I will never stop being bitter about the sound lost with Matt Pelissier leaving MCR.
The way he glides through the cymbals at 1:00 is oddly satisfying.
And it's not even solely his playing that I spill spaghetti over- something about the way every single piece of his kit(s) sounded always hit my ears just right. If you ever get to play/hear the floor tom of a seasoned jazz drummer, that's exactly what Pelissier's floor tom always sounded like. Picture a chipped ancient tom shell, the head streaked and riddled with little dents- but the sound it makes resonates in your bowels like a magnesium citrate milkshake.
That sound only produced by a worn, but stable tom is like a velvet q-tip. 😤👌

His cymbal choices were really unique. The crashes aren't anything special, just a pair of A Customs (17" and 18"), but everything else is so weird. The ride is a 20" Paiste Signature Dry Heavy Ride, which, despite the name, is not dry at all. It has a very noticeable ping, even more so when he played, since he used a pair of 5B nylon tip sticks. They were discontinued by Paiste in 2010. His splash is probably most interesting: a 7" Sabian Vault Max Splash, which is part of Mike Portnoy's signature series. It's a real washy sounding splash with a really high pitch, and is really noticeable on tracks like Vampires Will Never Hurt You. Also discontinued, it is extremely hard to find for sale online. His China is by far the most strange. During Bullets he used a Zildjian Oriental China Trash, nothing special, but by this point in late 2003 he had switched to an 18" Zildjian Oriental Classic China, which ironically sounds trashier than the China Trash. These are again very hard to come by. His second splash is a 12" Paiste 2000 splash, which is by far the most strange. I have not been able to find any for sale online, and I've looked for almost 2 years. He also stripped it away from the kit by the time Three Cheers had released. He chose quite unpopular and niche cymbals, which goes to show that he was most likely very particular about the sound he wanted to achieve.

His kit is also interesting. It's nothing special for the time, just a Pearl Session Custom SRX 925 (12x10, 13x11, 16x16, 22x16) in "Marine Blue Fade" finish, with stock hardware apart from the crash/tom stands. It's an intermediate level 6 ply maple kit with big and deep toms, which is part of the sound. The snare drum is probably the most interesting. It's a Premier Signia (14x5.5) from early '90s, in natural finish. It has an extremely unique die cast batter hoop which looks like a marching hoop. I have also not seen these snares for sale online, at least not in the finish he had, literally ever. In fact, there are barely any photos online of the natural finish. The other finishes that go for sale are usually ridiculously overpriced, and can be $800.

He was great for writing. But man he was booty live. Saw them before and after and there was a big difference. Though Gerard getting clean helped a lot with that too

@@jimmygee3219 yeah he had Lars Ulrich syndrome lol. Could’ve been alcohol usage affecting his timing. I’ve also heard recordings of early MCR shows where he’s on time but starts early, probably due to the monitors being too low or due to there not being any monitors present, which basically means you can’t hear anyone else’s playing very well and it sounds like loud mush at times (I’ve been in that sort of situation and you have to guess what your band mates are playing).

Matt was not a bad drummer I don't understand why he got kicked out, I mean maybe he wasn't perfect but none of them was Mikey barely knew how to play bass and he got the chance to practice and get better I don't know why they didn't gave Matt that chance too😕

Matt refused to drum to a click track on tour and therefore couldn't really keep a consistent beat when playing. Things reached a head in Japan; when the band returned, they got rid of him as a drummer and hired Bob Bryar (who also got fired just before Danger Days was recorded).
