyan form or Super Saiyan grade 4, both terminologies are correct. Oh, and the question about the time chamber in the Majin Boo arc, the answer is simple, it got upgraded by Dende, witch became the new guardian of Earth and consequently ended up upgrading the time chamber in the process to make more people to fit in the chamber at the same time.
I don't know whether this still holds up but being in the Time Chamber can be tolling, especially when everything except the building is a white void Plus (This is the maybe part) the same person can only go into the Time Chamber twice in their lifetime but I think it got either retconned later in the series or someone forgot
I don't know if it was done on purpose, but it is a nice touch that Goku's armor is a lot more messed up than Gohan's armor. Maybe it's because Goku took it easy on Gohan or maybe it's perhaps Gohan is slightly stronger than Goku.
So in the manga, originally Goku was supposed to be 14 years old but toriyama retconned that and made him 12 by saying Goku doesn't know how to count beyond 10. So when Goku says that Gohan is now teen Gohan since he's one year older since being 10 years old, I think that's a subtle reference at that retcon. (Might have the numbers wrong, but apparently that is true.)
Yeah Gohan is indeed 10 years old well should of been i know they weren't in the room of spirit and time for the full year and came out a few hours early But people sent me interviews that Toriyama wanted to use Gohan's natural age so he stayed 9 And the dub and games made it worse Funimation made him 11 and the games made him a Teenager which are incorrect cause the buu saga Gohan is the Teenager he is 16 lol which minus 7 years and he was 9 And i know he was 9 at the start of the Android saga but stayed 9 after the room of spirit and time confused me for a long while there lol 😅

Edit: regarding the "two people rule" it is in reference to the fact that the fridge within can replenish itself to satisfy the appetites of two people over the course of their stay, and two saiyans as it is is stretching the limits due to how much they eat, and the instance in the buu arc worked is because Namekians do not eat solid food and rely on water and (occasionally) sunlight. Still doesn't make sense as to why he didn't join Goku and Gohan in the time chamber, could've helped them get stronger, could've gotten stronger himself, and could've convinced Goku and Gohan to stay for the entire 24 hrs/12 yrs instead of leaving a few hours early
Wouldn't have done anything if he had convinced them though since Goku deliberately left early because they had reached the limit of their power. They had completely mastered super saiyan, and Goku had a glimpse of SSJ2 Gohan. So that was why they left early because Gokus master plan all along was to get Gohan angry and make him turn SSJ2 to defeat Cell.
@@EskChan19 yea, but if they stayed, Piccolo could've helped point out that a) that is not the most reliable plan, b) he and goku could help make Gohan aware of the power of ssj2, and even if he doesn't master it or learn to access it, at least they are all in on the plan of Gohan's potential being made so they can have Goku and Piccolo fight Cell first to tire him out, allow Gohan to learn about his fighting style, as well as keep Goku from giving Cell a Senzu bean, and c) Piccolo could make sure Gohan learns some extra techniques for the sake of fanservice like the Special Beam Cannon or Instant Transmission
I think the rule is general, as in the base rules of the room were designed for 2 people under burdened exposure. This same rule could be why the original rule meant a person could only enter the room twice in their lifetime. In the later series Dende does change the rules of the room, likely removing some of the burden so that more people can enter for when they need to train and have only a limited amount of time as well as removing the "2 uses per lifetime" rule. The burden the room had on those within really wasn't much considering how strong the Z-Team had become, so were redundant anyway.
Something that was never done in the series but would have made sense is that the gravity chamber could have been put inside the room when in use for a greater burden that would otherwise not have had an impact on the chambers rules if I'm correct about the above information.

Oh, also, the reason you can't go in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber by yourself, is that the very reality of the inside will drive you insane. I mean, you saw how it was with Goku and Gohan. Gohan was writing on the walls, Shining style, and he and his "dad" (still think Piccolo's a better parent) were having the same nightmare for a week straight. Also, I'm pretty sure that's the same reason in the actual real DBZ show. Spending an entire year in nothing but a white void training would make you go insane.
There have been real world studies where people stay in a white room with nothing to occupy their time and bland, liquid 'food' and it really does not take long at all to start causing psychological harm.
There's a Vsauce Mind Field episode where the host attempts to live three days like that that and it was an immense struggle for him, he quickly lost all sense of time, by the last 24 hours he'd stopped trying to entertain himself with mental tasks or exercise and just pressed his head against the wall for hours at a time. Towards the very end, he was starting to have memory issues and having bouts of confusion, like believing he'd just been doing something when he hadn't.
While the time chamber isn't quite as bad as the room he was in, it's still hard to believe focused martial artists could remain in there for a full year without some harm done to their mental health.

