It Was Worse Than I Thought! - Four Wheel Camper Rebuild - Part 1

- This is the first video in the series of rebuilding this Four Wheel Camper Eagle I picked up not too long ago. The interior needed a complete redo and gut job due to excess moisture exposure and poor craftsmanship. I found some damage that was a bit more than I was expecting!

Thanks man, me too! Haha
Wow, definitely a big project. Looks so spacious in there, especially gutted like that. Very interesting blank slate to work with for your own build and I'm eager to see what you do with it once you've completed the more fundamental repairs. The stuff you tore out, was that all DIY work from a previous owner, or some of the original camper interior also?
Yeah it’s a pretty big project! But I’m feeling good about it.
Yeah the previous owner DIYd the whole interior. This was a shell model so it came as a blank slate originally. Pretty cool as I’m only replacing lumber and can make it what I want inside. Hope you are liking your Topo Topper!
Looks like a fun project. I was wondering if you considered reaching out to four wheel camper. When we were having ours built, there were several older ones there getting fixed/retrofitted. They might be at least able to give you some suggestions on floor integrity based on what you are thinking of doing.
I haven’t reached out to them yet. Mostly been browsing the Wander The West forum and RUclips for ideas. I think I have my path forward for the floor. Just dotting my T’s and crossing my I’s before I dive in!
I'm thinking an aluminium boxed frame for the floor witch houses two full length extension drawer slides would be nice way to get a stonger floor, more storage and raise it a few inches. Miss that DIY wedge camper yet?
Yeah drawers was high on the list for the space under the camper. Not going to be aluminum though due to cost and not having a means to weld it. So steel or wood. I only miss having a complete and done setup, DIY camper was a great stepping stone, but needs have shifted.
Wish I could find a little pop up like that I settled for a half camper it had some wood rot to… seemed a little overwhelming at first but once I got to it, not so bad and I have very poor woodworking skills 😅
Yeah I think I’ll be able to sort this damage out relatively easy!
Finallllly someone is tearing out a FWC interior. This is EXACTLY the build and platform i am planning on doing.. very excited to follow along! Definitely taking notes for the Eagle!
Glad you are stoked to follow along! Thanks for tuning in!
Stoked to see you tackle the issues, I'm confident you'll have one hell of a camper by the end of it.
Thanks man! I’m looking forward to the finished product.
I love that camper, we've been discussing an option like that for our Tundra for a few months. Current setup is great, but having a place to stand would be even better. Judging from your previous builds, this thing is sure to be amazing! Can't wait to see the progress....
Standing room is a game changer! Thanks for the vote of confidence, looking forward to finishing the build so I can get out and use it.
Interesting clip I would be wearing a cartridge filter mask while doing that mold is no joke and it’s available I’d be running a propane heater in there to help dry things out while you’re working.
It wasn’t that bad, I wiped down most of the interior and vacuumed before this. Propane would not be a good heat to use for drying out as a byproduct of burning propane is water.
I always enjoy watching your projects and adventures!! Great video, excited to see how the camper turns out!!
Thanks for tuning in! I am excited as well😂
Does the top come off? Could you remove the top and brace the camper criscross like you would a car before you cut out the floor pans?
The guys on Reddit I see redoing these things always makes me wonder why they just don't start from scratch. Either way its great content and I'm excited to see where it goes
The top could come off but that’s pretty involved and I would only do that if I was replacing the canvas too (which could happen).
It’s nice that this is a shell model so starting from scratch is relatively simple! Thanks for tuning in!
Man, I can only imagine how awesome this thing is gonna be. Seriously a great opportunity starting with a blank slate inside!
Haha I hope it lives up to your expectations! I’m pretty excited to start getting it dialed
@@pnwxplore I think what I like most about your channel is it’s the style of editing & content I would prob put out if I had the time & energy to create a channel of my own. Anyway, thx for being motivated, keep it up!
Just for future reference and for those that are watching when removing tongue and groove or lap joint flooring it’s easiest to split the first piece and half slide and pull it out and try and pry against the lap or tongue joints
Good note!
Fun watching you tear that stuff out. Wasn't really sure what you've got. More info on the camper would be cool for those of us who don't have a great deal of camper knowledge.
I posted a video about what I got on my channel already if you haven’t checked it out! Thanks for watching!
Gut it out down to the frame to expose all the issues so you can get it dialed in and have no major problems down the road. Plywood is easy to work with and not too expensive. You could use a 1/2 inch gator board or some type of PVC board to help water proof it. Home Depot has some high R value foam panels you can use then slap some PVC or FRP sheets on it and make your own sandwhich panels for the floor. ruclips.net/video/FhsTJpMADJE/видео.html&feature=shares for REF on a DIY sandwhich panel.
Definitely taking it down to the frame and starting fresh. The PVC board is an interesting idea, thanks dude!
Why didn’t you just buy the M project?
I wanted something with a floor so it could all be removed easily and I can use my truck as a truck when I’m not camping. So being sell contained was important. Plus this will be cheaper even with redoing it.
