Beijing says its Belt & Road Initiative is all about boosting global development, but critics call it a debt trap for the Global South. Outgoing European Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen has been rolling out the EU’s "Global Gateway" strategy, an apparent bid to step up to the China challenge.

Well, there's a war going on. A war started by Hamas and Hezbollah. And just to be clear, the Ukraine war was started by Russia. Nobody is criticizing Russia for 'not respecting human rights' in Ukraine, because that is not expected in war. People are accusing Russia of 'crimes against humanity', but that is different from 'respecting human rights'. These are legal terms.

Whether Israel uses a broomstick or a bomb to retaliate is irrelevant, they were attacked and they have the right to retaliate, using whatever means they have. If you don't like it, don't attack Israel.

Where is EU's infrastructure crumbling? We keep maintaining and improving on the infrastructure we have had for centuries, and we also build new infrastructure. You can actually measure that Europe's infrastructure is better than it has ever been in history.

China certainly has some of the newest infrastructure, but even Chinese infrastructure gets older with time. Some of Shanghai's early metro lines built in the mid-90s are really beginning to show their age. Many inter-city expressways built in the 90s are also getting quite worn. Many of these will be maintained and repaired, but it depends on the fiscal ability of the location they're in.
As time passes, China's 'new' infrastructure will get older and older, just like that in Europe. Then all the money will go toward repairs and maintenance.

The IMF is not an investor or loan giver to projects. The IMF has only ONE purpose: To assist countries with large debt to get their financial structure back on track by providing emergency funds. The IMF only provides funds to countries in order to alleviate crippling debt. No country has to accept funds from the IMF, and all countries that do accept IMF funds do so after accepting the terms. Countries that don't want IMF funds can try to go to China, and come away disappointed.

Find out who Sri Lanka owes the most debt to. Including Pakistan. Many developing countries are being fed and sucked by the International Monetary Organization.

- Chinese annual interest is at 3.3%, *5 times* higher than Japanese loans.
- Among all loans, Chinese loans must be *paid first.*
- Chinese loans are not money. They are *construction debt.*
- The loans must have *collateral, such as mines, seaports, etc.
- Most BRI projects China developed are useless but may be useful for *the Chinese military.*
- Chinese workers, mostly *men unable to marry* in China, are transported to Sri Lanka for BRI projects.
- China took the Hambantota seaport for *99 years* as Sri Lanka's unable to pay.
- unable to pay, Sri Lanka asked lenders for renegotiation. All responded, *except China.*
- When Sri Lanka tried to import necessities, China *blocked* it because of unpaid debts.

@JG-xi4tu Your "human rights for workers" are meaningless when their employers downsize, are bought out, or go bankrupt because of managerial incompetence, unwillingness to adapt, or even to adopt basic procedural changes. Within the past few decades, such formerly iconic EU member based companies such as BASF, Philips, Nokia, and now Volkswagen have laid off and/or are preparing to lay of thousands of their workers. With the decline of Philip to a shel of their former selves, the EU now does not have a single flourishing major electronics company.

Green and digital transitions globally 😅. SERIOUSLY. So you are going to compete in Africa against China on the two things they are strongest overall at and that most of the EU is far behind on. Yes if we look at Sweden or Netherlands maybe, but France and Germany are still using Paper work as in actual paper for most things, and landline. Both countries are protesting against 5G and digital security is some of the worst for developed countries in the largest eu member states. All eu countries are way behind on developing electrical vehicles and the entire digital mobile industry overall has crashed in Europe. Nigeria is cashless far ahead of most European countries. The problem with this policy is that it doesn’t recognize Africa as countries with various levels of development some that are skipping ahead of europe in certain areas like fintech. Many Europeans still think of Africa as these cute tribal people that sit around playing drums and having famine, and haven’t discovered the internet. Even the cute tribes they are imaging in their heads are scrolling TikTok even as you read comments. If the EU wants seriously, start with not preaching considering they started slave trade in Africa and begin with actually targeted investment to private entities, instead of helping African govts get to EU levels of inefficiency.