I have watched reactions to DBZA multiple times per year to multiple channels since TFS ended the series and this is the first time anyone has ever brought up the bite mark to my knowledge. Hell as someone who started watching as they were still airing the android saga (Vegeta's first transformation was my first DBZA episode), I never even noticed it lol.

16:40 I think all the incremental improvements to Super Saiyan they gain in the Cell arc are called grades and the always on version of Super Saiyan is called Super Saiyan grade 4, but also I don't remember for certain
Grade 1 is Super sayian as we see it in the Namek
Grade 2 is what see when " Super vegeta" show up on semi perfect Cell, bit more power behind it
Grade 3 is what trunks does where he bulks up, but it kills your speed.
Grade 4 is the " perfected" super saiyan gohan refers too where they basically use no stamina ot hold it so they can exert more from that point more easily(ie: starting from 100 instead of starting from zero.)

I've been out of the loop on dragon ball series I can't answer much on the time chamber question.
If it's something you'd at all be interested, they've done directors commentary of DBZA (up to episode 59), the movies, Hellsing Abridged and FF7 Abridged; all were live streamed but the DBZA stream isn't on their channel, though you can find it if you look for it.

I don't know if it's ever actually touched upon in canon Z, but the Time Chamber doesn't actually have a hard limit on the number of people that can enter at a time, but the magic fridge is only capable of storing a years worth of food for 2 people. Every additional person above 2 shortens the time they can stay in the chamber because they would run out of food. 1 Person could last 2 years, 2 can last 1, 3 could last 8 months, and 4 could go 6 months. Incidentally, because Namekians survive on water alone, Piccolo's presence doesn't really count towards the food limit, meaning Gotenks couldn't have theoretically stayed inside for the whole year if Super Buu didn't get impatient.
In all honesty, there is a good chance that this was a classic Toriyama retcon. He needed a way for Gokū and Vegeta to not be able to train together, and saying the Chamber has a 2 person limit was probably just the first thing that came to mind. When the Buu saga came around, he needed Goten and Trunks to be able to practice in the Time Chamber, but obviously they couldn't be in there by themselves, so he had to retcon the max capacity to be based on the amount of food it can store, instead of ✨magic✨
Fun fact: the form Goku and Gohan use is call Full Power Super Saiyan. Basically after much training their body's as well their mind and emotions they are able to hold SSJ form like they would their normal forms and lose little to no power when holding it. But doing so make it harder doing normal things like drinking water from a glass....😆 no bull Goku and Gohan broke more dishes holding them carefully as possible instead of accidentally dropping them
So canonically the Time Chamber is limited to two people because it will only provide enough provisions for two people at a time, it is not a hard limit, Bulma could like provide a food store in capsules if more than 2 wanted to go in but they never do it.

Speaking on the point you made about more than 2 people being in the time chamber during the Buu arc. Mr Popo mentions that when more than 2 are inside of it, the time dilation is muted and the time in the chamber is the same time as outside.
So, Goku and Gohan's trip into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, they literally are just staying in Super Saiyan form as a permanent state. It's explained off in DBZ that they do it to increase their stamina, as the SSJ form takes a lot of stamina just to maintain it. Later, it's retconned as their bodies being able to regulate the power level. Either way, they come out of the chamber able to stay in SSJ form without any need to focus on it. Being Super Saiyan was as natural as breathing.
Of course, DBZA shortens it to them forgetting where the light switch is.
You gotta imagine that's _really_ weird for saiyans. Imagine being on planet Vegeta, and _not_ getting into a fistfight with every single person you know. Those idiots probably throw haymakers like we say 'hello'.
Also, that bit about the Chamber. Earthlings are generally notorious for their ingenious uses of ki. For such a weak race, they came up with a _surprising_ number of very effective techniques. Before Goku, they'd never seen anything like a Saiyan- and over time, the Chamber _and_ the lookout have been damaged. Like with Kami disappearing, that presents an opportunity for _change._ Specifically, within the _rules_ they go by.
Ever since meeting Goku & the rest, Kami's Lookout has practically become the respawn fountain from League of Legends.
ALSO- can we take a second to talk about the fact that chichi, up until the cell arc, _as annoying as she was, _*_didn't know literally all of her friends had been fighting people who could annihilate planets with a since VEGETA?_*

Not sure if anyone else commented on this but what Goku and Gohan accomplished here is commonly referred to as Mastered Super Saiyan. As far as we’re aware Vegeta accomplishes this form too, as it’s kind of a prerequisite for SSJ2. But it replaces regular SSJ as well as the buff versions that both Vegeta and Trunks use both in terms of power and speed. There isn’t an exact multiplier as far as I’m aware but at any point in the series after the Cell Arc this is the version of Super Saiyan being used. Like I said it’s both stronger and faster than the buff Super Saiyan forms. Which is another reason why it’s considered the Mastered Version

To explain the hyperbolic time chamber, at this point in the story the room may only be used for 2 years/2 days, after which the door disappears and you can never get out. The two person thing is a supply issue, not really a hard rule. You could have the whole gang in there but good luck feeding them. Except piccolo since he doesn't eat he just drinks water. Eventually little green will upgrade the room of spirit and time to get rid of the 2 use limit so you can stay in there as long as the food supplies last. Also with the original super saiyan transformation you have four levels. Stage 1 is just regular old super saiyan. Stage 2 is what trunks and vegeta used their first time out of the chamber, usually referred to as super vegeta or super trunks. Stage 3 is that real bulky one that trunks used against perfect cell. And Stage 4 is mastered super saiyan or perfected super saiyan and it is what goku and gohan stepped out of the chamber with. This is such a better way of doing things that the other stages were never touched again. Kinda weird they never tried to do this sort of training with super saiyan 2 or 3 but whatever. It's purpose is to make going super saiyan take nearly no energy at all and to have little to no stamina loss while you are super saiyan. Pretty much makes being super saiyan feel more comfortable and normal like you never transformed at all.
idk I guess maybe they did off screen. Goku and Vegeta seem pretty chill while Super Saiyan 2 in the Buu saga, its just 3 that is really difficult for Goku to maintain
Also, if I recall, that's the Daizenshuu explanation, while pretty official, it's still built up on quite a lot of head canon of Shueisha staff than straight from Toriyama. Given that bulking up was present in Dragon Ball, I would personally assume that 'Grade' system is from Shueisha forgetting the precedent from earlier in the series and treating them as their own unique forms, where as it would seem more reasonable, to me, to assume that Trunks and Vegeta tried to push to get stronger, taking the bulking up route, while Goku chose to simply master being a Super Saiyan.
As a notable point, the Daizenshuu got really caught up in coming up with power levels for characters through the story, even though Toriyama was done with them before the death of Frieza, and it was pretty evident that the point was to show that relying on a 'stat' to assume your victory or loss is flawed.
Of course, that's my head canon too, so if Toriyama has actually gone on record to say the Grades are a real thing, then never mind me! 😅
The time chamber was upgraded by Dende during the Buu arc so that more people can go in and more often. (I'm pretty sure there was a limit to how many years you can spend in the time chamber.) (not 100% on this part; but I think he upgraded it because it was broken in the first place.) also you CAN go in alone but for your mental health its highly suggested against.
And to this day, Piccolo and Vegeta have never fought

I like to think that what happens is that if more than 2 people enter the room, the time weirdness stops working and the same time passes inside and outside, considering the inconsistency of Buu leaving the Chamber and then Gotenks leaving shortly afterwards. If it were like the issual "1 day out 1 year in" Gotenks shouldve come right behind Buu, but they didnt.
And my headcanon its because, since there were Goten, Trunks and Piccolo inside the chamber, then the time dilation stopped working, unlike when its was just Trunks and Goten inside.
Of course, this was never acknowledged or adressed anywhere so, to me, its just a happy accident that it sort of makes sense.
I believe the way the hypertonic time chamber works, any number of people can enter, but the time dilation only takes effect if only 1 or 2 people enter. So once piccolo and buu enter with trunks and goten, time stops moving so quickly inside.
The reason Piccolo went in alone has a lot to do with the fact hes in such an odd position. Not strong enough to train with goku, Vegeta, and trunks but being far too strong to train with Tien and Krillen. That and he meditates which requires a reasonable amound of solidtary isolation
The reason why Mr. Popo suggests only two people go into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber is because of the fact that the food that’s in there is only enough for two people (presumably enough for two Saiyans).
Also, you mentioned that perhaps Vegeta could eventually become a Full-Power Super Saiyan like Goku and Gohan, but I’d debate that pretty much all of the Saiyans, including Goten and Trunks, had achieved this perfected form of Super Saiyan by the Buu Saga; in the anime at least, they are all animated with that brightly-colored yellow that Goku and Gohan have here, they lack the constant powerup aura around them, and they all retain their normal personalities within Super Saiyan as well. That’s my take on it at least.
So the next few episodes are basically filler before the cell games like you thought but they’re still good episodes so don’t worry about that. HOWEVER there is EVEN MORE decent filler you can react to after the Episode 56. It’s a small side series called “Cell Vs Everyone” with shorts of him fighting other characters like Saitama, Yami and Sonic. And of course the Broly movie is a long one but by far the best movie so get hyped for that one 🙌🏽

Was Popo always fast and strong enough to hold his own vs. 2 Super Saiyans? Well, to be fair, I guess during the Saiyan saga he was too busy to help ("butterin' toast")

The limit was based on food in the chamber, and the 2 day limit was defeated when buu screamed his way out, since that means the door vanishing wasn't a real problem since there is a way out now
I think the way they got around it in the buu arc was that they weren't in there for the entire year. Was just to give extra time. Also with 2 kids the amount of food would have lasted longer especially with piccolo only needing water

1) Unlikely. Chi-Chi is fully human and much older than Gohan, it's unlikely she'd naturally live longer than Gohan, she'd realistically die of old age way before that year would even matter. That said, it did practically take a year of Gohans life.

Interesting, I assumed Vegeta didn't achieve it until the Buu saga. I guess it's never officially confirmed or denied beyond speculation, but when Vegeta powers up/fights during the Cell Games he seems really buff with exaggerated muscles, similar to how he looked while he was fighting Cell earlier (the form he called "Super Vegeta"). Also in the scene where Trunks bites the dust, Vegeta isn't a Super Saiyan, suggesting he powered down to conserve his energy like Trunks. Compare that to Goku who maintains Super Saiyan long after Gohan took care of the Cell Jr.s even though he didn't have to.

I don't know if it was done on purpose, but it is a nice touch that Goku's armor is a lot more messed up than Gohan's armor. Maybe it's because Goku took it easy on Gohan or maybe it's perhaps Gohan is slightly stronger than Goku.

So in the manga, originally Goku was supposed to be 14 years old but toriyama retconned that and made him 12 by saying Goku doesn't know how to count beyond 10.
So when Goku says that Gohan is now teen Gohan since he's one year older since being 10 years old, I think that's a subtle reference at that retcon.

@@Black_ReaperKai Yes, the joke is about how in all the official Dragon Ball Z video games when you can select between different versions of Gohan, they usually have "Kid Gohan," "Teen Gohan," and "Adult Gohan" as the choices, even though "Teen Gohan" isn't a teenager lol they like poking fun at those things like how Trunks thought Freeza's name was spelt "Freiza" (because all the games spell it that way) or how Trunk calls 17 and 18 "the cyborgs," but Goku immediately changes it to "androids?"

I think the rule of 2 is general, as in the base rules of the room were designed for 2 people under burdened exposure. This same rule could be why the original rule meant a person could only enter the room twice in their lifetime. In the later series Dende does change the rules of the room, likely removing some of the burden so that more people can enter for when they need to train and only have a limited amount of time as well as removing the "2 uses per lifetime" rule. The burden the room had on those within really wasn't much considering how strong the Z-Team had become, so was a redundant feature anyway.
Something that was never done in the series but would have made sense is that the gravity chamber could have been put inside the room when in use for a greater burden that would otherwise not have had an impact on the chambers rules if I'm correct about the above information. Vegita and Trunks would have gained much more, but at the time the original burden of the room may have been too much for the external components to handle.
